Reviews of Yu Cun | Voted Best Curry Fish Head in Singapore | Popular Zichar Restaurant (Taiseng)
The curry fish head is really good, generous portion of veggies added too. Clean dining environment, indoor n outdoor seatings. Staff were polite and prompt in service too.
We came for early dinner, not too crowded. By 6pm, it was full house! Recommend to make reservation.
Good food but pricey and they charging GST + service fee hence it became more expensive.
Service quality wise some of them are good but some of them doesn't have some sense during clearing of the table as we are still chatting on the table but they holding the big bucket to clear the table as if we are not there. We were a bit triggered because we paid quite a premium price and not hawker center price so we feedback to their manager . Their reason is they don't have enough table to serve customer (not true though because there are plenty of empty tables.)
Their action seems like chasing us away after we spent about $200 in their restaurant. Not going back anymore because this given our oversea guest a bad impression
This place is really bustling! Their curry fish head is nice, and the fish head is really fresh! Had more dishes with the whole family today but didn’t take picture much because food is too good! The yam ring and harcheong gai are really tasty. 🤤 Will visit again.
1st time here, curry fish head is good, fish is fresh, gravy is appetizing, rich in flavor but not cloying. The prawn roll & honey garlic chicken are mediocre. Just a suggestion, perhaps the restaurant should just offer more portions of marmite chicken, I was there around 6pm but sold out, honey garlic chicken is kind of Korean, not suitable for local cuisine. The prawn roll didn't taste of prawn, kind of disappointing. Total bill plus GST & service charge is $98 including a drink for 3pax.
Yu Cun Claypot Curry Fish Head really one of the best. Quite affordable and friendly for family and friend gatherings. Authentic Chinese cuisines zi char. Strongly recommended to try. We tried Claypot Curry Fish Head
Mongolian King Ribs
Chicken Fillet with Mango
Spinach in Superior stocks
Overall was very satisfied and tasty.
Air conditioning indoor is a bliss at this season for lunch. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating , read the review on good curry fish head . Yes the fish is fresh and serves in hotpot . Enjoyed it with added veg lady fingers . Yum
Yummy food! Fresh and generous serving. The fish head curry is must try! Been eating here for years, and food still tastes equally good.
Tried the new claypot Lala (clam) hotpot today, and we are NOT disappointed. Fresh and delicious.
The curry is average for me.
The fish head is half of a head.
The bean curb skin was tough.
There's no wow factor this time.
Other places served lower price and more to my palate.
Do not allow booking after 5.30pm. So if you are bringing an elderly along, like myslef do think twice. Waited for more than an hour, plus was hard find place to park the car. Food is so-so only. Spicy chicken was full of chilli seeds so difficult to eat. Personally, I don't think it's worth the wait and price paid.
However, I would like to compliment the staff, polite and good service rendered.
Fishead curry was really good, super tasty and goes really well with the rice. The friend chicken was good too. However the firsts are really expensive, we paid about $30+ for the fishead curry, can be finished with 2 pax, while in normal Zhi char it’s about $10-$20. The other dishes were also expensive. Still attracts quite a good crowd though!
Ordered honey garlic chicken, seafood with chilli sauce and their curry fish head. Curry fish head was worth the price as the fish head alone could feed 4 pax. Also like that the fish head can have lots of customizations, including the spiciness level, added ingredients(vegetables) and even extra curry sauce. Personally felt that curry sauce itself was enough for 4 pax, no need to add. If you come, the curry fish head is a must try.
It’s our first time there. The curry fish head was good and a big serving. We ordered that along with other dishes amongst 4 of us and they were yummy. It was for a bday and we brought a small cake and the staff was so lovely to ask if we wanted a complimentary 寿桃. To our pleasant surprise, they all came to sing happy bday w a bday sign. Bday man was shy frm the attention but very happy too! Thank u so much!
Came here for lunch with my colleagues, and it was really quite empty. The curry fish head is so-so, but the curry is nice. A little on the expensive side. There were lunch bentos offered but portion is relative small. My colleague ordered Char Siew Fried Rice and the portion was huge. It tasted normal though, nothing spectacular.
