Reviews of Ryan’s Kitchen
Visited on 24/10 for dinner. The chef on duty was definitely not well trained to handle roast meat.
We were excited to try the Oktoberfest menu with pork knuckle. However, the pork knuckle itself was a massive disappointment. The skin was not well poked and prepped, resulting in a tough and chewy texture. It was not crunchy at all and the meat was quite tough. We had trouble cutting through hence, we called the service staff and he sent it back to the kitchen. I also complained about the potato salad which was just hard. Although the potato was just cooked, it was waxy and difficult to poke into with a fork.
The dish got sent back with freshly roasted potatoes. It was much nicer with crisp skin and the nice aroma of herbs. The pork knuckle remained tough though so we struggled to finish the dish and packed it up, brought it home and stewed it with kimchi. There were very small bits of blue plastic on the pork knuckle after the chef helped to portion it. I believe it must be from the gloves of the chef while he was chopping the meat. I found 2-3 pieces and passed it to the service staff. They were extremely apologetic. No big deal, these things happen.
Now the good part. The Mushroom and Baby Spinach Salad was really delicious. It was lightly coated in sesame oil dressing and had crunchy renkon chips. The button and shitake mushrooms were really fresh, juicy with an umami burst.
The sauerkraut was done really right, it wasn't too salty or too sour and came with soaked peppercorns which gave it a mild spicy kick. The Rotkohl (purple pickled cabbage) was heavenly. It was one of the more authentic versions around, with the taste of apples and cloves. Although it was a little sweet for my liking, it was a great way to cleanse the palate and left us wanting more.
Warts and all, we have to give credit where it is due. The wait staff were really attentive and excellent with service recovery. They gave us a discount and waived the salad dish from the bill. Otherwise, my rating would have been much worse. With the price spent, I would be better off buying from the Hong Kong Roast at the CS next door than gnawing on tough meat. I was hesitant about posting such an honest review after receiving a discount, but changed my mind after seeing how receptive the owner was to feedback.
My point is, if your kitchen staff is not well trained, pls do not serve the dish. It's better to disappoint the customer by telling them the dish is not available than wasting good quality ingredients by poor handling/preparation! Whenever we waste food, something alive dies in vain.
Last picture - tough pork knuckle stewed in kimchi.
I ordered their pick and grill menu. Food is great. Love their sausages too. Highly recommend free range pork sage sausage. Wagyu herb and garlic sausage is very juicy, lamb is a bit too gamey for me.
I also ordered their 200 day grain fed Angus ribeye. Angus is always good wherever you buy it from.
Everything is 5 star but I minus 1 point for their strangely high prep price for sausages, it's $3 per sausage before service charges and gst , minimum of 3, with the price I can get another sausage. Furthermore you cook 3 sausages at once so it don't make sense to charge each sausage separately. For steaks I understand the thicker the more time needed for the chefs to cook hence the prep price are charged by weight. They should just charged the sausages prep by weight too. Simple and transparent.
Had my anniversary dinner here & was simply amazed by the customer service & the food. The entree, main & dessert were spot on. Nice, cosy ambience set the tone to the eating experience.
Will definitely return for casual eats with family & friends. 👍👍👍
I must say the service is superb first time a restaurant has offered another bowl of soup halved when we ordered one bowl portion of mushroom soup.
The beef burgers (we had triple cheese and were great so tasty with medium rare doneness. The kid portions for pasta bolognese were perfectly sized. Cafe latte was refreshingly good too.
No bad comments, hope to be back again soon.
Part of a gourmet market next to it. The restaurant allows you to buy your own meat from the gourmet department and cook at a cost. The set lunch is worth it. The steak is nice. Generally decent food.
Dec 24 Christmas eve family dinner.
Nice food friendly staff and enjoyable family time.
Nice place for family meal tonight. Ordering was made through portable device. Our 2 girls went for burgers, boy decided on chicken and we wanted to just try their steaks. The medium rare is alright. The sauces (mushroom and black pepper) at the side went well and tasted good as the kids used it for dip with their mains and burger buns. Service is ok. We made reservations through the restaurant's web page which worked well. We like to come back and try other items on the menu in future.
