Reviews of Asylum Coffeehouse
Great cup of bitter and smooth flat white. The mocha was disappointing tho, the choice of chocolate powder was overpowering the coffee. Tho kudos to the staff who were kind enough to add a shot of espresso. Pretty steep price of $8 per cup. But cosy ambience to chat and people watch
Got a takeout iced white. It was decent. Although crowded, the ordering and subsequent collection of drinks were seamless. Would visit again
Perfect spot to chill and have a nice drink to beat the heat. Their artisanal coffee and teas are pretty exceptional, and their iced mocha (i recommend soymilk!) is really rich and delicious. I also tried the ‘Charm Of Buddha Palm’ iced tea and it was pretty refreshing, with vanilla aroma and slight fruity notes. I even received a refill!
The ambience and vibes are peaceful, chill and relaxing despite the small size. I like that they give complimentary water too! I definitely recommend stopping by 👍
food 5/5
service 5/5
ambience 5/5
In love with Asylum's Keluak blend for my white, where chocolate, caramel, and roasted nuts meet a delicate floral finish. Affable staff and a nice place to chill.
Really really good coffee. So smooth and balanced yet strong. Loved it, the atmosphere and the friendliness of the baristas
Chill vibes, flat white was good. Mocha was meh.

🖤 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐢 𝐒𝟕𝟗𝟓 & 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚 - $9
These natural anaerobic beans had notes of blueberries and black grapes as mentioned, with a slight astringency, similar to that of grape skins. However, we couldn’t really taste the mango notes, both while the coffee was as hot and cooled.
🤍 𝗪𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 (𝟖𝐨𝐳) - $6.50
Made with their Keluak blend, an Asylum signature. I usually like darker blends for my white coffees as they bring with them chocolatey, caramelly and nutty notes that I love. Definitely enjoyed this one!
Great coffee, I had a 5oz white this time, very smooth flavour and served in proper ceramic mug so retains its warmth ...the pulled pork sandwich was very tasty ..the pasta/noodle content and coleslaw was good touch. The place is very bright located on corner of a busy street but quiet inside. Will come back to try a proper filtered coffee next time ...maybe try a cake too!
Good coffee, just a tiny tad bitter.
Service was great, friendly people behind the counter.
Outdoor seating was great when it’s not scorching hot. But the seats are a little shaky.
Would try the food offerings next time - sour dough sandwich looks lovely!
Visited Asylum at Wisma Atria their newly open coffee library. They have popular cold brews which comes in 4 flavours, Black, White, Gula Melaka and Toffee. Taste very smooth and not too sweet. They also have ice cream which is popular for their Japanese jelly and mochi which is called Ugly Cones. Inspired by Japanese flagship store, with their savoury cones in it too
What a wonderful little find! I was given a delightful yet comprehensive explanation of the menu after I admitted I was a first timer, and the barista even made a recommendation regarding which pastry would best compliment my iced mocha. Indeed, the banana cinnamon danish was truly incredible - even better than pastries I've had in Paris and Copenhagen! I will certainly be back before my trip is over!
really was not a fan of the coffee :”) pretty disappointing as the reviews are so good, but i found it too acidic for me personally. might need to try a different drink next time. i also seemed to be the only person who’s drink was separating, like the milk wouldn’t mix with the coffee well. but the staff are lovely and the interior is nice albeit small
Small but delightfully bright coffee shop at the corner of Jl. Besar. Small menu but very thoughtfully brewed coffee and related espresso drinks. Small selection of pastries to go with your drink. Indoor seating for 10-12 plus a few small tables & chairs outside. Cash, credit card and probably e-wallet payments accepted.
If you have high ideas about coffee this seems like a place for you. Even if you don't (like me) you'll be able to enjoy a good mocha or other selection.
Coffee itself was very good.
The cafe is really small, with poor acoustics and loud music - not the best place to read. I came at 2pm and it was rather crowded and the wait time was rather long.
I’d opt for a take away during a non-peak hour if I’m ever in the area.
Small coffee place that serves great coffee.
Love their in-house blend, keluak.
Nutty taste matches very well with milk for flat white.
The barista is also good in explaining their blend, wanted every customer to have great coffee experience.
Sandwich taste good, but price is slightly steep.
Overall the coffee is really great, would recommend and come again
Absurdities was a really fun experience. The staffs were very energetic and made it a wonderful memory. The cereal chicken pot pie and purple squid risotto were delicious. The only downside was having the jelly and prosecco at the end which made it quite heavy on the stomach. Nonetheless, the session was great and having the cards both as puzzle pieces and ingredient lists was a creative and cool idea.
