Reviews of Prawnography Novena Gardens
If you want wok hey, this is the place to go!
Consistent wok hey across all the dishes 🤣
Another plus, they are very generous with the ingredients (especially seafood) and portion size.
I can’t really rate service because the set up in this restaurant is pretty self serve.
The only grouch to the Hokkien mee is that the wok hey overpowers the seafood/pork broth that is the essence of every plate of Hokkien mee.
We really loved the Prawn Noodle Soup - the soup was so flavourful and delicious. Only downside is that the portion size is quite small, could have done better with a little bit more noodles.
We also ordered the Signature Deluxe Fried Hokkien Mee. The wok hey flavour was a little too strong for our liking as the charred taste came out very strong.
The chilli is really amazing, and one must definitely add them to the dishes. It brings the food up to another level!
We were nearby having family dinner and remembered this restaurant is nearby, so decided to add this fried hokkien mee to our supper list. Googled for them and was quickly connected via WhatsApp in their FB page. Didn't know it's the boss Jeremy who was responding promptly to my messages. He was patient and polite as he took down my order, and even offer to cook only after I informed him I am going over. This is a small gesture but he already win my vote for his responsiveness and being so customer-centric.
In addition, he also gave very clear direction to his restaurant as the roads around Novena is quite confusing now due to road works. He also informed me that there is a 10min grace period if I am driving. Another bonus point to Jeremy.
When we arrived, everything was a breeze. He has already instructed his team to put extra pork lard, provide extra chilli and also the cutleries (the boys almost wanted to eat in the car after collection!) as promised. I have always learn that we should never take this for granted and am grateful for these deliverables.
The place is clean, bright and spacious and not too crowded at around 7.20pm.
We tried the fried hokkien mee after shower. I am pleasantly surprised that the boys like it and ate quite a fair bit too. We especially like the wok hei together with the well-balanced mix of seafood that is hard to find in most other hokkien mee stalls. Their chilli is nice too and elevate the taste to another level if you start eating without.
Will be back again to try other dishes next time! See you again, Jeremy!
Broth for the Hokkien Prawn Mee is flavourful and the noodle absorb the broth well. It also come with a good amount of ingredients like pork belly, pork lard, squid and 3 good size prawns. Prawn noodle soup also take alright. Price is slightly steeper than hawker center and coffee shop but I feel is worth it as you may enjoy the food under aircon setting and a cleaner dining area. Will visit again when around the area.
Frankly one of the best Hokkien prawn noodles we have tasted! The wok hei was so so good and the broth was nice and rich! Lotsa of pork belly, larf and also sotong!! At $8 a portion it is really quite a lot for one pax! Accidental discovery when we try to walk to bus stop oppositve novena church. As there r currently lotsa road works around that area, it is not easily seen from the road!! Go try it!!
Just a few shops down from Hong Kong Street Restaurant in Novena, was where Whitley Prawn Noodles used to be. It was one of the places where we used to go to. Recently, the shop was taken over by another prawn noodles shop, called Prawnography.
With a name like that, we had to check it out, lol. And boy, are we glad we did.
This particular cafe sells both the soup/dry as well as the fried versions. We opted for one soup and one fried Hokkien Mee. The soup/dry noodles start at $6 which was what we ordered. The broth was excellent; rich, robust and full of umami. There could be a little more ingredients, but at least the prawns were large and fresh.
The fried noodles start at $8, and we opted for the deluxe $10 version. It's got lots of ingredients, and the noodles is packed with umami and is obvious that the noodles were fried with prawn broth. It's also a large serving.
It's definitely worth a trip to check them out. I recommend it.
Ordered the Hokkien fried noodles , taste Wise the noodles was packed with flavours of pork and prawn broth. There is alot of fried lard, would suggest to separate it for takeaway separately else it becomes soggy .
Note the belachan provides additional layer of flavour but it’s not spicy .
I had the prawn noodle soups , kway teow and mee , soup was flavourful but too much sugar in my opinion.
You can’t go wrong with Prawn paste fried chicken, nice when consumed hot .
their Signature Hokkien Mee was definitely above average, but not worth travelling out of the way for it. there are other hokkien mee in town that are better and worth travelling out of the way for.
restaurant is self service, and it was empty at 2PM on a Friday.
price is reasonable
A rather pricey hokkien mee so I did expect more.
Chilli was nice. Pork slices were generous and quite tasty. Lard was decent too.
Prawns were a let down not fresh and over cooked.
Overall decent but I may not go back in a hurry.
