Reviews of Sumo Bar Happy
This place has changed a lot since I lived in this area in 2023. Before was take out or counter only I think but many tables now. Stopped by for first time.
I didn't like some ingredients in my order and felt bad complaining but they took it back and said don't worry, we'll make you a new one, which they did happily. Super friendly.
Plus they let me try a new dish they are working on for a menu update. Mala poke. It's really good but super spicy.
Great beer and food prices, great service and GST and service included!
Affordable Japanese food from $9.90 only?! ๐ฅน
Just a stoneโs throwaway from Tanjong Pagar MRT, this modern Japanese restaurant and bar offers value-for-money pasta & donburi at nett prices๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ต

Overall, Sumo Bar Happy is a cozy alfresco dining area and standing bar. Portions at the pet-friendly eatery are smaller than expected but still a good value โจ

Nestled in the heart of Tanjong Pagar's 100AM mall, Sumo Bar Happy is a delightful addition to Singapore's dining scene. This modern Japanese eatery is not just about satisfying your hungerโit's about serving up a hearty dose of happiness alongside delectable dishes. From Japanese pasta to soul-warming donburi and salmon bowls, Sumo Bar Happy promises a dining experience that'll leave you grinning from ear to ear.
With prices inclusive of GST, Sumo Bar Happy is not just a culinary haven but also a budget-friendly option for those seeking quality Japanese fare without breaking the bank.
Let's talk about the stars of the showโthe dishes! Picture this: succulent seared salmon sashimi atop a bed of creamy mentaiko pasta, drizzled with tobiko for that extra pop of flavor. It's none other than the Salmon Mentaiko Pasta, a true crowd-pleaser bursting with umami goodness.
For those craving a seafood symphony, look no further than the Scallop and Salmon Pasta. Tender scallop and salmon sashimi meet in perfect harmony with wafu dressing and furikake, creating a medley of flavours that'll transport you straight to the bustling streets of Tokyo.
My favourite was the Unagi Pasta, with luscious freshwater eel alongside tobiko, creating a dish that's as indulgent as it is comforting.
For the health-conscious diner, the Omega Samurai Salmon Bowl is a must-try. Packed with omega-rich salmon, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, and edamame, this bowl is a nutritional powerhouse that doesn't skimp on taste.
And let's not forget about the izakaya bar snacks! From classic Salmon Sashimi to the fiery Spicy Tori Karaage, there's something for every palate to enjoy.
Whether you're dining in the al fresco area or cozying up at the standing bar, Sumo Bar Happy is where good food meets great vibes. So why wait? Roll on over and let the good times roll at Sumo Bar Happy!
The bara chirashi is a very tiny portion (not surprising given the price) but unlike some of the reviews here, it wasn't the freshest. The top-up salmon miso soup was indeed good, the mentaiko maki ordinary. All in, it was ok for a quick affordable lunch but don't get your hopes up.
Small and cosy location, not recommended to bring big bags. Service is not the best but its a small place with limited staff so forgiveable. Free sashimi slices is awesome and fresh. Food wise, love the loco moco don but char siew ramen and char siew unagi don leaves much to desire. Green tea is good, using green tea powder instead of the usual sachets. I'd say, come during your birthday to enjoy the sashimi and it's worth the visit.
Actually loved the dish I ordered here, but it was just missing the mark on the tempura! Located under an old estate, the cosy counter serve bar is definitely a place to revisit. The chilled yuzu ramen really exceeds expectations with a refreshing and yet umami-filled savouriness. Sadly the tempura that accompanies it is so bad! The vegetables are barely cooked, sweet potato was crunchy(!) And the prawn which was steamed perfectly was so salty
Maybe next time a different dish will be better
If not for the birthday free sashimi promo, totally not worth coming here. Sumo ramen was decent but all dishes are overpriced. Beef katsu was a Huge letdown, with the beef super tough and the breading falling off.
