Reviews of Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant - Beach Road
Si Chuan Dou Hua is a well decorated and well spaced out Chinese restaurant serving up Si Chuan dishes that are done really well.
Look out for the waiter pouring hot water using a metal pot with a spout that is longer than your arm. The food has always been good. The wrapped Peking duck has a good ratio of skin, scallions and cucumber. Ask for additional hoisin sauce if u need to douse your Peking duck wraps with more sauce. The Sui Zhu Yu uses garouper slices with have a soft and smooth texture. The best was their la zi ji whereby the dish was filled with chunks of boneless fried diced chicken. Try the pork slices with chilli garlic sauce.
Always worth a return.
Food was good here particularly the Kung Bao prawn which came with small peppercorns giving your tastebuds a numbing effect. A complaint though, the dishes served were huge, and they came with vegetables. The prawns came with broccoli and the special tofu came with xiao bai cai. The waitress could have warned us so we don’t over order. And a weakness of this restaurant: the rice was served cold. When informed, the waitress said “Oh, you want hot rice?” Strange for a top Chinese restaurant…
Food is nice! There are a few mala dishes which are too spicy for us. Desserts are nice too. Like the drunken prawn and GUI Hua Gao the most. Overall food wise is good. However, it’s not worth paying for $5 per pax for the tea which is tasteless and the prickle and peanuts. It’s so little and staff doesn’t replenish promptly. In fact at certain points, we started getting hot water to pour into the tea cup. Service is slow and staff are not so helpful either.
Great sichuan spicy mala food. Loved their fried chicken & mapo tofu. The sweet sauce pork was appetizing as well. The downside was their service - severely understaff & overworked servers.
A warmly-lit and inviting Szechuan restaurant with terrific UOB credit card promotions. We enjoyed most of the dishes and the desserts and were stuffed at the end of our meal. I’d say most of their dishes are either spicy and good, or non-spicy and bland. So when in doubt, always choose the spicier version (our non-spicy lamian broth tasted like water..). The service staff were very kind to explain and describe every dish when we asked them, and were prompt in clearing or serving new dishes. Great for both a family meal and a business luncheon!
Was a breeze to get a takeaway order of food from this location. Placed the order at least 45 mins earlier and set a time to drive by and collect it. The food was ready on time and I was in and out within 15 mins.
My order was two sliced fish soups
- Boiled Sliced Fish in Sichuan
Pepper Sauce x size small
- Boiled sliced fish in spicy chilli oil
And they were just was great comfort food ... Not only is the fish sliced and cooked to perfection, at least my standards, but were the right firmness and didn't feel overcooked once eaten at home.
The soups had great distinct flavors to them and I must say for once I couldn't choose my clear favorite. But the only critique I could share of the restaurant was they missed one aspect making the chilli oil dish a bit less spicy 🔥 ... The dish left a burn the next day.
But still very enjoyable - despite the fire alarm next day.
Can't wait to try food at the restaurant itself next time.
Given the menu at this location ... This just has become my new favorite Si Chuan Duo Hua location ... Easily edging out the one at UOB towers.
The bean curd was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed its smooth, silky texture. It was not too sweet, and the taste was perfect.
Though the chicken was slightly spicy, it still tasted great. I would recommend it to people who enjoy eating spicy food.
First experience with Dian Hong Tea which has such an exquisite taste. Thanks Sabrina for your recommendation! Your service is truly commendable! We will be back.
Food is nice but others are not.
I went to other Si Chuan Dou Hua in Singapore.
It was first time trying this branch.
Easier to make a reservation compare to One at UOB plaza.
I usually go to si chuan dou hua for Chinese high tea. This time is to try Chinese New Year high tea.
Reservation
Called few times but nobody pick up the call. Even someone pick up, person talked to me in Chinese. Thought it was a scam call haha.
But as I said here is easier to make a reservation. It’s good option if you couldn’t make a reservation at UOB.
I was at the restaurant 10min before the reservation. Waited for 20min no staff were available.
The customer service was not what I expected.
Hard to get hot water, took very long to get menu, grumpy waitress.....
I’m at the restraint at 5 star hotel, not a hawker centre. I expect much better customer service.
Foods are nice as usual but don’t expect good customer service
Nice food. The 辣子鸡 is the best I ever ate in Singapore. Fish is the second best and not forgetting the desserts.
