Reviews of The Famous Kitchen
The food is pretty good but price at slight higher side. Environment wise it's quiet and not at non busy district hence it's good for long good chat with friends after dinner
Chicken on fire show.
Chicken was tender. Love the Hokkien mee. Squid was solid. Cod fish was amazing.
Chilli crab was meh, tasted too tomato-y.
I came to know this place because it was my friend's wedding dinner venue. All I can say is that the food are beyond expectation. Everything is good! The place is cozy too. And above all, the staff are friendly and helpful. I will come back soon!
Some hit and misses. Sweet and sour pork was just very mediocre, the volcano chicken although presentation was interesting but for $88 it is really overpriced for a kampong chicken. Chili crab is fresh but then again the price point at $130 for 1kg is really expensive, even jumbo and Melben do not charge this price! But service staffs are very attentive, they change the plates for us regularly and are quick at responding to adhoc requests. If you ask me will I come back again? Probably when I get my bonus or when I strike 4d!
Nice Chinese seafood restaurant with good and prompt service. Offers Al fresco dining as well. Tried the crispy pork and roast duck and they were above expectations. Otherwise other dishes like chili crab were good but not great.
A Chinese restaurant located in a rather quiet and unusual part of Sembawang Road. Business was good though even on a Thursday night. Interesting dishes like preserved vegetables steamed fish, lobster Beehoon, and onion salad stood out from the rest.
My only gripe is the limited parking lots - I had to do valet parking.
My first time dining in here and it was superb! It’s has the local Chinese restaurant vibe, place was immaculate and their staff were friendly and efficient. The menu had many varieties, like the geoduck sashimi which I thought was pretty cool! The food was fragrant and tasty, I really enjoyed the garlic pork and the duck! their de-shelled cereal prawn and dark sauce hokkien mee was good too. For dessert, we had mango pudding and I must say it exceeded my expectations. I’ll definitely come back here again and recommend to friends.
Quite disappointing.. the food which i ordered here taste sadly poor compared to their sister restaurant at Capitol Piazza’s Famous Treasure. KL noodles is too sweet and no wok hei fragrant. Flower crab is having promotion, buy 1 get 1, is a joke. when serve on our table i really got shock of my life. Why? Is just so small small small. The crab size is like abt 1/3 size of wat i had at capitol. Really sad is so small and the chef overcook it and the meat become dry and shrink. And taste really no match to capitol. The only best dish is the black tofu. Maybe the chefs specialized are different at different restaurant??
Pretty good.
Interesting Signature dishes.
Will visit again!
The Famous Fried Rice I ordered was one of the best I've ever eaten. However, nothing else really caught my attention, but do keep in mind that I am a very fussy eater. The rest of the table agreed that the food was amazing and they also praised it for its generous portion and cheaper price.
If you plan to eat dinner here, either make a reservation or come extra-early or you will not manage to get a table. Nearly every large table had a "Reserved" sign on it when I walked in.
The parking spots right outside get filled up fast, and the closest alternative (slight farther down the street, behind the restaurant) costs 60 cents per hour. There is a valet outside the restaurant that will gladly help.
Our recent visit to The Famous Kitchen was an exceptional experience. The wait staff was attentive, kind, and respectful, ensuring our comfort and enjoyment throughout the evening. Their dedication extended beyond simply taking orders; they offered expert recommendations on menu items and maintained a constant presence to ensure our needs were met. The food itself was delicious, complementing the wonderful service and creating a truly memorable dining experience. We highly recommend this place and look forward to returning in the future.
Second time here. Duck and steamed fish consistently good. Service by old time servers more consistent, the new ones not even sure of items on menu. Saw another table having steamed ginger Prawns so thought of trying but it came so late after we have finished the rest of our food and it was overcooked. Meh.
I'm not sure about the high rating for this place, perhaps I didn't order the correct dishes or the dishes are not to my liking. The dishes I had were just okie - sweet and sour pork, Assam fish, french beans, fried chicken Italian style ?! (The sauce was strange ), corn soup, tofu and fruit platter. I prolly won't come here again.
A controversial place to some extent. From their 4-pages wine list more than half was missing. After a while the waiter brought a piece of paper with the codes of what they did have. Most of what was present was closer to 200$. As for the food- the roasted chicken was nice and tender, chili crab was very nice. Fish skin and scallop/abalone dish I didn’t like much
Had this seafood pot recently and its taste was really refreshing. Slightly sour and spicy at the same time. The ingredients were fresh and certainly goes with a bowl of white rice!
Food is Good. Volcano Chicken is a must. Seafood is very fresh. Service is excellence.
After long walk to Upper Seletar Reservoir and beautiful sunset view, the delicious food in this restaurant is a special bonus.
Came here with my in laws and family for a birthday celebration. The food was wonderful although they tend to be on the saltier side (so do request for less seasoning if need to). The waitresses were all very nice and attentive to our needs and requests. They even programmed the food delivery cat robot to serve our birthday cake and made the robot play 2 rounds of birthday songs! The aircon where we were seated was a bit too cold, otherwise it's a nice place to dine in. The waitresses even helped us to cut and serve us our birthday cake! The only downside is there is no drop off porch at the restaurant so in events of rain (like it did when we visited), we got a bit drenched while heading back to our car after our lunch.
Food is decent, price is at the higher side.
