Reviews of Yixing Xuan Teahouse
We had the loveliest afternoon enjoying / tasting tea (品茶). The set up is more modern than other teahouses in the area but I actually enjoyed our experience here more - Ian was an amazing host and he answered our questions patiently. He loaned us the company of 2 tea pets: a colour-changing rabbit and a water-spitting tortoise. He explained the significance of each. We loved the water spitting tea pet so much we left with a toad sitting on a watermelon. Ian helped to test it in the store to ensure it was working well before we left.
On teas:
We tried the Aged White Tea - Gong Mei 贡眉 and the Feng Huang Dan Cong – Honey Orchid.
While there’s the option to have them in “convenience cups” (strainer basket in a mug), we opted for the Gong Fu Tea 功夫茶 experience, during which we got to brew our own tea in teapots!
The White Tea was really good. I’m usually a drinker of Oolongs and “Cooked” Pu Erh (熟普) so I was excited to try the White Tea. The flavour was still quite deep from being aged. Very tasty!
The Honey Orchid one smelled amazing - I’d never smelled any tea like that before. The honey notes really cut through. But in terms of taste, it was quite different from what we expected. It had a smokiness to it (?).
Highly recommend Yixing Xuan Teahouse if you’re looking to enjoy a relaxing afternoon.
Very demure, very cutesy, very mindful 🍵💕It’s literally Perfect descriptions for this tea house.
Yixing Xuan Tea professionals will show you the full of love & passion for your choice of 茶.
My brother and I did the full tea demonstration session. It was absolutely worth it. We learned a lot, and the son of the founder was lovely. Felt like I was wine tasting again— that’s a really good thing. Highly recommended. Note I want to do tea when I return home to Seattle!
During our recent trip to Singapore, visiting Yixing Xuan Teahouse was one of the highlights. The shop is family-owned and we truly enjoyed our time with Charlene in the Tea Appreciation Workshop, learning about how the teas are harvested, differences between white, green, and black tea, as well as the art of serving tea.
We enjoyed the art of tea so much, in the end, we chose a beautiful tea set as a souvenir to remember this incredible memory and our time in Singapore. The staff was very helpful and patient in helping us explore different tea pots and my new favorite thing, tea pets. We were nervous about traveling home with it, but the shop took great care in packing the tea set and everything made it back in one piece. Highly recommend for anyone interested in tea culture and wanting a memorable experience in Singapore.
Wanted to surprise my friend with a tea appreciation workshop & this store came up! Really glad they managed to slot us in at the last minute and it was a very informative session! Charmaine was very knowledgeable on the subject and the whole session was fun & engaging. Kudos! Will definitely be back again to drink their teas and be in the moment. Thanks Yixing Xuan for this amazing experience we had!
We are so used to doing things in a rush that our visit to Yixing Xuan Teahouse was timely in reminding us of the need to slow our lives down. The cozy shophouse is an oasis of tea aroma amidst calming Chinese instrumental background music. A wall is lined with shelves of tea products, teapots, teacups and tea brewing accessories.
Small groups of friends and family gathered in quiet conversations as they brewed and steeped tea. Time seemed to slow considerably as we enjoyed small mouthful of tea served in tiny porcelain tea cups.
Charlene and Charmaine were great hosts as they shared their tea passion and brewing techniques with customers. When the tea preparation and steeping are done right, the tea takes on a different dimension.
For 2 over hours, my wife and I enjoyed the tea selections recommended by Charmaine. It was time well spent!
Yummy Dim Sum, wide selection of teas. Love the mandarin pu er.
About service: Went there with my friend, who is a regular customer (not sure if this is the reason tho) every time the staff just looked at him and asked him if we need more water or anything else, completely ignoring others, it would be so much better if the staff can show their attention to other guest on the table as well.
We attended the tea appreciation workshop at Yixing Xuan Teahouse with the intention of learning about the main types of tea, but we came away with so much more than we ever expected! Charlene was exceptional, sharing her extensive knowledge of the history of tea, Chinese culture, and the art of tea preparation. She explained how to differentiate between the different types of tea with much details and included many fun facts too! The amount we learned was truly incredible and made even better with the high grade tea (:
Charlene was patient and thorough in answering our questions and took time to explain the various tea pots that we admired. The workshop was held in a lovely, zen atmosphere that made the experience feel very relaxed and enjoyable.
