Reviews of Pantler (Japanese French cakes and pastries / cafe)
I love pantler and have been here countless of times, almost on a weekly basis. You can tell by the number of different cakes I’ve tried here ❤️ (attached photos).
The signature vanilla roll cake is so delightfully airy and soft, I don’t know how they achieve that lightness! It is an exemplary portrayal of “Simple but Good”. Must try!
Black Forest cake is delicious - and also pretty boozy, which is great because I love having my alcoholic desserts come with a strong kick. The dark chocolate sponge was moist and soft, the chocolate cream was rich, and the cherries were generously soaked in kirsch. Everything came together perfectly in this classic Black Forest, it was rich in flavour yet didn’t feel heavy at the same time due to the light sponge, fresh cream and the boozy cherries. Pls try!
Choux pastry - reallly good, if not one of the best custard puffs around. Their little secret lies in the crunch nougatine bits inside - it definitely brings this simple dessert up a notch in terms of texture and flavour. The custard might taste heavy on first bite but subsequently you’ll find yourself finishing the whole puff easily 😂 so good.
The only bad thing about this place is the service. It lacks warmth. The staff looks like they can’t be bothered.
La France ($12.90) - good, juicy, thinly sliced pear which went well with the pastry and cream.
From earlier orders:
15cm 850g Strawberry Shortcake - Pretty good.
Tropical fruit tart - Hadn’t seen so many different types of fruits on a tart though not all were tropical fruits. The cream and tart base were good and went well with the fruits.
Cream puff - Good.
Flat white - Made with beans from local roaster Dutch Colony, had a chocolaty flavour that was a bit off - a bit sour and a bit bitter.
Japanese pastry chef really does an excellent work here.
Their items are pretty and tasty.
You can start with their signature Chou Creme. Outside is crisp and inside the cream is really smooth, fragrant and tasty.
Many choices!
The shop is not very big. Sometimes it could be full house.
Loved it. Excellent cakes - especially those two in my photos below (forgot the names). The cream puff, which looks quite ordinary, is actually fantastic too. The coffee isn't bad, but could be a lot better. Unfortunately the opening hours are quite limited or I would visit more often.
Been to Pantler a few times and I love the seasonal cakes and also coffee! The malay girl was friendly and knowledgeable with the cakes and provided recommendations. Will be back for their seasonal cakes for sure.
Huge Variety of Dessert. Lovely space to chill or work or study. I love the chou a la Creme. It has a nice choux pastry texture, lots of creme filling and a crispy filling. The flavours compliments each other without being overly sweet. I'm not usually a huge fan of dessert. But that was my favorite. Definitely coming back just for that.
Fill your weekend with the wonderful smells of cakes, bakes and coffee. @pantler has reopened on 20 February at River Valley with a bigger and spacious place.
There’s seats outside, middle section as the kitchen and bakes, but at the back it is split into two alcoves - a darker space and a bright white area.
Be greeted by an array of beautifully crafted cakes, which are available in slices and whole. Hard-pressed to choose, we ended up with three liquor-free cakes:
• Yatsura ($9.50), one of their signature, made of hazelnut dacquoise, dark chocolate ganache and crunchy hazelnut feuilletine.
• Citron Blanc ($9.50), Fromage Blanc with lemon confit.
• Nagomi ($9.50), our favourite of the trio. Fragrant Earl Grey Mousse accompanied by tangy bergamot and caramelised almonds
Overpriced pastries, at $10 for a small pop, even appreciating that this is meant to be artisanal, I was expecting more depth in flavour and textures with the pretty exterior. Creme brulee was good though, super smooth and great milky flavour. Worth it only with the ongoing promo though.
Update: Went to Pantler again on a Friday afternoon for desserts, this time at their new location. A much more airy and bright space which can accommodate more dine-in customers. Food quality is still as good as I had expected.
I had a very elegant looking strawberry tart, topped with smooth, light matcha cream. Popular among the Japanese community in Singapore.

Came here on a Saturday morning and the crowd had built up very quickly. Figaro was very well balanced and all the flavours amalgamated nicely. Vanilla creme and mascarpone was top quality and very smooth. Cake had just the right amount of moisture. The fruits too were amazing.
I also liked that the place was very clean, hygienic and the staff were all very polite. Loved the counter seats which gives you a nice view of Telok Ayer Street. Recommended and will be back for more.
Fantastic dessert. There aren't many places in SGthat serve good Mille-feuille pastry! Wonderful with the Vivaldi
Such a relaxing place. Plenty of seatings and nooks. Tried chai latte and coffee - potentially best barista in town - delish drinks.
Cakes, cookies, pastries every variety you need.
My friends bought a black forest cake for my birthday, and it was the best cake ever!
I love how generous they are with their ingredients, they soaked their dark cherries in alcohol. The alcohol is really intense and really great for black forest cake lovers.
Will definitely try their other cakes in future!
