Reviews of The Book Cafe
Good food at reasonable price. Super good service as greeted by excellent staff with water provided upon seated. Drinks abit on a high side though. That’s ok as I guess many patrons are chilling there.
The steak is juicy and tender. The eggs are fluffy and buttery. The potatoes are roasted well.
The service is excellent. Servers are nice and attentive.
Cozy place to hang out. Matcha latte was nice and not too sweet. The almond croissant and matcha chocolate cake were nice and not too sweet too. Nice ambiance in a calm, relaxed atmosphere. Staff was attentive and friendly. The only downside is that the music they played kept skipping and cutting in and out 😅. Apart from that, it was great.
Lovely place for breakfast. Chipolatas and bacon 🥓.. great way to start the day.
Lovely place, I love the vibes and book selection and the spaciousness.
Nice place to have a conversation and talk about books and to know someone better.
We also ordered the gelato sandwich thingy, it was funny cos they were inspired by book titles, and we found the gelato sandos amazing as well.
Cozy book cafe with awesome food to offer.
I ordered various all day breakfast items and all taste amazing. They indicate hashbrown in one of the menu but it comes as roshti, no complaints though. It taste amazing.
But the most amazing meal is steak with foei gras. The doneness is perfect. It taste amazing without sauces. Which means the ingredients itself are good and the chef cook it well. Super happy with this meal. So far the best I ever eat in Singapore.
Recommended to visit this place if you are happened in this area.
Nice chilled café with comfy sofas and chairs plus standard cafe seating. Quiet place with most people on a laptop and there are plenty of plugs to charge your laptop or phone. Love the bookshelf decor.
Look for a place with free wifi and sockets to do work, found this cafe. Went there on Monday at 10am. The cafe is quiet and only few patrons. Ordered their Egg Benedict with Rosti ($19.95) and Americano. Decent food. The eggs are done well with the yolks still runny. The rosti is a little too oily for me. Like their Americano as it is a strong brew (order one with 3 shots). I am glad that they allow me to use my own cup to keep my coffee warm for a longer time. Every table has a pair of power sockets. Went back on Tuesday again but this time most tables in front of the counter are taken. Tried their pancakes with scramble eggs and bacon ($15.95). The pancakes are fluffy but the serving is small for the price. If it comes with banana or one more piece of pancake will be perfect. I was given uninterrupted time to do my work and the surrounding is quiet enough even for conference call. Will definitely come back again.
Love this cafe! I was working remotely in Singapore and working on Australian time, this place was open early enough for me to start work and have breakfast at the same time. This cafe is great to work, study or read at. They have a huge collection of books, it’s quiet, they have some power outlets and their free wifi is good. The menu had a great selection of breakfast dishes and healthy lunch options and their coffee is good. Next time I’m in Singapore I’ll definitely be going back.
Food was pricey for the portion given. Kimchi fried rice was comforting, bulgogi beef burger was satisfying but salmon mentaiko sandwich was a miss. Drinks such as matcha latte and iced chocolate were great. The main highlight was the atmosphere and service. Staff were really attentive and offered us a seat on their comfy sofas when sofa seats were available. Background music was perfect. Would come back!!
A sit down place for hours enjoying a good conversation or reading a good novel. The Espresso served from machine is well balanced. Very comfortable eclectic decor and sofa. Looking forward to returning.
Nice place to hang out for hours if you want to read a book, get work done or even watch a movie on your laptop with your friend. Food and drinks are a bit expensive but that's probably because they are assuming that people will order 1 or 2 items per person and stay for at least 2-4 hours at the cafe. There are comfy couches, free wifi, books you can read there, and plenty of electrical outlets to plug in your devices. Service is good too. For these, the price is worth it. I won't suggest anyone who wants to have a quick meal to come here as the half an hour that you're gonna be there to have your meal is kinda not worth the price. I ordered the vanilla orchid tea $8 (I think), which was really good and fragrant. I also had the eggs blackstone $17 with add-on salmon on the side for an extra $2. It's totally not worth to opt for the add-on btw, as you literally only get 1 piece of smoked salmon for the price of $2. Food tastes decent. One of my poached eggs was overdone and no longer runny. There could be a bit more hollandaise sauce on my eggs too. Other than that, I'm generally happy with the experience at this cafe. 4 stars for ambience, service and amenities. Food wise, probably 3 stars for quality.
