Reviews of Sin Chie Toke Huan Hainanese Curry Rice
I used to dine here when I was a kid. Back then, they only start business at 2 am and there was already snake queue outside the shop. The old uncle cooking the porridge is in white singlet and traditional pyjamas pant. Those days they have the watery curry beef which taste really good. The taste now still taste very authentic hainanese and I am glad they are still in awesomely good business. Get ready to queue for your food and at times is challenging to find vacant seats.
Curry is not spicy nor lemak enough… the wet pork chop is nicer than the dry one. As the rice was drizzled with curry it was easy to finish the whole plate.
A little hot, though it's one of the nicest curry rice around. The reason i say that is because it's a great supper spot and their rice and porridge have stayed consistent throughout the years. Not to mention, they sell delicious desserts! Do give it a try!
Foods was nice, and valuable for price. White rice with curry sauce and variety of veges. All vegies I like to eat. Lol. Sometimes long q, need to be patient.
Have Cendol ice also, but I never try yet. Overall good and recommended.
The curry sauce is very old school. Other than that, I find it average though there are a lot of people buying the curry rice. The chilli is spicy. After all, it's normal.
Do take note they only open at 5pm.
Update 8 Aug 2022: Prices went up significantly though dishes taste quite similar to before. Handling of queue situation became worse once they decided to accept grab orders. The assistants inside become flustered with orders from actual queueing customers.
Crazy queues all the time at dinner time. Superb quality curry rice, very home cooked feeling.
Try the har Cheong kai, pork chop, fried eggs, Tao kua, potato slices amongst other good food.
The adjoining stall that sells porridge is also good. The chendol as well. Worth a visit if you are in this area.
Rarely you will have a Singaporean whom doesn't enjoy curry rice. This here is what I will consider as a lighter version. Not that gooey, starchy nor strong flavored type. Actually it taste very much and reminds me of what I had when still in school 30 years ago, probably that's why I liked it.
Right after our movie ended @ PLQ, we came in for comfort food, we love pork chop, first time here and easy to find a table as most diners opted take away, maybe is a Tuesday, I sent a sms earlier just to see if it’s open, thank you Uncle for replying. Your dishes are good and satisfying, and 5 dishes for $21, why not? Can save , save. We will be back ! PS. They open at 5pm
Curry rice is not bad but not the best. You can skip the pork chop, there are far better ones out there. Must order include the potato, pork slices in braised sauce, chicken wing!
Many come here for the curry rice. Judging by the queue, it is obvious the curry rice is delicious. However, i would like to mention that this small porridge stall located within serves excellent porridge! Although the meat and fillings are not too huge, the porridge is always cook to perfection! Please give it a try too! Awesome!
Rare place whose food still has that old Singaporean hawker taste. Good crowd and queue on a weekday evening. Price was not cheap for Packet rice.
Our favourite curry rice with yummy side dishes. Love the authentic chendol too! Always our comfort food! The pork chop is below average though.
Usually patronise Xing Long Porridge for supper, but decided to give this place a go as I usually see long queue but tonight is a quiet night.
Got the Hainanese Curry Rice, Pork Porridge and Cheng Tng.
Hainanese curry rice is decent, I see many review that it’s salty, but it’s just right for me. Could use a spicy sauce or powder as I prefer more heat. Got the Sesame Chicken, Minced Pork, and vegetables which hit the spot for me. Feel like home cooked comfort food.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Pork Congee. At $5.10, I get a hearty bowl of congee filled with mixed pork, with an egg. It was pure comfort food. Recommend to add pepper to give it an additional kick.
The last was Cheng Tng. Didn’t expect much to be honest, but when I tasted it, it was one of the best Cheng Tng I had. The sweetness was just right, and full of ingredients. Can tell that they make a number of their toppings from scratch.
Don’t expect much service, it’s a coffeeshop. As for the atmosphere, it’s a great way to end the day, enjoy good food, with natural breeze, watching the cars zoom by, just like the good old days.
not a big fan of getting yelled at 3 different people while trying to order because the counter was chaotic.
also not a fan of the hygiene within the establishment
Queue is expectedly long, limited sitting, prices are definitely affordable. As for the food however, it's isn't great, it's mediocre at best. But that's the thing about this place, the food is probably one of the better mediocre options there are; it doesn't turn heads but what it is, is a hearty meal, which tastes like home cooked delights.
