Reviews of Garden Pastry & Cake 嘉頓
waiting for the waffles around 15-20 minutes.
the batter they've been using was packed with creamy pandan flavour.
tried red bean, cream cheese, kaya.
didn't like the red bean, but the other flavour was good.
waffle texture, crispy on the side, soft and moist in the middle.
consume the waffle while it's hot.
price: just nice as a neighbour hood place.
Heard from friend and came for their famous waffles. Really tasted good as it really crispy on the outside. Their fillings are also very generous of thick spread. Love their yam n sweet potato bread, always fresh from oven, soft and taste great.
I like their sweetness keep to the minimum that suit me well.
Yet to try out other varieties in this bakery shop.
Ordered a 2KG number cake for my girl and told them to decorate it freely with pink and green buttercream. They surprised me with these cute figurines. Most importantly, tasted good and a refreshing change from the cakes that look very artistic but cost an arm and leg, and don't taste good. Would order from them again!
Came here for the waffles but left being more impressed by the Pandan Custard Cake.
SERVICE
They have an orderly queue system and did let us know beforehand the wait time. Since we were in no rush, we bought the Pandan Custard Cake to tide time and our hungry bellies. They beckoned us over nicely once our waffles were done.
FOOD
1. Waffles
We ordered a Kaya waffle and a Sea Salt Caramel waffle, which seems to be their unique selling point. I had the Sea Salt Caramel, but I couldn't taste much of the filling, it had a thin viscosity. Not sure if it's because my waffle came rather burnt, albeit crispy, it became cloying quickly and tasted hints of burnt caramel. It may be nicer if the caramel came in thicker viscosity.
2. Pandan Custard Cake
The cake and the dense custard was a perfect combo. The cake was moist and it tasted richly of pandan. The custard added to the texture of the cake. A single slice can be rather filling. It'll be difficult to have more than 1, if not 2 slices, in a single seating.
SUMMARY
It's almost 2 months since I visited and I'm still thinking about the Pandan Custard Cake. Competitor's offering will have a difficult time matching up to it.
Old school cakes and pastries at a old school deco bakery. It is as thou time stood still since the 90’s. Good selection of bread and cakes. There are freshly baked waffles with many flavours too. The mille fille crepe cakes are good too. Must try.
I’ve a penchant for old school bakeries like this one and I really love visiting this bakery. It feels so nostalgic! We usually get the freshly baked baguettes from here (which get sold out so quickly on Sundays when I visit) and the waffles are great too
I bought otah bun and ate the next day after reading the review and found it to be extremely saltish and didn't taste like otah. Pandan pancake and yam cake are ok.
One of the best pandan waffles ard, do try their taro bread too!
Do note that their waffles are only ready for sale at 12pm.
Absolutely love the mooncakes and the gentleman at the Takashimaya pop-up was so wonderful! Thank you for keeping the traditional taste (and affordable price), I've been looking for it for a long time 😊
One of the good pineapple tarts in the market. It’s slightly bigger than the normal size and not so sweet. Well baked with soft and flaky crust.
Nice waffles... one of the best in the East side.
Kaya there is good too.
Honestly always so worth it to make my time over to buy their product! Waffles are the BEST, old good hearty fresh waffles. Bread & cake selection is always plenty and any odd pick never disappoints. Love the traditional old no-go-wrong store they are and hope it stays this way!
They are good w anything pandan I guess..
Love the yam Swiss roll. Please do not leave this place without getting it! A pity I didn’t manage to get their signature pandan waffle. Tip: call up their outlet to place order and they will give you an estimated ready time. So head down and collect it without having to wait for long!
Went at 4.25pm on a sunday and there was no queue for the waffles! Ordered the crispy peanut pandan waffle $2.20. A number of customers arrived after me and the waffle queue formed. No paylah or paywave. Ate the waffle immediately and the taste and texture was great!
Ol school bakery hidden in a quiet neighbourhood. Nostalgic bread and cakes. My childhood memory of Yam pastry mooncake. Some said not as good as it used to be, but for me its full of memory, hence im still buying it yearly
They bake great cakes, especially the Swiss Rolls and fruit cakes. Their Swiss Rolls are savoury...out of this world !
Please try their coconut bun. Love their fillings in it. Lots of them!
I'm not a coconut person but yet I like to eat this.
Their waffles are also not too bad but sometimes the wait time for the waffle can be quite long (30Mins!).
Have a variety of good breads. Need to wait for about 30 minutes for pandan Waffles.
Buns are very soft, waffles very tasty and the fillings are very shiok too, esp peanut and red bean. Even if the waffle go soft in the texture, it’s still very tasty!! It’s a MUST try !
Old neighborhood bakery. I have patronized this bakery for many years. Despite the price increase their products were aplenty and nice. We could order seasonal cakes from them too! Worth buying!
Cute little bakery. Sells breads and cakes. Nice location
Yam cake is a must try. Bread and cake are reasonably priced. However, prices of handmade cookies etc could be adjusted. Understandable that it is handmade and so should be more expensive, but $14 for a small container with maybe 10 or so cookies is quite... Pricey.
Took a chance and bought their moon cakes at Takashimaya. Everyone was full of praise for them. I bought red dates and sesame.
Decided to get their Orh Nee swiss roll and pandan waffle after reading the review. It's really quite good. I will be back to try other items.
Old schools neighbourhood bakery. ❤️
The lotus yam mooncake is awesome. A definite must try. The staffs are very friendly and patient too.
Tried chocolate mousse cake. Thumbs up!!
Good waffles offset by staff's attitude.
Mooncakes (Walnut) fresh and not too sweet. Nice indeed
Things are really nice but staffs and lady boss attitude are very poor..
Serves some delicious cakes and bread.
Hotel level cakes at neighborhood prices
Wonderful tasty cakes
Very nice
