Reviews of San Shu Gong Private Dining 三叔公私房菜
Took our overseas guests here for dinner and as always, dining in San Shu Gong never fail our tummies! We pre-orderd their 'Whole Chicken stuffed Pig's Stomach Soup' and 'Emperor Chicken', both umami-licious. Amongst the dishes we ate, our guests also enjoyed the Cai Poh Kway Teow & Oyster Omelette so much so that we ordered them twice! Consistently good food from the kitchen of San Shu Gong.
Date of visit: Sun 28 July 2024
Time : 12 pm
Made a prior reservation for 8 with credit card details required. The no show penalty is $400.
First time here so we ordered based upon some recommendations.
Most of the dishes are charged based per pax so it could be costly.
Outstanding dishes are the fried sea maw and the goose 3-choice platter ensemble.
The desserts like the yam paste orh nee and the deep fried red bean pancake fail to impress.
First time we visited the restaurant for private dining. We had an amazing experience in the restaurant as the food is really outstanding and every meal we had was full of flavour. Thanks to the chef for the delicious meal and Oscar for the attentive and friendly service. Highly recommended to try suckling pig and sweet and sour IBERICO PORK, they were most delicious food I had eaten in Singapore ! Thumb up 👍
Food is on the salty side so it’s just nice. Flavorful but a bit tad expensive.
Celebrated birthday and love how they provide a firework candle.
Would definitely recommend this place for special occasions.
Came here on a friend's recommendation. We booked for this CNY (Feb) gathering back in December!
The food was refined and the finer touches were great.
Yusheng ($108) was a pleasant surprise with 2 types of fish, arugula, jambu and a special sauce that's way better than sour plum. The sesame oil was fragrant.
Emperor's Chicken ($128 preorder required) was also excellently done. It was wrapped in salt and baked, but the chicken itself was roasted before being sealed. The taste of herbs was not overpowering.
Foie gras was good, oyster omelette had a unique texture, cuttlefish balls were OK.
Sea cucumber was deep fried so the texture was crisp on the outside and yet retaining the moisture inside.
We didn't get to try the crabs because the supplier didn't secure good stock that day.
Remarkable! That’s the one word I would use to describe the food and experience at San Shu Gong and credit goes to Boss Roy’s wonderful hospitality. Every dish was amazing and if we need to nail down a dish of the night, it would have to be the deep fried sea cucumber in abalone sauce… absolutely divine. Definitely looking forward to revisiting 👍👍👍.
This is definitely a must recommend place for good food, especially to those who loves Teochew style.
A few must eat dish would like to recommend: the fried sea cucumber with braised mushrooms, the server will pour the sauce when presenting this dish.
Next is the crispy fried oyster omelet, wow! The thin crusty base bring out the slightly burnt egg smell, yummy!
I do love the super wok hei cai po fried kway tiao, a typical Teochew style fried kway tiao, suggest you eat with small amount at a time, chew and let the wok hei turning lingering in your mouth. Awesome!
This place is a GEM! Come here please try the sea cumcumber, oyster omelette, drunken prawn and The goose liver. The rest is not as great!
Food was pretty good though I wished that there was more wok hey and Cai por for the hor fun.
The fried sea cucumber was genius, I’ve never had anything like that before so it was nice to try something new.
The pig stomach chicken soup was flavourful and quite thick.
I liked all the dishes. Desserts could be better, felt that there was too little red bean in the red bean pastry.
Service was good and it was pleasant to eat there.
I had wanted to try the Teochew raw crabs but was disappointed that you need to book at least 2 days in advance for that... Nonetheless, an excuse to go back.
Excellent food and service. All the savoury food were very good. With such an extensive menu, its really hard to pick out what to eat for 2 people..
We were not wowed by the dessert though which is a shame because everything else were good. Reasonable price for the quality of food. Will be back...
When exquisite dishes taste exquisite and humble dishes taste elegant, you know you found a gem!
It’s my 1st visit here for a weekday casual dinner (after finding out that the ex Chui Huay Lim chef Chan has moved here). And wow, I was impressed. Every single dish was very well prepared: the cold crab had a sweetness to its flesh topped with creamy roe; oyster omelette was really top-notch, better than many of its competitors; deep fried sea cucumber was the star; humble dishes like pork liver with spring onions, french beans were also perfectly executed. Especially the pork stomach soup! - this humble soup has depth and the stomach & pork slices equally enjoyable (not 柴 / over cooked).