Love the coffee here and desserts. gets very packed during lunch hour so if you are looking for quiet spot to sit down for cuppa, it would be better to go after lunch. highly recommend the strawberry tart and love the Blackforest cake too!

Recommend: Yatsura and anything that looks gorgeous
.
Time for some sweets 🍰? Why not give their Signature Yatsura a try? Slim layer of gao gao chocolate liquid, damn sweet middle chocolate mousse that melts in your mouth, and the last crunchy hazelnut feuilletine to create the multi-layer experience (层次感) in every bite. Overall, a bit too sweet for an old boy trying hard to manage my diabetes risk.
.
👉Beautiful and gorgeous selection
👉Bakery with bold and artisan creations
👉Bigger seating with Japanese tranquil feel
.
Tried their iced mocha, you are better off having coffee at a specialist brew house. 😅
I received a slice of Yatsura cake as a gift. 1st time trying cake from Pantler. Read its rave reviews.
The cake was very rich and sweet. I like the base crust very much. Goes well with the sweet chocolate ganache. Best to share and eat this with strong unsweetened coffee unless you have a very sweet tooth.
Very nice and beautiful place. Relaxed and chill vibes.
Very adorable cafe with an amazing spread of desserts.. stumbled at which to order as so spoiled with choices..not overly sweet and could taste the original ingredients . the staff are very well mannered and to avoid misunderstanding, they will show you the cakes you chosen before closing the box... would return again for more..
Outstanding cakes. Strawberry shortcake tasting like the best pastries from Japan eg the unforgettable cake from Takefue. The Mont Blanc is also very very good rivaling those from Angelina or Laduree of Paris.
The desserts are sooo good I want to cry 🤣 So elegant-looking too. We had the Strawberry Shortcake, Tarte Tatin, Yatsura, the Pantler Roll and Galette Bretonne cookie (not pictured).
Each dessert was like its own experience!Strawberry Shortcake and Pantler Roll were so blissfully light, the Yatsura had a lovely balance of creamy dark chocolate and crunch from the hazelnut feuiletine layer. The Tarte Tatin is beautifully made and the caramalised apple is so good, though it can get too 'jelak' - it's a generous chunk of apple - so it's best to share it with someone. Not forgetting the Galette bretonne cookie!! It was such a buttery crumbly delight 🤤
If I was a rich tai-tai instead of a broke pastry student I'd get cakes from them every time haha! Will come back again if there's a chance to!
Tried the Monarch and Yatsura cake, both are nice. But the Yatsura doesn’t have a rich chocolate taste, it has more crunch at the base. Personally prefer Monarch because it is more chocolatey. Both are not too sweet. Coffee machine closed at 5pm.
The cakes are so aesthetically pleasing and the shop in River Valley is a great place to have dessert and coffee. It would be perfect if the sweetness of the cakes are reduced, I would buy them more often for friends and family.
I would recommend Yatsura and whole roll it's fluffy and light please please cut down on the sugar level lol
Love this place - wide selection of cakes and its cosy atmosphere. The afternoon was well spent, with a taste of yatsura cake matching with latte.
Their whipped cream is the best. Not only cakes but baked sweets are also great!
Tried their mikan seasonal items, setoka pie and verrine, prefer the pie more. The mikan sourness goes well with the sweet crispy pie, very nice. The verrine pretty normal and abit too sweet for my liking.
I cannot begin to describe how glad I was to get the last yatsura (they said to the person after me they were making more though—I'm just glad I didn't have to wait). The person working was very nice and recommended the yatsura (it's almost like a piece of chocolate cake, but is mostly chocolate ganache and also has hazelnut in it) and the berry cheese (essentially a berry mousse). Both items were AMAZING. The yatsura had a slight crunch on the bottom of it, but then was soft throughout. It was chocolatey and rich, but not too too rich. I devoured it quickly. The berry cheese was also really good. The berries on top tasted fresh and the mousse itself was light and fluffy—exactly what I was looking for. Take a look at the picture, but note that I did take a bite of the yatsura before remembering to take the pic :)
What a great place for dessert! Excellent desserts, very delicate, creative & well balanced. Highly recommended for everyone.
Japanese cakes are delicious. Though some cakes need improvement but the good ones are really the best out here in this island!
I went this cafe when raining day. Caffucino and cake is awesome! It was hearing tasty and time to me♥️
Nice cosy place for catching up.
Price is on the higher side.
Lots of cakes selection.
Amazing pastries. It’s my second time buying and the Mille-feuille is still as amazing as ever. Best ever in singapore.
Beetroot soy latte which is organic. It'll go well with the variety of cakes they have to offer! (Didn't have the space for dessert for visual pairing)
They have batches of cakes rolling out at the counter side so any point of time they will not run out of cakes :)
My favorite pastry cafe in Singapore. Good variety of desserts, quality and service are great. Pity that they moved to River Valley area, but it still worth going there.