In addition, their dim sum is top notch! The lotus leaf rice was the best I’ve ever had in my life.
We are definitely coming back and we highly recommend this teahouse to anyone interested in tea and Chinese culture!!!
I have had a wonderful tea experience in the heart of Chinatown. The ambiance is charming and traditional, perfect for enjoying a wide selection of Chinese teas. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, always willing to help you choose the perfect tea. I particularly enjoyed their tea appreciation workshops, which provided a deeper insight into Chinese tea culture. Overall, a great place to relax and enjoy quality tea.
We got Longjing Tea and Jin Jun Mei - both were excellent choices and were fragrant and authentic.
Brings me back to my visit to Hangzhou and we enjoyed the experience a lot!
The staff are very friendly and patient in giving recommendations. They also serve complimentary vegetable biscuit which tastes surprisingly good!
Visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was almost full house. The tea house is not very big and a little bit noisy but it’s very clean and comfortable overall.
Must stop. I had such a lovely time. Took my mum and staff spent a lot of time explaining the different teas and showed us how to properly prepare tea. It was like watching a performance play.
We ordered some food - all amazing but the red bean pancake was a stand out.
We learnt a lot about everything from the teapots to the different teas.
We spent about 90minutes simply enjoying the atmosphere and the tea.
Fabulous experience for tea lovers in Singapore. Such hospitality, delicious and unique teas, warm environment by this family run Teahouse. Don’t miss out on this experience—it was really special! Thanks Ian for a great afternoon!
Chanced upon this teahouse while strolling along tanjong pagar after a heavy meal. Was attracted by the zen feel. Good variety for teas, price is reasonable and staff are really attentive and friendly.
This is my 2nd purchase from Yixing tea house. First was at their shop itself 1 month ago. Their teas are addictive!
Of course I think they are on the expensive side, but I have no regrets as I believe they took the effort and hard work to ensure the teas are curated to their high quality and standard.
I have only just started learning about teas but I can guarantee you the quality of their tea leaves are high.
As you can see in the picture below, even their packaging and presentation of their delivered tea leaves are well done. Even going the extra mile to write a card.
I really appreciate all the hard work and efforts they put in into their teas, and service to their customers. Highly recommend for everyone to explore them!
Thank you Yixing teahouse!
We were here on a Sunday in early-Feb 2023. There is limited seating so you may wish to call ahead to check if there are workshops or events planned for the day. Or take a chance and drop by if you are in the area.
The staff members are very knowledgeable about the teas and provided good recommendations based on what flavours we generally like for beverages.
They do serve some dim sum and light bites too. I recommend having their lotus leaf rice if you are looking to have only one thing to eat. It's so soft and fragrant.
The red bean and green tea pancake is another signature dish which you should try.
Lovely experience! Was greeted, introduced and conversed with friendly and knowledgeable staffs. Pleasant first exposure to quality tea brewing and drinking session. Will definitely drop by again!
I attended the tea appreciation workshop with my date and it was a wonderful experience! Ian, the 2nd gen owner carried out the workshop for us
We like how his explanation was clear and succinct with good use of visual aids at times. We even had the chance to brewing the teas ourselves after the demo, which was a good way to practice some "kungfu" and taste the difference
They even served us complimentary cold brew tea which was a nice addition to the workshop. Highly recommended!
We just walked in to our really welcoming tea expect, Ian. He was so helpful with deciding what teas to have and showed us how to make our tea. It was a wonderful experience, I would recommend to anyone who wants to have a relaxing afternoon drinking beautiful tea. Thank you!
Booked a 60 min tea appreciation workshop, brought my parents along and they both enjoyed it. Highly recommend whether you are a tea lover or not.
Charmaine & Charlene are super sweet and thoughtful as well. They go the extra mile to start conversations after the workshop and even entertained many many questions. We will be back for sure!
Stepping in and the vibe changes immediately. Calming. If you are at a loss or looking to try something different from your usual tea, the owners definitely can help you out
My wife and I were able to get a reservation for the tea appreciation workshop with tim sum on our last full day in Singapore. This was easily the highlight of our Singapore trip! Charlene was incredibly knowledgeable and shared with us the history of tea, how to tell tea apart, and how to best enjoy tea.