Definitely will return again. Only thing to whine about is the selection of fishes but I will do better next time in giving them a try.
Pretty good place for Teochew-Cantonese cuisine. Do place reservations early and Definitely preorder some items before going as there are a couple of food we’re looking forward to order were out of stock (braised goose and kampung chicken).
But everything else we ordered were pretty good as well. Service is really good too.
Also if you’re celebrating birthday, you can request for longevity buns (which we did)
1st time here at this popular joint.
1. Started with Baby tomato and 花雕醉虾. Nothing too special not unlike at other restaurants just that the prawns literally soaked in 花雕
2. 大肠was OK very tender
3. Crab翡翠卷was very nice. Best dish so far.
4. The rendition of orh lua was very crispy. Dun think I will enjoy the normal orh lua anymore.
5. 橄榄肉碎四季豆is a very nice combination.
6. Pork ribs soup pot was very flavourful just feel that the soup portion too small hardly fill up the small bowl.
7. Char kuay Teow Wok hei is very on point. Yummy!
8. 泡饭very generous with oysters goes well tgt. Better than the seafood variety outside.
9. Tao suan has 白果and 橙皮 while orh ni is very ordinary.
10. Red bean pancake served piping hot toasted. Nice.
Overall a very satisfied meal, just that it is very rowdy during dinner time.
Our 2nd time there and we loved it still...food quality is high and their sea cucumber was the highlight for the family!
Tip! WhatsApp them for pre order items to avoid confusion.
Would love to head back to try some new dishes...
The only 2 dishes we didn't quite enjoy was Empress Chicken and this new Seaseme dessert.
Fantastic dishes!
Nothing tat I can complain.
Loves all !
Great food and worthy of the hype. Braised/fried sea cucumber and the raw crab dishes were outstanding! Delicate flavors and very nice textures in all their dishes. Place does get crowded and very loud. (Like HK dimsum places loud.) Mgmt could consider acoustic panels on walls and ceiling for a better dining experience (suggestion).
Very enjoyable dinner and certainly will be coming back for more. Top 3 dishes would be the the pig stomach and chicken soup - a true standout - intense flavor, with a nice tinge of pepper. Following that is the steamed fish, teochew style, simple amazing - perfectly done, with the gravy intense, yet light. Lastly, fried kway teow, perfectly infused with wok hey and the subtle taste of cai po. Certainly hope to be able to try more dishes once dine in is possible.
Desserts were not quite my thing but I did try a couple - orh ni, fried yam sticks, red bean pancake - not quite a standout as it’s main dishes, but still pretty decent.
For $100+ per person I was expecting much more. The cold crab, pig stomach soup and sea cucumber dishes were good, but many of the dishes were MUCH too salty and otherwise just standard Teochew fare. The guest toilet is also incredibly crummy. Not a great value for money experience.
The Teochew cuisine here is definitely more refine & unique. Prices are not cheap but quality is good. Service staff were friendly & attentive. Easier to book a table during lunch & the single seating means you will not be rush through your meal. Dinner has 2 seatings, so will be 2 hrs max per seating.
BYO is welcomed with no cockage.
Every dish taste so good, raw crab WOW! Cold crab WOW! Chicken + pig intestine soup WOW! Sea cucumber + mushroom WOW! Goose + TOFU WOW! White asparagus WOW! Steam fish good! 蚝煎 WOW! Water chesnut dessert WOW!
Have heard of this newly open restaurant from some friends so I decided to make a visit, apparently they are serving Teochew restaurant despite the signage did not show. We ordered drunken cold crab, traditional cold crab, butter guard, mix samples of duck meat, fish and pig organs soup, end with Tou Suan and Yum paste. The taste is nice but not outstanding, the pig organs soup is quite salty and too much meat, the mix duck samples is come with dark sauce which i was expecting light sauce with the dip of vinegar, the fish is serve cold and dip with soy bean which I find the texture of the fish is not the normal texture I expected, the butter guard is nice and the dessert is ok, definitely it is not traditional classic Teo Chew cuisines, is more like fusion.
The ambience is Average, comfortable enough to dine in, but nothing fancy, I heard the boss said they will open two more shops so that the space become bigger.
The food was amazing. All the dishes are recommended but my faves were the cold crab, Spanish pork, oyster omelette and orh née! Do also pre order the crab qhen you make your reservation if you intend to have it.
