Reviews of The Food Peeps Coffee and Deli
If you arrive and every table is occupied, do not worry. Just speak to the staff. They have some more tables in the background. Where you can also find the toilet. That being said, the staff is very nice. They are definitely the stars of this place. Unfortunately, it's not the food. The coffee was great. Quite strong, as you can taste the beans very clearly. But the bagel was underwhelming. It looked fine but was more of a bread than a bagel like they are served in NYC. This, combined with only a borderline amount of toppings, lead to a quite dry experience. It was okay, but that's it. But all in all, I can still recommend this place. It is a nice option to take a break from all the hustle and bustle in this neighborhood.
It's a small quaint cafe just beside the chinatown temple. Ambiance is great cause we were seated outside to people watch. Food is of good serving, and surprised it is without GST and service charge. Toilet is very clean, and to my surprise, with a bidet. 🙂 service is so fast whenever we request for condiments the staff give it quick. Should we/i come back? Definitely yes! Million times more!
Nice shop in Chinatown, so very conveniently situated. The bread was a bit too crumbly for my liking and the avocado was too citrusy as well. Other than that it was a good breakfast spot.
Great place for a breakfast. We got a bagel, an iced coffee and the Açaí Bowl which were very delicious and the portions were big enough. 😊
Also the service was extremely good and the food came really fast!
It is a bit more expensive (we paid around 30 dollars for everything) but definitely worth it!
Great food with a healthy menu option. Coffee was decent.
Not air-conditioned. You get to people-watch of the passers by on the five foot way if you’re seated near the entrance. Walking distance to the temple; about <10minute from the mrt station.
Staff could be a little friendlier. Kudos to the chef.
Walked in for a flatwhite. Got me one with an extra shot. It was a three espresso shot flatwhite with oat milk. The barista balanced it well. The roast was not over powering and he managed to balance the taste from the oat milk. Crafty bugger!
Lovely concept. Easy to chill out with good ambience for people watching.
Still rare that I find someone who will interact cordially and politely. Transaction interactions. At least you are left alone to enjoy the peace amidst the crowd. The guy who served us was polite. I think it is the stress behind the counter that is transactional focus.
Yet, it was a good cafe with good coffee in Chinatown, Singapore. Lovely breeze too.
Came on a Tuesday morning around 8.30am, didn’t have to wait for a seat. Ordered the Prawn Guacamole Toast, Big Breakfast, Matcha Latte (unsweetened) and Sea Salt Earl Grey Milk.
Prawn Guacamole Toast (10/10) - if you love avocado and crispy sourdough, this is your must order! Even after it was cold, the sourdough was still crispy. Avocado paired well with the mango salsa, but my favourite was the prawns 💯 Well seasoned and added an elevated taste to the whole dish!
Big breakfast (8/10) - A good plate of breakfast and the serving is really filling. My favourite was the grilled halloumi, but otherwise everything else is what you would expect it to taste. The baked beans were really good though, not your conventional baked beans in a can!
Matcha Latte (9/10) - Thick, creamy and what you would expect a good Matcha Latte to taste like.
Sea Salt Earl Grey Milk (10/10) - this was really a pleasant surprise! I didn’t want to consume caffeine so I went ahead with this drink, and it didn’t disappoint. Milk consistency is less thick than full cream, the earl grey flavour was well infused in it and the sea salt really elevated the flavour!
10/10 will be back again to try other dishes!
Edit: was not quite a fan of the rendang pasta, but still one of my fave places to come to for brunch! IVL and Scones were pretty good.
Fantastic experience all in, wait staff were attentive, polite and welcoming. There was no pressure to rush you or anything. Food and drinks were balanced and moderate, not excessively oiled or spiced or sweet or salty.
The Food Peeps Coffee & Deli in Chinatown, Singapore, is a delightful spot for a cozy meal. The café offers a variety of homemade dishes that are both delicious and comforting. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a perfect hideout in the bustling Chinatown area. Their coffee is highly praised, and the food, from savory waffles to fresh bagels, is prepared with care and creativity. The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience!
drinks were average, not great/ spectacular. rendang pasta was not bad, but the chick n & avocado sandwich was really salty.
good vibes but average food
The smoke salmon and avocado bagel I had was nice, filled me up. The cream cheese was not too overwhelming and I enjoyed myself. Coffee was good too.