Along Jalan Besar, minimalist decor .
What is impressive is the passion of the Barista. Had the latte zero, shot of espresso coffee but texture was similar to latte .
Discovered this cafe recently and definitely one of my favourite in Singapore! Simple bright decor in a small intimate space. I love a darker roast so their house blend, Keluak, is my cup of tea!
Great experience at asylum coffeehouse! Shoutout to Jerry, ah loi and Pwin. Enjoyed the Castillo beans, great vibes and hospitality! We will definitely be back again
With an absurdly high rating, and the fact that it was only a few minutes walk from our hotel, it was hard to bypass Asylum altogether. Besides, the missus had a terrible habit of only trying places rated 4.5 or above when we visited Singapore. I guess she's got high standards, which is why we're dating.
The 4.7 of Asylum is justified and would probably stay like that for a while. The coffee is solid and fruity with a right hit of acid. The quiche was good. The service was friendly, the playlist is shazamable. Shame that it closes early.
Probably a good place to go on a first date, like the couple next to us who just met for the first time via Tinder and seems to be going alright. The coffee and pastry might have helped.
Five stars for how well the lone barista manning the shop handled the influx of customers on the day we visited. I really appreciate that he told us the expected serving time and that he was overwhelmed with orders, rather than keeping quiet — thought this was very professional. The white was good, cold brew was also good. There are not many seats but it was reasonably empty that Saturday morning. I would return if I were around the Jalan Besar area (it’s a little out of the way!).
Hidden away in the depths of a shadowy coffeehouse lies a dining experience that defies convention. 10q @absurditiessg.
Absurdities is not your ordinary Omakase - it is a multi-sensorial journey that requires guests to traverse a labyrinth of rooms to reach their food. Diners are treated to six strange and otherworldly dishes that will leave their senses dazed.
The Garden In A Bowl, a vegetarian starter, tantalizes with roasted vegetables, fresh berries, buckwheat, nasturtium, and sorrel, perfectly paired Garden Sun Wine.
The second course, Burger And Ash, beckons with its brioche buns stuffed with shredded oyster mushroom, charcoal tapioca, olive ash, and jackfruit, accompanied by crispy charcoal tapioca fries with a smoky fragrance. Mama's Famous Cereal Chicken Pot Pie invites guests to pour the "milk" - a creamy cauliflower puree - over the dish before devouring it. The Mortar Purple Squid Risotto, infused with purple carrots, celeriac, uni, and parmesan crumble, boasts isomalt lime glass toppings that must be shattered into small pieces before they are mixed into the dish.
The Middle Eastern-inspired pan-fried white fish with Pomegranate Taboulleh is a delicacy that is worth every penny spent. The succulent fish is paired perfectly with the fresh and tangy Pomegranate Taboulleh, leaving a mouth-watering sensation in every bite.
Finally, your First Class seat to a Gold Leaf Jelly Telephone dazzles with its lychee jelly shaped like an antique phone, adorned with 24-carat gold leaf, French elderflowers, verjus rouge, and Bombay Sapphire. The attention to detail in every aspect of Absurdities, from the decor to the service, is evident, making for an extraordinary and unforgettable dining experience
Asylum Coffeehouse truly prioritizes ‘Coffee first, Service first’. With their slogan "home away from home" they create a welcoming space for guests to escape the busy world.
Their passion for their roasters and every cup of coffee is evident in each sip. The staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable, ensuring a memorable coffee experience. Whether you're a coffee lover or simply looking for a delicious cup, Asylum Coffeehouse is a must-visit destination.
Coffee with special house brew is excellent but >15 mins wait for a simple heating up of a chicken pie with "forgotten order" reason spoiled the coffee session unfortunately and kinda unacceptable even when Cafe is busy. Overall cafe ambience is good. Unlikely to visit again..
This is a place for real coffee enthusiasts (and even noobs like me) for exceptional drinks.
My husband (the enthusiast) and I (the noob) found this place and we were astonished about the precision and the passion the baristas put into a cup of coffee or even any other drink.
I ordered a Hojicha Latte, which was very tasty, and my husband got a pour-over of Castillo. He was so satisfied that he nearly shed a tear (and he is super picky). Coffee was well-extracted, smell and taste were just as described on the aroma card.
staff are definitely experts in this field! Plus the beans are even self-roasted!
the atmosphere is friendly, calm and chill- just like the name of the café. Whether you just want a quiet coffee or a nice talk w/ your friend/ significant other/ the team - it is definitely worth a visit or even more. We tried several drinks already and it was a blast each time.
