Reviews of Takeshi-San
I really appreciated the live music, it made the dinner much more enjoyable. The food was ok - I thought it was izakaya food but the $5-$8 selections were more like snacks or side dishes.
The scallops did not taste amazingly fresh but it was still nice. The shitake probably would’ve been nicer if it was more grilled. The sugar on the chirashi don was interesting, although I prefer without. The tako was very salty although I ate the whole thing, i think it could’ve been less salty.
Food was so-so nothing spectacular. Sashimi was expensive but doesn’t seem as fresh. Ordered chicken yakimono platter , salmon belly and tuna sashimi, teriyaki whole squid, crazy-vocado salmon rolls Yuzu beer was good but pricy for a half pint.
There was live singing which was alright but as it was indoors, was real loud.
Rather disappointing meal here, goes to show that hype is mostly unreliable.
We had the Chinmi set ($25++), Butani no Nikomi Braised Pork Belly with Onsen Egg ($6++), Salmon Belly Sashimi 3pcs ($10++), Fresh Oysters 3pcs ($15++), Ikura Chawanmushi ($8++), Aburi Salmon Mentai 2pcs ($8++), Wagyu Truffle Inaniwa Udon ($28++), Frozen Kirin Yuzu Beer ($11++), Umeshu Highball ($12++).
Onsen eggs were overcooked such that the yolk has totally solidified instead of any bit of runny yolk. Wagyu beef tasted ok but was overcooked so some slices were a bit tough. However, what killed the dish was the overpowering black pepper flavour, so much that it’s all I tasted instead of truffle or anything else. Also don’t appreciate that I would bite into black pepper with every chew. Not even kidding, every bite.
Chawanmushi hardly had any flavour. It’s a stark difference from the chawanmushi down the street at Umi Nami. Sadly, the oysters looked limp and were more chewy than bursting with freshness (again, sad as compared to Umi Nami’s super big, plump and yummy oysters).
The only redeeming dish was the thick cut salmon belly which was fresh and well scored, the frozen Kirin beer and umeshu highball.
Total bill was $154 after service charge and GST for 2 person. Really quite disappointing experience overall. I’d only be back for the frozen Kirin beer tbh. We regretted and wished we were at Umi Nami or Teppei instead. 🥲
Came to Holland V looking for a place to grab a couple of drinks and stumbled across this Japanese bar. We started with some Yuzu Frozen Beers and got the 1-for-1 sushi rolls with Burpple. The Yuzu beers were really yummy and the rolls were unique and great! Afterwards we got a honey umeshu cocktail as well. Sadly they close slightly earlier on Sunday at 10pm, or we would have stayed longer and ordered more. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Super duper place, will definitely be back
Service was great! Sashimi was thick and fresh. They have a wide selection of sake. For those who do not know sake very well, just go with the house sake which is already very smooth and good. They even showed us 8-9 different sake cups to choose from for us to enjoy our sake. Maybe it is psychological, but the sake tasted great when we got to choose our own cups. Their plating are instagram-worthy and you will definitely want to take a photo of your food before you dig in. Cosy, quiet little place that is great for catching up with friends as you do not need to talk at the top of your voice to be heard. Overall wonderful experience and I will definitely be back.
Visited on a Friday night about 7pm, managed to get an indoor seat for 2 on the small upper loft area, without reservations. There were also 3 empty tables in the outdoor area.
Happy hour was till 8pm, Kirin pint was cold and refreshing 👍
Ordered the food via QR code at the table and they came out within 5mins! Super fast! Always worry I’ll end up finishing my beer before my beer food arrives but timing was good yay. Kawa Ebi (tiny fried crispy shrimp) $12 was pretty fun to eat and went great with beer.
Hotate (scallop) $9 was huge! Double the size of the sushi rice beneath.
We ordered 2 other pairs of ala carte sushi nigiri (aburi salmon belly mentai $8 & ikura gunkan $12) so they all came out on the wooden step ladder thingy. Thought the 🪜 were only for the sets but not complaining, the presentation was nice 👍
Takashi-san had a live performer on a guitar come on about 7:30, who alternated between Chinese and English songs. Added to the nice vibe overall. Enjoyed the food and service, will return to this izakaya !
Very decent sushi at a good price. The seafood was fresh the the sushi was handled tight enough they do not fall off when picked up. We came back for lunch and the sets are great value. Highly recommended the premium chirashi don with very delicious thick-cut sashimi :)
Update: On my 3rd time I ordered the prawn pasta and it was also very good. The sauce is rich and umami. You can request for firmer noodles if you prefer it al-dente.
