Reviews of Standing Sushi Bar
Crystal Ting L, service staff, is great in making things easy and comfortable for us. We had great fun and food is solid.
There is always good food somewhere but it is the customer service and warmth that makes that distinction. Well done, Crystal!
delicious and fresh sashimi! their yama to umi kaisendons are a good alternative to catching a flight to tokyo for tsujihan. this mountain of chirashi was absolutely divine, and after the addition of yuzu dashi, it became a zesty soup of fish & rice, two meals in one!
Thanks to getfed promo, got to try the omakase here. First time here and it was really nice, very friendly and knowledgeable staffs. Quite reasonable for the omakase set but for the complement add on it’s quite a steep price and might not be really worth it to add on. However, very nice sushi, fresh and nice portion.
Frequent here on mondays and thursday for their salmon promo. Most value for money thick salmon sashimi.
First time trying their omakase menu and it was was great experience. Ordered their aburi set and every pc of sushi was delicious. The chef was professional and explained every ingredient.
Do note the omakase is in a separate room from the general sitting.
The salmon is incredibly fresh, with a buttery texture that melts in your mouth. Each slice is expertly prepared.
Had their rolls - salmon supreme and unagi roll which were alright.
Went for lunch n enjoyed it very much! Service by Crystal was superb! she recommended the food and explained clearly how it should be eaten. It was a nice experience! Thanks Crystal!
Mentai salmon skin, was not crunchy already. Suspect the items was left for sometime after frying..
Mentai pasta was nice, rich and creamy enough, with fresh prawns x2.
Sushi rolls so so...other brand much better..
With all the food and 700ml sake, this meal 300sgd.
Service was good. Hot tea always fill up.
really enjoyed this small dinner 💖 beers, salmon on promo by 5 pieces for $3.90, hot seafood soup in a teapot, finished off with cold soba. the quality is very mid, BUT I think altogether- it’s a worth it meal.
The rockstar roll and wagyu beef superstar is our top fav! A huge must try. Spicy salmon belly was really good too with nice fatty salmon (quite a generous amount). Tuna tataki however tasted a little mediocre, and not as fresh as expected.
Went on a tuesday so we had their 50% off for some of the nigiri sushi. Loved the yellowtail too!
Food is good quality. Sashimi very fresh and portions are generous.
However without reservations we could only have the bar seats. But having the food served to you was great!!
Recommend reservations for more than 2 pax as seats are very limited.
Remember to make a reservation in advance as they’re usually full. Went on Monday and got salmon sashimi at $3 for 5pcs. It was good! Really recommend their Rockstar Rolls as well! Didn’t really fancy their mentaiko salmon skin, though. Overall, good experience!
Went on a public holiday for lunch. Place was full with families and diners of all ages.
Nice variety of sushi rolls - we had Puff the Magic Dragon. :D Enjoyed the salmon don as well. Wish it could have been a little larger, though!
There was no queue when I went @ about 12+. Was quickly seated. Service staff was alright. Was expecting a lot from the food since I saw the hype over it. Unfortunately, it was far from great. Portion was very small and food was just alright…. Nothing impressive. Just a normal maki.
Hugo’s service was excellent during our omakase session. He took time to explain the dishes and chatted with us during the session without being overbearing.
Generally good sushi but highly priced. Mon and thur sashimi deals are more worth it
We came here on a Thursday for their sashimi deal only $3 for 5 pieces of salmon such a steal and quite delicious! The queue was long so try to beat the crowd by making a reservation.
Quality Casual dining. It offers daily specials. I came on a Thursday and the promotion is 5 pc of salmon sashimi for $3 ++ if you order a main at regular price
Good food with weekday special which today special are the salmon 5 slices for 3 dollars . Only had 1 hour to eat but as we order too much food they didn't chase us away . L
We went for the omakase dinner and it was amazing, Chef Richard made us felt very welcomed and the food was superb. Highly recommended !
Awesome value for money.
They have a promotion on Mondays and Thursdays for 5 pieces of salmon sashimi for $3.90.
The sashimi was extremely high quality, with a good mix of fatty salmon belly and lean salmon. You can request for either a fattier or leaner cut if they have enough.
We also ordered the rockstar roll which had aburi salmon, cheese and mentaiko sauce which was really good too.
Overall its really worth it to come here for the sashimi promo.
Great food and have further discount on some items on Sunday. Had a chirasi don and foie gras don, both were awesome. I also ordered a 300Ml Sake and had a pair of oysters for free. Will definitely come back.
