Reviews of Sarnies
Great coffee. If you were exploring a little laneway in Melbourne and stopped for coffee and they served you this coffee you'd say "that's a damn good coffee". Latte was dark and rich. Food menu was good and prices not super expensive. Friendly service.
the food was amazing!!! i love the portobello mushrooms, the crews are also very, very helpful and attentive. they also lent me charger for my phone 😅
Aussie-style cafe in the heart of Telok Ayer with coffee that I absolutely love! Food-wise, the portions are HUGE. I usually come here for brunch over weekends and I'll get the eggs benedict. Food is almost always served quickly.
I usually use my entertainer/Burpple app for 1-1 deals, not sure if the prices are justified without the deals though
Great breakfast, coffee here are very good to. Recommended.
Pretty empty on a Wed night. There wasn’t a lot of options for their dinner menu. We weren’t hungry so ordered a paella and 2 sides (hot wings and fried squid) to share. The wings were generously portioned (8 pieces), I liked the sauce, sweet and slightly spicy. Fried squid was nothing special and can be skipped. They cut it into really small pieces and the squid itself is tasteless unless you dip it in the sauce, which is quite sour. Paella was a disappoint in my opinion. The rice was too wet and not flavourful enough. There were plenty of seafood (prawns and mussels) in it but still not worth the hefty price of $38.
For non drinkers, note that they don’t serve free water for dinner. You have to either order their non alcoholic drinks or pay $2 for their bottled water. We got hot tea, coconut water and yuzu lavender kombucha in the end.
We used the Burpple 30% off and final bill came to ~$80 for 3 pax. Overall wouldn’t recommend to come for dinner even with Burpple as there are so many better restaurants around the area of similar or cheaper price.
Ordered the truffle scrambled egg on sourdough, took 20mins to come but the staff was nice enough to notice and offered a free drink for the wait.
Perhaps it was a bad choice for me, truffle oil and scrambled eggs didn’t sit too well. It just felt overly greasy and hard to ingest halfway through.
Edit: fast forward to 2022 and visited this cafe again. Glad that it’s still on burple. Experience this time was much better. Portions are really huge and even for lunch I could barely finish the food. Food is still very solid and value for money. Potato was a miss for me, nothing impressive and way too much spices added.
Presentation layout is okay.
Food serving time is extremely fast. +
Taste of food is below expectation. Bread is very hard. -
Price: $30 - $35/pax
Just tried because I see full house previous time I walked past (full house today as well). Overall its average...
Portions were huge. And service was super fast. Food arrived 10mins after order was placed. Good coffee. The truffled scrambled eggs could be less seasoned. Overall a pleasant experience.
Mediocre at best. We had the steak & eggs, as well as the smoked salmon & cream cheese bagel.
Was not asked the doneness preferred for the steak and it came rather rare. It was really really chewy…. For reference, we always order medium rare when we dine out. Salad had a really sour dressing, whatever that was. Eggs and tater tots couldn’t really go wrong I guess.
Smoked salmon & cream cheese bagel was alright, but I much prefer it at other places. Not a fan of the bagel here, and also find the cream cheese on the sour side (perhaps due to the pickled onions or smth).
We usually finish our food, but we didn’t for both plates.
Their coffee was not bad though - we had iced orange mocha & vanilla.
Filling weekend brunch place in Telok Ayer.
The place is usually packed and there may be some waiting time before you get a table.
Service is not the friendliest, but it is brisk.
Ordered the chilli scramble, which comes with a generous amount of chorizo dipped in chilli over scrambled egg. Had a lovely taste to it, and not overpowering.
Also tried the sourdough with sunny side up and onion & bacon jam. The jam is delicious with the egg. The sourdough, however, is harder than usual.
Also tried the Hot Chocolate, pretty standard offering.
This place was busy during lunch time when we were there.
We had the chicken cutlet which was pretty good. Plenty more food choices and we will be back to try them, especially the sandwiches
The latte was spot on for my taste, certainly a nice place to get your caffeine fix.
Disappointing food. Overcooked poached eggs where neither yolk flowed. Their “fry up” was not too great either. Bread was a little hard, potato and chorizo tasted funky. To make the experience worse, the iced latte was too milky than it should, barely any taste of the coffee. Fast service, generous portions and we managed to use some vouchers here but the food fell short of our expectations.
Amazing food as always! 💯Can get quite crowded on weekend mornings but the crowd is fast moving. Alfresco dining options on a good weather day that is really enjoyable. Service staff are nice and will take the time to help you. Love this!
