Reviews of School of Clay Arts
School of Clay Arts is the place to go if you want to learn pottery along with all the technicality and intricacy of the art. They are genuine and warm, offering an encouraging and empowering environment to learn and create. You leave the place with a proper education on clay and also with the ability to create. I have been coming here for 4 years and is always so grateful that a place like this exists.
if u've been contemplating/ling long ling long over different studios, this is ur sign to do pottery w SOCA. SOCA is managed by Elizabeth and her partner, but Elizabeth's the instructor for any of the clay/plastic works. she makes pottery soooooo fun, interesting and almost easy(kinda hehe). it brings me back to childhood fr. i attended the 2.5 weekend course which allowed me to learn sufficient basics to do some basic pottery myself. Elizabeth has always been super duper encouraging about clay & the inevitable mistakes as a beginner (& life in general). i cant wait to sign up for open studio sessions!!!!!!!!!!!
I was at SOCA this week with 3 girl friends. My very first time working with clay. And it was a lovely experience.
Elizabeth was very patient with us. We learn about clay through her interesting sharing, structured instructions for our hands on and finally she guided us closely ensuring that we successfully make a nice bowl. Cant wait for it to be ready!
I would highly recommend this class to anyone new to pottery!
School of Clay Arts had a different way to ensure participants enjoyed their wheels throwing session with a simplified to 4 steps from a lump of clay to shape o form.
They emphasised on participant experiences and connection with the clay. “Don’t focus on your worries (too deep not deep enough etc), focus on how you are changing clay.”
Participants are having a lively therapeutic session with clear and precise guidance from the instructors.
Bite-sized workshops, foundational classes, open studio sessions - there's something for everyone at any skill level here! Technique and intentionality are prioritised over an end product which build a strong foundation. That said, there is ample room to bring your own flavour to your pieces and express your individuality. Elizabeth has established a cosy and creative practice at School of Clay Arts bringing like minded clay-heads from all across the island together. Love the space and the people here,!
Attended February’s Pottery Fundamentals: Handbuilding workshop that spanned 4 sessions and had a great time! Would highly recommend this course to anybody interested in learning the basics of working with clay.
SOCA’s classes had just the right balance of theory and instruction with time given for us to experiment and practice on our own. Really appreciated Elizabeth and Kai Feng’s patient and attentive guidance and expertise, sharing with us about the local pottery scene and their knowledge of different pottery techniques and styles from different countries (especially Japan!) Class size was small enough that we all received regular feedback on how we were doing as well.
Really enjoyed the relaxed environment with a focus on learning and not perfectionism, Elizabeth and Kai Feng were very encouraging and flexible. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Looking forward to more pottery classes in the future !
This school focuses on the basics and science of clay working rather than the actual end product, so good to clarify the objectives at the start of the class. The owners do it out of passion and interest, prices are extremely reasonable and they do offer to fire your end product (with wait time) if you specify / ask. A truly relaxing and enjoyable experience.
A great place for a creative team bonding session. The team behind School of Clay Arts were very accommodative and responsive even though it was almost close to the festive period when I brought my entire team down for a pinchpotting session (~16 pax) and a pretty last minute request as well.
My team has nothing but praises for the session that we had - both teachers were very helpful in guiding and ensuring that we get the most out of the time we spent there.
Would recommend School of Clay Arts to anyone looking for a team-bonding spot.
It was our first time doing any sort of pottery work and it was amazing. Hats off to Elizabeth and Kai Feng for being so friendl, patient and helpful, answering all our questions too. It was a great experience! Thank you!
Teacher Nidhi is nice and patient.
