Reviews of Olsen Bakehouse
Wow nice cafe…
Seats are limited but I guess that’s the charm? The staff are quietly doing their thing and people are mindful due to the small space, I find people more considerate in sharing the tables and chairs.
The vibe is so…. Peaceful
Much more cosy and better priced than plain vanilla!
And the cookies honestly quite reasonable too! $4 a pack?!
My kids loved the place too.
I am here at 1:30pm mostly sold out :(
But I ate this Hojicha Mochi Donut which I ask them to heat up for me..
O my goodness
It was so yummy ..
Came here to get a coffee to realise that their bakes look so good! Minimal seating space. About 3 chairs and a veranda kinda long chair only. It's more of a takeaway concept. The friendly staff suggested to me to try their scones since I was quite full, yet entranced by their bakes.
They only serve oatmilk for their coffees, and the latte was pretty alright! Not hot, just warm. :) I even gave a little coffee biscuit at the top.
I rate: 3/5 🌟
The scone was really good! The Berry jam was wrapped around by some white butter cream, on top of a shiny sweet scone, that is mildly moist on the inside. It has a light herby taste to it as well. Really not bad!
I rate: 4/5 🌟
Would love to come back to try more of their bakes when I'm less full!
Can’t give an accurate rating because I only tried 1 item. But it is my first time and was in a rush to get some food for lunch, so I picked the ham and cheese focaccia that was recommended to me. Bread was lovely, light and chewy(sorry idk how to describe it!) but it was great. Was so thankful for the kind and patient service. Will be back to try some of their cakes/sourdough next time which look amazing! 😍🥰
Olsen Bakehouse, Joo Chiat: Looking like a quaint and coiffed saloon from the outside, Olsen Bakehouse is an experimental bakery that sells bakes over the counter, with a small area for those who want to sit in and soak up the lovely wafts of bake and then convivial environment. I nursed a coffee and a lovely strawberry scone to celebrate my 1 kg weight loss (Ok cheat day). The partner lady at the counter was so lovely, she injected such positivity into the air. You hear and feel it with people dropping in to buy their bakes. She even gave me free seaweed savoury cookies to try while we launched into chats. There’s also a small play area for kids if you so fancy staying in. While I couldn’t possibly eat everything - even on my precious cheat day - I really wanted to. So I’ll drop by again! #eatstylishtravelstylish
I was lucky enough to win their shokupan from a giveaway, and took the opportunity to try out their black sesame mochi and peanut butter kopi kaya cake! their black sesame cake was light, and had a beautiful sesame frosting and paste with mochi in between. the flavours in the pb kopi kaya cake complimented each other perfectly! the crunchy pb and the smooth kaya were the perfect pairing, and the coffee flavour was nostalgic. the staff was very friendly too! we would definitely recommend coming here and come back ourselves!
Stumbled upon Olsen bakehouse on a Sunday afternoon where the staff very kindly let us in even though they were about to close in 10 min. Coffee was great was very smooth and chocolatey notes. But what blew us away were the mochi doughnuts. To be honest they are not reminiscent of a regular deep fried mochi doughnut but taste more like a mochi bun. The dough is light and fluffy with just the right amount of mochi and fillings. We got the hojicha one which wasn't too sweet abd overpowering while having enough to satisfy your sweet cravings. The staff also very kindly offered us additional pastries with no additional charge as we were about to leave.
Overall super happy with the service and the quality of the food will defos be back. Thanks for having us Olsen bakehouse team!
(Mochi doughnut was too yummy, didn't manage to capture a pic)
I walked in to get a birthday cake for my friends. To my surprise, there are quite a few selections available, like Yuzu, Sesame, chocolate, Or Nee and Ondeh Ondeh. I picked the Ondeh ondeh flavor and the staff even offered to write my friend’s names on the cake. We all loved the taste of the cake, not too sweet and just right! I have tried many ondeh cakes and I think this is so far the best!
Thank you and will definitely drop by again.