Mediocre sushi. The incredible hulk maki roll fared better with a good balance of flavour but missing the crunch of the ebi in the middle. Textural contrast would have elevated the dish. Salmon miso soup was good but sad portion for $8. Kirin draft was great value for happy hour.
Service was efficient and friendly
I agree with all the reviews that their sushi set is not worth to pay to eat as the quality of sashimi is not the freshest. I would recommend their tasty prawn pasta instead. Overall service was sincere and nice ambience but they can up the quality of their food to match their pricing. $26 for supermarket quality of sushi is absolutely pricey.
Spectacular restaurant. Everything on the menu is of quality and well executed. The fish cuts, especially, are fresh and generously priced. Service quality and attentiveness are also top notch. The best option in Holland Village for high quality, affordable Japanese food.
Sushi on stairs be all the rave on IG.
The question is 'does it taste as good as it looks?'
The short answer is yes.
Available for #BurrpleBeyond 1 for 1 but with certain restrictions, the sushi stairs set was min. order of the $26 set.
✨ Sushi Stairs (~$22/$26): Fresh, thick cuts of fish with sticky sushi rice. Delicious.
✨ Wagyu Beef Garlic Fried Rice (~$28): Lightly marinated beef that allows it's natural flavour to shine through - juicy and lovely chewy texture. Garlic fried rice has strong wok hey with garlicky fragrance and the mild sweetness of egg. So yummy!
✨ Salmon Avocado Roll 🥑 (~$18): Fresh, smooth avocado with thick salmon cuts. Added Rice Krispies gave a pop to the overall texture of the dish.
✨ Unagi Don (~$22): it was decent but the rice was soggy from the sauce.
With Burpple Beyond 1 for 1, it is definitely worth a visit!
Generous and fresh servings, enjoyed the donburi (Takeshi Chirashi Don and Premium Chirashi Don) and the sushi rolls (Incredible Hulk and Salmon Mentai). Attentive and good service too.
Enjoyed the lunch set too, got the aburi mentai set with chawanmushi and the unagi don set with gyoza. Overall, this is a great place if you like Japanese seafood!
Newly opened Japanese restaurant in the Holland v area. We liked the presentation of the sushi served on a mini step ladder. The christmas decor in the restaurant was very nice and the foggy glass windows made it seem like we’re overseas in winter. The food was good, and happy hour prices for beer are decent too. Weekday set lunch range from $23-$37. It comes with miso soup and chawanmushi / gyoza depending on the set ordered.
Amazing service! was a crowded thurs night but had wonderful food with live band 👍🏻 We had the Yakimono platter, Soft Shell Crab Tempura, desert Cheesecake Tempura on Blueberry Jelly & Lava Cake - awesome with Kirin 👏🏻
The weekday lunch sets were really worth it! Yakitori was really tender and well-marinated. The Chirashi was fresh and affordable as well. We also ordered two sushi rolls using Burpple ($20++), along with a $5++ yuzu tea. The sushi wasn't as great, so it'd probably have been more worth to skip that and order a drink/side dish instead! The deep fried sushi was quite nice, it was not too oily and the sweet sauce complemented the sushi. The mala sushi had a bit too much dressing and was pretty average in taste. The yuzu tea was sweet and refreshing. In terms of service, the staff were professional and friendly. The deco was quite nice too and this place would be a good spot for gatherings.
Beautiful Atmosphere. Fabulous service🥰
Special shoutOUT to Jerami for being extra helpful!
Takeshi-san
Izakaya type eatery in Holland Village with a varied menu and very friendly service. We liked the Garlic Fried Rice with Wagyu Beef Cubes
The Damage (no drinks): S$70-100 for two
~~TRY😍:
// Garlic Fried Rice with Wagyu Cubes
// Gyoza
// Ikura Chawanmushi
~~OKAY🙂:
// Fireball Roll
All about the rolls and sushi at Takeshi-San!
Known for the Sushi Kaidan Sets (from $22) aka Stairways to Sushi, which is visually appealing and taste equally pleasant. Comes in eight types such as Luxury Kaidan Nigiri Set (Otoro, Salmon Belly, Hotate) and Imperial Kaidan Set (Hotate Nigiri, Aburi Beef, Aburi Foie Gras).
Spicy food lovers don’t miss their Volcano Roll ($20), made of shrimp tempura and topped with spicy scallop crabmeat. It might look unassuming and harmless but it certainly packed quite a punch.