Food is good with generous portions. Ard 26$ for the "fry up" and 14$ for a regular-sized begal. Fry up tasted simple and flavors are distinct and not blended well. The begal has a more complex taste with the sour cream mixing the begal with the salmon well.
Ambience wise not too great as it's a bit noisy inside or hot outside. Very limited seating indoors.
Coffee is normal and reasonably priced. Dun expect it to wow u.
friend and i loved the truffle mushroom and grilled salmon pasta :) flavourful and satisfying!
Conveniently located in the CBD!
Highly recommend their bagel + chive cream cheese; such a simple combination but so underrated!
Gets pretty crowded on weekends, so expect a little bit of wait time. Mostly outdoor seating so it gets a little hot in the afternoon.
Food here can be a little pricey, but using deals from burpple and the entertainer help offset the bill.
Big portion with good quality food and very noce coffee.
Good coffee. Default double shot for their regular whites. This latest regular flat white (Nootropic Thunder blend) had chocolate notes.
From an earlier visits:
Double shot whites:
Jolly Joe blend - chocolate, slight plum notes.
Nootropic Thunder blend - caramel notes.
Sandwiches:
3 cheese toastie - the spinach, cherry tomatoes, eggplant, and sourdough. The cheeses themselves could be better though.
Beef sandwich - good, especially the texture of the beef itself and the sauce that went with it, though the bread wasn’t so great.
Went to Sarnies to for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. Food is nice and our orders came quickly!
Only downside is that the indoor seats were a little crampy (which is really not an issue tbh because I'm just comparing it to their Bangkok outlet😅) but the staff were attentive and offered stools to customers to place their bags👍
Going back to try their weekday dinner menu soon :)
This shophouse cafe with its little dingy narrow interior situated along the vintage Telok Ayer has the feel of one of those trendy coffee holes in TriBeCa New York where the queue for ordering snakes down from the counter to the entrance as patrons graze against diners in tiny wooden tables munching on their avocado roasts and skinny flat whites….the open kitchen behind the counter is boisterous and kinda looks but doesn’t quite qualify for the same chaos as seen in season 1 of the bear…..yet it definitely punches above its weight when it comes to the quality of the food & supporting fresh ingredients it has on the menu. Yes the food along with the assortment of coffees ranging from orange mocha, coconut long black and just your skinny flat whites are arguably the best coffee in town. And If you don’t mind the perpetual Singapore summer, sitting outside on a weekend with a book and AirPods does wonders for ur mental well being ….or so I’m told!
Quick service, tasty food , and different varieties of coffee beans
I tried the chicken schnitzel, the portion is huge, I would say it can be shared by 2 persons.
Other sandwiches are great too.
The food was great - I was genuinely surprised by the portion. Worth it!
Welcomed well by Tim - made sure i was seated comfortably & took the initiative to brief the menu. Great services were provided by Kim & Haziq.
Service was quick and the food was great as I ordered the a la carte breakfast. The bacon was inedible though and I was a bit disappointed. It was rock hard and overcooked and most of the pieces were stuck together felt like I was eating bacon bits instead of actual bacon.
Absolutely thrilled to share my experience at @Sarnies! 🌿🥪 If you are a fan of salads and sandwiches, this Australian gem is a must-visit. We tried both, and let me tell you, they were mind-bogglingly good! Hearty yet healthy, loaded with veggies, and a true boost to any diet. 🥗✨
But that's not all – Sarnies is also famed for their freshly in-house roasted coffee. ☕️ A perfect cup to complement their delicious meals.
A standout dish? The Turkish eggs in Greek yoghurt with sourdough bread and veggies. Trust me, you won't regret trying this flavorful, unique creation. 🍳🥖
Head over to Sarnies for a delightful and nourishing food.
Oh no gonna have to agree with Glenn Murphy on this — had the breakfast burger and truffle scrambled eggs but they tasted.... a day old?
Breakfast burger was so disappointing. The rostis were cold and hard, the guacamole was miserable and it was simply lacklustre.
Truffle scrambled eggs were yummy but the bread was so stiff, like it was left overnight on the counter :(
At least the coffee’s good.
Coconut water long black is not bad, and bacon is nice, sour dough is not too hard. Overall quite ok, wanna try the smoothie next time.
Sure, here's a compliment message for Kim:
...
Dear Sarnies Team,
I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional service provided by Kim (Didn't really get her name) during my recent visit to your Telok Ayer Street location. Initially, I had ordered a takeaway meal, but later decided to dine in at your premises. Kim was incredibly accommodating, allowing us to use the restaurant space for our meal. She went above and beyond by offering us plates and cutlery, making our dining experience truly delightful.