I rarely like any “fancy” cake other than a classic Victoria Sponge. Olsen’s sticky date toffee bundt (seasonal) is pretty good (thanks to a friend’s recommendation). But better when eaten warm. Moist, delicately flavourful and not overly sweet. Besides the usual candle and knife, they even supplied their own branded matches?! A flair for details, beyond their cake.
Every part of this cake is perfect: from the super soft and yummy sponge cake, light yet subtly buttery cream, to the substantial filling - I love their cakes so much!!!!!!
I’ve had their Orh Nee cake and Pulut Hitam cakes, and I loved how both were packed with real flavour and you can really taste how home made the fillings were - not just some factory made jam! Also absolutely love the sponge cake - if they sold just the sponge cake by itself, i’m definitely buying it 😍😍😍
NOTE: take out only, no seating available. However, it is located under HDB flats and you can easily find a table with seats nearby. Rmb to bring your own cutlery!
I love the black forest (christmas special)!!! Please bring it back or have more intense choc flavours <3
Edit: The vegan banana cake is great too! Can’t tell it’s vegan.
The chocolate fudge cake texture wasn’t to my liking though, and the milo cake could use a stronger milo taste 🥲
It's a bakery, not a cafe. So there's no seating.
But the smell of the cakes fresh from the over waited through the air.
One service staff, but she was attentive and efficient.
I went in not knowing what to expect as they didn't have any display. But she showed me the cake slices they had in the fridge and I was in and out of there within 10 mins.
Cakes were simple in design, nothing fancy, but the taste was on point. Can easily tell they used quality ingredients.
The flavours were well crafted. Not overly over powering, subtle and yet flavourful.
Would definitely go back again to try their other products
amazing pizza squares! nice spacious bakehouse. otah cheese focaccia was surprisingly delightful! *cereal cookies we got was a hit too
Ordered a cake and the black sesame buns from Olsen, and both were great! They’re a bit pricey ($4/bun and $50+ for a pretty small cake), but well worth it coz they do use good quality ingredients. The black sesame buns were rich in flavour and very Q and fluffy, filled with mochi that’s incredibly soft. Black sesame is filling is also not too sweet. The staff here are also very friendly and helpful!
They went above and beyond in taking my order and helping with delivery. We ordered the Kopi Kaya Peanut Butter cake which was nice and just the right consistency (was initially afraid that it would be too dense). Would have liked to taste more of the kaya which we felt was a little overpowered by the peanut better. But overall still a very delicious cake.
Ordered this for my friend and I don’t regret getting the mango strawberry cake!! It’s so soft and flavourful 😚 the cake basically tastes like mango and the strawberry fillings inside are so refreshing! I was so full after having a heavy meal but I could still finish this cake. It’s not that sweet so you can find the real taste of strawberries, which is sweet and sour at the same time!! My friends who don’t like sweet stuff(like they do not even touch normal cakes) finished this!! And lastly it is so pretty. Totally satisfied with the cake. Thanks to the bakery for making a special day even more special 😍😍
Chanced by this cake boutique when walking to Haji area. The cakes are unique and taste lovely and flavorful. Bought the ondeh ondeh, orh nee and yuzu sesame chiffon cake slices ($7.50 ea). Definitely worth ordering or popping by to buy them if in the neighbourhood.
First we went in for some cakes and coffee. Found it delightful and ordered a birthday cake for my son. The family enjoyed the sesame yuzu birthday cake tremendously. Liked the fact they had a very warm message that came with it! Service was excellent. We felt at home!
Beautiful café and bakehouse with stunning baked goods and delicious Allpress coffee. The heart of the owners is evident at every turn!
These are some of the best cakes in the neighborhood and are absolutely 100% slept on. The ondeh ondeh is 10/10. Best eaten at room temperature so the buttercream icing has time to soften. The coffees are great too and comes with a little biscuit which is a great touch. ❤️
Came to buy their ondeh ondeh cake. Was not disappointed. We even had fun decorating the cake using the toppings provided by Olsen. The cake was very soft and not too sweet.