The best was the sea cucumber for me. The charred skin tasted like siew yoke .was so surprised ! The oyster omelette felt more like oyster crepe..I prefer that done in traditional style rather than this version
Interesting oyster omelette that you must try!!! Taste so yummy 😋 Prawn ball is full of prawn… braised goose meat can be better! Braised salted pork rib with mustard plant! Braised Cabbage roll stuffing with yellow crab roe & pork! Fried Kway Tiao with chai Bo…
Soup, oyster omelette, water chestnut (new product) are surprisingly very nice. Other food is also nice.
Was hosted here for dinner. The reputation of the restaurant stand up, with the quality of the food and service. Only slight discomfort is that there are two sittings for the night and you have to complete the meal within 2 hours.
Been a long time since I truly enjoyed every single dish in a Chinese restaurant. Very clean yet flavorful, food at San Shu Gong is outstanding. Will be back to try more dishes.
The must try dish is crispy sea cucumber!
The restaurant definitely looks after the salt content of each dish, making sure not too much salt. My personal preference is more savory.
Anyway, will go back for second round.
Small restaurant that serves up HK interpretation of Teochew dishes. Do try the cold crab and oyster omelette
One if the better Chinese restaurants in recent years. Make reservations. The wait list can be long. A must try is the orluak, soy sauce chicken and orhnee.
solid teochew dishes. stars were defo the crabs n oyster omelette. constant plate changes and free corkage a definite plus. desserts were less impressive tho, skip.
A newly opened restaurant in 2021 which serves authentic teochew and cantonese cuisines. The ingredients are fresh and can feel the amount of effort and sincerity put in cooking the food for the customers. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and attentive. They served tea and drinks v quickly and refilled our tea frequently. Excellent service! The restaurant is suitable for family and friends gathering.love the sea cucumber and roast chicken
Mind blowing quality. Every dish done to perfection. Ingredients of the highest quality (especially seafood). Can't wait for my next visit.
Great food nice place free corkage. BUT lousy service. Minute we sat down was just a rush!! Like tze char stall even though the name is private dining.
nice teochew food and free corkage. definitely worth a try.
Food was ok, but nothing fantastic that makes me must go again. Teochew food but have a bit of Cantonese style to it. The price isn't that fantastic though, can easily get much better elsewhere.
The service is fantastic. Very friendly polite waiter. Atmosphere is very good.
Probably too high expectations of the so called private dining...the access to the private room was horrendous - wet and slippery.
Crazy price for Patin Fish - $480, and the captain even has the cheek to compare to Empurau 😆 ( though I personally do not fancy it)
Only the Pig Intestine Soup, Chempedak Prawn, Oyster Omelette, roasted French Chicken were good...others very normal and not worth the price
The food is delicious and it would be great to have a larger restaurant in the future.
With an interesting name like that, I had high expectations to be "wowed". Hits and misses through the night...
The yu sheng was refreshing and enjoyable. Off to a good start.
Sea cucumber was interesting in its deep fried form. Soon Hock with aged cai poh, oyster pancake, chicken pig's stomach soup, fried hor fun and dessert to top off. A bit of a mish mash of identity, can't really call it fusion; I got a bit lost. Food tended to be oily perhaps it was because of the choices. I wish I could call it comfort food. Overall tasty but I think I was more overehelmed than comforted...
Service wss attentive and professional but the ambience was crowded and cramped. The so called private room kind of merged into the rest of the noisy restaurant... Not worth the money paid.
Had a birthday celebration with family at Sanshugong yesterday. Thanks to Chef Roy and his service crew, our family really had a good time and at the same time enjoyed their food.
1.) Service 5/5
Contrary to the online reviews about poor service, we did not experience any of that. Waitress attending to us was very attentive. We had ordered the Deep Fried Sea Cucumber with Abalone sauce. The dish comes in individual portion, however, as not everyone eats Sea Cucumber, we have ordered 5 portions for 10 pax. The waitress have meticulously helped to cut and serve the dish in a sharing plate to make it easier for everyone to share, and ensure that there are sufficient portions for everyone to try.