Had a yummy CNY dinner at this restaurant where all the dishes were delicious and the price was very reasonable. The service was also attentive. Had a great gathering.
Gastronomic Journey of Sichuan Flavours 味的巡禮
七滋︰甜、酸、麻、辣、苦、香、鹹
八味︰魚香、酸辣、椒麻、怪味、麻辣、紅油、薑汁、家常
35 dishes with complimentary sakura sake. A great all-in-one experience for us who wants to try a bit of everything of Sichuan.
Would be better if each dish can be labelled or introduced, so that we know what we are eating. (There is a menu listing down all dishes so we could guess and match, which was fun too)
PS. wasabi isn't really a Sichuan flavour but no harm adding japanese element in the menu i guess (;
Nice, tranquile atmosphere. Food was intricately made and was delicious. Only thing was that the noodles we ordered took3 or 4 reminders and very long to arrive
They are popular with Sichuan cuisine, good service and good ambient.
I order a fish maw soup and it tastes strong pepper soup based, so I wouldn’t suggest if you want to try Cantonese dishes at this place. My friend order a Sichuan style soup with crab meat but chef has forgotten the crab meat, the staff immediately changed for us after we highlight to them.
Their Sichuan style dishes are good but I find the spicy level are slightly stronger. The meat selection of the stir fried pork has so much fat.
My wife and I had the pleasure of hosting our wedding at Si Chuan Dou Hua on Beach Road, where the food and venue exceeded our expectations. The attentive staff ensured a seamless dining experience, and we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Shirley, our banquet manager, for her exceptional support throughout the entire process.
Surprisingly very nice food from a hotel.
Service is also good. Healthcare workers get 50% off during their staycation. Other days, it's 30% discount.
Very exquisite and tastefully done. The Weekend A La Carte Dim Sum Buffet promotion until 27 Sep 2020 is worth every cent.
Good Sichuan food for business lunches but I suggest don't go for set meals. They are small. Rather order ala carte to get the full experience.
The tea server is great to watch with his Super Long spouted water pot.
Savouring the Bento Set E ($18) from @SiChuanDouHua_SG which has an excellent mix of side dishes. The bento set includes:
* Silver Cod in Superior Soya Sauce
* Stir-fried Diced Chicken in Sichuan Style
* Stir-fried Seasonal Vegetables with Shimeiji Mushroom and Black Fungus
* Oriental Fried Rice
* Homemade Beancurd with Wolfberries
Highly recommended. Hosted our wedding banquet here. Had great feedback from our guests that food was amazing. The restaurant manager, Shirley, was professional, friendly, responsive and great to work with.
Super low service here, I called for the waiter for 20 mins but no one came. Food is ok, but service not.
My total bill is $134. Dim sum is quite average. Definitely is considered overpriced but I'm there for the atmosphere. There's only two to three service staff service is a tad slow.
Probably my favourite go-to for spicy sichuan food! The 辣子鸡 here is my favourite - best in Singapore if u ask me. Many other dishes are also very well done - mapo tofu, 夫妻肺片, french beans, 水煮fish and/or beef… the list goes on.
One thing that I’ve never ordered here are fresh seafood. I don’t find the need to. Plus I don’t think I can’t taste the produce with my burnt & numbed tongue. 😂
We just had our wedding dinner and tea ceremony at SCDH on beach road, and everything was so well done! The food was awesome and the service staff were all friendly and very efficient.
We would also like to give a special shoutout to the banquet manager, Shirley, she was extremely helpful and easy to work with throughout the entire process.
Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a wedding dinner venue! :)
Came here 3x and we think service could be better. The staffs are disorganised, nowhere to be found if we need their help to order, to refill water, to ask for bill, etc. 1 of our dishes took longer than the others and by the time it was served we were full. Overall they should train their staffs to be more organised and more staffs to be available in the main dining area instead of them always going to the kitchen.
Exceptional food as usual. Eunice and cindy service were on point throughout the dinner
Food, environment and service are top noted. The bean curd ks really delicious.
Very nice ambience and good spread of food to choose from... very high quality of food served..👍🏻👍🏻will be better if the air con is not that cold.
Famous for its silky and soft dou hua desserts and noodle delights, together with a delectable blend of Sichuan dishes and dim sum, this establishment consistently serves authentic Sichuan cuisine in cosy and classy surroundings, great for families, groups and anyone who fancies a wholesome and delightful Sichuan dining experience...