I'm not a fan of classic cakes with slim filling and minimalist frosting on top, but this bakery offers other items such as scones, which I decided to try one time.
The pair of scones I got was freshly made and had a light and fluffy texture, while still having a nice, not overly sweet flavor, making it a great option for a quick and tasty treat.
The staff was very friendly and eager to tell me everything about their bakes.
An all-day dining café, 11 Hamilton served contemporary Australian inspired menu with a Fusion twist. Space has an OSN vibe and can split into an event hall, great for birthday celebration etc.
The extensive brunch menu is served between 9am - 5pm, that it’s hard to decide what to have. Featured here are:
• Umami Mushroom ($16) grilled oyster & shiitake mushroom, fried enoki mushroom on sourdough. Add-on bacon sides
• Shakshuka ($16) baked egg in tomato bell stew with diced feta cheese, baked beans and dukkah
• Tomato Heirloom Salad ($18)
P.S: spotted their cute house-shaped high tea set when I’m there. But advance reservation is required so be sure to call ahead!
Ordered the kopi cake w Kaya and peanut butter for my husband's birthday. This cake was absolutely delicious! Encapsulated all the flavours of a yakun toast perfectly. The Kaya and peanut butter actually complemented each other very harmoniously. They had really good service too, and accommodated my request for a slightly earlier time. Highly highly recommend
Best place in Singapore for delicious cakes 🙂
I have tried a lot of cake places in Singapore but none are nearly as good as In the Brickyard. Their cakes are spongy, moist, not too sweet, simply delicious and affordable as well, even their customized ones. The best place to order your cakes for birthdays or celebrations and you will definitely not be disappointed.
Tried 3 cakes today from GB. My favourite is kopi kaya PB though I was contemplating to buy since I can eat my favourite butter kaya toast n kopi easily in singapore. However it stood out from the other 2 cakes I bought. Sesame yuzu is better than average but forgettable. Orh Nee is my least favourite though I love my usual orh nee dessert. Guess it is overpowered by the pandan cake. Overall they are all yummy cake and siew dai for my liking.
Bought the banana cake and orhni cake, love both of them. It wasn’t too sweet. Will be back to try more! 🤤
Cake that I had was really well-made. Sponge was still moist and flavours were balanced. Cream wasn't too sweet and cloying either. Great execution.
Pleasant owner (i believe she is olsen) and very willing to share information. Pls try the Orh Ni Cake and each cake is $60-80 and it is about right for artisan craftmanship.
I love the birthday cake that was prepared for me even though I ordered it at last minute.
Thank you for making my girlfriend's birthday memorable!
I tried the cakes. Honestly, no big deal, for the disproportionately high price points. The orh nee cake is so-so. The almond sugee cake is so rough in texture.
We love the cakes from olsen bake House. Thank you for creating light and nice cakes like this to indulge In. I'm planning for the next birthday cake in house to be an olsen bake House's cake. Time to treat my family. :)
Best Banana Cake so far
very welcoming!
Best ondeh ondeh cake in Singapore :) if you like ondeh ondeh cake this is the place you should order one. And very prompt what’s app reply, very friendly too. Thank you so much
Hojicha was good. The Cinnabon bun wasn’t fresh. Cheese bun was average.
Vegan cakes available!!!
Vegan dessert and mini bites available on the brunch menu.
Cozy and comfy.
Hidden gem in lavendar, their cake is simply delicious, not too sweet, and taste smooth, staff is very friendly as well, highly recommend their sesame yuzu cake 👍
Mochi bomb was big af, definitely didn't expect that. But it was dusted with cocoa so quite messy for consumption 😢 place is cosy and quaint!
Thoroughly enjoyed the cake.. just the right amount of sweetness. Will definitely be a frequent patron!
Fantastic flavourful bakes!
As they will advise, best eaten at room temperature!
Good cakes!
Friendly staff
Thoughtful cafe providing books and toys for those who want to have a cuppa and chill.
