Reviews of nakey
felt like the food was honestly pretty mid for what i was paying for, the bagel was way too crispy for me personally though the fillings were generous and tasty. the coffee was still considerably sweet even after the less sweet option! twister fries were surprisingly our favourite and you couldn’t go wrong with the mentaiko salmon grain bowl. may return to try something else again in the future if there’s no queue, maybe their pastas or the nakey brekkie which has the ✨ recommended sign instead!
did a walk in as i was killing time in the area
pistachio matcha latte ($8) - not as bad as some reviews say... don't expect strong pistachio or matcha flavour but i liked that i could still taste the coffee and it was not too sweet. there's some layering in the drink so the bottom has more pistachio/matcha... not sure if u r meant to stir it. some parts were a little gritty
smoked salmon bagel ($17) - matcha bagel didnt rly have a matcha taste but that's fine w me (not even a matcha fan so idk how i ended up with 2 matcha flavoured orders). bagel was toasted i loved that the "crust" was crispy and the inside fluffy. not rly the typical chewy texture but still delicious. generous helping of smoked salmon. cream cheese was just a thin schmear i think slightly more would be good. liked the ingenious addition of pickled cucumber and guac tho!!!
no gst and service charge which is fantastic
We visited during lunch hour on a Tuesday and the indoor seats were all occupied, hence we seated ourselves at the outdoor table nearest to the indoor seats. Contrary to some of the reviews I came across before visiting Nakey (good service, average food), we thought that the spicy chicken pasta / smoked salmon bagel / truffle twister fries tasted above average for cafe standards. However, we did not have a pleasant experience with the male service staff who attended to us. Service was cold, although we believe he had good intentions. As we were looking through the menu, the service staff approached us and asked “do you mind sitting there instead” while gesturing towards the Thai restaurant next door. After noticing our visibly confused faces, he then added “oh, same owner”. We could only assume he was suggesting for us to move next door so that we could be seated in the air conditioned space, so we agreed. Although the food tasted above average, we are unlikely to return again due to the subpar experience with the service staff and dining atmosphere - which is a large part of the cafe dining experience anyway. We hope that the frontline staff can be better trained to effectively communicate with patrons in the future.
We ordered charcoal bagel sando, seafood kombu capellini, fried cauliflower, nakey iced tea and honey lemon mint iced tea - they were all so amazing! Generous portion, cozy ambience and warm hospitality - amazing!
Food and drinks were underwhelming, especially the pistachio matcha latte I was really excited to try it (I got a diluted drink instead!!) :-( but I guess the place itself makes up for me. A really cute cafe at the heart of Chinatown.
The foods are average overall. The iced latte doesn’t have much of coffee taste, could be too much ice. The signature big breakfast is normal imo
as others have noted, the vibes of nakey are pretty good.
casual but friendly service. nevertheless, a bit disheartened when i tasted their nakey iced tea, which was just thai tea with a dehydrated slice of lemon, for six buckaroos (???)
the breakfast platter was fine - the toast was generously buttered, which was pleasant, but as the photo shows, it's stereotypical cafe food, with exactly ten tater tots and a lil slop of guacamole.
tldr - lots of different cafe options abound, let's leave this one for the tourists!
Ordered the truffle chicken bagel and eggs benefit with smoked salmon. Presentation was nice and ambience was chill. Would recommend if you are at Chinatown.
decent food, service was q fast! ordered the truffle twister fries which was a decent portion, smoked salmon bagel, was alright! and kombu egg benedict— I expected more hollandaise sauce & also i thought it was gonna be a poached egg but i think what came was a soft boiled egg though, anyway decent amt of smoked salmon was given😀
extra slay for no service charge & gst!! and also it’s q funny we were guided to the nxt door thai restaurant to eat😅 but all’s good though HAHAH will come back for the other dishes nxt time!
Nakey, nestled in the heart of Chinatown near the MRT station, offers a minimalist yet cozy space that's perfect for aesthetic photos and videos. But the true stars of the show are its innovative menu items, particularly their Kombu Egg Benedict.
Kombu Egg Benedict
This was an umami bomb! A delightful twist on the classic brunch favourite. Served on a warm, crispy and buttery croissant, the croissant provides the perfect foundation, its flaky layers offering a satisfying crunch with each bite.