2nd visit on 13 March 2021. Tried sirlion steak medium rare and 2 ryan burgers. No issues with food and service.
Sep 2022 visit- updates. 5 stars!
Interesting concept of a restaurant beside their produce shop. The ingredients are seemingly fresh, and I'd say their sausages are the most interesting. Steak was slightly disappointing, but overall acceptable.
The service was amazing. Waiters were really nice and thoughtful. They provide ziplock for mask and wet tissues with alcohol. Food was not super remarkable but decent. Went there with a friend, i got pasta for myself and my friend got burger. The burger portion was very generous, it comes with a lot of fries. The pasta was so so, a bit too sweet to my liking but still decent overall. Coffee was not that good, i got a cappuccino with oatmilk (additional 1 bucks) but can barely taste the "coffee" taste. Pricewise is similar to other brunch/cafe in Singapore.
GF friendly place.
Went on a Sat afternoon. Tried to make reservation, but might be too short of a lead time and it was never confirmed. Still, we managed to get a table quite quickly.
Ordered the bangers & hash (not in photo. Sausages were tasty but hash was quite soggy), salmon smth(can't rmb the name except that it was under light bites. But it was fabulous) and truffle fries (delicious and crispy). Generally, the food was quite decent. Only issue with it was that the smoked salmon dish took quite some time to be done. My partner was almost done with his bangers and hash before my food was ready.
Service staff were quite helpful and assisted in showing us how to select the gluten free options, and to check our orders. Wish the tablet ordering can be a bit more intuitive though. It tends to add the items straight to the cart before we can select what we wanted to edit from it.
A great place for a meal with a few unique selling points worthy of mention as follows:
- Grass or grain fed meat from animals which are humanely handled.
- Fine cuts freshly procured from independent farmers in Australia.
- Attached grocery (Ryan's Grocery) to allow diners to purchase their preferred cuts of meat should they choose to. They could then pass it to the kitchen and pay an additional cooking charge to have their purchases prepared the way they desire.
- Concerned about well-being of diners: (i) sanitising wipes for hands provided, (ii) ziploc bag provided for diners to safekeep their masks, and (iii) sanitising wipes (food grade) for diners to sanitise their crockery and utensils before digging in.
- Monthly promotions that made the reportioire of wallet friendly sumptuous menu items even more appealing!
- Commitment to quality of food they serve
- Cosy and comfortable dining ambience
- Proactive service personnel to ensure that your water glasses are always topped up
First visit: Had a wonderful dinner at Ryan’s Kitchen. The Borrowdale pork chop that I ordered was really awesome! Meat was succulent, tender and flavorful.
Kids really enjoyed the food there. Youngest son found the French poulet to be moist and super yummy 😋😋😋
Thumbs up for the excellent service and fabulous food!
Will definitely go back for more.
Second visit: Visited Ryan’s Kitchen again as the kids were keen to try their breakfast menu. We had the Bangers and Hash, Truffle Scramble, Ryan’s Breakfast Fry Up, Shakshuka, and Hoi Sin Chicken Quesadillas. (The latter three were particularly good.) The servings were huge and the food was delicious, each with accompanying sauces and dips they really enhanced the flavors of the food. The coffee was really fragrant and thick as well. In light of COVID-19, they even provided zip-lock bags to keep masks and cutlery napkins! The standard of food and service here is truly exceptional. Will come back again :)
Really great food! Used Burpple and ordered 2 steaks so it was super worth it. Medium rare sirloin cooked to perfection and the fats were grilled to be crisp and nice. Definitely would go again
Excellent food and service. Ms Charmaine is really very professional and she was able to provide information of those dishes and my dad loved her recommendation. We would love to try some other dishes during the next visit.
Great service, clean seat, attentive staffs.
The restaurant provide plastic bag for your mask, alcohol free wipe and food contact wipe which is very impressive.
I had the Ryan's breakfast, The three cheese burger and the ribeye steak, flat white, house red and white wine with my partner.
We both love the Ryan's breakfast very much, and the three cheese burger.
