Reviews of Yeo Keng Nam Chicken Rice
Total $17.50 inclusive of gst. This is my first time here and I was puzzled as to why the bill is high when making payment and I was informed that 1 portion chicken $6.50 and 1 plate of rice $1.50, Coffee $2.80 and kai lan $5.80. My first time having $8 chicken rice have not include gst yet😅 Soup is nice and veggy done just right🤤
Woodleigh Mall had a lot of good options but missing from this area is a local’s chicken rice place. Once in a while I like eating take out for chicken rice and buying half mixed roast and steamed chicken accompanied by nice rice and chili. Well now if you are in this area you can come to this place. They give generous portions for half a chicken and rice and chili is nice. Very convenient for this area if you live around Bidadari Park.
Old school style setup, air conditioned seats. Free parking outside. Main dish is chicken rice and have some other local Chinese food. Staff are attentive and will suggest what's good if you asked.
Price for chicken rice is on the high side, but quality is good, one portion serving is 6.50$ and rice is $1.30 per plate. But it's a a/c restaurant setup, so I guess the price is acceptable.
Be prepared to pay 10% service charge and GST for your meal.
We ordered half a boiled chicken and a vegetable dish of baby kailan for 2.
The rice was grainy , not oily and could have been more fragrant. Having said that you could even just eat the rice on its own. The chicken served over a bed of cucumber slices was moist and tender dressed with a lovely light sauce.
I was impressed with the sauces of finely ground fresh chilli and finely ground fresh ginger. The freshness and lack of oil were a good accompaniment to the chicken and rice. Add in the good quality slightly sweet thick dark sauce and the trio were in perfect harmony.
I was disappointed with the soup which I remember used to be served piping hot, was more peppery and came with pieces of cabbage in it. This time round I could not taste the pepper in the soup and there was no cabbage.
Keen Fei Tang Today I finally stopped by Yeo Keng Nam Traditional Hainanese Chicken Rice to buy take-away Chicken Rice for my grandson. Wifey and I had been talking for over 15 years that we should try this eatery each time we drove past the area…but didn’t materialize.🤣🤣🤣
Small shop with around 10 tables. At that time only 3 tables were occupied. Could hear some Chinese Nationals talking in the kitchen at the rear. The attendant/cashier was another Chinese National with strong Northern Accent.
The lady chopping the chicken and packing the meals was rather senior in age; rather slow in action and seemed had some hearing problems. The attendant had to repeat order to her a few times. Probably the Northern Accent didn’t help.
While waiting (rather long), I observed the food the eat-in patrons were consuming . Looked pretty nice - sambal kangkong, some curry stuff, etc.
When I opened the packets of chicken rice (one white breast meat and the other roasted chicken drum), they didn’t look appealing. Plain looking, no soy sauce. I wonder if was meant to be, or the elderly lady had forgotten to add.
However, the rice was well cooked, the grains were loose and didn’t stick together. Not oily, hence not so fragrant. Perhaps more healthy.
I wonder if this is how “traditional” Hainanese Chicken Rice should be eaten. But the two packets of takeaway chicken rice @ $13 wasn’t cheap. Hmm… eat for health reason perhaps.
Hey wifey, I think you didn’t miss much. Unless we eat in, more choices.
Crispy noodles is worth a try. Generous with well cooked chicken and fish slices, and prawn. Gravy is exactly the way hor fun lovers would like it.
The white chicken is very good, but the sauce has overwhelming sesame oil. The fish maw soup is surprising good. The fried chill beef is soft tender and flavourful.
The chicken rice is pretty good, rice alone is “money”. The Chicken is pretty standard and drizzle sauce - yummy. Portions are quite poor as you can see, but I didn’t enjoy the soup as they served pig intestines soup. Meal for 2 with 2 drinks was about $35.
Came here to try it out after reading reviews of hainanese pork chop.
I must admit the pork chop itself wasn’t too bad and was cooked right at the right places if you know what I mean.
However, the fries were a huge disappointment .
Whole dish - felt way too commercialized .
Price - way too OVERPRICED .
Service - arrogant Staff.
Will I come back again for the pork chop?
NO. Even though it tasted above average.
One Time Customer - not even gonna try the chicken rice even though many others say are nice.
Food is good, but was shocked by pricing. I ordered just 1 plate of chicken rice plus egg, it cost more than $10!
Good atmosphere. Tasty food and the service was good. Very neat.
My family loves the chicken rice here, they have maintained their standard over these years! Fuss free place to enjoy a casual meal with the family, or take away - give them a call to order and collect after. They have delivery too! Oh yes they provide soup when you dine in too!
Very traditional family resturant.
The white Chicken was juicy and good. The complementary soup taste sooooooo excellent !! I can finish 2 big bowls.
Been patronising this place for quite a while now but first time eating in.
Chicken rice is the obvious choice to eat here but they serve car char dishes here too. Never tried but have seen many patrons eating fish head curry and vegetable dishes before.
For the chicken rice, roast version is slightly better. Rice itself isn’t too oily nor flavourful. Chilli isn’t too chilly and has a slight but nice sour tinge.
Very pricey though cos it’s at least 8 bucks for 1 pax to dine in. 6.5sgd and 1.5sgd for the rice.
Takeaway is at least 6 bucks for a packet.
Parking is available outside the shop but limited and difficult to find during dinner time.
Reasonable prices for their range, we frequently order from here if the cuisine fits.
Poor service.
I've been a customer here for a very long time. Today's service was shocking. Ordered Teh Ice aka ice tea aka teh peng. but we got ice water. Chap who took order insists teh ice is water with ice. Proudly said he is Malaysian so knows better. Earlier elderly wait staff argued with what we ordered claiming it was not enough for 5 pax. Why can she just respect what was ordered? Today was embarrassing as these were overseas guests of mine.