It's definitely worth the visit at least once, just for the nostalgia.
Remember their business opening hours at 5pm! Many dishes for selection but Not so nice results adding curry chicken one of the deals because curry gravy is kind of plain. Well, some like light taste, some like heavy just like me.
Yet to try the porridge before. Ice jelly (dessert stall) is not the kind of jelly I like. Give it a try if you happened to be somewhere around after 5pm. Some may already be queuing awaiting business starts. Cheers :)
I have been going to this Hainanese shop since I was a young boy and I am still loving it!
From my father to me and now to my children, this is three generations' liking for the same dishes over the years, with the accompanying porridge menu and now the dessert menu by the younger generation.
It opens late and if you cannot find seats, just order take away and eat at home together or in front of the TV or even chat over the curry rice.
It is usually packed at night and on weekends.
This is a must try shop, at least once to try the curry rice dishes and another time to try the porridge, and do not go alone as you have to eat with someone to comment on the food. Do not ask for lots of chilli unless you are a chilli lover!
Meal for two with two meats and two vegs amounted to $9.60 with two rice. Second time eating here. Though reasonably priced, the selection of dishes are not much though. Turnover quite fast. Love the porridge stall beside. There’s a dessert stall as well.
The curry rice is really cheap and filling. The omelette and the chicken dish was fabulous. The omelette retained the original egg taste and the chicken in the stew literally melts in the mouth. Really good combo. A good place for dinner and definitely supper. Could eat the rice with just the curry. Request for more curry for eaters that love their rice drenched because they are stingy with the curry.
Takeaway packet was generous portions, enough for two people. Food is tasty, especially the fried chicken wing. The best item is the Chendol - got the right taste, the gula malaka is just right (not too sweet), and the green stuff is perfect - smooth and without the floury taste.
It is my first time queuing for the curry rice. I have to say i am kinda addicted to the curry sauce. I had the damp pork chop will like to try the dry pork chop one day. It is spoilt of choices for the ingredients. But their chicken wings are nice. MUST TRY!
Mix Hainanese curry rice
It’s abit pricy but overall ok
Had the pork porridge there. Price point is pretty average with 3.50 for a bowl and +50c for an egg. Flavour was good but not entirely amazing.
A small coffeeshop along the road.
Famous for their curry rice which always has a long queue.
Do not forget the other 2 stalls which sells Congee and Chendol.
Chendol is pretty good for desserts :)
Love the food. Been eating since young 30 years ago. Haha. Guess how old I am.
Nice and reasonable curry rice, with porridge and wonderful Desserts
Ate here since i was little and it is still the best curry rice i have till now and affordable. Love the pork chop and the egg that are like shredded seaweed.
good and cheap. staff very nice too.
My family's go-to Hainanese curry rice for decades - you simply can't go wrong with SCTHHCR if you crave a mega dose of tummy-warming, soul-fulfilling and tongue-pleasing childhood favourites.
Great Curry Rice. Atmosphere is also great. Five stars to the owners for keeping with tradition. Also don't forget the dessert. Yum yum
Hainanese Curry Rice with variety of dishes to choose from. This is popular among the residents of Hougang. Just opposite Ponggol Nasi Lemak which is also favourite among Singaporean.
Curry rice is average and feel its overrated however staff is friendly + reasonable price.
Note: Don't be shocked by the otah price.
My absolute go to place for old school curry rice. Mince pork patty is on the must order list. Hard to find parking lot.
Love the curry and the very spicy chilli 😋
Food was pretty decent but rather expensive as portions were small and many items like long bean cabbage are not that expensive ingredients
Amazing food. Can get alittle crowded.
It's not cheap but the food is good. My favourites including fried chicken wing and Penang style otah.
Good variety of dishes.. There are also pork porridge and desserts stall inside this coffeeshop.. Recommended..
Comfort food since I was young. Been eating here for 40 years.
My favourite. Classic dishes. Chilli is da bomb. Salted veg soup delicious too!!!!
Great Hainanese curry rice. There is also porridge and desert stall.
Great food at reasonable price. Awesome prawn paste chicken wings
Nice Hainanese Scissors Rice.
The store is on holiday until 25th July 2022
Very nice & good quality food but very expensive
Food is nice. Take note otah is expensive.