Our plates were also cleared once almost after every two round of dish to ensure that we have a clean plate for next dish. However, once again contrary to online reviews about service crew being impatient, the waitress that attended to us was extremely patient. She would come in and change the plates, but if some diners still have food on their plates, she would come in again after awhile to do the change. To us, such actions exemplify the meticulousness as she could have easily left the clean plates with us where some restaurant does it and diners might end up having two plates at some point
It was really easy to get hold of the waitress to attend to our needs too. Despite the restaurant being busy, our requests like getting extra plate of chili or a glass of water was always fulfilled promptly by the waitress. Another highlight of the service experience would be Chef Roy coming in for a chat when we enquired about CNY reunion dinner reservation (we had enjoyed the food so much that we already decided that we want to come here for reunion dinner even though it is only April). Chef Roy was really friendly and when he learnt that we are here for a birthday celebration, he treated our table to Longevity peaches that was served fancifully in a tree shaped carriers. It even came with firework candles. This really enhance the experience and the older family members enjoyed it a lot
2.) Food 5/5
Tried a variety of dishes, and everyone enjoyed all the dishes. Think a few of the favorites were the Pao Fan, Orh Luak, Braised Goose, and Deep Fried Sea Cucumber.
Pao Fan had a really flavorful soup accompanied by a hinge of ginger which complements the flavor of the soup really well! The Ti Po in the soup was also really crispy and fragrant when you bite on it. Despite being soaked in the soup, the Ti Po did not turn soft and its crispiness helped to gave the Pao Fan an extra crunch which really enhanced the texture.
The braised goose was another favorite of the family. It was really fragrant and flavorful. It is not just plain salty like some bad braised food, the braised sauce was so good that we wish there was a bowl of Kway Chap to go with it! The bean curd underneath the goose meat was really soft and absorbed the braised sauce really well. It did not have the sour aftertaste which some bean curd might have.
Deep Fried Sea Cucumber was a dish that had impressed us. We have tried Deep Fried Sea Cucumber at other restaurants before. However, the dish usually sounds fancier than it taste. The Deep Fried Sea Cucumber usually does not come being crispy when it is served. And because of the sauce that the Sea Cucumber have soaked in, the Sea Cucumber ends up tasting like some potato chips that have lost its crisp. However, Sanshugong have done this dish really well. The Sea Cucumber is first served without the sauce. The waitress then brings in the abalone sauce and drizzle it in front of us. This presentation have helped to ensure that the Sea Cucumber doesnt go soft and we are able to enjoy the crispy skin of the Sea Cucumber. In addition, there is a charred taste (wok hei) to the Sea Cucumber which adds to the aroma.
A great place for a good lunch or dinner. The food is really cooked to perfection.
Great place, great taste and fantastic service. You need to give it a try!
An authentic experience of good quality ingredients, with innovative ways of presenting old favorites without being pretentious.
A good place to bring family and friends to enjoy a celebratory meal.
Good service and great food. It might be slighter pricey and the portion is smaller. I recommend to try their oyster pancake, crabmeat fish maw soup and white asparagus.
It is not easy to reserve a table here but the online system makes the booking easier. The dishes are a mix of Teochew and Cantonese cuisine and all done to a very high standard. I would recommend the omelette which was extremely unique and also the yam paste dessert. To balance things out, add a steamed fish into your selection so that the meal does not feel too heavy.
Would be a no-brainer if we stopped at the first few dishes, that drew gasps amongst our friends, i.e. Teochew cold crab with roe, pig stomach soup and the deep fried sea cucumber with mushrooms (the fave for sure). The steamed prawns, kway teow with chai por, preserved vegetable steamed fish, oyster omelette, braised goose and kailan were okay. But the most underwhelming (yet most expensive dish at $242) was the mantis prawn in Typhoon Shelter/Bay style, with the little morsels of mushy flesh. Bill came out to about $1,100 for 8 pax, not including drinks which thankfully we had brought our own wine at no corkage charge. Would visit again but definitely giving some of the dishes a miss.
My family of 3, together with my parents, went for lunch at San Shu Gong Private Dining. We ordered Kampong Seasoned Chicken, Deep-fried Ngoh Hiang, Pan-fried Spanish Kurobuta Pork Fillet, Deep-fried Deshelled Prawn Coated with Salted Egg, Braised Superior Shark's Fin Soup, Braised Australian Scallop with Mi Sua in Seafood Broth and Wok-fried "Cai Pu" Kway Teow with XO Sauce. The food was very good and even my daughter, who is a fussy eater' was eating very well at the restaurant.
The Kampong Chicken was very tender, the generous chestnut in the Ngoh Hiang made it crispy and crunchy to the bite yet soft enough such that it crumbled effortlessly in the mouth, the Spanish Kurobuta Pork Fillet was robustly flavored, tender and juicy, the Shark's Fin Soup was authentically tasty and the Kway Teow with XO Sauce had a contrasting texture (with the added kale stems) with a signature hint of charred smokiness.