Sichuan food should be spicy, hot and more spicy!
Unlike the drivel that masquerades as Sichuan food found in food courts these days, you can tell that the chef here takes his food seriously with an artistic sensibility.
Take the La Zhi Ji. A common/standard dish. What they have done here is simply amazing. Each golden fried price of chicken has been lovingly seasoned and fried to perfection. No errant pieces of bone, no overly liberal application of salt. Every piece is perfect in itself.
And the namesake dou hua truly lives up to its name. Found in the noodles, or with veggies or as a desert, it shows more character and backbone than Douhua is known for. Not like the beancurd found in Selegie, this beancurd is smooth, firm, soft and refined.
I can’t recommend this place enough.
Good authentic Asian food. Good Flavor and spicy.
Went for restaurant week lunch menu. Really enjoyed the food with my family, super value for money
Good Manager Cindy and good waitress . 👍 Food is good ! Lo-hei dish with salmon skin is nice .
If you enjoy spicy food, this is a nice place to dine. Didn’t enjoy the spicy century egg though.
Food was ok but services was terrible.
Every orders come very slowwwwww.
I was at the Royal Park Hotel, Beach Road branch
Food was good, e.g. 辣子鸡, double-boiled soup,
Service was bad. Impatience while taking order, recommend food unnecessarily. Waitress moving around but wasn't attentive to call.
Removing of dishes from table without asking if we had finished, This occurs many times.
If you do not mind about service, food is really good.
First time visit here over SG Restaurant Week - fabulous set lunch !!!
Food is superb. Manager Sabrina's service is excellent. Great recommendation on food.
Mediocre restaurant, nice setting and food decoration but service is mediocre and do so is the taste … I do not get the excitement from other reviews:)
This is my go-to place for a good Szechuan meal, because the food is consistently tasty, the atmosphere is nice and the prices are reasonable. My meal came up to $130 for a family of 4.
If I had to be picky, the 四季豆 was a tad salty.
They do however feel understaffed on Friday nights. Had to wait a while to get attention, or for my tea to be refilled. Otherwise, service is polite and good.
The dishes were really yummy except think short of staff.
Shirley's service is impeccable. She was extremely helpful and attentive to our needs. Everything proceeded perfectly because of her high level of responsibility. Due to some issues, we had to cancel the banquet, but she go the extra mile to suggest to us to use the deposit for a family gathering.
Held our wedding here. Food was very good! Restaurant manager shirley was kind and helpful. She is very prompt in replies and accomodate to many of our requests. Highly recommend!!
We had our lunch at beach Road branch, overall the food are delicious, the spicy prawn hot plate and 酸汤鱼片 are nice but the tea chicken meat is a bit dry. Service is good, Sabrina is very helpful.
Was there for brunch today. Food was good. Very authentic Sichuan. But Mum was not into spicy or mala. Luckily the manager, Sabrina, recommended many non spicy dishes. And her service was good. Dishes to recommend was the chicken with dried chilli (辣子雞),mapo tofu, cod fish, noodles. The soya bean curd was superb too. We all had a very enjoyable afternoon. So much so that Dad made reservation for the following week to bring his friends.
I feel that they had nailed it in terms food, service and atmosphere!
Great experience. Nice service
Definite a good experience! Many thanks for manager Shirley and her team’s support on hosting company event.
Our go-to Szechuan Restaurant in Singapore for over five years now. We love their tea (from tea master), greens, mapo tofu, Dandanmien, soups and also the dim sum. The quality of the food has always been excellent and the atmosphere has been much improved with last years renovation. Lately the table-service has become really good as well (previously a bit hit-and-miss)!
The restaurant manager Shirley Eng has been very helpful to cater and serve us for 2.5days in the restaurant. It’s always good food and services.
Excellent food and most of all, service! Our best to Sabrina and her team of colleagues!
Best mapo tofu of my life!!!!
Food was good and fantastic service from Sabrina. She made the evening extra special with her sunny disposition.
Sabrina is a very good manager. Very helpful and sensitive manager. Have an enjoyable dining experience here.😊
Good sichuan food but so so spicy... also abit pricey, and didn’t like that I paid $6++ per cup of tea (a fifth of my family’s bill was the cost of tea)
We are regular visitors to Sichuan Douha because we love the food and service! Keep an eye out for sabrina, she always remembers our orders and offers great suggestions
