Reviews of Restoran New World
Honestly, the broth for the lala claypot slapped damn hard… was soooo tasty and umami… and the amount of Chinese cooking wine was great (plus they have bottles on standby should you desire more).
BUT THE LALA WAS SO SANDY. Pretty much every mouth was sand-filled. I would give this a 5 stars for broth alone but the sandiness really cannot be overlooked.
The shop also sells dimsum and chicken pig stomach soup which I haven’t tried but wouldn’t be opposed to tasting.
I just really wished they’d wash their lalas better…
Also the milk tea is incredibly sweet. I know HK milk teas are meant to be rather sweet but this one was on another level :X
Ordered century egg porridge, original Chee Cheong fun, Siew mai and lo mai gai.
Century egg porridge is good, it’s my first time eating one that is topped with fried chopped garlic which I like as I love garlic. But the portion size is really small for 4.8$. Its bowl is even smaller than the sharing bowl and my 3$ ice lemon tea.
Siew mai is supposedly their recommended dish in the menu. It is juicy but the skin has this alkaline taste to it, like the yellow noodles.
Original Chee Cheong fun is decent, portion size is big with good amount of fried shallots.
Lo mai gai is a little disappointing.. the meat is quite tough..
Overall, i think the price can be a little more ex than other places for the portion size which I can find better and bigger portion elsewhere.
Ambience is not too bad tho.
Another eatery in the kovan neighbourhood. This one serves dim sum and hot pot dishes. We tried out their dim sum for lunch today as we are not too hungry. Food tastes okay, staffs are attentive and friendly. The eatery is the open door type but still air conditioned and protected from the hot air outside by an air curtain. It is quite noisy though from the traffic and the loud music playing. Not condusive for chatting.
Had one of the best Lala hotpot experience here! Generous amount of Lala given and they were really fresh. Soup was really savoury and rich in flavours! 😋 Prices were reasonable and the place feels like HK style cafe! Highly recommended 👍👍
Just dine in today at around 10-11pm. Chicken & pig intestine charcoal hotpot was delicious as we’re able to add additional ingredients + free flow of soup base.
Service was great too! Deeply appreciate to the Staff (a lady) who managed to return my thermal cup which I had left behind the shop approximately 5-10mins after leaving their shop.
Venue is clean and service was great! However the Lala was quite disappointingly tiny and soup was more inclined towards the MSG side.
Tasty Lala hotpot. Loved the broth and selection of meat. Service is excellent, too!
Loving the soup and atmosphere, lala hotpot soup was much better than those I had in Malaysia, in my opinion. They have dim sum too! Will visit again for this and their pig stomach + chicken soup
Not bad for food. A little expensive to be honest. Won’t intentional head over to try. But if nearby, why not. Overall all ok, just for the price tag, bit on high side.
The Har Gao and Siew Mai are good.