Try visiting during weekdays as weekends tend to be quite crowded.
10/10 place and absolutely worth the money.
One of the best coffee places in town . A good cup of coffee at reasonable price.
Flat white (hot, whole milk) was an almost perfect cuppa. Well rounded with a hint of caramel and nuttiness, perfect temp, no sour taste .
Been here a few times. Place has a chill vibe , pretty homey despite white minimalist decor and a great song playlist. Barista and service staff are friendly. I like it better during weekdays when it isn’t crowded (they have limited seating)
Went there for a simple white coffee, and was given a card to know more about the beans behind my coffee. Lovely baristas, though the space is small, it gave a chill vibe as the cafe faces the road and you can people watch. They sell coffee beans too, would come by to try if I’m in the area. Thanks!
Love this place. Beautiful coffee. Depth of flavour and acidic bean profile, and some delicious pour over options, like the experimental coffee roasted together with lychees. Keep up the great work team!
Had a beautiful time at Asylum! The coffee was amazing, affordably priced and the person serving me was so friendly and genuine. The space was clean and beautiful. Would come back again!
AMAZING coffee. Cosy place and lovely barista. We ordered white and oat white. I loved my coffee so much I ordered another cup to go. Will highly recommend 👍🏻
Newly opened. Unfortunate that it coincided with dining in restrictions. Very friendly baristas. 5oz white is very smooth and packs a nice kick with 2 shot espresso. Super chocolatey blend - one would even think they added in some dark chocolate. Love it.
It’s pretty neat that the depth of the shophouse transforms into an eccentric theme restaurant at night. Portions are huge and super filling too. ✌🏽
Not posting too much so not much spoilers lol
Good service and good coffee but location has nothing special. Bit pricey for just coffee in the area. Why not if you live nearby and have the budget.
The keluwak coffee is marvelous.
The croissant was pleasantly salty and buttery, almost melt in your mouth tender.
Will recommend to try when you are in the area.
Quiet cafe to chill on a sunday afternoon. Choose from either indoor or outdoors. Decent cold brew which comprise Keluak espresso blend.
The coffee is good. Barista very friendly. So warm ambience. Pet friendly.
Trying their signature, keluwak coffee. The taste is very unique. Not too bitter nor sour. Perfect taste because it blended so well. packed the beans and bring it back to Jakarta.
Barista is very warm, and they give very nice words in the cup sleeve. The space not too big that make it very comfortable.
Incredible hospitality and excellent coffee (kudos to the baristas!)
If you want to explore how coffee can taste beyond bitter and sour, try their hand brew coffee (Castillo & Gesha in particular).
Take a seat at the bar and chit-chat with the baristas to even understand more of the background from the various coffees 👍
Strong iced whites! Their space is very quaint- a convenient escape from the sun. Bonus: their papers straws are super cute.
Great coffee, very nice staff. I highly recommend Asylum Coffehouse.
A great place for a coffee. Interesting name for a coffee place, Asylum. Decorations looks like you are in an Escape Room. Creative imaginations.
Awesome awesome experience! Friendly barista, 6 stars if I could! Got to know more about the profile of the blends and also the half science behind bubble size affecting flavour profile of the coffee! :)
Will be back for the coffee, and the stories!
Good coffee iced pour over
Really helpful staff 👍
Came here for breakfast one day. I loved the coffee here. The beans are truly one of a kind. A good morning place if not for the sun, though the staff were friendly enough to offer to lower the blinds.
Small lil cafe that serves lovely cups of coffee with their own signature blend “Keluak”. Limited seating indoors but if weathers good, outdoor seats are available too
Their “angel stain” double ristretto is wonderfully serious - you’ll taste notes that you’d never expect from coffee! (To me, it has a bit of a copper/blood taste.) Latte is excellent too. The pastries are also quite good, and not as overpriced as you’d expect for a place like this.
Aug 2023: nice space with ample space for patrons. The different doors are intriguing - we think A is the toilet and S is a storeroom.. visit Asylum and see for yourself! I ordered a hojicha tea and saw they put in 3 spoons of sugar (!) a bit much. I should have asked for Hojicha “O”.
I'd say this is the best artisan coffee in town. The barista is friendly & passionately brewing the coffee. If you like real coffee, made with heart, then this is the place for you.
Good flat white, like that it comes with 2 shots. Take time to enjoy the mug, it’s handmade by Mud Rock Ceramics.