What we especially loved was all the care and thought that went into each of the products. We were able to find very unique finds, not just in terms of tea, but tea cups, travel mugs, and more. It is very clear that Charlene and all the staff at Yixing Xuan Teahouse are intentional and thoughtful about the relationships they build with authentic potters, and even about the weight their bags can carry.
While we are not in Singapore very often, we are excited to visit again during our next trip! In the meantime, we will definitely be taking advantage of their international shipping. Thank you Charlene and Yixing Xuan Teahouse for a wonderful experience!
lovely experience! Friends and I wanted to try this out and were super excited! People working there were extremely patient and friendly, approached us to ask if we wanted any recommendations or needed him to explain anything as we were a little lost. We got the Pu’er and Ti Guan Yin set! Explained to us the whole process and we got to try it on our own after. We also ordered lotus rice and overall the experience was so so so good! would definitely come back again and bring more friends in the future! really a hidden gem. Very peaceful and calming experience.
My friend gifted me a tea workshop session at Yixing Xuan Teahouse, and it was such a enriching 3 hours spent, learning about the history of tea, types of teas, teapots, how to brew kungfu tea, as well as savouring the tea. Being an avid Chinese tea drinker, I had some background knowledge on teas but found out so much more and discovered new teas. I will definitely be back to try more teas, either on my own or with friends.
Very friendly and helpful staff. One of the few places in Singapore where you can drink very high quality tea in its purest form!
Chinese tea house owned and run by a family. Gladys and her son, Ian, were very generous in sharing with us their passion, knowledge and experience with teas. Their teas are lovely and unique as well. Thoroughly enjoyed our time and we’ll be back!
Great quiet spot to enjoy some tea! The staff were great at recommending teas. They also serve up some decent sides to accompany the tea. My recommendation is the matcha red bean pancake!
Also a great place to buy teaware. Love their teacups and teapots.
Had a really enjoyable and great tea appreciation workshop with Charlene as our host! She was very knowledgeable and passionate about tea making. From her sharing, we got to learn more about the various kinds of tea and how we can better brew tea. If you would like to do something different with your partner or friends, this is one activity that you should not missed!
Besides the tea, the snacks that we chose for the workshop were all very tasty, especially the green tea pancake with red bean filling! I am definitely looking forward to returning here to drink more teas!
Had a wonderful and beautiful experience with friends at Yixing Xuan. Staff Ian was friendly and knowledgeable, and was able to bring out the intricacies of the ancient Chinese art of teas and tea-drinking in layman’s terms. Fun and enjoyable place to spend an afternoon. 茶道!
Was too engaged in the whole process and forgot to take pictures! But do go experience for yourself to find out.
We joined the owner, Vincent, for a tea appreciation workshop. It was a Wonderful experience learning about the history, migration, health benefits and types of tea and sampling 6 different teas in 6 very small tea pots. Whilst the tea pot size (really small) was counter intuitive to me, it makes so much sense now and makes tea taste better! Go figure.
Highly recommended.
The tea tasting workshop was so enjoyable and informative. Our host, Charlene, lead us through different types of Chinese teas and the correct way to brew them. We really enjoyed expanding our tea knowledge and hearing her experiences in the world of tea. They also have different types of tea and tea brewing equipment for sale. My only regret is not booking the tea tasting with dim sum as the one dish we did have was absolutely delicious. A top notch Singapore experience for sure.
This Teahouse was perfect. They are very knowledgeable and have amazing teas to try. If you'd like to learn more about the ceremony of tea this is a great stop. My husband and I did this years ago and never looked back at coffee. Brought our son this time and had a great time! We even added to our tea set collection! This is a must do while in Singapore and Chinatown and specifically this shop.
Lovely tea appreciation workshop. Charlene was articulate and knowledgeable, guiding us through the 1 hour session. We tried 4 different types of teas, along with some light bites. Would recommend for a peaceful afternoon in Tanjong Pagar for tea drinkers - something worth trying in Singapore :)
Very zen place that serves great traditional Chinese tea ☺️ they carry a wide variety of tea and tea ware too. Overall a lovely place with really warm, friendly owners who are passionate about their craft, will be back again!
I have attended the tea workshop twice since a few years back and it's always a great experience. I also bought some of their tea online, like the white tea (yinzhen baihao), green tea (biluochun), and pu er tea, all which taste fantastic. Personally enjoy the green tea the most.