P.S: grab a cup of clean finishing sake while admiring the origami flower ceiling. Wabi sabi~
First of all, big respect to the servers for being so respectful and kind! Amazing servers and amazing food!
It's a small but still a lovely place, you should definitely try their salmon belly, everything I have ordered tasted great.
Amazing sushi and definitely affordable🤍.
Very good service by the staff who were attentive and friendly. The sashimi were very fresh too! Will def be back with friends 🙂 the sake cups were super cute too!
Premium Charishi Don
Now I have my own bowl of Charishi Don. Ohhh yess! The sashimi is fresh, no fishness, texture, colour is all there. The tamago is sweet and a pleasant additional to the dish. The swordfish is the best in the platter of sashimi. Sweetness and texture is simply awesome. What I didn't quite like was the tako. I think the cut is too big. Although it is bit in size, but too chunky as shown in the picture. So it is really chewy. The only thing that is chewy and takes a long time break it down.
Aburi Salmon Foie Gras Charishi Don
I appreciate the salmon skin to be crispy as it should be and the fishy taste is not overwhelming. The aburi salmon is well done where the fish oil is still present that result in the fish being moist and with texture in mouth. You can refer to one of the photos. The foie gras texture was a ted bit rough for me. Not a major concern but something that was picked up. The bowl was mixed with picked vege, ginger and wasabi. The rice was sauced sufficiently to make it more palatable and tasty at the same time. Not too salty and it made it a welcome addition. How about the roes? Enjoy every single bite of it.
The other item in the photo was Premium Charishi don. As my wife wasn't going to share her bright and fresh looking premium Charishi don, I am unable to write a review for it. But we'll be going back again. Then, I can give you a review of it.
Wasabi
The wasabi looks handmade though I did not confirm that. I noticed finger print on it so definitely hand moulded. They are quite generous with that as well. It has a kick to it so avoid if you dont take it. Must try, if you accept it.
Service
It was great the minute we stepped in. Despite the fact that we did not order any drinks (it was during happy hour) we were still offered cold or warm water without being prompted.
Location
It is located close to the end of the road. I think there are minor steps that is wheelchair accessible. However, the toilet is located on the second floor which will be a challenge. The interior design of the place hv a cozy modern Japanese vibe that we are digging it.
Went during lunch time. The food is pretty good, love the wagyu truffle udon. The ika is well done too! It’s slightly pricey but still acceptable. Will visit again!
A definitely choice for the Frozen beer there. We had 3 beers, Sakura Lychee and Yuzu. It was very very good! Unfortunately, the experience ended not so good. Do not go there if you wish to pay by cash!
When the bill came, we had the cash ready to pay, the waiter said 'we do not accept cash, only card.' So we used our card to pay, at the same time mentioning that if they only accepted card, this should be mentioned when we sat down before we ordered. To which, the same waiter said 'we accept cash, however we do not have change.' I couldn't speak another word to the waiter as his replies were inconsistent and surprising. So, we could have paid cash (or not!)? The drinks were great but service needs to be improve?
The kaidan sushi set isn't too bad but overpriced.
6 pieces of sushi + miso+ green tea + chawamushi cost around $31.50. One minor episode, we were served with super sour miso soup. The tofu smelled bad too. They changed the soup for us and gave us a free dessert. Thus certainly leave quite a bad impression.
We heard a lot about their Kaidan Sushi and with Burpple Beyond's 1-for-1, we got to enjoy 2 Kaidan sets for the price of 1! We ordered:
Takeshi Kaidan Set (left, $26): Chutoro, hotate, salmon belly ponzu jelly, mekajiki, uni gunkan, unagi foie gras
Foie Gras Kaidan Set (right, $38): Aburi salmon belly, aburi ebi, aburi beef, tank tamago, aburi hotate, aburi foie gras
We love how they stepped it up with the presentation - each piece of nigiri sushi is intricately placed on a flight of wooden stairs. You can taste the freshness and quality of the sushi with every mouthful!
Our favourites were the Hotate and Uni Gunkan. The scallop rested upon the hand-pressed ball of rice is HUGE! Its smooth and creamy texture combined with the natural sweetness is just simply irresistible. Also pleasantly surprised by the richness & sweetness of the sea urchin - it brings back memories of us at the Hakodate Morning Market! 🍣😍
Found this nice resturant from Fave's promotion. The seafood is fresh and wayu beef tasted nice. Other than being a little pricey (before any discount offered), I think this is a good place for great food. After the cashback ecard discount offered by fave, its very affordable.