Shout out to the staff, the place was busy, but they maintained their smiles and made sure we were comfortable. Thank you!
i ordered the carbonara and a latte. the carbonara was really good but on the saltier side, so if you prefer blander food this may not be for you. the latte is good but there is a slight bitter aftertaste, and as someone who has had many lattes, i'd say this isn't the best one i've had. the staff is super friendly and proactive in refilling water at my table, so we had a pleasant experience there overall :-)
spectacular service. food is a little more expensive than usual cafe prices but understandable as its at a prime location. we were very lucky to get a table at 1030am on a sunday. carbonara highly recommended! waffle was not available, but we will be back!
We tried the omelette crepe (with smoked salmon) and garlic miso clam pasta. Omelette crepe was a little salty - both from the smoked salmon and spinach. However, the garlic miso clam pasta was very delicious - it was creamy but not overly creamy, with generous number of clams. Would come again to try other dishes. Didn’t notice any aircon at the place, but it is not too warm. There is also no GST! Staff was also attentive - provided us sharing plates when we said we were sharing the food, and proactively gave an extra bowl for the clam shells. Overall, would rate this place 4.5/5 (couldn’t do a half star on google).
Update: I came back again in Sep 2024. Menu looks a bit different. Tried the carbonara and it was exceptional!! 100/100!!
Like that there are variety of choices in the menu. The cafe is tiny and not many tables, gotta wait for table during peak hours.
The salmon and avocado bagelwich was tasty and bagel was crispy on the crust. The prawn with smashed avocado on the toast was delicious.
The price was average. For those who like this kinda cafe should give it a try.
A cosy cafe which is quite busy. Small place but comfortable. Can be hot if u sit outside. Generous serving of ingredients for the seafood pasta. Truffle bagel is also not too overwhelming yet nicely infused truffle in it.
A good place to catch up with friends but definitely not for big groups.
Nice place for a brunch on weekend. Let the hustle of the tourists pass by the area and let yourself be immerse in the surroundings. Nice matcha 🍵 latte. Nice waffle 🧇.
Do come before 1145 on weekends. I liked the sweetened matcha latte, tastes just right. We loved the salmon bagel -- big portion. The big breakfast wasn't consistent though, mushrooms were too salty while the salad wasn't seasoned. Would come back again to try the other bagels 😍
Pretty cosy place to hang out for brunch, might be alittle warm to sit outside. Generally food is decent, ordered hangover pancake & Bacon Scrambled egg bagelwich. Bagel is yum.
We also ordered rendang pasta. Rendang beef is very generous, taste kinda leans towards Peranakan spice than Malay rendang. For those whom cannot tolerate spice that well, this can be a tad spicy. But I love it!
Ordered the prawn guacamole and toast, not sure if the chef added double portion of salt or something, the avocado is so salty! Coffee wise was normal. Wasn't a very good experience for me.
Very nice breakfast in China Town.
We went in a Sunday for a brunch and the experience was pretty good. We had a couple of bagels and a flat white. Everything was very tasty and nice.
Why I do not give them the 5th star? My feeling is that it was a little bit prices (even for Singapore standard) and they do not have WiFi.
So I just discovered a lovely cozy cafe near my home in Chinatown that offers a simple yet delectable brunch menu. Despite situated just beside the touristy Buddha Tooth Relic temple, this quaint little gem, with its unassuming and simple cafe decor, provides an oasis of calm amongst the hustle and bustle of busy Chinatown. The cafe opens as early as 8am and already it is packed with hungry customers, and because it is a really, really small space, expect to queue if you intend to come visit.
AS A VEGETARIAN:
Had a quick lunch here and was quite amazed by the options and the number of vegetarian choices. The food was totally worth the money and was definitely tasty without fail. The place also made sure service was quick, fast and to the point. The place is definitely worth a visit and make sure you try out the coffees. They have quite a few choices and are good.
Good food, good coffee and awesome service. Staff was clear in explaining the menu, requests for butter and sauces were met with much enthusiasm.
