Reviews of Old Hen Kitchen
simple, comforting and delightful brunch. we had their special rostis and we are definitely coming back for more rostis!
our eggs, cured meats and smashed avocados were perfectly cooked.
environment was cosy. entrance seating area are all tall chairs. served by a few youthful crews. great service.
I loved it, I went on a Tuesday morning around 11 so there were not many people and it was very calm.
The breakfast was really excellent, well cooked and it tasted high quality, they also had wonderful pour over coffee which I enjoyed.
I'm used to Danish prices so this was very reasonably priced by those standards
Had a really great brunch on a Saturday afternoon. The pancakes were really tasty - not too sweet, the salted caramel drizzle was super tasty and pancakes were fluffy.
Furikake fries were amazingg as well
Really nice cafe in the day and looks like a pizza joint at night. Either way, there’s beer on tap along with the large range of cafe food items and high quality coffee. Self order at counter followed by table service. While portions are not huge, food is quality and prices are fair for what is on offer.
Caught with an old friend here.
The place was pretty busy when we go there. Seated swiftly with ordering instructions provided.
The pork belly rice bowl was very good. Not over the top oily or salty. It was seasoned well abs well balanced.
The aglio was also well seasoned and cooked perfectly.
The place seems like a well oiled machine from service to food.
A new brunch favorite in Singapore. Not lots of unique places here … a lot of same same, but not Old Hen. Great coffee and awesome food, I loved my rosti, and my friend loved his avo toast. Great service and nice vibe too! Highly recommend!
There is a lunch set menu for $25, which gives you a drink, starter, and main. The place was busy during Thursday lunch, and it seemed like the kitchen couldn't keep up, because our orders were placed at the same time, and we ordered the same thing, and one dish came out much later than the same order did. And the food is so so, but I would come through for their coffee, it was good.
Weekday lunch. Was quite a long wait for the food to be served. Food is decent, but the place is a tad too noisy due to the crowd.
No crowds during weekday lunch hour. Many seats are available in this cafe. The table is big and some seats have charging points here. Food and drink is good too! Shakshuka is full of tomatoes and packed with garlic. Salmon soba is coated in sweet sauce teriyaki sauce that has a hint of citrus flavour to it. Chicken chazuke dashi comes in a glass sake bottle that is very hot. Do let the bottle cool a bit before pouring it into the rice. Dashi has a light umami flavour and it goes really well with the rice. Great to chill with chill music. Overall enjoyed the food and ambience of the place. Will be back to try out other dishes!
Came on a rainy Saturday afternoon for lunch and found the place relatively empty, lucky us. The place was warm and welcoming with great songs to chill to. This place has an industrial feel to it.
Was seated next to the window and I enjoyed it, especially with the rain outside. However, the doors are really close to the seat, meaning that you have to give up some privacy and peace whilst enjoying the view.
My partner and I order the breakfast set, fish and chips and a hot choc. The hot choc came in a small cup but was really rich.
The fish and chips was great - chips came crispy. The batter was light and airy. The fish - sweet and fresh! The relish tar tar was refreshing but a tad too salty. Salsa was refreshing too.
The breakfast set wasn’t impressive. The eggs were good, but that’s about it. Everything else was just relatively okay. The sausage had a great flavour but was a little too dry and salty. The toast was pretty thin tbh. Nothing really stood out for this dish.
You help yourself to water, located on racks. And you do the same for condiments like ketchup and chilli sauce.
Service was okay - except that I was charged an extra dollar for tar tar sauce when I placed my order. I am okay paying for it, but I was not told that I had to pay. That’s not very nice.
Huge plus point - the toilets were actually clean!!!
That said, overall experience was good and pleasant. Would like to return to try some other times that are raved, such as the soba and pesto.
Delicious food ! This place opens at noon and it can get pretty crowded on the weekend. My friend and I ordered portobello burger, pistachio pesto spaghetti, a Black Forest tart, oat white coffee and an ice Long black. It was really nice, especially the Black Forest tart which the maraschino cherries are THE BOMB. The service was great too! Would love to visit again to try the other dishes.
Food deserves 5 stars. Fish and chips super good, some secret spice in the breading (non spicy). Burger was alright. Chocolate drink was bland, spoilt the experience. Coffee was not bad. Place quite cold.