The coffee tasted great. The cake was a bit sweet. The surroundings was cosy and nice. It is a bit expensive though😊
Service is outstanding.
The place provides plugs for those who bring laptop. Perfect for working.
Love the quiet environment.
Drink and bakery I ordered is so-so.
Courteous staff, tried the all day breakfast with Salmon option. Tasty and freshly served.
Black coffee was also freshly brewed.
Loved it.
Love this cafe! We’ve travelled extensively this year - and without doubt this cafe is a favourite- perfect tea, coffee and real breakfast!! 🥰
Ate lunch at the dining area and desserts at the couch areas. Staff was very friendly and helpful and directing us to preferred seats. Ordered a steak and mentaiko salmon, steak was cooked perfectly medium rare (but could use a little more seasoning), the mentaiko salmon was perfect, very delicious!! Watched a movie at the couch area, was not disturbed at all, wonderful time.
The family platter for 4 is more than enough for 5 pax. Been here 4 times this year and no regrets. Service and food is awesome. And the price is very affordable.
great friendly service, came just before the mad weekend lunch crowd hit. the eggs royale was one of the best I've tasted in a long while (melt worthy) although the hash felt a little overcooked. decor is cozy and muted. some parts need a little touch up but its charm will bring me back again
Love the cozy feel. Not busy when I arrived there. They offered sofa seat when available. 👍🏼
They have good coffee too. Will defo be back♡
Surprisingly quiet and comfortable ambiance to chill/work on a laptop. Thoughtful staffs would even offer a seat with power-socket in case we need to charge our electronic device. And how to find a cuter tea-bag? :D
Love this cafe! Very relaxed atmosphere and friendly service from staff and Ms Audrey. Food and coffee is great. Will definitely be back!
Favourite place to chill and work, probably the best in Singapore. Third time here and never disappointed with the variety of practical seats for groups, individuals and individuals who are open to initiating a chat at the sofas.
Tea selection is great as well as a wide selection of brunch, filling meals and salads. WiFi speed is excellent with occasional resets (force the login page using 192.168.1.1). Charging ports are plenty too, making for a great place to chill and work. It can get crowded during the early evening, so come early.
We went for Sunday lunch. It was very crowd when we arrived and waited for a while to sit down. After sent the order we waited for 40min to have the first plate of food. This waiting time is not acceptable for a cafe. Staffs are not friendly and let me feel I’m not welcomed.
The cafe and food is good. But the service is on the low side.
Not very spacious but understandable since it is a rather busy cafe. Ambience was alright, a little darker than in the other photos. Music that they played was quite nice, 2000s+ but a bit distracting from any potential reading to be done.
The cappuccino (w oat milk) was alright…. but it was $6.8++ which becomes $8.
Camomile tea was nice, just a little expensive.
Also ordered the vanilla latte which tasted very strange, would not recommend.
Great place to have ur lunch and work settled at the same time
Once you come in, they will ask you to come here for dining only or for working purpose as well
There are different areas for dining only and working with dining
Lots of power plugs as well
Came 2 days in a row because I couldn’t stop thinking about the latte with soy milk. It’s challenging to find cafes that serve a very good blend of latte with soy milk. A lot of cafes burn the milk, but the book cafe does it beautifully. The flavour of the coffee and the soy milk is balanced, which is difficult to find these days. This is treasure for non dairy drinkers.
I had an apple pie to go with it during the tea time meal promo. Was a good pairing for me to munch while reading my book.
Lovely place!
Environment:: nice and quiet location.. the environment is quiet too... Is nice to read book and has a soft chat with the other half.. for study or work is good but I don't like ppl who order a cup of drink and Sit the whole day long
Food:: I love it all the food especially The fish and chip is crispy and fresh cause is what i love about fish and chip
Pricing range: above average $$.00 so depend what you order as they alot of choice to choose from.
Food is good, atmosphere is nice and it's a great, chill place to sit, have a cup of coffee and read. Although tasty, the food is very expensive for what you're getting... I feel that there are other cafes around the area that offer better food for the same price point
Great ambience, nice music, cosy setting for a chill lunch!
I needed to get some work done and fancied a change of environment. It was an incredibly relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The staff were lovely and helpful, and the coffee was delicious. I highly recommend it. Will definitely be going again.
Breakfast portion is just nice, cappuccino for me (at chocolate milky side) maybe I have to add on extra shot next time.