Best fish head curry I’ve had! The sauce is so thick and flavourful and the fish was really fresh! There are additional ingredients like taukee and ladies finger etc. We also ordered a few meat such as salted egg pork, lemon chicken, signature king ribs and it’s really good! Will definitely revisit
Every good family gathering place. They have large tables to accommodate big groups like us. Went with a party of 12 and everyone was seated comfortably. Extensive variety of food choices and lots of creative dishes. They even have the Stephen Chow's sweet and sour pork. 🤣🤣 (served cold). Rich creamy curry fish head. Would have order the spicy version if not eating with children. Pricing on the higher side but will indulge for the good service and quality of food. Parking maybe a challenge. Overall, kudos to the chefs and staff.
The best fish head curry i have tasted in Singapore so far. It was a perfect blend of spicy and creamy. The fish and veggies just melt in your mouth. The rice perfectly complements the curry but the best of all I the extremely soft and freshly baked buns. The ambience was very casual and family friendly. Overall a wonderful experience. Definitely worth the price.
X marks the spot - it certainly lives up to its name!
Ordered the extra spicy version, wasn’t too spicy for my family, and enjoyed every single bit of it ⭐️ the spiciness level was on point, coconut milk wasn’t overpowering, liquid yet rich, leaves you wanting more after each sip or dip!
*Make sure to order the extra mantou and taukee to go along with this savoury bowl of goodness
The other highlight of the show is their shrimp paste chicken, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a flavourful and perfectly done exterior 👍🏻
The other dishes were good on their own as well, less than king pork rib which we found to be quite bland, though the texture was really good.
Definitely worth the food king good crown 👑
Authenticated curry head, sauce was rich and flavourful. Also love their beancurd with crab meat, Fried Ngoh Hiang, rice wine chicken, pumpkin prawn as well broccoli w mushroom & Abalone. Ambience nice and price is reasonable. Will definitely go back again with my family.
Overall, the curry fish head was good. It was lucky we went at the time weather was breezy and not the busy hour so we don't have to rush. Pretty filling for 2 pax. The total cost is around $51+
Yu Cun Signature Curry Fish Head, Roasted Red Wine Short Ribs, Cordyceps Flower with Conpoy Stewed Chicken Broth, Passion Fruit Grilled Superior Prawn, Treasure Duck, Braised Mushroom Broccoli with Conpoy. When you boast a name about curry fish head in your namesake, it is without asking, a must order and a go to place for fish head curry lovers. Since I am not a spice lover, my favourite is their red wine short ribs and a very interesting treasure duck which consists of glutinous rice within.
Went really early at 5pm on a Sunday
Not crowded
Ordered all small portion dishes
Signature curry fish head - Worth every single bucks ($30)!! Fish head is fresh, moist, packed with meat and tender, has lots of vegetables too which soaked with all the curry sauce. Shiok 👍🏻
Ngoh hiong - Too small piece for me, outer layer is overfried but inside is well seasoned and tender.
Rice wine chicken - surprisingly good sia, broth is not overwhelmed with the alcohol, chicken is tender and goes really well with the broth.
Signature king rib - can order if you like king pork rib, it is one of the better ones compared to others zichar stall.
Not too sweet and really tender!
IMO, it's on the pricier side but worth trying once.
Yu Cun – Claypot Curry Fish Head
Yu Cun is a local zi char restaurant specialising in Claypot Curry Fish head, using only premium and fresh fish. It was recommended by our friend C, for a quick lunch.
A must-order here is, of course, their Claypot Curry Fish Head ($30). The fish head is fresh and covered with lemak rich curry and loaded with ladyfingers, bean curd skin, eggplant, long bean and tomato. The curry absorbs into part of fish nicely, yet it was not overpowering and you can taste the actual fish taste. The low fire keeps the curry warm and nice to eat. Definitely a “rice thief” dish.
In terms of spiciness, I find it very manageable (CBK spiciness ratings at 5/10). LD thinks the dish can add extra heat, as the chilli and spice is simply not powerful enough.
I suggest you order the Fried Beancurd Skin ($3.80). We added it into the curry fish head, let it soak for a minute before taking it out. The beancurd absorbs and carry the rich curry nicely, plus the crunchy texture making it very addictive.
Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetable in Soy Sauce ($9.90). Yu Cun version of pork belly braised with mei cai. The pork belly is fatty and tender, while the gravy is salty infused with mei cai flavour. However, as a Hakka, I find this dish a bit watery and lacking the OMPH factor.
