Reviews of Jia Yuen Eating House
Long queue during lunch hour but it can be fast. Have several base option and we chose Tom yum and Laksa. Ironically I actually liked that the soup are not to heavy as they put in some clear soup, so I can still enjoy my ingredients
Also great that they don’t require minimum order. Their fried stuff though is highly recommended! Sinful but so good
The ingredients available are quite little compared to other typical YTF places, hope there are more options in the future! I will come again :)
This is a very laid back coffee shop . I had doubts of the food when I first get here . It's fully run by PRC nation. I'm not against them but statistics and experience had no good results when they are at helm making local dishes . However I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of the salted egg buttermilk chicken and the buttermilk chicken . However both taste rather similar with the salted egg with more anchoring base taste . Set meal price is rather steep for a coffee shop at 10up for a rice with sunny side up and a main dish all in a plate . Nevertheless the portion is worth it. The other two dishes I tried is the fermented pork belly and French bean fried with sambal chilli . Both are average but as usual portion is huge.
Overall the ambience of the place is good , really chill and laid back location . For food wise is a one trick pony that is worth a return visit .
Hidden away in B1 of some mall like complex, the Jia Yuen eating house is quite peaceful around 5pm,
I ORDERED CREAMY SALTED EGG CHICKEN RICE and coke for 8+1.70 dollars, it was not bad, the curry leaves are fragrant but I would've requested more chilli for a better kick, the rice is done well but the egg was slightly overcooked.
PORTION was good though, I'm 171 80 kg and I am quite full after finishing. Seems a bit expensive compared to thier old 5.50 price i read about but understandable after inflation
They also have YONG TAU FU which I didn't try haha
Food was superb
Prawn paste chicken is diced good meat and skin ratio fragrance and crispy even after 30min+
Creamy butter pork spiciness balance the dish overall well won't feel cloy
Hor fun not their speciality but was not bad but needs more wok hei
Boss was super friendly keep sharing with us what combi of sause is best to go with what meat.
Great dinning experience will definitely be back again
I enjoyed the salted egg chicken, fresh out of the boiling wok. So it’s deep fried chicken in a creamy salted egg sauce. It’s pretty good in my opinion. Should have ordered two eggs too.. rice didn’t seem like it was hot and fresh though. But other than that, it was pretty tasty!
Order their salted egg buttermilk chicken ($8) for takeaway. I can say is very worth it, lots of rice and meat. Had a hard time finishing it because of its big portion. Definitely worth the try. Seller from the stall was friendly. Would come back again, but will share it with somebody next time.
5-star for service, 4-star for food quality.
Came here on a Saturday evening and the shop was ran only by a young-ish male.
Superb service made up for the waiting time (7 pax but we ordered quite a lot and he single-handedly cooked up the feast).
He was patient in taking orders, not showing any signs of displeasure when we triple-checked the order. Service with a smile throughout, even when collecting payment and asking for feedback on how the vegetables were cooked. Despite doing this alone and in a quiet place on a Saturday evening, he definitely displays excellence and joy in his duties.
I am quite a fan of salted egg chicken - so this is worth the price and travelling. Gravy is excellent not too gelat-thick and well spiced. Chicken can be improved: some were nicely tender, while a few pieces were hard. Tried other dishes like sweet sour pork, sweet sour fish. A common favourite amongst my friends was the cereal chicken.
Overall an enjoyable experience, and I left feeling inspired by an earnest man working hard whilst displaying joy and service with a smile.
They have increased the prices a lot since I first started ordering from them. The salt egg milk chicken used to be $5 a packet with egg and it has slowly crept up to being $8 over a period of 4 years.
The signature salted egg milk chicken is good! However i would recommend you only order this as the other food items are not worth their price.
Service during peak was VERY slow.. it took close to an hour to bring our food to us. Probably would be better if u called the uncle to deliver to your house and avoid waiting at the shop.
Nostalgic food from my army days. Would recommend you to at least try it once.
The creamy salted egg was really really creamy, we couldnt finish.
Normal salted egg fried rice was good.
P.S. $8 still too pricey for a kopitiam styled food eatery, even though the portions is good.
Experience salted egg chicken like no other.
$8 per plate, generous portions (enough for 2 small stomach) Can add an additional $4 for double portion of meat.
There is delivery services!
This review comes late as I have been eating their salted egg yolk chicken for many many many years until they moved to the mrt.
I must say their salted egg yolk chicken is pure heaven, and brings me an indescribable sense of relaxation and joy every time I eat it.
The taste is strong and tasty, and it’s served hot. The chicken has solid taste as it absorbs the creamy taste well, blending in with the rice. The fried egg is also well cooked.
Can be quite heavy so I limit to once a week when it was just outside my house. Now that it’s located further away, I still come once in a while.
Uncle Johnny also takes pride in taking care of his customers. Amazing man.
Best salted egg butter milk chicken I ever had. $8 for a big portion.
Tried the creamy butter chicken. Gravy is good. Chicken felt like rubber... Real workout for my jaw
Fish Creamy Salted Egg. The food was so good. But the boss cannot speak English or Singlish well.
Portion isn't as big as it used to be and they give much less cream for the creamy salted egg yolk chicken. Chicken has some rubbery bits too which is kind of weird. Still tastes decent but used to be better
Standard dropped from what I last remember. Prices quite steep for a 1 meat dish with a fried egg (egg was over cooked. Not runny).
If you're craving this dish. Better off eating at the famous one at far east or sim lim.
A hidden jem found in one of the crevices of Joo Chiat Road.
Jia Yuen offers delivery and catering. The price paid for the salted egg yolk chicken rice was more than worthy (due to the portion and especially the taste)! Their famous dish is xian dan nai you ji fan but the rest of what they offer is as nice too!
Nice corner coffeeshop but the prices for a cup of tea is $1 50..this got to be one of the most expensive tea from a local kopitiam
Amazing food, especially the Salted Egg Butter Chicken (must try).
Does islandwide delivery as well!
Large menu with many variety to choose from.
Awesome zichar place with islandwide delivery.
Creamy salted egg chicken (with or without cereal) is seriously good!
sooooooooo goooddd also the portion was so biggg
The sauce was incredible for their signature salted-egg pork/chicken. However, the meat could have been cooked better.
nice la but dun order the mai pian (cereal) $2 not worth. $8 okla abit expensive but its the best salted egg buttermilk ive eaten
Best dish is the asked egg creamy chicken. just avoid the egg with the plain rice if u don't want egg. it may come together
Best buttermilk salted egg yolk chicken rice in Singapore. Get it with a bit of cereal. Life changing
Limited outlets. Used to have a fairly decent Indian stall. There is a noodle stall which opens early.
Super yummy salted egg chicken! 😜 must try, but it slightly on the expensive side..
It's nice but pricey. Also certain items may require a significant waiting time.
Wasnt really worth the money
Opened from 12pm onwards. Only has 01chef and a helper for the stall. Long wait