Overall good.
Ordered their cappuccino and lemon pie. Both were amazing! Ambience was perfect; cozy and not too noisy. Perfect to enjoy a cup of coffee and a serving of dessert while reading a book :)
Ambience was relaxing and quite. They have many books which one can read. I like the feel of this cafe, but food was average for the price
Delicious breakfast. This is a great place to come and have a bite and work on your computer or read a book. Plenty of books to read there, indoor couches and tables, outdoor tables, charging outlets too! French toast is an A+!!
Enjoyed breakfast and lunch here. Coffee and toast was a nice light breakfast. The kimchi fried rice was very good.
Would definitely come back again.
It was my first visit and I experienced a lukewarm reception by a young man at the counter. Though I enjoyed the coffee and the chatter with my friends in a cosy little nook, I don’t think I will be back or recommend this place to anyone who asks: mainly for the sour service and the fact that it is not anywhere accessible by public transport.
Love this lovely cafe that serve good food and nice coffee. Service is good and very comfortable place for some me time.
Amazing nice place to do studying or reading. But the carbonara was unfortunately disappointing. The cream was too excessive. Book Cafe falls into the culinary trap of cream in carbonara.
Good place to chill out with friends on a lazy weekend. Coffee is good and recommend Blackstone breakfast. The muffins are crispy and slightly charred. Taste so good with the bacons and poached egg. Luckily It's not too crowded on a Sunday late morning.
They have a good range of magazines, multiple power points for customers working on their laptops. One half of the cafe is furnished with comfortable sofas.
Nice food and coffee.
A bit dark if you want to use the laptop at indoor seats.
Great service! Staff is very friendly. It’s a low key place to work as well. The apple pie is worth ordering.
Amazing service, food has home made vibes but tastes REALLY good!! Had the pancake with egg and bacon, plus mushroom. Well seasoned, and power plugs!!
AC was a but cold tho
Great breakfast with nice coffee, and cozy atmosphere with comfy sofas to sit back and relax.
Friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Good service. Loves spot to chill grab a bite to eat and relax
Adore coming here to work/study! The staff is extremely kind and the food is delicious. They have a great lunch deal.
The coffees, gelatos, and food are very good. Would recommend the milkshakes.
Slightly pricey when the gst is included, overall very cosy place, food and service was all nice.
Love the vibe and service here. Good food at a reasonable price too! Perfect Saturday chill spot!
Decent food at decent prices. Coffee prices are slightly above average (standard cup is a single shot of espresso) but maybe it is such since reading/working in their premises is not discouraged! There are also books and magazines that you can read while here.
I was here on a weekday and it was a holiday that day. The cafe was fully packed. It has both outdoor and indoor seating. I luckily got a table outside. I tried Thai lemongrass ginger tea and totally loved it. They also offered thirst quenchers + refills for free. The owner was very kind and looked after each customer. I think I will visit here again with the hope of getting a table indoors.
I went here when I was doing a trip to Belfast and we stopped over here for 5 nights. The service and food... were AMAZING and reasonably priced hot beverages (Coffee and Hot Chocolates) as well!
They understood English very clearly, and they were lovely people as well. Was only a 5 minute walk from the hotel we stayed at. Best Café I have ever been too.
AMAZING 5 STARS!!!!
Sending thanks from AUSTRAILIA!
The place and the food was great. However, my experience was ruined by 2 VERY noisy and insenstive girls at the sofa area. A few customers do not know how to control the volume of their voices, disturbing other customers who wants to read or work. The staff did not tell off these customers making me think there's no requirement for keeping your voice volume low despite marketing itself as a book cafe. If you want to read or work in piece, bring earphones. This is the only book cafe I visited in Singapore and I'm shocked at how insensitive the other customers are. It's very VERY different from other book cafes I've visited overseas.
To the staff, I think it's a good idea to put a sign saying to keep quiet if you intend to market the place as a book reading friendly place...it's not so different from the noise you get in starbucks....just saying.
ordered an iced matcha latte and the tortillas! yummy stuff 👍 the sofa was also comfy and cozy to rest/ read on!
This place is such a gem, and we were so grateful to find it by chance during our visit to Singapore! We enjoyed a scenic stroll along the river to get here, and found this eclectic little cafe tucked away. The ambience is delightful, as is the food! All-day breakfast will always win you brownie points, in my book. The coffee is bursting with flavor, the fruit is perfectly ripe, the croissants are impossibly flaky, and everything is delivered with kindness.