Topped with a generous portion of smoked salmon, the dish strikes a perfect balance. The salmon is tender, flavourful and not overly salty, pairing beautifully with the kombu-infused hollandaise sauce. This kombu hollandaise is a game-changer, adding an umami depth that elevates the entire dish.
The crowning glory of the Kombu Egg Benedict is the poached egg. Perfectly cooked with a runny yolk that cascade over the salmon and croissant, creating a rich, creamy layer that ties all the elements together. This combination of textures and flavors creates an umami bomb that truly satisfies any savoury craving.
While the Kombu Egg Benedict is a standout, Nakey offers a variety of other delectable options. From their Bombolone-style donuts to their specialty drinks like the Matcha Pistachio Latte and Butterfly Pea Soda, there's something for everyone. Whether you're in the mood for a sweet treat or a refreshing beverage, Nakey has you covered.
I had breakfast here, and it was absolutely incredible! Everything from the food to the ambiance and service was outstanding. A perfect 10/10 experience with nothing to complain about. I highly recommend this place!
Tried the banana bread and an orange Americano both were decent. The place has a nice vibe and is fun for a one-time visit, but not something I’d go out of my way to return to.
Caramel Biscoff Latte was so good, will come back for it! When ordering, I saw the waiter bringing out 2 for other customers and knew it was popular. Also the Bomboloni Donut was great and generous with the filling.
Beautiful interior and chill ambience, stayed for a while to do some work on my laptop once the cafe was emptier and it was perfect.
Nakey, Chinatown, Singapore - a tad difficult to find as it’s between all the souvenir shops. A industrial casual cafe concept with a couple of great hits! I like the Avo Kale Toast which had avocado, egg, and fried kale on toast. The donut with custard was also exceptional. The coffee was a little diluted but I must say the Bundung Rose Latte which a friend had was just too pretty. I also had the Seafood Capellini though tasty felt a little watery. Food is served on cute plates which made the cafe a little more unique.
I think this is a lovely spot drop by during the week as it’s an oasis of calm in the bustle.
Visited this gem yesterday and their waffle with chicken was SUPER YUMS I just had to come back today and try their bagels which filled me with even more delight!!
The waffle with chicken ($21) was just perfect with the sweetness of the syrup paired with the savoury ranch sauce. And WOW the breakfast bagel (ONLY $13!!!), it was so soft to bite into the bagel and the green sauce was so flavoursome, I've never gobbled down a bagel this fast before: it was SO GOOD. I hope this cafe never stops serving and slaying plus the staff are so lovely too! I can't wait to go back and try their bombolones next:>
Had ample options for vegetarian!
The tatter tots were really good. However the salads could use more dressing.
Visited on a Sunday before noon. Walked past first and saw a queue. There is this board for you to leave your contacts if you would like to sit indoors. Sitting outdoors is fine quite a number of tables available.
I wrote my contacts but no one called me. Returned back an hour later and they gave me a bar counter sit which was indoors. I thought I could get a proper table I could do some work.
Since I already had lunch, I decided just to get a donut and a drink. There wasn't many flavours left for the donuts, only 2. The one I was thinking of was actually unavailable so I picked the lemon meringue. I also ordered the matcha pistachio latte I thought it was interesting to have pistachio in it.
I took the 1st bite of the donut from the top and I was disappointed as I wondered how come there was so little filling. Then I was wrong when I took the 2nd bite the filling burst and was overflowing! Been a while since I had a donut with rich filling.
I had a look at the drink and felt weird. I wondered why the drink looked brown and wondered if it was the colour from the pistachio. I took a whiff and smelled coffee. I was wondering if the menu was misleading as it just said specialty drinks and didn't say it was coffee. I asked the staff and he said all the specialty drinks are coffee drinks and I wasn't interpreting it like that. I asked if I could switch to something as I don't drink coffee, he didn't say a word and just changed the drink immediately. I'm thankful to him and must say the service was very good.
I guess probably they should specify on the menu as well as on my side I should not assume it does not have coffee.