Only gripe was the tables were too small (or were the plates too big? LOL!!) and aircon could have been stronger. 😏
Great coffee, pricing is very affordable. I got my flat white at 5 and oat milk at extra 0.6. Ordered an omelette crepe and got a very generous portion of it - esp the smoked salmon. It was really a filling brunch meal 😀 the raspberry mint tea tastes amazing too. A pet friendly place, they have a few outdoor seating as well.
Mushroom omelette was superb. Bagel with avocado was average. Waffles were below expectations - given how much good reviews they had. The scones were pretty good, especially the one with shredded coconut. Matcha latte was average but I appreciate the customisable sugar.
Can get really warm during brunch at about 11 (outdoors especially without a fan). Do appreciate the quiet environment and it being surrounded by trees though.
We had only coffee this time and will definitely be back for food as the coffee had leave good impression. The only downside was due to hot weather so take the inner seat if you prefer stronger aircon.
Great food, great service and great space.
Tried the big breakfast and the experience is otherworldly.
To be frank, I was a tad annoyed when I had my first bite.
I was blinded by a flash of bright light and deafened by sudden loud music.
I was going to leave a scathing poor review until I realised that was from 10,000 angels in divine chorus.
I guess they were visiting for team-building breakfast.
11/10 will come again.
(so good that I got a bagel to go)
They do not take reservations so had to inform staff upon arrival and leave your mobile contact. They will contact when a table is available.
I had a table for two. It was 1pm and so was scorching hot noon awaiting for a table. Was easy to locate the cafe in the bustling Chinatown. They have indoor and outdoor seats. Indoor seating are slightly cooler but as it’s an open concept with no glass panels or doors- relied on a poor one and only aircon which managed to cool a little.
Staff were fantastic. They made us felt welcome and gave us a glass bottle of refillable water (free) as soon as we were seated. Looked through the menu and made payment at counter to have our orders placed. We both wanted the SAME big breakfast club lol!!! We seem to have the similar in all cafes we went hence we do have a gauge of expectations ;) I ordered a flat white to go along with my meal.
Big breakfast club: Sourdough, choice of smoked salmon/ham/bacon/mushrooms, choice of eggs, spicy baked beans, grilled halloumi, side salad
My opinion for it: Good portion for the price. It’s relatively cheaper than most cafes serving the same. But would love it better if there was sautéed mushrooms- not as an option but a side. I’m not a baked beans fan cos I’m into savoury food - however, I was pleasantly surprised they did a savoury-like spicy bake beans - it’s not spicy but definitely not the norm sweet baked beans❤️ great job!
Scrambled eggs were overly buttery- could do better with less butter. Can do away the two little pieces grilled halloumi - super salty. I thought I had a whole chunk of salt shafted into my mouth (hence I mentioned earlier, could remove this and replace with sautéed mushrooms instead) didn’t enjoy that.
Flat white was fabulous. Staff were honest and came back to my table to have it replaced with another when they realised they fell short in giving me three shots for the flat white. Thanks for the fantastic service 👍🏻
I loved my bagel but my partner thought his was a bit bland. Great value considering you’re in Singapore and a cool location near some souvenir shops. Would very much recommend.
Went down on a weekend and it was crowded. You can leave your number and they will call you back. Seats were quite limited. There’s a Taiwanese dessert shop nearby which we got ice cream while waiting for this.
The food was ok at best but the drinks were very interesting and refreshing. Would recommend to try. Few of the menu items was also out of stock.
Found this cosy little place through a friend's recommendation. We went on a Sunday late morning and gave my phone number to the staff whilst waiting for a table. After 15 minutes, I got a call that a table was available.
I ordered their breakfast set whilst my wife ordered their hangover pancakes. Both classics were well done and tasted good. Had long black coffee with our brunch. Price points are decent too.
I definitely would recommend it.
Loved the food and coffee!! I definitely recommend trying this place out💕🫰🏽
I wish they had AC in the restaurant though.
Note! Make reservations if you can, this place is very popular.
Update:
Went for the second time today. Did not disappoint.
This is a great spot! I visited for breakfast with a colleague. It's a little bit hard to find as the front entrance of the Maxwell House is shut so you have to go down the side. It's worth the small effort though as the food is great and the service is PERFECT! The staff are really friendly, the menu is full of tempting options and the prices are very reasonable - I went for the avocado toast with egg and mushrooms and it was $13. There's a nice leafy outdoor area if you want to move out of the cozy indoor section.