First time that I'm so drawn to leave a review on google. Here on a weekday morning. Impressed with all the smiling faces on the staffs. Super remarkable service that is really pleasant. Very nice environment to settle some work. No pressure at all, sockets are available at many tables and the place is not crowded or noisy. And I got to mention, the chinese lady even helped my mum to peel open the butter for her croissant. Everyone is so polite and friendly. Pastry and coffee are good too. Thank you so much! Love you guys! Will be back!
Great atmosphere, great service but not many options for vegetarians or vegans.
Amazing cozy ambiance, great service, love the sofa setting, love that there is no reservation required for sofa, Audrey always remembers exactly our preferences and that makes us feel at home. we are a regular here for the chill atmosphere and easy going staff.
Always magnificent. Ruby as warm and welcoming as ever, food comforting and yummy, cappuccino superb. Service is all round attentive and intuitive. Ambience for the outdoor seating upgraded with fans and hanging plants. This place has acquired iconic status in Muhammad Sultan, in my humble opinion.
My last trip to the Book Cafe must have been 18 years ago. Used to have my coffee runs there, and in fact, when the news of 911 broke, I was having drinks there that night.
My recent trip there has been a very pleasant surprise. The quality of the coffee still as good as in the past, and even the breakfast menu is the same!
Crowded
Great service, great couches to laze. Many magazines to read. Great place to spend time or waste time =)
Chill vibes, real books in our digital age, real nice to feel paper again, they just released their gelato range. Love the pineapple, ask for a dash of Tabasco on it☺️. Didn't get chance to try their pumpkin soup, looked really inviting. Would be back for that and their coffee.
The French toast, hashbrown, and iced pandan latte are delicious! Be aware the French toast is a lot of food!
Went back today cause we liked the ambience. Perfect place to get work done. Staff were really nice and attentive. Just a note I'd like to add was that it was a little warm in the inner couch area.
Nice quite place, comfy sofa.. great coffee
Nice and cosy place. Price acceptable
Good choice of teas, nice coffee and a tasty cakes. They are also happy for you to take your time and use the fast & free WiFi. Get there early in the weekend or you won't get a table!
Always a joy to re-visit the place, although sometimes it may get a little crowded. Friendly staff, nice ambiance to do light work' or just read a book you grab from the shelves.
Nice coffee shop to relax and eat good food. The only down size in my opinion is the lights are too low which makes studying more difficult.
🏠Environment: Every time I pass by, I think the store is closed because the lights are dim and there are not too many people there on weekends. It is pet-friendly and you can sit outside with your pet.
💁🏻♀️Service: Pretty good. The waiter has been observing the situation outside, so the service is very timely.
🍽️Taste:
👉Eggs Blackstone $22.92 - Eggs and bacon flavored Benedict, with tomato slices and spinach added, a very healthy and delicious breakfast, and the portion is not small.
👉Shibuya The Tolkien ¥17.8 - The bread is toasted very crispy, with brushed cheese. The only flaw is that there is a little less cheese. Fortunately, the bread is delicious just eating it. It comes with vegetable salad, so I add it myself. I ordered fried mushrooms. The mushrooms were delicious, but I didn't like the sauce on the salad.
👉Ondeh Ondeh $9 - The colorful coconut shredded cake that is a must-try in Singapore. The cake is soft and dense, with a perfect fusion of colorful and shredded coconut. It is a very delicious cake.
👉Latte $6.5 - A very good latte, with a delicate and soft taste, and a perfect blend of coffee and milk.
👉Hojicha Latte $7 - Hojicha Latte has been a favorite since I came to Singapore. The one with a little sweetness tastes much better than the sugar-free one.
I visited recently! Since there aren't many book cafes, it was okay except that everyone gathered here. More than anything, the staff was friendly and I felt good! There are many people who come alone or in groups, and we sell a variety of meals, desserts, and coffee. The calculation method is deferred payment! If you come alone, you will be asked if you want to share a seat when you enter, but you can decide freely.
There is a WiFi socket in the store. The service attitude is very good. The lemon cake and smoothies ordered are delicious.
Super nice cafe, cozy atmosphere and incredibly delicious coffees. The flat white and iced tea are particularly recommended.
