Reviews of Seletar Hill Restaurant
One of the dishes that impressed me the most was the camphor tea smoked duck (樟茶鸭). It had a nice balance of smoky and herbal flavors, and the skin was crispy while the meat was tender and juicy. For dessert, I highly recommend the durian and mango pudding. It was a delightful combination of creamy durian and refreshing mango, and the pudding had a soft and smooth texture. It was a perfect way to end the meal on a sweet note. The restaurant is quite small, so it's best to make a reservation before you go.
Great place to dine in, taste of food is good, the ambience in the restaurant is nice not so noisy. Varieties of dishes quite a lot n price is reasonable. Parking an be challenging but if later a bit in the evening should be able to get a lot to park. Not pushy to order a lot of food. Will definitely go back again.
Szechuan cuisine with abit of (Ang mo) taste 😊. Some of the taste of their dish remind me of American Chinese restaurant in state. I miss my Panda Express and some nice Chinese restaurant in San Francisco chinatown and New York. The hot and sour soup was good beside chewing on some shredded old bamboo shoots (like chewing the sugar cane ) . The Tso chicken still as good 👍. Black pepper Venison was tender and well marinated but too big chunks lucky it’s tender and melts in your mouth so the size was forgiven 🤣. The four season veg was savoury and crisp. Was eyeing at their dessert but it’s too much to handle this time . Will be back for it the next round . A small suggestion the restaurant might want to consider placing their attractive bowl of candy away from table 33? We still have to adhere to social distancing and during my dinner I have parents and children coming over to my table squeeze behind my chair several time helping themselves with the candy. First there was a breach in social distancing coming so closed second every time they accidentally hit the chair caused discomfort to whoever sitting there in that small little space. Other then that I think it was a wonderful dinner .
No standout dishes but we will very likely return again.
Pros- all the dishes we tried were decent, and the restaurant had a cosy ambience that didn’t feel overly crowded during dinner on a public holiday. We ordered camphor tea smoked duck, sea cucumber with duck, sweet sour sauce fish fillet, general tso’s chicken, tung-po pork with buns, kang kong shrimp paste, szechuan sauteed stringbean, crab meat omelette, sweet & spicy jellyfish and a horfun for sharing with rice. 10 dishes for 8 people.
Cons- the previous reviewers were correct: waitresses were pushy / up-selling when ordering, they frequently tried to clear the plates while we were still eating. I would attribute this partially to their rather small portions. A medium-sized kang kong barely made one round around the table of 8 mostly with small appetites; a small-sized fish fillet dish couldn’t serve 8 comfortably.
Some might say the food isn’t great value for money due to the portion sizes, but then again there’s no point having large portions of mediocre food. Try this place out and decide for yourselves.
Came to know by recommendation of a relative. Went there for reunion dinner. Nice hidden gem of a restaurant albeit small place. The first good impression came from the politeness of service staff upon entry into restaurant. The food came fast and was tasty. Special shout out to the duck. Shiok! Public parking lots are available near the restaurant, but gets filled up fast. Go early. Overall a nice experience and will go back again.
If ever you want to taste authentic food from the 80s and 90s . Come back to the past and experience nostalgia at its finest.
Food was served very quickly. The smoked duck is a must order :) gives u old school vibes and friendly staff . Will come again 👌
90% of their food are good here. Desserts are superior. No gst no service charge.
Worth the time and money! It serves few authentic hokkien food and price is reasonable.
Super nice and popular traditional Chinese food! Definitely a pleasant and unique taste to try!
I think food taste is average but the waiting time was long with 50% occupancy, waited about 45 mins for 3 dishes
A bit oily
Miss their food especially the smoked duck...
Call in to order and the pick up was smooth..
Food is yummy and unique especially the kong bak pao and stew cabbage. But portion is small and a bit pricey :(
Small and cozy good for family gatherings. Because space is small, it's abit squeezy and noisy when eating but it gives a warm homely feel while dining. Food is good and price is reasonable!
The last time I was here was more than 10 years ago and the food is still great.
Old school styles restaurants. Quite expensive but good to try
Overall experience was nice until they cleared one of my table when we were taking group photo. In the end that table was taken by new customers who walked in. So my guests ended up standing. Quite upset with this experience which spoil the birthday celebration.
This place serves fantastic food! A traditional restaurant that serves fufilling delicious food. We have been eating here for years! Its a pity that this hidden gem is not tasted by more people!
We ordered mostly the signatures and the food was really tasty. Highlight for me would be the tung po pork with buns! Only negative for me was the air conditioning was quite weak and it gets warm after having some hot and spicy dishes.