Have to admit, cooking broth for their hokkien mee is damn powerful! They've got the basis spot on for a potentially good hokkien mee. Makes me want to come back to try their prawn noodle soup the next time.
It definitely looks the business, enjoyable but I would rate it just above average. Mee was mee. Bee hoon was bee hoon. Soup was soup. Noodle have yet to soaked up that beautiful prawn broth, thus the dish hasn't all come together. Not to mention the lack of wok hei. Shallow plate gave an illusion of a larger than actual serve. Downtown city price of $8 for this is a little steep.
The sambal belacan is good. Together with a squeeze of calamansi, lifts and brightens up the dish.
Room for improvement.
This place specialises in fried rice and hokkien mee (prawn noodles). Both of which are delicious (got wok hei) and great value for money (large portions). The sambal chilli is also really good. Would recommend!
At $8 per plate of Hokkien mee, it is chokefull of ingredients. It is appreciated that the chef was not stingy on the ingredients at all. The noodles were also full of wok hey, and the chilli is really da bomb.
Service wise, you’ll collect the Hokkien mee on own and sometimes have to chase / remind the staff about your order. If you’re in a rush for lunch, then this may not be the place for you as you may need to wait for the food. The solace is the eatery is air conditioned and is comfortable. Can be quite cramped for sitting arrangements
The Hokkien Mee they serve here is the wet-type! The stock is thick, gooey and prawny/porky. Really Umami. Same goes for the Prawn Noodles (Soup). The rich soup base was thicker than the usual hawker fare. Around $10/pax with beverages. Cosy and uncrowded. Great place for a weekday dinner!
Reach prawnography at 9pm and ordered their only humongous portion of hkm which is $8. I believe it is operated by a Vietnam boss as I heard them conversing in Vietnamese.
This dish itself is a flavor and wok hei bomb. Everytime I ate a spoonful, my mouth literally exploded and my taste buds are screaming with joy. At prawnography, you will not have to fear eating a bland hkm as it is literally made for 重口味 eaters like me. For $8, they really gave out a generous amount of ingredients. All their ingredients are fresh and you can taste the sweetness of the 3 large prawns with every bite. They provide freshly fried pork lard at the side as well so that pork lard lovers like me can enjoy. Their spicy and zesty chilli goes really well with the hkm and you can take as much as you want. The chilli reminds me of Yi Ji hkm chilli but less spicy. I will say the closest comparison of their hkm is xiao di hkm at serangoon north.
Overall, the rich gravy and the wok hei taste is a heavenly match and this definitely is my top 5 hkm in SG.
It’s a pretty decent plate of HKM but I think the flavour can be a bit more flavourful. When it first came to the table, it smelt pretty fragrant so I was expecting quite a flavourful one. The chilli 🌶️ however is not your typical HKM chilli, it’s less of an orange and more of a red 😅, also spicier than usual. We got the one for 2 pax. If you’re a group of 3 small eaters, it’s possible to share this one too. It’s $18 I believe.
Read good things about the hokkien mee despite the rating for Prawnography being a bit lower than the usual places I try.
Got the $10 premium version with additional fish cake and scallops (yum!)
It’s really good! U can taste the flavorful broth in the noodles, the ingredients were plentiful and overall just a really good eat. There’s good wok hey in it as well.
Check it out.
Go and try this store as friends recommendation, i will says good for the food.
Quiet place, usually easy to get seats. Fried hokkien has a good amount of sauce. Used to have more wok hei. Ran out of soup stock when I last went there for dinner. Portion is good sized. Used to be able to feed 2 persons but now just nice for 1 person. The sambal is spicy and lovely with fried hokkien mee.
Very good hokkien mee with strong wok hey. Chilli was spicy enough too. Not many prawns but the prawns are sweet. If their pork lard is crispy then it would have been even better.
Very flavourful fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles. Super large portion, enough for two.
Deluxe versoon comes with a few pieces of fish cake and three scallops. Stick to their prawn noodles.
Specially came to try out the Hokkien mee and wasn’t disappointed. Would be great if there was more lingering taste & punch to it, maybe a stronger flavoured stock to fry with the mee? 😄
Had a prawn mee too which was alright.
So much easier to eat here than Bao Er at Balestier. Same wok hei noodles, fried rice & XO fish soup. And the superb sambal belacan. No crowd on a Saturday evening.
Fried prawn noodle is one of the best I had and I tried many. The flavor and wok hei is just delicious. Portion is generous, chili is power. I will return to again, must try!