Avocado toast was yummy! The chilli crab fries were too sweet for my taste and the portion was generous. Maybe cafes should start having smaller portioned fries? This was too much for 2 people.
A really crowded spot despite being in the middle of nowhere; tables were all taken throughout our time there on a Sat afternoon. We sat at the counter. Overheard a staff speaking on the phone with a potential customer & stating they don’t accept reservations on weekends.
The latte was smooth and very well-balanced, although my companion felt that the ice black was too little. Perhaps he should’ve ordered the cold brew instead. The food was pretty good & well-plated, but deducting 1 full star because we waited for almost 40 mins (menu pointed that some dishes take 20 mins). If the kitchen could up its game, it would’ve made for a much better experience.
We went on a Sunday morning. Manage to get a seat without reservations. Service was okay. Food is normal. The toasted bread was a little hard to bite. If they could price down the price by a little I think would be worth value to hang out. There’s a max 1 hour dining restriction impose right now.
Newly opened sister restaurant of the nearby Old Hen Coffee Bar. Menu is short, but interesting, with beautifully plated Instagram-ready dishes. The fish and chips were very good but Old Hen's highlight however is still their signature cold brew coffee, tea and cocoa.
Super nice pancake with mochi!! Highly recommend! The Japanese tea is also very authentic. I really like the way they serve the tea. Went there with a friend for lunch, a lot of seats and nice ambience.
Consistently good food and service, for both dining in and takeaways. The cafe is walking distance from me so I come here multiple times a week. So far I haven’t had a single bad experience; hot drinks are always made on the spot and whenever small mishaps happen, OHC always makes up for them. I’ll continue to support the cafe and definitely hope to see it survive and thrive post-pandemic.
Ordered fish n chip with truffle fries and mochi pancake stack. The truffle fries was a tad salty for my liking, I would prefer it less salty, otherwise the lingcod fish was good. Mochi in the pancake is quite special... The biting texture was well balanced with the soft pancake, sweet ice cream and crunchy muesli. Overall good food, great ambience and friendly staff. Worth for a visit!
Our all time favourite brunch hangout during weekends. Never fail to be delighted by a team of youngsters that helm this cosy and friendly cafe. Today we have portobello and bacon aglio olio and buttered corn chowder with a hot mocha and cappuccino. And as always we end the brunch with their fantastic mochi pancake stack!
Only grip we have is they don’t change their menu for more than 3 years. However we are extremely happy with the regular dishes. We are never tired of eating the same dishes!
Perhaps the team can consider a monthly special dish? 😍😍😍
I tried the cold brew coffee (white) and it was reinvigorating! However, fish of the fish and chips were slightly on the dry side and not easy to complete.
Reservations recommended for large groups
Have been to Old Hen Coffee and Old Hen Kitchen many times. One of the spots I would go to for coffee whenever I'm around the area.
Old Hen's cold brew is one of the best so definitely gotta order if you haven't try one.
I'd tired the Chicken Chazuke prior to this review and love the furikake heavy rice bowl, chicken was nicely grilled too.
But the best time to visit old hen kitchen gotta be during weekdays where it is less crowded and soak into the relax vibe.
Visited on a public holiday. It was quiet and intimate, perfect for a little date then a stroll around the neighbourhood. Parking is just behind the block.
The pork belly rice bowl is must-try. Served in a heated stone bowl, the food remains warm for slow eaters. The mushroom aglio olio is great as well but a little too steep.
Matcha fans absolutely have to try the cold matcha milk, and cold brew fans can try the interesting 'white' cold brew. Perfect for a short stop.
Surprisingly good food here at old hens kitchen.location is a bit off the main road but thats what give them a cozy experience with their open concept style here. Like their original place , they also serve their traditional cold brew and a new cold matcha milk. I have to say the matcha milk is awesome for a matcha lover.
Should come and check it out.
Ordered their cold brew before during cb. Love their coffee. Luckily got a table for us near the kitchen. Their truffle fries is delicious too! Have loads of cheese, Love it.