Marmite Chicken Wing ($11.90) is just delicious. The chicken was deep fried till crispy and evenly coated with sweet savoury marmite sauce. I can have the whole plate on my own.
As we only order limited dishes, I end up ordering Ice Jelly ($3.50) for dessert. A nice and refreshing dessert.
Service is friendly and efficient. Order is placed through tablet instead of the service staff. The restaurant is very open and remains cool even when the temperature was searing hot outside. If you are coming for lunch, I suggest you come around 11.30 to get your parking spot.
The verdict: A must try place for claypot curry fish head and zi char. From the small batch of the dishes that we tried (4 out of 90 plus dishes in the menu), the taste and quality have been good. We look forward to our next visit. LD will definitely be asking them to increase the spiciness of their curry fish head next time around. Cheers!!
A beautiful and homely restaurant serving fresh and delicious local delicacy! Baby friendly, great for all occasions as we heard twice their staff singing a warm lovely happy birthday song for guests ❤️❤️❤️
I am not great with spiciness but their fishhead curry could have minimal spiciness yet not compromise on the flavourfulness. 菜脯豆腐 is unassuming but delicious.
Interesting setting as well, with theme of Singapore childhood using facades inspired by classic dragon playground, abacus etc.
Good curry fish head. Available in Nonya style too. Other dishes are yummy too. Down side is the location not near MRT station.
We tried so many curry fishhead this is one of the best. Curry fishhead lover can come here to try out.. we tried the dishes very delicious.. will definitely come back again
Fish head curry is great during cold weather like this. the fish is fresh and tender. half fish head plus fillet. spiciness is just nice
seafood Otak is nice, a bit of Thai style and suitable for more than 2 pax as it only taste good at the first 2 bites.
Haven't dined in such a perfect restaurant for some time until I came here! They have a wide range of delicious food and great service . Will definitely be back.
Yu Cun Curry Fish Head offers one of Singapore’s best renditions of this iconic dish, with a perfectly balanced curry that’s rich, spicy, and tangy, complemented by the tender, juicy meat of the fish. The atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for a satisfying meal with friends or family. Generous portions and consistent quality make Yu Cun a must-visit for anyone craving authentic fish curry 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
100% would recommend this price if you’re looking for a good and shiok curry fish head claypot! This is where you should head to. 🌟👍🏼
Their side dishes are also very well done! Their soups are also very savory and non gelat!
almost all tables are occupied when arriving at 730. full of local people.
curry fish head pot must order. other dishes like cereal prawn, clam pot and vegetables are all good.
kind of like a comfort food for the locals.
will bring my friends to come again.
Ordered the Claypot Curry Fish Head. It was full of flavour, gravy was thick (goes well w rice) and the amount of fish meat was generous!
Also ordered the 四大天王 only to realise that most of the vegs can be found in the curry fish head itself.
We ordered delivery and at first expected the taste might be different if compare dine in.
BUT to be our surprise the foods were so yummy & tasty 👍👍
Curry fishhead is much try dish , the fried prawn source chicken, n the lohan vege aslo damn good taste !
Certainly your go-to place for a nice claypot of curry fish head. Curry gravy was rich and flavoursome, not overly spicy.
Orderer a set meal of 4 for 78$++ with 5% discount ( discount is for singaporeans only).
Rice and fried buns or not for free, but the fried buns are splendid!
Every dish that I ate is good. Not too salty and sweet.
As for the curry fish head, there's a less spicy option for you if you cannot take it!
Went on Sunday 8pm. The restaurant is full. Waited about 15mins for a table for 2.
We ordered nonya curry fishhead with rice. Fish is fresh and curry is sweet sour that goes well with all the ingredients.
At $36 per pot.
Went on a Sat evening and there was inevitably a crowd. Nevertheless, good service and food! The curry fish head is a must try! Expected damage per pax $20+
Rice was served hot and tasty . Fish head curry was ok for kids.
Great restaurant serving chinese style curry fish head recommended by a YouTube channel. This is the second time we patronize the restaurant. Comparing last time, this round curry is a bit too creamy and less spicy.
Their fish head curry is a must order. All the dishes that i have tried has not disappoint me before.