A bit too salty for me but the ingredients are fresh and there is a wok hey taste for those who like it. Chilli is not bad. Not expensive at $8 for a rather big plate.
Was recommended by my friend.
Went there before office hours to try their signature Hokkien Mee. No doubt this is one of the most shiok Hokkien Mee. $8 is a huge portion to fill yr belly n more importantly the Wok Hei taste!
One of the nicer fried hokkien mee I had at $8 with quite a substantial amount of ingredients. The key to tasty is the gravy which is thick and tasty. They also sell fried rice in cade fried rice lovers tagged along a Prawn noodles lover.
Quite delicious wet style fried hkm. Good amt of lard bits. Sambal is punchy.
Nice Hokkien Mee. Fried rice with wok hei. I ordered take away but the new counter girl make mistake in my order and other orders. A bit messy in the ordering process.
Best Hokkien mee in singapore
while the food itself is good, the service is quite bad. the foreign staff who took the order took so long to understand what we were trying to say when placing the order, even though we asked for basic requests such as the type of noodles and no bean sprouts etc. she was also so confused when we were placing our different orders, and in the end messed up because she ended up keying in 2 portions when we only ordered 1.
cooking times is also quite inconsistent, for my table and some others, saw that some dishes were served first and people were almost done eating the first dish before the other diners dishes arrived
Hokkien Mee had a nice smokey flavour and was a sizeable portion. However, fried lard wasn't very crispy, and the ingredients were slightly underwhelming but plentiful. Do not recommend ordering the drinks as they are heavily diluted and they don't customize it correctly like less sweet or condensed milk preferred
Delicious prawn mee and with nicely cooked prawns. Chili is excellent and best was that fried pork lard was included. Portions are small but tasty.
This place is a hidden gem. They service very good quality plate of Hokkien Mee. Would recommend anyone that like Hokkien Mee!
Surprisingly good plate of hkm.. if ur very hungry, u might need to order a bigger plate.
Unlike many other reviewers, I believe the 8 dollars pricing is great value given the amount of ingredients- had 3 prawns, full of pork belly and good enough to feed one and a half persons. Won’t be surprised if they start to scale back portions in order to cut costs…
In the meanwhile, just pop over to the malls opposite and you will see what 8 dollars can get you there.
Excellent tasting wet-style Hokkien mee, will certainly come back!
All in all, we were not impressed by the hokkien mee. It was not worth the long wait (40+ minutes) and the price point. On the other hand, the fried rice was quite tasty. The staff handling orders also input the wrong items after us repeating our order six times, leading to wrong items showing up at our table and having to top up for the right items to be on our table. Would recommend giving customers receipts/showing them their orders before charging them. Other tables also received the wrong food.
I hope that the management will consider operational improvements to speed up and match the demand of customers.
Herbal fish soup was a bit odd. Fried hokkien mee was delicious
Excellent hokkien mee and prawn noodles. One of the best I've tried anywhere. Fried rice was good too (albeit the star was the fried fish/chicken that came with it).
Service is a tad slow, so I would avoid weekday lunches, but definitely worth going back again.
Their prawn noodles and hokkien mee are outstanding. Pricier than your standard hawker fair, but worth the indulgence. I like their fried chicken/fish paired with their fried rice as well. Only issue is the wait can be a bit long for the food, and when crowded they can be a bit disorganized, but good things come to those who have patience.
Ordered thru Deliveroo.
Hokkien mee arrived piping hot.
Rich wok hei flavour, fresh large prawns, squid, pork belly. Huge generous serving. So delicious I finished it all. Excellent taste. Loved it!!!
This plate of fried hokkien prawn mee was just loaded with ingredients and simmered in a really flavourful prawn stock. Very tasty and satisfying plate. Certainly one of the better versions of fried hokkien prawn mee around.
Above average. Comfy air conditioned restaurant.
Surprisingly good. Amazing service which really makes you feel welcomed and more than just another customer. Food portion was also unbelievably large and tasted amazing.
Good flavours and good portion sizes, must try
Hokkien mee was very good but the Prawn Mee dry was too sweet
Delicious prawn noodles. Must try!!!
the fried prawn paste chicken could do with little less salt
Excellent hkm. Full of wok hey and the portion is enormous.
Good but not fantastic
Pretty good hokkien mee. Can be quite crowded during lunch time.
OK but pricy I feel
One of the best Hokkien mee!
The umami is da bomb!
Very strong Wok Hei Hokkien Fried Prawn..