A nice place to chill, but probably a long wait if you want to sit indoors. Will probably drop by again to try the mains as they look pretty good.
caramel biscott latte was out of this world, pistachio matcha latte was good. The food was good and the fries portion is really worth the price. The atmosphere is really nice and vibey. I really like the fact that the chairs are not too close together so u can have some privacy 👍👍👍👍
RECOMMEND
Such a hidden gem in Chinatown! The Nanban Don was delicious and the yellow pickled radish surprisingly balanced the mayo taste very well. Would definitely come back here again to try their other menu
Had the best breakfast at Nakey! We had the avocado kale toast and the big breakfast and it was amazing. The sausage was top notch, the eggs were nice and moist, and the tater tots were crispy and yummy. Didn’t realize I was craving it! The coffee also hit the spot. The staff, especially the owner was the sweetest. She really looked after us, got us a table amidst the business of the cafe, and made sure we were comfortable. We had some rosé to complete our brunch and it was a 10/10 time. Her name is Dewi, please look for her when you drop by. Sweetest girl ever!!
Seafood kombu capellini was served at room temperature, pasta was too soft and tasted like beehoon, rather plain as well. The truffle rigatoni dish was better! Biscoff latte was good, and you can’t go wrong with tater tots.
Of the three drinks, get the matcha pistachio latte.
Ordered burrata salad but they don’t give the full Burrata :( but this is still nice
Breakfast bagel is good
THEIR PLAYLIST IS 100/100 🔥
Ordered an iced white and the matcha pistachio latte to go - both were good! Vibes of the place were also great, with both indoor and outdoor seatings available. Would love to be back to dine in
The food and ambience was good (especially the truffle twister fries)!
Loved the interior and service was good. Food was good too, matched perfectly to pictures on the menu.
We ordered a salmon bagel, a rice bowl with salmon, and two coffees, and everything was amazing! The portions were generous, and the flavors were perfect. Highly recommend!
really cute and cozy café in the middle of chinatown! i really liked the avo toast, the textures and flavours were really good and up my alley. Portion is extremely good for sharing. I just wished the sourdough did not get soggy after awhile! The pistachio matcha latte did not turn out quite like what was expected as it had coffee in it too, so it was a tad bit confusing although I really enjoyed the nuttiness from the pistachio! I would come back again for the toast, and try out their famed donuts next time!
Love the vibes of this place! The food I think was pretty mid.. won’t say it blew my mind away. Would recommend the truffle twister fries and the Kombu Eggs Benedict :-)
Small and cozy cafe in Chinatown, with indoor and outdoor seating.
Portion size was quite filling!
We tried the Seafood Kombu Capellini $19- Slightly bland and nothing special about the taste... Noodles were thin and slightly mushy. Prawn was quite plump and scallops were fresh.
Spicy Chicken Rigatoni $18- Sauce was yummy and spicy, pasta was well cooked.
Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Sandwich $13- Bagel was quite dry and slightly hard… Salad on the side was soooo little :( Smoked salmon was flavourful and fresh though.
Twister Truffle Fries $13- Yummy, hot crispy twister fries, very fragrant truffle sauce. 10/10 great for sharing!
Staff was not very friendly or hospitable. Self-order at the counter, and if there’s no space, you have to put your name and number down on a list and wait for them to call you. Went on a Monday afternoon, had to wait for about 30 minutes so we walked around Chinatown.
Food portions are big! Food was really good, ordered the nakey brekkie and the eggs benedict, both were really tasty. The truffle twister fries were a hit too!
Small cozy new cafe in Chinatown, love the interior. Food and coffee are decent avo kale toast is a must get, would love to try pistachio latte next time
The place is a 5-min walk from Chinatown MRT Exit A. It's quite crowded on a normal day when I went with my friends. The place is very vibey and has very friendly staff who were very attentive & have a great attitude. The cafe is pricey for students as 1 pasta is minimally $19 . I shared a big brunch plate with a friend and had the pistachio matcha latte. The latte has a good smoky pistachio taste with the slight bitterness of the coffee & matcha. Overall, a great cafe for brunch and chit chat with friends.
The Nakey Brekkie is a good option to go for, there's a variety of food within this dish.
Great food at a relatively affordable price! Would definitely come back here again :)
Food was enjoyable, although I personally found them to be on the oilier side. Service was lovely and bonus points for nakey’s resident waiter!
Popped in for a quick bite and had the pistachio latte, salmon rice bowl and brought a box of the donuts (aka bomboloni) back to my office. They were a huge hit! Check out this new spot on Trengganu!