Kim's kindness and willingness to go the extra mile did not go unnoticed. Her warm and welcoming attitude made a significant difference, and I am grateful for her outstanding service. Please extend my sincere thanks to Kim for her exceptional hospitality.
Best regards,
Larry
Brilliant cafe / restaurant for breakfast. They could do alot more with the decor - it needs updating in my opinion. However the food and drink was fantastic. Service was also great!
Not bad. Food is nice and coffee is good.
Pricing wise is cafe prices.
Expected to spend $25-$30 per person including coffee.
I had the avo toast while friend had smoked salmon bagel.
Great place for brunch on weekend! However, they have limited indoor seatings.
Ordered the omelette and egg Benedict during my visit and both were really yummy. Food portion is really generous as well! The food was made even more worth it with burpple deal!
Will definitely visit again!
Breakfast at Sarnies
If you prefer alfresco dining, Sarnies will be a good place to visit - they have plenty of seats outside the cafe and you can watch the cars drive by.
It can be pretty warm on a sunny day but thank god that they have fans installed.
We ordered the ham & cheese croissant, egg muffin and salmon, avocado & egg wrap - which I think is the most value for money and it’s tastier.
What I like about Sarnies is the free-flow of tap water and we could also refill hot water for our tea ordered.
Nice place to catchup with friends over their all day breakfast.
It’s true, the portion is huge which is why I love it! I’m a big eater so I do need double toast, double eggs and basically double everything haha. A perfect place for an outdoor brunch at CBD area, but might be a bit too hot on a very sunny day.
I got myself a Chicken Schnitzel with Ciabatta but after the first half, I felt the chicken was too oily and started to get a little cloying.
I was amazed by how the foods were served even faster than fast food restaurants.
Had the truffles mash bacon bombs and buffalo wings, also a bottle of red. Did not expect the wings to be so spicy though!
Edit: came back for the buffalo wings and a prawn taco. Food was alright but the really value for money thing was the 7 dollar red and white wine!
Food was great. Its quite heavy. And served quite fast. Only problem I had was the space is too cramped up. Have indoor and outdoors, we chose to sit indoor.
Been coming here for a long time, love the service and everyone is really friendly will be coming here again.
Food was pretty good!
Service was basically non-existent tho, understand they were busy, still, 3 pax 100ish bucks at least some basic level of service not too much to ask.
Overall 3 star but I do recommend y'all to try!
Excellent coffee and food. The eggplants sarnie was crunchy and delicious
So happy we discovered this gem of a place. The coffees were terrific and the food was great!
Had the dirty bird sandwich. The chicken had no taste.
Updated: Thanks guys for responding - the texture and crisp of the skin was there but the meat inside didn't have much taste and the aftertaste wasn't too good as well.
Once again, appreciate you reaching out.
Best flat white! ☕️
Looking forward to go back here and try other food offerings.
Food is really average, there are plenty good choices for brunch in that area. Came here at 2pm and it was insanely busy, once is enough, will not come back again .
Excellent food
Accommodating and friendly staff, specially Kim Landingin
Excellent place
Will definitely recommend to friends
Great food and coffee. Prices have gone up, still worth it on weekdays but do note that prices are a bit higher on weekends
They always serve good quality of food and coffee. The food portion is big. Crowded with morning cyclists, too.
Love their “Pimp Your Own Breakfast” from an exhaustive list of options including their house-cured bacon, new homemade sesame bagel and chive cream sauce. And the happy energetic vibes and satisfied customer service from their friendly staff.
Good portion of food. Quite packed during Brunch. If you have a baby it's not ideal to take as there's not so much room inside for a pram. So you have to sit outside and choose an area where it doesn't obstruct the walkway. They have fans blowing but it's still got for a baby. But the food and drinks are really good. We had avocado toast and mixed berry smoothie
Hands down best turkish eggs breakfast, best breakfast PERIOD.
The halloumi cheese and salad went well together, and the dressing was moderately refreshing and light.
A place always crowded with locals and tourists
It was crowded with many Westerners.
The food itself was delicious, but... um... I didn't really like it.
Milk 濃郁香醇好喝❤️
Kudos to the management team of Sarnies! Service were speedy and food was served promptly despite visiting on a busy Saturday morning!
Food ordered:
- Chilli Scramble: eggs were perfect, soft and creamy! The chilli were just right, not too spicy but added adequate flavours to it
- Turkish eggs: some of the most beautiful dish I have seen. However gets jelak pretty quickly so would recommend sharing it with others.
- Coffee were pretty good, bonus points for the cute latte art!
Unfortunately I forgot to use my burpple deal when I visited so boooo for me :(