Despite its name, diners here sit. Best to book as there tends to be a long queue. The sashimi slices are reasonably fresh, if served a little warmer than preferred. Friends reviewed that the chirashi bowl was disappointing for the price. I had the wagyu set though, and the beef was thinly-sliced and very well marinated.
had the salmon sashimi promo and added on a octopus roll. sashimi was thick and fresh. octopus roll tasted amazing too. will be back!
Had a wonderful dinner, the sashimi slices were all fresh and cooked dishes were delicious. Special thanks to Victor and his team for the great and attentive service. Will definitely be back again!
Salmon belly sashimi is the best...!! 茶泡饭 is good too. Squid ink pasta is so so.
The food was absolutely great, they were short staffed and forgot my order :-| , first I had to wait for half an hour in the que to get in , then another half an hour to realize they forgot my order...
But for when the food arrived it was amazing ! Hands down would have been a 5 starrer of not for the delay.
Their sushi promotion of $3 for 5 big fat juicy pieces of salmon sashimi is unbelievable!
Go there and ensure you keep reminding them of your order, they might forget ;-)
Price is only reasonable if you’re here for one of their weekday promos; $3 sashimi on mondays & Thursdays, 50% off Makis on Wednesdays and 50% off rice bowls on Fridays. Even then, the makis are long but thin with sparse ingredients, especially the avocado one - definitely can’t compare to *other* sushi places serving the same thing. But if you must eat here, the only roll worth getting is the “Puff the magic dragon” unagi roll. Unagi slices were tender and melty.
We were not a big fan of the yuzu & salmon.
Food was average, waiters cannot remember the simplest orders, kept not keying in multiple orders, cannot clarify menu, just cannot make it. Many other places significantly better.
Had dinner with my boyfriend here on Saturday evening. We were there early (at about 6pm), so the ambience was quite lovely and peaceful.
Ordered a sushi roll (Puff The Magic Dragon @ $18.90) and a sushi platter (Aburi Superstar Sampler @ $40) to share. Quality of the food was decent, although I felt that the price tag was a tad to high relative to the portion size served. (We headed to Switch for second rounds, coz while the food was enjoyable, it wasn't satiating enough for us :P)
Perhaps would revisit to try out their lunch time promos for a more VFM deal! :)
(Prices quoted above are before GST and service charge)
Had the ala carte bara chirashi don for lunch. I like to order the same stuff in different places so I can make a fair comparison. And this is significantly below all those I've been to of late (at a similar price point, to be fair). To begin with, the bowl is quite filled with non seafood items, and the sashimi themselves were too thinly cut and could be a tad more fresh. Maybe it's because I was amongst the first diners for lunch that day?
Deals not to be missed.
Ongoing Sashimi Deals, Amazing.
🍣
Go and wait in line for your experience...
Woo Hoo....
Very nice lunch with grandchildren. We liked the rockstar maki, unaqi and the softshell crab
Fresh salmon sashimi is what i am looking for. Great deal on Monday and Thursday
Kitchen staff busy chatting and took more than 25mins to prepare simple standard food with empty tables. If not for the service crew who gave me 15% discount, I would give 1 star. Management don't care or ??
Love the ambiance but it can get quite loud here. Do note that you would have to reserve before going. The food is very good at its price point. Will go again.
If you can endure the weekday night queue (which moves ever so slowly) you will be rewarded with affordable sushi rolls that hits the spot. Nothing too luxuriating, but just comfort in the form of rice drenched in mayo or mentaiko. The discounted umeshu drink felt like a scam because they give you extremely little beverage in a lot of ice, but remember what you were truly here for: the sushi or roll deal of the day!
Good value for money and tasty dishes. However, on one of my visits on a Tuesday (50% discount on sushi), the sushi rice was too dense and tightly packed - almost resembling the texture of chinese rice dumplings (ba zhang). We were sitting at the counter seats and noticed that the chef was using a lot of strength to pack and shape the rice. Would have preferred if the rice was handled differently.
Also, noticed that the chefs wore gloves but still touched dirty items (like rags) with the gloves, all while handling food. Not sure if that was a one-time occurrence but I hope it can be looked into and improved. I would still recommend this place and revisit as the food is tasty and affordable.
Their sashimi slices were pretty fresh, with a good fish to rice ratio. Was an enjoyable meal!
Had the omakase at SSB, the aburi set was really nice. We added on otoro and uni, and it was really good. Chef Hugo is super friendly and professional, brought many smile and laughter to our dinner! Will definitely come back again
Had a great dinner with my family at standing sushi bar's omakase. The chef super friendly and handsome.the food was delicious and the price was very reasonable
Went there yesterday during lunch after quite a long time and the menu had became quite extensive! We were spoilt for choices it ultimately the dishes we ordered were so yummy!!!