I strongly recommend to try their Ryan's Breakfast.
Walk past Ryan's kitchen today 3 Dec 2021 in the evening. Was attracted by some visual ads on the tv regarding a promotion for a tomahawk steak for $88 so I enquire with the service crew.
She told me that was a previous promotion and showed me the latest ones. So my wife and I decided to sit down for dinner. We ordered the Prime Rib Set which is $89.90++. It comes with fries, roasted salad (zucchini, sweet potato and pumpkin) and 2 glasses of House Pour Wine (Merlot).
The Merlot tasted very full bodied. It actually has an astringent taste but it pairs very well with the prime rib steak. I would say the owner of the place really does knows his pairing.
The prime rib is totally amazing. However I felt that maybe for meat of that thickness, medium rare doness is not so suitable. I think medium or medium well would be better. We ordered medium rare and some parts of the rare meat are pretty rubbery / tough to bite. So I recommend that diners do ask for medium or medium well doneness instead.
A shout-out to the mustard that comes with the ribs. That mustard does have a taste of truffle and it goes very well with e meat. However when I ask for additional mustard , it came a different type. So bit disappointed here though.
Overall a satisfying experience and good service crew too!
Ordered a beef Wellington as well as cordon bleu cheese ham chicken. The waiting time for the food was longer than what we were told, service was just a little bit lacking but the food was pretty good, just not very worth the price. Definitely an experience, but once is enough.
The meals were simply presented. The ribeye was thin, almost like a minute steak thickness but I guess they made up for it with a broader piece. The fish burger with tartar sauce was not too heavily sauced. Fries were crisp and not too salty.
Had the tomahawk at $88++ (enough for two). There was substantial fat and the meat was good (although a tad well done for medium rare). Would return again.
Burger patty tasted very fresh. Mash potatoes was light. Great atmosphere for a great price. Super convenient that the grocer is right next door to pick up fresh cuts along the way.
Tried the carbonara and the vegan veef burger and they are TO DIE FOR.
Carbonara was creamy and flavourful, topped with a crispy bacon that not too well done. And as a meat eater, I would not have realised the vegan burger was vegan at all! Total umami bomb 💣 (we did replace the vegan cheese with real cheese though)
We will be back!
The Aussie burger was loaded with lots of goodies and was juicy and delicious!
I wish the kitchen has separated the fries from the burger or at least wrapped the burger up because by the time i got home with my takeaway, my fries was soaked in beef juice and was all soggy. The cheese also sled out from the burger affecting what could have been a really satisfying burger and fries treat 😅
Never noticed this eatery till recent. Went for brunch, sausage and hash. Tbh i love the hash. Very well pan fried and almost can have it on its own. The sausage size was very generous..more than enough for 1 pax..
Ordered 2 portions of “Ryan’s breakfast fry up” from their breakfast menu (available till 3pm). One portion with scrambled eggs and one portion with sunny side up.
Food was good and staff was extremely friendly. The only drawback would be that the price is a little on the high side.
Delicious, juicy burgers at very reasonable price! Tried the bacon cheese, triple cheese and also the vegan burgers. All were so juicy and tasty. The meat is superb. Even the kids version of the bacon cheese was good, my son loved it so much! All burgers come with fries, which are also very nicely done - not too salty, nice and crispy.
The wagyu burger is a must try, super juice, buns toasted just nice. One of the better burgers I had in a very long while. Highly recommended. Plus very understanding and attentive staff too.
I like eating here because the produce is guaranteed fresh! Also love the Christmas specials. Had the pork collar, mash with parsnips n poached pears. Nom nom nom!
The food quality achieved authentic flavors. I've only tried their sausages, but they are amazing and juicy. The customer service at Junhe is comparable to that of a 5-star dining establishment: polite and always willing to go the extra mile. Kudos!
Second time here and tried the pork knuckle with sauerkraut from the special menu. Rather big piece, with crispy skin and juicy tender meat. Overall a nice and comfortable restaurant, will bring my family here again to try the big knuckle platter.
Was referred by a friend to Ryan’s Kitchen. Brought my dad after his rehabilitation therapy for Parkinson’s with my wife for a quick lunch.