Special mention to the Prawn Coated with Salted Egg. Though this is a common dish that could be found almost everywhere, it tasted better here. My parents said that the difference lies in the freshness of the prawns. Last but not least, the Mi Sua was my daughter's top favourite! Today was the first time she ate Mi Sua without having to force.
In short, my experience today could be summed in these few words: amazing customer service, comfortable atmosphere and top-quality food. Definitely a place where I would visit again! :)
Excellent meal, friendly staff, delicious food. Recommend the raw crab and roe.
We are a Teochew family, and my Dad and his siblings are pretty picky about their Teochew food, and always complaining about how this place or the other used to be good, but now the standard dropped, etc.
When some of my friends raved about how good this place was, I decided to take them for a meal.
The dinner slots were booked out for the next 2 months, but I managed to find a lunch slot 3 weeks away so I took it.
The food was excellent - as a Teochew family we've pretty much tried most of the famous places in Singapore, and we all agreed this place was superb.
Unlike most Teochew restaurants in Singapore, which stick to very traditional and classical recipes and presentation, this place introduces some creative and modern ideas, like their super-crispy version of Orh Lua, or the Tomatoes marinated in preserved plum juice. But its not a "fusion" style - they add creativity without departing from the classic Teochew flavours. The raw crab, a classic Teochew dish, was the best we've ever tried, and they somehow managed to execute it without drowning it in soya sauce like how most places do it, allowing us to really taste the flavour of the crab.
Totally understand why it's so hard to get a table at this place...
Sunday, 30/10/2022: Great Teochew food - much better than a well known Michelin starred restaurant. Food was tasty, fresh, innovative & on point. Service is a bit lacking but the food more than made up for it. Fried oysters pancake & charred sea cucumber were yummilicious. Fried kway teow with preserved veg (typical Teochew dish) has wok hei and not oily (which a lot of Teochew restaurants are guilty of).
Brought my parents and brother there for Sunday lunch. Reservations made 2 weeks in advance. Pre-ordered cold crab with roe. Had the cold threadfin, fried prawn balls, kailan, radish horfun, red bean pancake and fried waterchestnut kueh. My parents loved it. The boss Roy was also very accommodating and friendly, often answering my parents many questions. Thank you for making our Sunday lunch an enjoyable occasion.
Apologies for no photos. Too busy eating the delicious dishes.
Love the food, great service. All the service staffs always serve with a smile. Please reserve months ahead to avoid disappointment. The cold crab is a must.
This restaurant doesn't accept walk-in customers, you have to make a booking at least a few months before you come here. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever dined in! They are fully booked months ahead. Highly recommended!
Food was delicious (particularly the scallop and prawn dishes) and the service was attentive and friendly. Highly recommended
The place was in a very seedy area. Food was pretty good however nothing fantastic. The service stuff were very laid back n left much to be desired.( not friendly nor pleasant nor efficient) The cutlery were chipped n when i pointed it out to them she said ' oh it is like tat but dont worry very thick glass.' Haha well i guess geylang svc will be like this and one has to manage one's expectations.
Awesome food, esp love the raw crab, prawn roll, fried kway tiao (which is surprisingly not oily at all) and dessert! However service can be better....
Food is great, Service too. Hard to get table, so do book in advance. Will definitely be back again.
Good service but a bit pricey
Generally interesting and yummy, except goose. The meat was dry
Simple dishes done extraordinarily well. Oyster omelette, soya sauce chicken, ngor hiang, chye por kway trow are all outstanding.
Excellent classic Chao Zhou (Teochew) foods available for those who wish to enjoy traditional Teochew dishes.
Great food, need reservations.
Love it! The dishes are absolutely delectable!
The environment is beautiful, the food is beyond expectation, there is a private room for singing, and the waiters are very considerate.
I really recommend everyone to try it💗💗
Although the price was a little high, I was impressed by the food and taste that I couldn't experience at other restaurants. Although the quantity is quite large, you can enjoy a wide variety of dishes with a large number of people. Reservations are required and some dishes are reserved a week in advance, so we recommend making reservations well in advance. Raw pickled crab and red crab miso are especially great. There are special dishes that are off the menu depending on the day, so be sure to ask. In my case, I ordered a venison dish👍.
The frozen crab and other food here are also delicious, especially the crispy sea cucumber, which surprised me. Everyone must try it
Highly recommend..Every dish is made with care! Surprised..👍👍😊
tasty
They are all specialties and they also have tastings.