Food is generally sedap, although some hits and misses as well...the furikaki fries were a tad too salty, and the teacake slightly hard...but the mains were good and the green tea varieties good as well. Still worth a visit to try the food.
Love the food, coffee, service and chilled out vibe here. The Sous-vide chicken bowl with furikake was amazing, along with the smooth coffee, chai latte and chilled brews. Definitely be back to try the rest of the stuff.
Nice and cozy brunch place at Owen Road near Little India. The atmosphere is vibrant and youthful, with the young chefs and waiters buzzing around the open kitchen. Food is great too - we took the fish and chips and the Japanese pork belly rice bowl. The fish in the fish and chips is haddock, which is a fish with which fish and chips is traditionally made in Britain, and which you don't get too often in Singapore.
Went there for lunch on a Monday afternoon. The cafe was not crowded, nice place to chill and relax. The coffee was strong with a sour aftertaste. Ordered the avocado on toast and it was not too bad. The basil pistachio pesto spaghetti tasted home made.
Loved the ambience here, really cosy and comfortable. It’s quite crowded on Saturday noon so it would be a good idea to make reservations earlier.
For the food, price is relatively great with respect to the portion size. We loved the chili fries out of everything we ordered 💕 Personally, didn’t really like the goat cheese in the shakshuka and I think there could be more eggs in it 😂 The pork belly rice was alright.
Overall, I would definitely visit again!
Can’t recommend this place enough. We even came back for a second breakfast. Everything was super yummy and healthy. Chai soy latte was the best I’ve ever had!
Nice latte and lemon berries loaf are nice. Small cafe so dining time is limited to an hour. Simple but nice interior decor.
The kimchi burger was nicely cooked and the bun had a nice balance between crispy and soft. The cold brew coffee is fantastic!
Really yummy food and one of the best cold brew coffee in Singapore. Do come in during lunch for their lunch sets. Had the pork belly, museli and corn soup.
Personally i think the pork is a little too hard for the price i am paying for. The portion was quite generous and the taste was adequate.
I do like the chili crab fries, the coffee and matcha cold brew were a little overpriced for me.
Delicious tomato Shakshouka, oat coffee cold brew was great too. Even got one to bring home.
Pretty pricey, but food presentation doesn’t disappoint!
Great place for coffee or instagram shots.
Places that allows you to make a big breakfast even bigger with customization is a big plus.
Go for the egg trio!
Awesome restaurant. Must try the carbonara spaghetti. Staff is amazing and very polite. Overall service and ambience is fantastic. I shall come again for carbonara spaghetti. Delicious. Even their deserts are delicious too
lovely place for brunch! the white coffee cold brew is simply perfect. make sure you reserve a table :)
Nice spot for brunch and coffee. Could return to try dinner items.
Definitely good/above average, tried a few items on their menu before, some were more novelty, if anything.
Recommended to visit!
Still one of the best cafes out there. My favorites here are the salmon soba, chicken chazuke, cold brew coffee & matcha milk.
Nice cafe in a quaint neighbourhood's to enjoy good breakfast, coffee and dessert.
The coffee and staff were lovely, but unfortunately the food itself was quite disappointing considering their price points. We saw them microwave premade pancakes which thankfully tasted alright - but our shakshuka came with an overcooked egg and a solid top layer (probably also microwaved), and the dish itself was just tomato and garlic. It was really such a pity but we were really quite hungry and looking forward! There are better cafes and places to go to for fresh and tasty food (like Chooby's next door), so will probably give this a miss next time!
The cold brew was a bit overrated, but the food tasted fresh and good. No service charge, relaxing ambience for hanging out with friends.
Would rate this a 3.5-star. Was excited to try this place cos of the good reviews. The tuna in the Ahi Tuna Salad was really good, but the rest of the salad had too many "sweet" elements. The Maple Bacon Mac & Cheese was pretty "normal". Enjoyed the hot mocha.

My rating system:
5 = It was really awesome, and I keep thinking about it
4 = It was good, and I’m happy to come back
3 = It was unmemorable, but I could come here again
2 = I would probably discourage you from coming here
1 = I wouldn’t come back unless you paid me
Price seems pricy at first, but damn, good food good service good ambience
Amazing place that deserve 6stars
Love the coffee and full brekkie. The only brekkie place I know that serves a caprese with breakfast. Everything on the plate was yummy. And the tater tots were also really well done. You ought to have tater tots as a side dish too.