A fantastic Sumo Bar Happy experience! Sumo Ramen and Char Siew Ramen were legit. What makes the ramen perfect was its umami tonkotsu broth. Besides that, their char siew slices were thick, juicy and nicely braised. The bar is well hidden in the Bras Basah/Bugis area, and it is like a secret place you wish you would have known earlier!
hard to find... but it's a hidden gem.. didn't know of its existence until friends suggested lunching here. they serve an interesting mix of ramen, tried the yuzu mala cold noodles, its refreshing and unique. recommended to try. seats are limited as it is a small shop.
Went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was empty, restaurant is small w limited seats. Would prefer they close the big windows as the place felt a little warm as the aircon was escaping outside.. The food was good, sashimi was fresh & you can choose your preferred soup base for the ramen. Only downside was the portion of the food was rather small, esp the sashimi cold ramen. Will definitely come back again to try the other food items!
Great little find! Hits the spot. Had the recommended sumo ramen which comes with Everything including char Siew and oxtail. Tons of meat, all of which is melt in your mouth and delicious. Accompanied it with sashimi and heirloom tomato starters which were superb. Tomatoes had great seasoning and salt, and sashimi was at the perfect temperature, very fresh. Sashimi left me wanting more, but it was plenty of food for two pax. Would like to learn more about the sake next time, but was preoccupied with food and conversation. Next time! Spent s$130 for two pax with four beers. Definitely recommend this for lunch and dinner if you are in the neighbourhood. Fun place with good quality food. It's a small place so might be dicey if you are a larger group without a booking
Food was qood value as the chunks of Tuna and Salmon were quite big. Only drawback was, it was outdoor seating only, no air-conditioning.
Sumo ramen was pretty awesome. The egg and meat was good. Pretty large quantity. Egg was free flow. The noodles can be abit tangier. Soup broth was tasty but the quantity could have been more. Overall quite tasty and value for money. Service was good as the lady waitress was communicating all the time. Would recommend to try.
Great food and even better service!
Loved their unagi tamago rice bowl and the omega samurai bowl. The portion sizes are epic and so is the taste!
Would also like to commend Alex and Lek on their warm and hospitable service.
Relished every bite of my ramen. From the generous amount of ingredients to the al dente ramen, what's there not to love.
The food here is delicious and creative Japanese. Book to avoid disappointment.
food is normal ramen and bento wise, however the birthday treat is EXCELLENT, and great service from the crew at work! you can feel their enthusiasm and their determination to make customers happy. kudos!
A hole in the wall Japanese inspired bar serving Japanese staples with a modern twist. what everyone has been talking about is the Sumo Ramen, a huge bowl of Ramen, with 4 different broth choices and 4 different meat. slow-roasted oxtail, braised beef tendon, US beef slices and boneless short rib in a huge bowl of broth.
i chose the loco moco Donburi, a simple bowl of rice topped with home made luncheon meat (cuz who can resist luncheon meat), fried egg and Foie Gras. the don was a good mix of saltiness with the richness of the fatty liver. dont be fooled by the small bowl, the portion size was spot on!
the Charsiew Taiyaki, was good, almost like Kong Bak Pao but wrapped with a waffle instead of buns.
I would most definitely be back here again!
The food at this place is incredible - they make *everything* in house and the quality and attention to detail shows. The sashimi was so incredibly fresh and light. Highly highly recommend - a gem
Delicious all in one Sumo Ramen bowl.
Nice! Beef Ramen was very flavourful and the sides were interesting... would have preferred it if the soup base was less oily, but guess it's unavoidable with the amount of beef given
Interesting restaurant with creative Japanese food.
I used to know what the "Happy" stands for, but ever since they revamped their menu I'm now less happy :(
If its any consolation, at least there is the free birthday sashimi now!
Nice, cozy location. Quality of food is excellent as well. Large selection of Japanese beers.
Love the noodles omg. Will eat this for lunch everyday if I can.
Make sure youโre hungry before coming here. Good beer and cocktail selections too
Always appreciate this place!
Good ramen and innovative concept. A bit pricey
The staffs were really helpful and did their best to facilitate the needs of the customers
Love their tea cup dishes.
Awesome crew and ramen to die for!
Nice visit
It was a rainy day today and I came with 2 other friends. We had late lunch and had to run under the rain and thus were feeling chilly. Owners gave us each complimentary soup which was really heartening to receive. Food was really delicious too and superb service!