Food was fresh and well prepared, value for money especially for their set lunch while they even offered ‘Pick & Grill’ service.
What took our dining experience to the next level was the impeccable service standard, attentiveness and care shown by the Host, Mr Sam Tan especially towards my dad right down to the concern on the size of his meat upon eating.
My wife and I have since hosted our friends to lovely birthday dinner subsequently.
Too our disappointment, I was informed while making another lunch reservation today and that Mr Sam have left Ryan’s Kitchen last Sat.
Is definitely a lost to Ryan’s Kitchen 😬
JC is an excellent waiter that is personable and attentive He makes very good recommendation at Ryan's Kitchen and we enjoyed the lunch greatly. Excellent service and thanks JC.
I've been coming to Ryans quite a fair bit over the last six months, sometimes their steaks are a touch overcooked but for the most part they are consistent. Their burgers are where it's at though, in my opinion.
The quintessential ozzy is packed full of flavor and the actual cook/sear on the patty is great. Big fan of the burgers, big fan of their deli too, they've got some amazing quality steaks that are difficult to source from.
However, that's not why I'm writing this review.
As I wanted to support them again, I ordered for something to be sent via deliveroo. Unfortunately although the food was ready, the courier failed to send someone over to pick up the food for over an hour, I called Ryan's to explain the situation and they were very empathetic to my situation, although it was not required by them. Heidi was kind enough to willingly call Deliveroo and express my concerns to them, she was also kind enough to voluntarily offer to cancel the order from their side and re-order it to ensure a courier is sent this time. This was definitely not required by the restaurant but it goes to show the level of customer service that they showcase.
Once again, thank you very much Heidi!
Very good service given by Jun. He has a very pleasant and cheerful disposition. He was very patient even though we kept asking him many questions. Ordered the free range pork chop - excellent choice. You must try when you’re here.
Good steak. Unfriendly Filipino staffs though. Disappointing service.
Amazing food. Best service ever. Reminds me of SQ’s hospitality! Would definitely recommend this place
Great steak!!! I followed the butcher’s recommendation and picked myself a wagyu steak ($38) and cooking charges $15 (when it’s less than 300g), totally worth it! I was promised by the restaurant uncle that I wouldn’t regret for this, he was right.
I’d definitely recommend this place and I’ll be back.
Can I just say I love everything about this place?! The food is absolutely delicious! The steak and pork knuckle is soooooo fresh and good! The ground staffs are very meticulous and attentive with their service and I can’t seem to find anything bad about this place! Will definitely come again! Thank you for the great service!
Special treat from my bosses at Ryan's grocery & kitchen at great world city. They served the best Wagyu in town :) rich, luscious cut of beef that practically dissolves once it hits your tongue. When you have very high-end wagyu, you barely want to cook it.
Will be back for more !!
The service is very good. They attend to our smallest requests like more black pepper sauces, more tomato sauce and water.
Celebrated my birthday here, really great ambience and very pleasant staff. Would definitely recommend having the juicy steak and wine here :)
I had pork chop with creamy mushroom for lunch yesterday. The pork chop is juicy and yummy 🤤 Will definitely try again!
staff is very friendly! beef tomahawk and the coffee is nice. totally recommend y’all to try. went there 3 to 4 times already
Sam is great asset to Ryan’s Cafe. This Cafe needs such quality service personnel he recommends their choices and range of food
Great food with excellent service and good ambience, most importantly very reasonable portions, will certainly be back for more :)
Service is very good - look for Jun he will advise you the specials for the day ! Thanks Jun
Steak is 5 star good👍
Great burgers and steak. Value for money
Excellent meats, excellent service.
Coffee is decent
Amazing food and ambience 💜
This is a butcher shop located on the 1st floor of Great World City B, and is the second shop in Bukit Timah.
We also have processed products such as beef, pork, chicken, and sausages, and we also sell them by weight. The meat seems a little expensive, but it can't be helped because of the location (lol)
In addition, there are many seasonings and wines that you don't often find in supermarkets in the city, so I think it's a fun store just to browse (^ ^)