Been here many times for their weekday promotions. Mondays & Thursdays Salmon sashimi at $3.90/5pcs. Extremely worth! Try to get there before 6:30pm or you'll probably have to queue for a long time. Only seats customers when all are present.
Can say the best place to get good quality salmon sashimi, price is reasonable. Had been repeatedly visit this restaurant.
Decent food, not incredible but slightly better than average. Great prices with deals depending on days
It's not uncommon to see large plates of sashimi being ordered on Mondays and Thursdays when they're having their promos! Reservations are highly recommended as the restaurant is not big so it tends to get crowded easily.
A bit pricey but amazing sushi and the waitresses were polite
Highly recommend going at odd hours because the queues are long. Good and brisk service. The sake and umeshu are good. The mentaiko chawanmushi, aburi sushi and the cheese mentaiko sushi in the photos are awesome
Great deal for sashimi on specific days. may have to queue and wait.
Still one of our fav, managed to grab some sushi rolls promo on a Wednesday evening.
Best value and quality salmon sashimi.
Amazing high quality Japanese food. The fish is fresh and tasty.
Awesome meal. The Omakase chef is very friendly. Fish was very fresh.
Enjoyed our dinner! 👍🏼
The salmon sashimi was thick and delicious 😋 🍣
Thursdays are the best! 5slices salmon sashimi for $3! Long queue for it, make sure everyone has reached to get a table.
Dope sushi offer on monday and thursday. Aware of 7% and 10% :) cheers!! Yummy salmon all the way!
I eat here with my hubby very often, around 8 times this year and will come back again this Thursday for sashimi. Sometimes there is a queue outside because of the sashimi promo but it is mostly a short wait (at most 10-15min). But once you're inside that's when all the goodness happens. The sashimi is literally one of the best I've had in my life, and the service is attentive despite the busyness around me.
Happened to be near the area at bras basah, so decided to try with my wife. It was sunday lunchtime but was not crowded at all. They have variety of sushi rolls, all of which are freshly prepared, not so commonly found but taste great. For the more adventurous ones, must try their Odeon exclusive Shake Chizake. We were initially apprehensive with the mixture of ingredients stated in the menu but were quickly blown away by the quality and taste. Their salmon mentai udon comes with pretty big slices of salmon and chewy udon. Will definitely come again.
Our all time favorite place for sashimi, love that their sashimi cut is thick and fresh
They have very good deals that change daily, but i love their 1 for 1 sushi rolls!
Made a reservation and they kept it even though we were ~15 mins late!
Love the vibe of the place and the food is yummy as usual - highly recommend the chirashi bowl.
For 2pax, we spent ~$100 in total, including 2 drinks, 2 starters, 2 mains and sushi roll / sashimi.
Service and food there are really superbbb…
Especially service from Crystal 👍
Love their sashimi and ribeye steak, had my lunch there on my birthday and the meal was splendid. Recommended to try their salmon sashimi, sashimi bowl and their beef steak.
Their week day salmon sashimi promotions are unparalleled. Fresh sashimi. It is unbelievable. Great service. Pretty long queue, but it is worth the wait.
Food is good. Especially the chirashi donburi. Rich in ingredients and humble in price. Only 12.95 dollars on Friday. 1 point less for the service. If the waitress can pour water same speed like collecting the plates (lightening speed not exaggerated) it would be perfect.
Mondays are generally crowded due to the cheap sashimi. As the name says - standing sushi bar - they try to clear you up once you're done eating, so definitely not a place you can and should sit to catch up over a long period of time. Good quality Japanese food nonetheless!
My first visit to this restaurant. I was told that at non-covid times this restaurant was always full with students. I thought the sushi and sashimi were both very good. We ordered a spicy cut-roll and it was the weakest dish. The rice bowl was much like others.
Never coming back again. Slow service during lunch.
Ordered unagi set, the sashimi didn't come at all! Realized this after we left.
Update: Owner reached out and made it right. Nicely done in taking care of customers. Will try again if nearby!
The menu offered a good variety and the service was definitely efficient- haha I don't think I've had my green tea refilled with such frequency before. That said, it can get pricy and the menu could certainly do with some pictures- it was quite a thick read.
Great selection of food and as usual, great quality of sashimi based on its price. Will definitely come back for affordable priced sashimi!
The quality is pretty good, their maki is unique are generally great. Check their Facebook page for the daily promotions. Expect a queue.
Excellent sushi, the quality was noticeable, for Singapore it is well priced if you take advantage of the menus and the daily offer