Had a wonderful dessert time here & received excellent services especially from Gary (such a sweet guy) always with smiling face. Rynee was very helpful & had been taking care of our table as well ! Will definitely come back soon.
pretty amazing place found by a mistake walking around Singapore. their variety of cakes is amazing and they all looks like WOW! wanted to eat them all.
Their signature Chou creme is a must-try. Probably the best in Singapore. But don't get too greedy. One is more than enough. A quiet cafe my wife and I stop-by to recharge after shopping in downtown area. Love the plants collection. 5 stars just for Chou, but rest of them are just ok.
Cosy dessert cafe. Highly recommend the chou a la creme.
Very nice & delicious cakes.
Very very good (and pricey) cakes and pastries. Ask for the specialities. The drinks menu is good as well (comes from Dutch colony coffee). Limited seating available though, but you can always choose to bring the goodies back home.
Got the Mont Blanc and Mille Feuille. Nice aesthetics, IG-worthy.
Would say that the Mont Blanc was quite heavy. The more I ate the more I wanna stop hahaha thank goodness sharing it with a friend. Might be better if we ordered tea.
Mille feuille was nice! Love the light sweetness from the pastry
The environment was quite distracting. The store was rather small, so the noise level is high when it’s full house.
Will go back again to try since it’s kinda highly recommended, but alone and on quieter day.
What happened to you, old friend? While the bakes and coffee have remained consistently delightful (loved the choux puff), I can't say that for the decor and overall image of the brand.
The white washed interior was underwhelming and uninspiring. Seats were uncomfortable and tightly arranged like a eat-and-go setup. Certainly does not reflect the premium price tag of your goods.
Where's the modern, classy Pantler that I used to know? Sigh...
Very busy bakery with good selection of cakes. Took away 2 of the chocolate cakes and they were really good. Tasty without being overly sweet. Definitely going back again to try other cakes
Made the right decision to order Pantler cheese cake for my mum! It delivers as described. Not too light nor too dense. Delicately balanced between the japanese & american version. Thanks for making my mum delighted on Mother's Day!
Came here just before lunch. The shop was fairly empty at 11:30 which made it nice to sit down for a bit of work and catching up on emails. Coffee is good, and I enjoyed a yummy Cajun chicken sandwich which came in a set for SGD 12++. Downside is that the chairs are not super comfy and they don't offer free wifi which probably explains why there are not so many people. If you have your own hotspot through your mobile it makes for a good alternative to the overcrowded coffee shops like Starbucks or Costa. Over lunchtime towards 12:30 the place filled up and it got very busy.
Great confectionery! Got a chocolate delice and earl grey tea and it was delice-ious! Tea came in a huge pot tasted good though it was brewed from a tea bag rather than loose leaves. Great place for chit chat or chilling
Tried two cakes from here today - the dark chocolate delice and Figaro - both were to die for! Possibly the best cake shop in Singapore, in my experience.
Cakes to die for. Coffee not bad, though cup a bit teeny...
Pantler is an all-time favourite cake/pastry shop! The chou a la creme is the best! The nougatines add texture and crunch to the smooth milky cream.
Dessert wonderland in the CBD with their range of delightful pastries and cakes.
Must try: The Yatsura
For anyone who likes chocolate or hazelnut, a dark chocolate ganache sits atop layers of chocolate mousse and crunchy hazelnut feuilletine.
Such great comfort food prettily stacked in the shop. Go have a feast for your eyes and then savour its sweet dessert in the comfort of your home.
My all time favorite cake shop. Love the black forest cake and the roll cake!
Lovely little place, I had a chai latte - delicious and a sandwich. I should have tasted their cakes or pastries as they looked absolutely awesome.
Had the breakfast set at $7. Mediocre coffee and croissant. There's no wifi here, a big downer. Would expect wifi to be a staple at cafes now, guess I'm wrong!
Went there once but didnt try their drinks. Their cakes are so pretty & definitely special in taste!
How delightful to have this cafe in my neighborhood🥰
The cream puff is scrumptious, chock-full of delicious cream! Not too sweet too! 👍
I like their variety of cakes. It's just the right sweetness. Their mango cake is good!
Sweet sweets, nice place for a cup of tea and relax
Very good quality pastries and cakes. Roll cake is a must try!
OMGEEEEE. The chou puff is so thick and creamy!!! Will keep buying.
so many to pick from
Good coffee and selection of dessert
Owned by a Japanese pastry chef. This restaurant is highly praised by my French friend who lives in Singapore. It is said that there are long lines every year around Christmas time, but it was understandable. You can also eat cakes inside the store.
A wonderful cake cafe 🍰☕️ has opened near my house 🥰
First, I bought a fruit tart and cream puff ✨
It's not too sweet and suits the Japanese palate, and it's as delicious as it's rumored to be 😸💓
Not only the cakes but also the drinks are delicious. After moving, the white-based shop is bright and clean.
Great pastries - top quality but very expensive…
Everything looked delicious and I had a hard time deciding. I ended up ordering two cream puffs and a chocolate cake, but I ate them all in one go! I want to go again.