All in all a solid choice - I'll definitely be back!
Arrived 15 mins before noon on a Saturday and there were already three groups of people waiting to be seated. There aren't a lot of tables around but the polite and helpful staff did their best to accommodate everyone (with safe management measures, of course). A very enjoyable visit and hope to return to try their other dishes soon
Have been coming to The Food Peeps since their old outlet at Maxwell House. Top value for money, portions are large and quality of food is great! Most of all they're consistent..my favourite is definitely still the omelette crêpe with spinach (not pictured). I'm glad they are getting more business with their bigger outlet!
A homely cafe nested at the side of Maxwell house.
Tried the big breakfast club and the latte with soy milk.
What I liked:
- the bacon with a hint of sweetness on it. Not for those who love salty bacons,
- the beans have some spices and onions added in them, rather unique and I liked it,
- generous portion of egg,
- baby spinach on the side, lovely!
What can be improved:
- the coffee taste can be stronger as the milk has overpowered the coffee taste,
Sourdough lacks depth in taste but nonetheless, crispy and nice
The staff is friendly and prompt though the waiting time is abit long. But hey, they prepare your meals when you order them, confirm fresh and warm.
Drop by if you are nearby.
Cool venue, good food, good service & fantastic value for money
Solid 4 stars. You pay nett prices here. Tried both mocha and flat white. Coffee comes with double shot espresso. They have quite a huge variety of brunch food. Prices are reasonable.
Great western style breakfast loved their Açaí bowls, waffles and French toast with beautiful fruit. Easy place to sit and enjoy without being rushed. We ate here every morning of our weeklong trip as it was delicious, welcoming and we loved it. Highly recommend
I have been to their old Tanjong Pagar branch before but I didn’t know they shifted + I’m bad with food places names so imagine my surprise when I finally realised this bc I recognised their table setting LOL
Anyway, I tried their carbonara recently and I loooved it. I can’t comment on the authenticity of it because I don’t know enough but it so happens I rly like the flavour of this!! Saltiness and sweetness were balanced well and I could taste a hint of truffle oil…I think I will come back for this. Their other dishes are decent too! I guess that’s why this place can get pretty crowded
Food: Rendang pasta + omelette crepe with salmon
Drinks: cappuccino + Matcha Latte (both Large)
We reached at around 2.30pm and was told that there was a waiting list of 2 groups ahead of us. We decided to wait but within the next 15 mins, we were seated outdoors.
Food was served very quickly. Rendang pasta was a little spicy. I thought that the combination with pasta was weird but my friend really liked it. Omelette crepe was very good in my opinion. Wish it came with an additional slice of bread.
Chanced upon this hidden gem, 5mins walk from Tanjong Pagar mrt. Quite an extensive menu for a small cafe, the spicy prawn burger is awesome. Love how they put their twist on common dishes. The crispy Parma ham on carbonara is divine, love how the pasta is al dente and not soggy. Will be back to try out more dishes! 🍔🍝☕️
Simple hearty brunch cafe with very good scrambled eggs and avocado toast! Rendang toast unfortunately wasn't as good.. very dry and tough! Coffee pretty robust too!
Lovely place. Delicious food. Ordered prawn aglio and rendang pasta. Prawns were all de-shelled and rendang serving was generous, nicely cooked.
Been following ever since I went to dine-in at their original location which Maxwell market at opposite. After they shifted till here, more nearer & convenient for me. Also went there to dine-in for their all time breakkie. Hopefully next time can dine-in at their backyard
The Food Peeps is a tiny homey cafe that is quite hidden behind tall trees. We got the seat outside and it had just stopped raining so the weather was perfect. The staff are really sweet. The coffee wasn't amazing but it was alright. I really enjoyed the avacado toast with salmon that I ordered for brunch. Everything was super fresh and I could clearly see exactly how they were preparing my food. Would definitely go back again with more friends next time.
Nice mornings coffee around Chinatown. Located along 2 stories shop houses.
I had a coffee and brownies takeaway due to covid safety.
The qualities of the drinks and food is still acceptable.
Nice and friendly workers.