Saf is the most hospitable person you get meet, pairing his knowledge, friendliness and coffee…. This place deserves a 6/5.
Interesting cozy shop. Can chill, relax and see people walking passed. Mocha is really nice!
Nice coffee and friendly staffs. Love the drips. Just lack of seatings
Great place. They put a lot of love in their coffee and food
great service and atmosphere! love the matcha latte here👍👍
Seriously good coffee! Fun staff. Aesthetic place. Highly recommended!
Coffee: amazing
Service: very good, knowledgeable staff
Food: meh. I had the Korean chicken wrap, maybe the other stuff is better
Vibe: quite noisy, seems like lots of parents bring their screaming toddlers here who treat the place like a playground. Would be good on a quiet day though.
Cosy coffee place with good vibes and unique coffee taste. Staff was very friendly too :)
Great range of coffee beans with friendly barista.
Dropped by this coffee house with my friends after gym and I’m glad I did. Saf is really knowledgeable with coffee. We tried different brewing methods and damn, it was good! His friendly demeanour made the experience a whole lot better!
Great coffee with friendly staffs that introduced us to their coffee and had great chats! Look for Saaf!
The sandwiches were yummy and super filling, and I enjoyed the coffee! Service was great too!
One of my fave coffee places. I really like their buah keluak blend. Came back recently for a takeaway and I was served a glass of cold water by a young lady while I was waiting (and the barista was chatting). It was a small glass but I was really thankful since it was such a hot day. People here are passionate about their coffee and they will take time to chat with you. However, I would appreciate it that they would prioritize making the orders first when there are customers waiting.
Had to give a review after being there a few times and having enjoyed their pourovers immensely. Great unique beans with a lot of character. Perfect for people who are into funky tastes like me
Coffee run after yoga! First time trying Asylum after a friend recommended.
One of the barista actually took time to ask if it was my first time here & went on explaining the beans they used and the story / name behind it! Rarely find such engagement this days!
Enjoyed the coffee, and will be back for more!
Nice clean decor and friendly staff. Think the temperature of the white was too high and borderline burnt taste
Just yum. Nice hot choc and gorgeous hojicha.
Cool dinner!! Amazing experience, good for a birthday date
Asylum Coffee
Quaint coffee shop serving pastries, sandwiches and smooth coffee brews just off the Jalan Besar area.
The Damage: S$30-40 for two

Love the coffee and the chicken pie and sandwiches. The staff is the nicest as well 😌
Hojicha latte, drip coffee
Very friendly. When ordering drip coffee, I chose basic coffee beans instead of specialty coffee beans, and the staff gave me another cup.
The basic coffee beans were delicious enough, but the coffee made with castillo beans was said to have a fruity taste. It felt like I was drinking a beverage. The hojicha latte was savory and not sweet, and instead of just mixing the hojicha powder with milk, they stirred it with a whisk to make real tea. It was very delicious.
Willing to visit again 🙆🏻♀️
A very interestingly decorated little shop!
The hojicha latte is delicious and I like it so much. The angel stain is so cute😅It’s so fun and I’m refreshed all afternoon👍🏻
There are very few food choices. I tried two pull pork ciabatta. The roasted chicken sourdough was good. The roasted chicken sourdough was a bit dry.
It’s perfect if you’re just here for coffee!
Seating is limited so you won't be able to stay long, but the coffee is really delicious. My colleague also seems to come here often and recommended it to me. The slight bitterness of the flat white is irresistible. The interior has a minimalist and clean atmosphere. This was my first time using the restroom, and I was surprised to find that there was a spacious and clean restroom at the back of the store!
Specialty coffee.. My order was a flat white and it was very excellent, but it would be warm if it was hot. Tell them.. and I had an apple pie with cinnamon and it was delicious.
Apple cinnamon danish
The service is very good and the staff are friendly. The place is small but clear, and it has one shared bathroom
Simple little shop
In addition to indoor seating, there is also a row of tables and chairs outside
Not many items are sold in the store
But you can choose beans
The equipment is very expensive to use (laughs)
I chose a glass of hand brew to make it ice cold.
I was shocked by the price
About 10%~20% more expensive than Taipei
Coffee tastes bright with acidity
The overall flavor layering is obvious
It’s a very high-quality cup of coffee
It's expensive because it's Singapore, but the quality is similar to that of famous Korean cafes.
If you want to have a thick latte after a long time, go here.
Fantastic, surprising, unimaginable, different from anything I've ever seen and experienced. Enchanted
Cozy little corner along Jln Besar