Even though abit out of the way for myself and guests, will still go the distance to Famous Kitchen to dine. If weather is not humid and still, I'll prefer dining outdoors to allow my grandkids to view the fishes housed at 2 huge fish-tanks and other shell fish on containers. Indoor dining area is huge and comfortable. Food quality is good and guests can request for cooking style to be tweaked. Service staff are attentive and responsive. Good selection of whisky and wine to pair with food. Always feel very welcome when dining at Famous Kitchen.
So far one of the best chinese restaurant i ever been to in my life.
Nice food, finally found the closest KL Hokkien Noodle in Singapore
I’ve been patronizing them for years as it’s near where I stay. The prices have increased steeply and they seemed to upsell their food. Food is also less tasty compared to the past. Salty food, thick and oily gravy aplenty, and simply food that cannot be consumed too often as it unhealthy. A very expensive tze char in the neighborhood with very limited parking spaces.
First time in my life of almost 60 years that I have attended a wedding/birthday celebration when the dishes were served 2/3 varieties at one go. Norm is ONE dish at a time.
Food was well prepared except for the dessert.
The food here is quite tasty and not too pricey. We had the "Sour Veg Fish with Soon Hock" and this dish is so good that it makes all other dishes we had pales in comparison. The fish was fresh and the sauce is sweet and sour to the right proportion and goes too well with plain rice. Definitely a must when dining here. Prepare to not find any parking if you are driving here though, parking is very limited.
Food was decent. But in the middle after serving second or third dish, the food stopped coming for about 30minutes and children were left hungry and we were left waiting there for a long time when only half-done with lunch. In the end, we were told 2 of the dishes were OOS and we had to cancel.
Nice alcoholic beverages selection...overall food quite good too
Food is decent here, service size is generous. Attracts older golfing crowd in general. Drinks and alcohol, I would say its on the cheap side.
Good place to have a good meal and drinks yourself silly after a day of golf nearby.
The food are always amazing. Especially the cockles, flower crab & Hokkien noodles!
Old school famous restaurant servicing traditional Chinese and seafood. Great taste and fantastic service. Will support. Order the volcano chicken for a treat for your visual.
We were there during Father's Day celebration. The service of restaurant is still great even though they were very busy. As for the food, I think the kitchen is overwhelmed, thus the standard is not as good as normal day.
Ordered takeout on grab. Food was nice but portion small for price, especially the dessert. The yam paste was sour indicating its not fresh and for $5 with three spoonful of quantity cant give it any higher then 3/5.
Famous Kitchen is excellent. I’ve eaten there several times for coworker dinners and with my wife. Food choices and quality are as good as anything downtown at half the cost. The staff is attentive and very helpful. Something that is a rarity here in Singapore. Get away from the overhyped tourist trap eateries and try The Famouse Kitchen.
Revisited this restaurant, still convinced they deserved to get 5 stars. Should try their signature dish like flower crabs, bihun lobster, prawn paste chicken wings, chili crabs and black pepper crabs. In fact they have many other great dishes like fried squids, salted egg fish skins and salted pepper ribs to pair with beer and whiskey. By the way they have more variety of whiskey to choose from compared to any other pubs. I believe their yearly whiskey sales must be ranked top 3 for chinese or seafood restaurant. The sister and brother owners, Jenny and Jeffrey respectively, are super friendly and lovely people and always there to serve you, talk and drink with you. Location is a bid far but no place is far enough for good food in Singapore. Go by taxi or Grab. Definitely worth trying!
Their teochew porridge was good. Although not many dishes, it was just enough to have the basics like chye poh omelette, braised duck, dao pok, salted egg. There was free flow porridge that came piping hot in a claypot. Service was good, I loved that they served the chilli garlic vinegar sauce that goes very well with teochew porridge dishes.
enjoyable food experience as usual and service staff are very attentive. but some of the dishes seems to have a slight change in the taste so not sure if the chef is still the same as before.
From Msia style hokkien mee & hakka fried pork to its signature salt baked crabs, the dishes are all very tasty! I struggle to decide what's my fav but it's a toss up between the "粥水鱼” and the cincalok sotong.. love it!!
Food is good. Nice environment with no crowd
Good food and service ! Excellent braised duck
Now:Just found out not long ago. You can get to this place thru MRT Springleaf stop. Walk 5-10min and u can reach the place.
Past:I like the food. Can visit again but not easy to find the place.
Love the great variety of hawker food that are value for money and great tasting too! Definitely will revisit soon!
Chinese cuisine. All dishes were quite up to the normal standards. It was a little disturbing to watch the fowl being flamed while standing upright on a prong. Then quickly taken away.
Good food after golf
Food generally good. Overall nice place.
Reservations made online on Quandoo are not entitled to existing promos or discounts.. No reservations needed anyway, they are very empty.
Nice simple food, okay price. But service can be improved. And maybe less focus on selling alcohol.
I love the boss there, she is so gentle with all the customers and all the workers there have a personal touch in the way they treated all the customers. I will surely recommend all my friends and relative there. THUMBS UP👍
So superb a place for Malaysian food I have never come across. Really really like this place.
Seafood is fresh and above average taste. Prices are reasonable and service is good.
The Food is great, but the whole experience ups a couple of notches when Jenny (Proprietress) hosts! 4.3/5
Came at lunch.
Will remember this lunch forever.