One of the Top chicken rice stall offering many other types of dishes as well.
A nice little place with good food. The service is sweet.
Very nice food and lady boss and staff very pleasant and polite . The food is great !!
Nice food at reasonable prices
This little chicken rice stall is rarely noticed when one drives down the road, but the experience it provides when you enter and dine in is lovely. I have visited this place countless times together with my family on Sunday afternoons and the waitress always welcomes us warmly. The chicken rice there is delicious and they are well known for assam fish head curry as well! Certainly worth a try.
We accidentally stay not too far away from this restaurant. Both this place a and the eating house next to it have good food. We ordered chicken liver and another spicy eggplant with salty fish, which we both didn't get to feel the spice at all, and chicken rice (without chicken). Both were delicious! I tried their herbal jelly (black jelly), a bit bitter but comes with a small portion of honey that compliments its taste very well. Nothing to complain. Love it here!
Steam chicken was nice and soft . Portions are quite reasonably big, overall food was good.
Everything is good here.
The portion is good and inexpensive. Food is really well done. I had a peek into the kitchen and the chefs looked old and seasoned. The restaurant is small and maned by family members (I guess) so the service is quick and good. This is way better than chain restaurants in malls with food prepared by central kitchens.
It's a hole on the wall, but don't get put off by the look and you will be rewarded with tasty food.
I'm an avid fan of Hainanese Chicken Rice . By that , I'm looking at Steamed Chicken.
Amongst good rice, I would rank Far East Plaza Chicken Rice as The Gold Standard .
Well, chanced upon this shop as it happens to be close to where I live . One word- Remarkable !
It's chicken is juicy and so tender. Pay attention to fine details such as soup and their 麻油。 Good quality really brings out the taste . Go for steamed chicken
This is one of my favorite chicken rice... it reminds me of the old Singapore family restaurant.
I ordered the roasted chicken rice with braised egg. The chicken rice was served piping hot. The roast chicken, egg, with the cucumber slices came on a side plate, accompanied by a hot bowl of soup.
The rice was fragrant and savoury, it went down very well with the roast meat. I sipped on the soup quickly but the waiter was kind enough to top up without asking.
The whole meal was $8+ with service and GST. Pricier than hawker fare.
The restaurant is air-conditioned, quiet, and clean. There are parking lots outside the shophouses as well as around the neighborhood.
Other chinese dishes are offered as well if your fancy a more diverse spread than chicken rice.
Delicious Hainanese Chicken Rice. Yeo Keng Nam never fails to deliver a good meal. Chicken stock soup here is delicious, peppery and tasty. Place is comfortable and clean. Staffs were efficient and friendly. Yum!
Singaporeans are really picky when comes to chicken rice... would say it's quite good especially served with their other dishes... but could be a bit of frustration when a bit crowdy...
Good standard chicken rice.
If you are looking for the traditional and old fashioned chicken rice, this is the place to go. Also try the chives with roasted pork and the curry fish head. The free soup is a must too if you are a fan of bak kut teh, peppery soups or pig stomach soup.
Open even after others close for business, so convenient. Good chicken rice plus wider menu of bean sprouts & even softshell crab. Delicious food.
My kids favorite chicken rice... But the price is now $5.10 for 1 packet of takeaway (brown paper wrapped). Getting too costly... Opening bigger door for competition.
Local favourite of mine.. Good value but when is chicken rice not? Many taxi uncle's agree that this is very good.
Tasty food but slightly over-priced. Overall, may return to eat again. Best to repeat order to the aunty taking the order as she may be a bit confused.
Order a whole chicken. It feeds a family of four. Love the fragment rice. Mix it with the black sweet soy sauce, ginger and chilli. The rice itself could be a dish!
Passable but nothing to shout about. $20+ for 2 pax.
I grew up on this chicken rice. In fact, my mom grew up on this chicken rice. It is full of old school vibes. You could be forgiven to think that you're in JB when you're here. The food is excellent. Steamed chicken is succulent, tender and flavourful. Rice is evenly coated with oil. All the hallmarks of awesome chicken rice. Even the soup is super full of umami and peppery side they use pig intestines. The other zichar dishes are very good too, but obviously the star is the chicken rice. Service is fast and good. The auntie that served me when I was a kid still works here. Price is reasonable (not JB prices obviously). My wife and I paid about $37 for the food shown here. Simply put, you can't go wrong with this chicken rice. Try it!
I had Hainanese Chicken rice and it was simply amazing. Place had a nice traditional ambience and service was good. 👌👍
It's among the best. Chicken sauce is good, rice is very competent. Chili is just right. It's all good. Order more.
Ordered takeaway. Contrary to most comments, staff very friendly and helpful. Maybe they have reviewed their business and services since the mentioned incident since.
We've been eating here more and more frequently. To me, theirs is the best chicken rice.
consistently good Chinese food. like their chicken rice, many of their vegetable dishes especially sambal kang kong.
Fair decent. Won't travel all the way for it though.
Food is tasty, but I think there's alot of MSG! All of us felt super thirsty after dining there.
Fragrant traditional chicken rice. However, the portions are getting lesser over time.
Above average chicken rice. Free convenient parking. Small cosy restaurant.
My fool-proof go-to place for curry fish head and chicken rice. I get food catered from here too!
Very average chicken rice. Restaurant also has a strange odor inside.
Great chicken rice and side dishes especially the prawn Ngoh-hiang
The food was good and the service was excellent. Polite and friendly staffs.
Love the chicken rice chilli!! Value for money.
This is a sleepy little restaurant with one of the best chicken rice in Singapore.
Decent food but a quite pricey.
Good chicken rice and curry fish head
Good foods and reasonable price, must try!!
Good chicken rice restaurant with Chinese dishes.