There are other promotions offered by the restaurant for delivery and take away too. Scan the QR code in the photo attached for more information.
Finger food is delicious. Got a good table, great frozen beer. Staff were attentive. 2 thumbs up!
The staff were friendly and the food was good! Their seafood are really fresh, and I really enjoyed the steak with creamy udon.
Overall, an unique experience with the “staircase” sushi. Item was fresh and was displayed in an elegant manner.
However, the food was considered quite expensive which might be due to its location and the costing of the ingredients. That being said, the pricing of the food are still not justifiable as there are other stores in the vicinity which are more “bank for buck”.
Ordered the wagyu & yakitori platter & 2 types of salmon belly sushi and its good and value for money 👍
Definitely will be back to try other items on the menu. 😁
Price is steeper than most Japanese casual eateries you can find in Singapore, but it’s a nice addition to the Holland V food scene.
We ordered the kaiden set using Burpple 1for1. The set up is pretty and both Takeshi kaiden and Salmon Set didn’t disappoint. Some sushi pieces were a tad small.
The Wagyu Yakiniku Don was wonderful. I always love a good Japanese rice bowl especially with well-seasoned, soft and tender wagyu beef slices and most importantly a nice flowy egg. Would recommend this!

New restaurant with great food! Located opposite Wala Wala! MUST try Volcano Roll & Fireball roll. And I LOVE their Uni Chawanmushi! Can’t wait to go back to try more of their signature dishes!
A really popular Japanese restaurant! Do book reservation online. Tried their chirashi donburi, the sashimi is really fresh. Aburi sushi are delicious as well. Service is impeccable as they kept filling the green tea promptly. Price is on the high side.
Delicious tender slices of beef with sticky, firm Japanese rice and a beautifully poached egg! My meal is made even better with good customer service. 👍👍 I heard they very very good deals during this no-dine in period so let’s support them
Excellent food, drinks and service. Fantastic live music on a Saturday. Kudos to the team for being very attentive and making us feel very comfortable.
Nice bar food and ice cold beer. Tried the frozen beer, it was good but 1 glass is enough for me. Too sweet ! Will try the original beer next time! Haha
Food was good and display was appetising.
came here for late dinner. the service and the food were ok. the rice used in the sushi seemed different (not using vinegar?).
Great place for drinks and live music. Our server Zhong Qing was very friendly. Would recommend to come for casual food and drinks.
Fresh and thickly cut sashimi atop chirashi don at Takeshi-San. The scallop on the sushi is remarkably big. The dining experience is made even more pleasant by the accommodating service of Vincent.
Best hotate sushi, best ika sushi. But the sparkling yuzu is about over price.(SGD for a small glass)
Went there as there is a ladyironchef promo for their sashimi seafood platter. The seafood sashimi were all decent but not fantastic. The fried sushi was interesting tho
Great place to have good quality sashimi. Love the chirashi bowls, especially the foie gras sashimi chirashi bowl. Great service from the staff too.
The overall experience was great!
The quality of ingredients used in each dish is excellent!
Great value for money place!
Very good wagyu don and fried chicken wings. Good value for money, must try! Too hungry, only managed to take photo of the dessert. Fried cheesecake, something special.
Simple and clean. Beer on the tap. Reasonable sake price. Wide selection of sushi and maki. Their chicken wing is good. Must try
Udon was really nice, better than the thick type. Worth the $40.
friendly and efficient staff. we came for late night bites so it was awesome that kitchen closes at 1030pm (we went on a weekday night).
food was delicious- had the salmon aburi bowl and prawn mentaiko pasta. the grilled prawns on the pasta was surprisingly tasty and complimented well with the mentaiko pasta which was in itself tasty.
would have to come back again to try the rest of the menu as we arrived just in time for last orders.
Sides and sushi tasted so good, ingredients were fresh! Nice service from the restaurant manager and service staff, me and my friends had a great time for happy hour drinks and dinner, will be back again 💯
One of the best places in Holland Village! I think the best Japanese food in Holland Village. There are lots of $5 Izakaya bites that go so well with Beer and Highballs. They also have a good selection of Sake. Jon and his team are very attentive and kind. The live music is nice addition too. Sit outside on days that are not too hot. You will love it.
Went there with a family friend, owner was super accommodating even at peak hours, very friendly. All recommended dishes were great! Recommended sake also very smooth, on point. Price is reasonable for the generous portions. Will definitely come again, hungry for more.
Great service from the service staff! Sashimi was quite fresh and garlic fried rice w beef is really yummy!
