Reviews of J99 Eating House
At this coffee shop, you can expect a bustling and cramped environment during lunch hours on weekdays. The seating arrangements are rather squeezy, with tables placed closely together, making it a challenge to find seats during peak hours. Despite the packed atmosphere, the coffee shop offers a wide variety of cuisines, making it a great spot for groups with varying food preferences.
If you're in the mood for Thai food, the pad thai is worth a try, with soft and wet noodles, although the peanut toppings could have been fresher. On one occasion, I ordered the dish and was disappointed to learn that they had run out of lemon/lime only after it was served. The rice dishes are also decent and come at an affordable price point.
For a decently good and cheap option, the prawn noodle and fishball noodle are good choices. The ming jiang kueh is also a must-try, with soft and steaming hot pancakes that are delicious, especially with the peanut flavour. And at such an affordable price, it's hard to resist.
The wanton mee is another popular choice, with springy noodles that aren't too mushy, and decent wanton and char siew. However, it is quite expensive compared to other options. The chicken rice is worth a mention too. It's not bad, a decent option that won't break the bank, although the price has recently increased.
Overall, while the coffee shop may be crowded and the seating arrangement tight, the diverse range of cuisines and affordable prices make it a popular spot for lunch.
This coffee shop has the most mix of nices food in TPY central.
This portion of prawn Mee is decent for $4. Bean sprouts add texture to the dish. The sauce and soup is tasty.
Would recommend to upside for more ingredients. Overall a good experience.
Known for the succulent roast chicken rice and ban mian, this coffee shop has been a mainstay of modern Toa Payoh. Located right beside Courts, you will find this place crowded on most weekday lunch hours. Come early to avoid the crowds. For roast chicken fans, order the half chicken to share between 2-3 pax and try their chicken livers. The chilli and dark soy sauce are a must add. I will skip the ban mian and order the dry yee mian with a top up of more minced meat. Ask for the egg to be added to the complimentary soup instead of in the dry noodles.

A lot of customers everyday...
But like every 2 mths. 1 stall closes down.

Nice chicken rice....
But that is about it.
The food here is good... Especially the Ban mian and chicken rice..
Both is cheap and good.
But I guess the rental is damm expensive...
The rest of the stalls can't seems to survive..
I check with the ban mian before... Their rental is close to 10k a mth.
Hope they can survive ! I been eating at this shop for a long time...
A Must Try! One of my favourite chicken rice stall now.
Decent bowl of ban mian, one of e rare place that hav dry version.
Ban mian is good. Option of dry or soup. Can add fish slices. And/or mince pork
Ming jiang kueh (peanut pancakes) in peanuts, red bean and coconut are served piping hot here. Muah chee and popiah is tasty too. Must try!
Prawn noodles stall here is a gem. Get the dry version. 10/10. Slightly different from others. Only down point here is the cramped seating area due to the Coffeeshop maximising its tables. Be careful trying to squeeze your way thru the tables with a plate of hot soup, don’t end up spilling your lunch on someone else or worse, being spilled on!
Not bad, price is very resonable $.... Seems like PONTi@N signature signboard.
Thai Station 42 is must try place here. We tried Tom Yum Soup & Garlic Chicken Rice here. Tom Yum Soup tasted very good, proper tangy and chilli powder was authentic Thai and Spicy. Garlic Chicken was average. Staff was very friendly and spoke about their business, customer rush etc
All the food here is good! I recommend the fish slice noodle stall/ban mian. Portions are very generous and value for money.
Place can get quite cramped during peak hours.
Ban mian here is good - dry or soup. There's also chicken rice. Ice lemon tea not great, not recommended.
A lil bit hot at noon, food wise is great👍
Raining cat and dog. 2 hours stuck at coffee shop drank 5 cups of coffee ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭
Have nice food there. I like the handmade noodle stall. The portion is big @ $4 each.
Try the dried ban mian here. Loads of vegetables.
The best Ban Mian! Generous portions, friendly service and consistently delicious. Must try! Does get busy at lunch times.
Western food is good. Had Thai here which recently opened. Delicious and affordable.
The stars are for the chicken rice. Food delicious but attitude not so nice, as the workers are only concerned about how fast the food sold.