Very cool place for coffee in Chinatown. Love the raw look and impress with the coffee bar come with kitchen that serves an extensive menu. Highly recommended!!!!
Ambience: 3/10, very stuffy and very dirty.
Food: Taste not so bad but not so fantastic
Price: Alittle exp but normal cafe price.
Not really worth going again.
HANGOVER PANCAKE!!!! YOU WONT REGRET IT !! EVERYTHING WAS DELCIOUS ! Staff is also super kind and efficient. I felt very welcomed 🥰.
Just had my brunch here. The barista very very very super pretty!! Even though I'm also a girl, I can't help to praise how beautiful she is.
Good Food and Coffee. Will be back to try more.
Wow! I have never had such a positive impression of a brunch place! Have to share it and recommend!
We walked pass by this place on our way to another restaurant on a Sunday morning, but immediate loved the chilled vibe. So we walked in.
The staff was super friendly, the decor is cute, green, and chill, it’s not too cold with strong AC but also very breezy, the food is reasonably priced, and they are absolutely delicious! We had an omelette crepe and a waffle with eggs - fresh ingredient cooked in a very nice way.
I think I have found my fav place for weekend brunches!
Full house on weekends lunch! Service was really great! All prices were net. Matcha latte and bagel (with egg and smoked salmon) were both tasty! Total damage was $16.50. Worth it!
Great food and coffee. They ran outta waffles & pancakes p quickly though (by 2pm). Actually p affordable.
Awesome place. Was there for breakfast and would and will always go back there. Omelette was awesome, especially with the avocado cream, sautéed mushrooms and spinach. Must go place for breakfast lovers!
I love the indoor aesthetic greens for the comfort of my eyes; had a cup of regular hot chai latte for an afternoon tea break, great for a good catch-up location.
I come here every time I travel to Singapore. Best coffee, and very nice and reasonably priced food.
One suggestion is to update the recipe for grilled chicken sandwich. It’s basically just two slices of bread with grilled chicken and some spinach. And it’s VERY dry. A bit of avocado would improve it substantially.
Best breakfast I had in Singapore. Super friendly staff and efficient service.
This place was truly a gem and it was extremely aesthetic!! Perfect for insta worthy pictures with the green background and plants:) Food prices were really reasonable and food was pretty decent too!!
Great coffee, great food, great ambience. I love their avo toast with smoked salmon and homemade bagel!
Long queue on weekends so do go earlier!
Love the vibe of the this place, especially the outdoor terrace with lots of green. Exclusive hangout with freshly made food!
I had the Hangover Pancake last week and liked it so much that I came back specially today to have the Classic Pancakes.
Terrific - authentic buttermilk pancakes; not easy to find this high off a standard in Singapore.
The owners are the ones who run the place (I asked), and it feels to me they really take care to give you quality stuff.
I plan to visit again.
Great people and great food ( we adore their pancakes)!
Tucked away in a small corner of Maxwell House, this place is my go-to-place with my furbaby.
Organized a breakfast meet-up for 7 of us. First time here and was pleasantly surprised by the wide choice of breakfast and food quality. The coffee was also done to perfection. The staff are patient and friendly. It was a rainy morning so it was just the perfect weather to be seated outside with the lush greenery. An ideal place to catch up and share stories for our phase 3 breakfast meet-up.
Chill and cosy place. Good coffee.
Suitable for small groups.
Might get a bit too noisy when everyone is talking
Great foods, amazing Rendang n matcha latte
Great place to have breakfast or lunch in Chinatown.
super delicious food abd drinks - perfect for a brunch
Amazing place to eat
The atmosphere was great and staff was super helpful plus kind. Just that the food is really….meh :/
If you are looking for an international style breakfast/brunch this place is for you.
Young, dynamic and attentive service.
Satisfying food, both the sweet and savory parts (particular praise for the waffle, perhaps the best ever for me)
ideal breakfast. The clerk was kind even though his English was poor. I used it while doing laundry at a nearby coin laundry. I had a great morning!
A super cozy café in the middle of China Town with incredibly good food! Big recommendation
Very good coffee, helpful welcome. Delicious bagels and fruit juices
Very nice and tasty tent, for a reasonable price!
Very tasty cappuccino and fine fresh food. Pleasant atmosphere. I'm always happy to come and come again.