Craving for sushi so I was looking for something better than Sushi Tei/Sushiro/Genki. Found this from Google. Visited around 5. Ordered miso soup, salmon mentai sushi, and special salmon roll, thinking that if they were good, i would order more. The soup and nigiri came out after 10 min, but the salmon roll took half an hour, only after I questioned, if not perhaps much longer. At the time, there were only 20% capacity and they took that long. Taste wise, so so. The soup was quite bland, couldnt taste the miso, thin, and not flavorful. The sushi is below par either.
Amazing ambience with live music and he was exemplary. The food was delicious and to top it off the staff were approachable and thoughtful! Definently will visit here again soon!
The food was top notch. The frozen beer is what everyone needs on a hot day. Great service staff. It was our first time here and it certainly won't be our last!
The food is good and their staffs here are super helpful and friendly!
My regular go-to place for meet-up lunches. Food consistently fresh. Got Kirin draft. John's attentiveness to customer's needs adds a personal touch. Will continue to be a regular patron
Big fish slices overflowing the rice below, just the type of sushi I like. Sushi is good. Try also their pasta. Garlic fried rice and saikoro steak are done right, which is pretty rare is sg. The only reason they haven't gotten all 5 stars is because there was once the pasta was off in taste, which shows they still have consistency to achieve in the kitchen.
Decent food, the Tank Tamago and Hotate Sushi was definitely good, scallops was really fresh and could feel the sweetness of it. However, the service, was extremely disappointing, upon entering the restaurant, no menu was provided, when asked for a menu, an answer was provided "Not enough menu" we had to wait for almost 10minutes before a menu was presented to us. We wanted to use our "Chope voucher" and was told not to use the online website to submit orders, so we waited for the server to ready whatever she needs, and we finally waited for her to come back to us to order all the food including usage of "chope voucher" we were told that only chope order to go through the server, while the rest of the order has to go through the online website... Didn't understand why couldn't the restaurant just take all our order..
The ambiance is superb, I highly recommend this restaurant, the food was amazing and the service by Sushi Jon and his team were fantastic! Will be back with family or friends again!
I came with a colleague on 3 March 2021 during lunch time and I was really impressed with the service that the crews presented to us. In particular, I would like to mention Vincent and his Team for being meticulous with the orders and ensuring the food are all served correctly. I love the Premium Chirashi and the sushis that was being served on their wooden special stairways. The staffs would also walk around all the tables to ensure the hot drinks are refilled. In addition, while I was eating, my mask dropped unknowingly. Vincent immediately noticed and asked if I would like to have a mask replacement. This is truly an absolute example of superb customer service. It is the little things that they do which I've observed throughout my dining duration that earned them today's compliments. The team at Takeshi-San has truly gone the extra mile. Continue to keep up the good work and go the extra mile because it is always less crowded. I will definitely be back for another visit! Thumbs up! 👍🏻 My rating will be 9/10!
Lunch at Takeshi-San on Sunday was great. We ordered Chirashi Don, which came in thick slices. The sashimis were fresh too. Not to mention, the service was excellent. Will definitely go back again.
Portions are huge but the quality of the rice can be much better.
We would like to thank Vincent and his team for their great hospitality today! We enjoyed the lunch and the quality of food is fantastic! We had the Chirashi don and the sushi! Salmon is very fresh!!
This place has got pretty good sushi here. If you have got Burpple, there are some great deals to be had here, like 1 for 1 sushi sets. I had the Aburi Mentai Set ($26), which consisted of 6 pieces of mentai sushi, chawanmushi, miso soup and green tea. There was salmon, scallop, tank tamago, crabstick, prawn, and hamachi. The tank tamago one was a bit strange for me, because the rest were all seafood, and this was the outlier. It was a little sweet. I did enjoy the other sushi pieces though.
You have to scan a QR code and order through your phone. There is also a second floor which seems to be a little cosier than the first floor.
Been here multiple times, always excellent sushi, excellent service great drink options and one of the best bang for buck places in Singapore
Here from the deal we got, that made it more affordable. Fresh sashimi that we like. Limited seats so best to make reservations.
Amazing ambience, excellent service, great place for drinks and food. The price is a super great deal
Fresh sashimi cut in thick slices. Creative presentation. Fantastic udon and wagu pasta is amazing and unique!
I don’t eat sushi, I did here. Really delicious plus friendly group serving. Coming back soon
Food was great. Special mention to service by Zhong Qing. Will visit again!
The sashimi pieces on the chirashi don are huge and the price is very reasonable for the variety sold
great experience!
Great service!