Less crowded than Old Hen Coffee Bar. They serve different food menu but the same quality coffee. I had the Pork Belly (Hot Stone) Rice Bowl which I felt that the sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. Will be back next time to try the other dishes.
Awesome chooby pizza by young local chef Mason. Texture was on point with chewy and soft dough yet the crust was nicely charred and crispy. 6 superb flavour options and all were freshly made to perfection. Pricing is a steal. Recommended!
Tastebuds were delightfully surprised with how good the food was. Had the chicken with rice dish and the chicken breast was tender. Had the mocha cold brew - a bit too thick for my liking and too chocolatey. Find it a bit weird that a coffee place doesn’t serve an iced mocha (but serves a hot mocha). When asked why, barista mentioned they don’t have a recipe for an iced mocha. How ironic.
All seats have no backing so if you have a bad back, not a good place to sit for a long time.
We went to Old Hen Kitchen for their highly recommended Cold Matcha Milk (143 calories ) $7 a bottle, reasonable market rate for good brewed coffee & tea. It was smooth and creamy with green tea taste. They serve a wide array of cakes and savoury dishes. We were wondering why Ride.Eat.Find did not recommend any particular dishes besides the Matcha milk. Look delicious and tempting. They were crowded today with groups of people hanging out there. We will be back to try other dishes. Excellent service also.
Cozy spot to chill with friends on weekends. Love the waffles!! Staffs are friendly too :)
I stopped here for a couple of takeaway coffee's today. They looked quite busy, obviously very popular, I can't comment on the food but, the coffee was excellent, prompt service, nice courteous staff
One of the best Avocado toast in Singapore, trust me:)
Best mochi pancakes I've ever had.

Pistachio Raspberry Loaf: 3.5 stars
Pork Belly Rice Bowl: 3.5 stars
Update 2020: I'm sad they don't have the mochi pancakes or French toast anymore due to manpower issues - hope they bring it back soon!
Buttered Corn Chowder was really good!
I ordered muffin too but $7.5 muffin is in my opinion overpriced lol
Overall, this place is cosy and chill(when it’s not super crowded).
Impressed by the standard of Neapolitan pizza from Chooby Pizza.
Chooby takes over OldHen’s place on Wed-Fri 6pm onwards. Transforming from day cafe to evening pizzeria.
Unique pizza flavors like Spicy Coconut Chicken & Pulled Pork Bulgogi along with classic Margherita are must try here!
Authentic Neapolitan pizza at super affortable prices, ranging from $14-$17. They offer delivery too!
The pork belly bowl and the chicken chazuke keep us coming back. The latter is not a dish often seen and this rendition hits the right notes. Doesn't hurt when you can pair them with a cold brew and a double shot latte!
Normal cafe and normal environment 😌
Great service, food is good.
My all time favorite when I am here.. Chicken Chazuke
Hot coffee wasn't fantastic (although I heard the cold brew is the ish). Meals were pretty fantastic. Interesting combination of flavours and filling!
The cold brew is very good however the cake is slightly dry textured
Lovely rosti and drinks. The place is too loud and not conducive to conversations
Excellent service, food portions were good and of high quality!
Lovely coffee and delicious breakfast menu, lovingly prepared food.
Tried the Sunday brunch, 5 stars for service, ambience and food!! Thank you !
Best coffer in Singapore!!
Great brunch!
Always love Old Hen! Food, drinks, all of it
Nice place to relax and enjoy the coffee and tea
Great food, great coffee
Great food, coffee and service
Great brunch place
Great coffee
I went a little after 11:00, and by 11:30, most of the seats were occupied, so I thought it would be a good idea to make a reservation. Genovese's spaghetti has mizuna on top, so I could eat it refreshingly till the end. The salad also contains cranberries and blueberries, making it a little sweet and very delicious. All the dishes are elaborate and beautiful.
Walked in just before the kitchen closed. Delicious food. Special menu with special flavor combinations. They also don't serve standard beers. All in all, definitely worth it if you are looking for an alternative to curry, with very friendly service.