Came here after some positive review but lical channel. But rather disappointing. Very normal curry fish head n dishes but at premium price.
The curry was delicious! The prawn paste fried chicken is a must try too! Devoured by my girl.
Hm... Nothing special in my opinion. I like curry fish with lots species, and mustard seeds is a must. Definitely no mustard seeds and it's quite bland. Plenty of coconut milk and curry powder.
The curry fish taste so delicious! The portions are big too! Very worth to go if u like curry fish
Waited for about 30 mins before getting a seat (went on 14 March). Place was crowded with people. Service good, curry fish head was good.
Waited 30mins to get seated. And the food started arriving after 50mins from submitting my order. The curry fish head is tasty and fresh but it is not worth waiting so long for it.
gr8 fish head curry. i can say its one of the best curry fish head in singapore. cozy place for family with youngster ambience
One of the best curry fish head i’ve eaten in singapore, the fish is very fresh and the curry is very creamy and towards the spicier side which is to my liking. I also notice the way the restaurant designed their interior space, it gives me a very nostalgic vibe and at the same time the whole place feels very lively. Even the staff puts in much effort to make us feel the chinese new year spirit. I am extremely impressed with the service as i realise that the staff make sure to help every table to lao yu sheng even when they are very busy. Although they are famous for their curry fish head, there are some dishes that really stood out too. For example, honey garlic chicken, pork knuckle, fried beancurd with pork floss and many more that i can’t remember the name of😅. Having dine at Yucun with my friends really made us all have an amazing times as we didn’t have to hold back our laughter and we talked and laughed till our hearts content. We will definitely come back more often and we are definitely gonna bring more friends back! 😊
This damn well satisfied my fish head curry craving that day! I just found this place through internet as I was browsing for good restaurant/s to bring my colleagues whose having a vacation here in SG. It didn't disappoint. Foods are delicious! And they loved it. 😉
great environment, great service! Recommend! Must come!
Good Food & Ambience. Will come back again!
Parking is a pain as limited spaces and if it’s your first time near the area, use GPS to guide as if you miss the turn, it will be an additional 5 min loop depending on time of day.
Delicious food ..
Loved the fish head curry . The lemongrass drink was refreshing .
One of the best curry fish head I’ve ever tasted. Curry fish head was rich without being overwhelming, flavourful and sufficiently spicy. They added beancurd skin which was really tasty when soaked well in the gravy. Har Cheong Gai was very crispy and Qing Long vegetables were quite delicious too. Fuss free place to enjoy good food. That said, the waitresses were quite friendly and offered to take photos for us too.
Superb food. The curry is sightly nonya style? Most dishes were great! Only exception was the prawn roll which was cold inside.
Service is good and fast, not exactly friendly but gets it done quick.
This has to be the best fish head curry in Singapore. Im here almost every other week! Highly recommended
Food and service level is beyond our expectation. They have an efficient table booking system. The staff was attentive, they noticed our table has a baby and they brought him a pack of gifts. We ordered the 10pax set meal and some recommended dishes, all the dishes were so tasty! After the meal, we had very nice birthday surprise from the staff. Highly recommended, will be back again!
Food is ok. The workers are patient and helpful.
Read reviews of this place saying its the best fish head curry in Singapore. True Indeed when I tried it for myself. 100% sure I'll visit again. Value for money
The curry fish head is delicious!
The signature tofu is highly recommended
I don’t recommend the three-color milk tea. The tea is light and the coconut sugar is not fragrant.
The environment is very comfortable and the service attitude is also very good. The claypot curry fish head here is also a delicacy that my wife particularly likes! The food is also to my family’s taste. I highly recommend it. Like it!
Traveling here and visiting the restaurant for the first time, I ate delicious and more delicious dishes than I thought were worth experiencing. The service staff is very enthusiastic and attentive. You can order more dishes at any time
The food in the restaurant is clean, fresh and delicious. The waiters are also smiling and friendly, and the service is very good. The decoration in the store is also beautiful.
Fishing Village Fish Head Curry is really a place suitable for families to gather together for a meal. The food here is suitable for everyone of all ages. It is no exaggeration to say that it is the best fish head in Singapore. The waiters here are very friendly, the service attitude is also very good, the food is very hygienic, the environment and their decoration style are very unique, it is worth coming often👍