Quaint and homely setting. Ordered 7 large dishes for 11 pax. Bill came up to $200+ w/o GST or Service charge, which was a pleasant surprise. The meat dishes were okay, braised pork was good, the duck was passable. But I think their vegetables dishes stood out more for me. Overall it was a great place for weekend family meal that is affordable and serves pretty decent food.
very very good authentic Chinese food with a touch of signature hard to replicate dishes. Staff are excellent in service and place is kept speckless, posh yet maintaining cheap prices. General Tso's chicken, fish and fried golden buns with pork is simply delicious. Chrysanthemum tea was free flow @ $1.50 brewed fresh and hot. Egg drop soup was tremendously good, couldn't stop eating. Overall 10/10 in everything.
Classic Chinese food that hit the mark.. nothing pretentious, just solid good Chinese food. Highly recommend the duck and mapo tofu
I really like the food here. Highly recommended dishes: smoked duck, si ji dou. No gst or service charge either
Brought some overseas friends here and was rather disappointed with the food. Been coming here over the years but somehow felt the quality of food has gone down. Waitress was rather pushy and kept saying food wasn't enough for the 6 of us. We had the camphor duck, General Tso chicken, the crispy prawns, string beans, hot and sour soup, hotplate tofu, dong po rou, string beans and spinach. How is that little? And they kept rushing us. When we were almost finished eating our dessert and while we were still seated, they started clearing the table. Then after clearing the table, they presented us the bill without us asking for it. Finally one of the waitress asked sheepishly if we could shift to a huge table because they needed our table for another group that was coming. It wasn't as if we spent the whole night there. We only spent not more than 1 and a half hours there but we felt rushed throughout the meal. The only good thing was the durian pudding which my guests said was very nice. I dont think they enjoyed the other dishes veru much. On top of that, they really need to work on their service standard.
The food here is on the whole v good as I came here w friends and ordered a number of dishes as u can see from one of the photos I uploaded. However, I separately ordered a small San lo hor fun for a friend who came later and when the bill came it was 18 dollars. I was absolutely shocked because the meal for 11 people cost 210 bucks and on average less than 20 per person. I would appreciate an explanation.
Food is generally good and it is a further plus point that we stay walking distance to this place. Weekends can get crowded and the waiting staff can barely cope but they are super friendly and polite so that helps with the wait. The ultimate highlights here will definitely have to be the desserts - have to try the mango pudding, durian pudding and the chendol!
Overall, the food was yummy. Initial order came out slow. But we had to hurry up as there were two sittings. A bit rush. Parking can be a problem.
Serving is fast. Usually crowded. Call to reserve a table.
Serves gd range of food n not usual dishes. Parking can b a challenge as it's within a residential area.
The veg and mapo tofu was not bad. Light and well done. But the dish that sealed the deal was the smoked duck. Never tasted anything like this before. I’ll never eat dian xiao er again after this. Hahaha
Great food. Will come again
Although the last order was 9:30pm. Good service was still received when we walk in. The food are awesome, especially the chicken. A must try 5star dish.
Desserts are really good.
Most dishes are tasty but not amazing.
Fabulous food. Service can be rather slow during peak hour due to limited staff.
Very very decent place for home cooked food. The only reason it did not score a 5 is that it is slightly pricey. But great!
Do patronised this restaurant. Food is nice and tasty. Price also reasonable. No GST and service charge
Very ok
Old school Sichuan style restaurant with a vibe of the 90s. Camphor roasted duck is a must try.
The food is yummy and price reasonably. Need to book in advance.
Love the crab meat fried rice for quick meal. Other fav would be General Tsao chicken n smoked duck
Braised pork bun, sambal long beans both are yummy. Dessert chendol is good.
Old school US style Chinese restaurant. Food is OK
General Tsao Chicken is a hit with my kids. They don't charge GST and service charge.
Yummy food, good price, comfortable place. Highly recommended!
awesome Sichuan food. some staff can't speak English so it can be a bit inconvenient.
Small, indoor tables limited … foods not bad but expensive :(
Good and affordable food at a surprising location in a private estate. Parking could be a problem though.
The Kung bao chicken n general lok pork buns are to die for.
Authentic Chinese food. Great service and ambience. Fast service as well
The herbal duck is a must try! 2nd time there. :)
Very good food with value for money price
Good Chinese food at quite reasonable pricing
Hidden restaurant with reasonable food.
Camphor smoked duck is a winner.
