Reviews of Yue Bai
A lovely Chinese restaurant, serving tasting menu.
Food preparation and presentation is good. Ingredients are fresh. Service level is acceptable.
Beautiful decor and great atmosphere ✅
Food was alright, nothing to shout about but we did enjoy some of the dishes more than the other like the Tong Ann Braised Pork Belly, XO Stir Fried Potato Cakes, Duck Wok Fried with Salt and Pepper and Braised Yam with alkaline cakes.
The lack of service was a disappointment. I expected a lot more from a restaurant of this price point. The restaurant is adequately staffed but they were not warm / attentive. I had to try very hard to get someone’s attention to come take our order. Also, tea was charged at $8 onwards per cup (depending on your tea of choice) which is rather pricey but the refilled tea was cold! This is not acceptable.
At first glance, the menu and food looks nothing different from what one will have at a normal Chinese restaurant in Singapore. But what’s amazing about the chef at Yue Bai is how he managed to refine these classic dishes to its absolute state. The taste is so well-refined that you can’t find flaws in the dishes presented; it is akin to tasting something you think you know how it should be but at a complete new level. Honestly, quite an enlightening experience! The flavour profile of each dish is very well-balanced, something that I find most chef struggles to achieve, the perfect equilibrium of flavours.
I manage to have a good conversation with the Chef and understand his ethos behind this restaurant and what he is seeking to bring out through his cooking to everyone’s palate and mind.
Though some may find the price tag that comes with the menu hefty, but what you are paying for is the ultimate refinement of flavours. You have to try it to know it!
Will definitely be back for more and it is also quite a good place for gathering! Lastly, service there was good but with room for improvement. One of the male waiter there really excelled while the other two female waitresses need some improvements.
Dinner date: 08/10/2023
We ordered the CNY Harmony Feast set menu at $218++/pax. Food is good in overall, but portion is very small. Hence I feel it's pricey as I was not full after I finished the course.
Pros: Very attentive service staffs, good atmosphere to dine in
Scams: Charged $5 for 2 mandarin oranges placed at the side of the table. We did not eat it (thought it's for deco), so we asked whether this charges can be waived. We got rejected and being told this is compulsory???????
Been wanting to try this place as I walked pass it often. I like the deco, the wooden carpentry gives out such a zen feeling. The menu available now is their winter menu, appetiser - chilled beetroot-infused lotus roots ($12), braised Australian beef chuck tail flap, daikon, black Pearl king mushroom ($18 per pax), Crisp-fried Charcoal tofu, pumpkin, white jade fungus, black fungus, Lily bulb, pumpkin purée ($28), Herbal Poached Rice, Atlantic Cod, black fungus, Angelica wine ($38). All that was enough for 2 small eaters, the poached rice can be shared by 2 if you order the same amount of dishes as me or more. This poached rice is heavenly, the cod is superior quality and the broth so yummy. I also like the braised Australian beef chuck. Actually all the dishes we ordered are nice. Service is good. Price is slightly on the higher side but you are getting quality ingredients. Will be back to savour the other dishes or when they change their menu.
As the name suggests, the theme revolved around the moon.
Greeted by classy and zen decorations, the place was very serene and it was pleasing to enjoy the palatable food amidst such lucscious setting.
What makes them special was using dietary therapy to enhance wellbeing.
We love trying out different dishes and with my food allergy, food we could try was limited so we had Crispy Tofu, Yuzu Dip (dip was special creation of the chef) for appetisers, Stuffed Chicken Wings, King Oyster Mushroom, Sarcadon Mushroom Sauce (nice!), Braised Baby Sharp Spinach, Yellow Millet, Wolfberries and Herbal Poached Rice, Atlantic Cod, Black Fugus (chef recommendation) for mains.
Lunch ended with a nice cold Double-boiled Snow Pear, Peach Gum and Mint Leaf for dessert.
Do remember to check for the portions before order for some items are single serving portion.
Overall lunch was great especially on such zen and classy ambience with lovely companions. 🥰
Walked past Yue Bai for quite a few times and decided to try it today. The food was quite special, didn't expected that everything turned out black for both prawns and chicken dishes. The beehoon was a little too healthy tasting for my liking. The paofan could be a little more flavourful and missing the crispy rice for a perfect paofan. I love the black sesame prawns thou. It was really crispy.
Truely surprise with the food presentation and taste. Ordered a la carte in appetisers fried burdock and lion mane mushroom-super. The latter was unique, recommend to try.
Main dishes were (1) cashew nut chicken ball, meat was tender, worth to try (2) Wok-fried Chinese Yam, Asparagus, Black Fungus, refreshing dish (3)steam chang-shou fish, the fish is tasteless and has to go with the sweet sauce. This dish is pale in comparison with earlier. (4) Deep-fried Granola Prawn (Deshelled), prawn was fresh and with granola gave a very different taste texture. Worth to try (5) read their specialty is Herbal Poached Rice, Atlantic Cod, Black Fungus, Angelica Wine. Very refreshing to end the dishes with this. The soup is thick for enjoyment. Ended with their dessert: Hashima, Winter Melon Puree, Dried Longan, smooth and rewarding.
A luncheon for 8pax, damage was at $1088+. Their portion is small, good to ask the staff for the order size. Requested individual portion for each guest and the staff did a good job. Overall love the food presentation, taste buds surprise, and especially the warmth’s from the attentive staff. Dinning environment is superb too. Good to make reservations advance as tables are limited. Recommend for small families and friends, business dinning. Ps: Sorry no photos to share
Celebrated mum's birthday.
A delightful experience. Every recommendation - right from appetisers to dessert - pleased our palate
We had the 7-course Autumn tasting dinner menu last night. There was nothing extraordinary about the dishes except for the herbal poached rice Atlantic cod. The cod was cooked to perfection and the charred taste of the scorched rice infused with the broth made each mouthful an absolute delight. Service was great but the table was not properly cleaned when we were seated as there were a few crumbs. Ambience was pleasant and casual.
The place is beautiful and creates a calming feel.
Food were sooooo GOOD!
All the ingredients are fresh.
Taste were fantastic.
Definitely a place I will intro many to visit.
The cod fish with the broth in stone bowl was so good that the taste is still lingering in my mouth.
The service were good too!
Well served , well explained!
Do visit this place. Totally no regret.
1. Orange juice was not freshly squeeze, very cheap choice of owner trying to cut cost when the tasting menu is 168++
2. Food portion is small, about half size compare to cantonese big names (imperial treasure etc)
3. White rice is not so fragrant. Can be improved.
Environment and service not bad, soup and starter taste good. But overpriced.
Delightful ambience, delightful service, delightfully delicious food - all served up in fine displays. My niece who is a famously picky eater ate every dish - no better testament than this!
Great food and ambience. Refined Chinese food that feels light and not too oily. Every dish feels like you had it before but didn't, as there is always a different twist or flavor from the traditional style, yet it all still comes together. Highly recommend to try.
I was not sure about this restaurant when I first came in; it was a bit 'clinical', at least the surroundings were. But then I started to interact with the staff and ordered some very unique dishes. We received great service from Putra (I think that's his name) and his colleagues, and the food was really good. The fish was fantastic, and the beef cheeks were awesome! I really enjoyed the food and the service, and I highly rate Yuè Bái and their team. Thank you for a very nice evening!
Great presentation and taste.
Very calm vibe, portion of dishes may be bit small for some big eaters :-)
Went for birthday lunch. Service was exceptional and really paid attention to details. Interesting take on Chinese food and it was delicious.
Great food, great place. The peking duck was amazing! Worth every second.
A few stand out dishes. Prices on the higher side.