Very friendly staff with good food options and nice atmosphere. Also it’s very convenient as it’s close to Chinatown mrt! Will definitely go back again!
NUTTY Praline, just trust me on this. I went during the soft opening, so I’ll be back to try their bagel and sourdough.
Pair it with coffee. Perfect. Great stop over to people watch and have a cuppa.
I love the food that called avo kale toast. Obviously, the taste is butter than I had before. Besides, all of the staffs are welcoming and nice service.🫶🫶🫶
Enjoyed my brunch some much at Nakey! Must come and visit! Get their fried chicken & waffles!
Great for brunch before walking to the busy streets of Chinatown. I’m looking forward to try their donuts.
My wife and I stopped for lunch on a busy day touristing the area. Highly recommend. Great food. Reasonable price. Clean and tidy. And right in the heart of busy Chinatown.
Delicious food and especially loved the bombins!
Also appreciate the attentive service !
The sourdough bread they have is 👌🏼👌🏼
Pasta was also very solid and the doughnuts make me wish I wasn’t lactose intolerant. So good.
Overall, great place for a date or a catch up with friend!
I love love love the bakes.
Everything was so good but the banana bread gosh. To die for. Just the perfect sweetness. Not too sweet.
Great food and service!
Staff is very friendly, especially the owner. Coffee is great! Highly recommend their Caramel biscoff latte 👍🏼
Enjoyed my brunch there! They provide a wide range of food choices! RLLY APPROPRIATE THE WARM SERVICE THAT THEY PROVIDED!
Super cute place with great vibes!! The praline and custard donuts were 10/10 :)
the barista guy so handsome, and the coffee very good
The location is really good, just off the main Chinatown lane. We enjoyed the food (rec: green curry cauliflower, nakey brekkie). My mint tea was not the greatest (it's iced sweet? tea? with mint syrup. Would have preferred it unsweetened.) Donuts are average, but if you have to choose go for the lemon meringue ones!
We sat outside cos it was a relatively cool day but holy batman the ANTS. Recommend everyone to sit away from the walls... there's some kinda infestation going on cos I removed around 20 ants or more from my friend's long hair, and after we left she found more inside her bag (???) This was after I initially saw a couple of ants on the table when I came in. (A few ants are fine la. Finding that many ants in your hair, is not.) Anyway idk I mentioned it to one of the staff but she didn't seem to understand? Didn't take evidence of the ants cos I was busy with actually trying to remove them!!
New Cafe at Chinatown that you can stop by for a Cup of Coffee, Donuts, and Bagels 🥯
Location: Nakey, 10 Trengganu St, Singapore 058464
Just a little humid but great food and service!
Limited food options but no regrets bursting the blood sugar levels for this nutty praline bomboloni. Like it better than s.bombe
Kombu egg benedict was nice and the atmosphere was great.
Got the salmon bagel and matcha pistachio and was very happy with it!! Waitress was a bit blur but we are all human and make mistakes so it's ok!
Great atmosphere and dining experience. Nice food and ambience.
Interesting atmosphere and nice food!
Best salt bun
Nice and comfortable environment. Very good coffee and bread served. Highly recommended!
Nice place for a coffee! The bread is amazing and service is very good!
good
very nice drinks
Greatly recommend this brunch place !
Great pastries and service!
Nice service and drink
I ordered donuts and two pieces of pasta. The service staff was very nice.
The seafood spaghetti tastes less like orthodox Italian spaghetti. The pasta is too soft and the shrimp has no shrimp flavor. The overall seasoning is tasty, but the softness and hardness of the seafood and pasta need to be strengthened.
The spaghetti with chicken legs in meat sauce is quite average. It is good to add sliced almonds to enhance the taste. It is a bit spicy, so those who don’t like spicy food should choose with caution.
The donuts are a little too oily and the custard sauce is not creamy enough.
For the whole day, it’s a store where the decoration is more important than the food.
Very delicious aromatic bread, fragrant coffee, good taste. Recommended. Must come.
The best avocado kale toast I've ever had. We recommend! Friendly staff. The only disadvantage is that there is no WiFi in the cafe.
A refreshing break in the Chinatown district, homemade banana bread and excellent, I recommend
Delicious 😋