Charlene is always warm and hospitable! Would recommend this for anyone looking for a unique experience. Love the dimsum as well, the lotus leaf rice is my favourite.
I had a delightful 2 hours at this authentic and elegantly furnished tea house whilst chatting enjoyably with the owner's wife. This tea house is 22 years old, so you can imagine the knowledge, tea history and experience which can be gained from a visit. i was peckish too so I had a small delicately flavoured chicken dish and it was impeccably well prepared and was delicious. This was accompanied by jasmine tea which fully complimented the food and the tea got better as each cup was poured. This place is a haven, quiet, super relaxing with an Asian air of tranquility away from hectic Singapore. It is enriched with oriental atmosphere and it would not only be a great place to visit but would work as an excellent 'off site' team bonding place for corporate teams. Something so very different, yet memorable! Can't wait to return.
Thank you Charlene for the most insightful tea appreciation session! For anyone who is interested to learn more about tea (it’s all from one plant!) and take a step back to enjoy the time with this amazing drink - this is definitely a MUST DO. I’m definitely going to be more mindful of steeping time and boiling points!
Excellent, enjoyable and informative workshop. The tea was wonderful, the shop had a lovely selection of tea related products, and we also appreciated the opportunity to have yummy dim sum after the workshop.
Great tea served and a good place for relaxing!
Small cozy place. Went for a tea appreciation workshop. Learnt quite a fair bit. For S$45, not bad. This was under a Grassroots Club programme. I think they also have a public programme that includes food, but at a higher price.
Tried 4 different types of tea, from white to green to oolong to black.
Charlene is quite knowledgeable. Been in the line for 11 years.
They sell teas and tea implements too. The teas are quite pricey. They've a loyalty programme that's free to join and gives a 10% discount, which isn't really alot but better than none.
Excellent tea! We took their wonderful and fun tea appreciation workshop in 2018 and although we live in the United States, we have been buying their excellent tea ever since. Normally the tea arrives within a couple weeks, but during the pandemic a couple shipments were delayed and I instead bought tea from a popular US vendor and was disappointed with the quality. The Yixing Xuan tea was so much better! I bought loose leaf silver needle white tea from both places. From an appearance perspective, there was very little breakage in the Yixing Xuan tea leaves, surprisingly different from the US vendor. But the big difference was the remarkable variety of delicate flavors and aromas in the Yixing Xuan tea. It's such a pleasure to drink their tea. We're lucky to know of them.
Thank you Mrs Low for such warm hospitality. Tea was perfect for the rainy weather and chatting with Mrs. Low was eye opening. She's so knowledgeable and told us so many stories about the tea we drank. Will be sure to come back to experience the tea appreciation workshop.
Very knowledgeable host, got to know a lot more about tea culture.
Very authentic tea specialist place. Got to learn how to appreciate tea, felt like primary school science class learning the optimum condition for various tea type. Would recommend this to others. The teacher was very patient and knowledgeable about his tea.
As an online customer out of Australia, it’s always a pleasure to receive a parcel of exceptional gong-fu teas from Yixing Xuan Teahouse. I love the personal cards and thoughtful quality sample teas which introduced me to the stunning Da Hong Pao Oolong. I’ll have to drop by one day on a stopover :-)
Warm hospitality with a variety of teas with tasting notes and health benefits listed, makes for a fun, enjoyable and chill place to stop by. Also serves dim sum to pair with tea! Tins of tea and tea ware available for purchase.
Highly recommend. Friendly staff ,have a good knowledge in their product, not too pricey and their dim sum and green tea pancake with red bean filling goes well with their tea.
Was recommended to try “High Mountain tea” and it was amazing as it has a fragrant and light taste. Good ambience to chill. Additionally, the staff are helpful and friendly as well. Highly recommend to come! 10/10!
Amazing experience. The owner and family are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and kind. We loved the entire experience.
Just a short walk from Maxwell Center and Duxton Hill. I went there to find mandarin puer. Charlene greeted me and really showed me the comprehensive tea collection that the shop has got. Initially it was just supposed to be a quick drop in to buy the puer for my parents - but I ended up enjoying a pot a dragon pearl tea and chrysanthemum tea. The menu also had dim sums but unfortunately as I am on a diet I couldn't go for the food :-(. The shop is great and has everything from tea to teapot to teacups. Charlene is very friendly and taught me a lot about different tea. Her mum Gloria was also there and she was equally friendly and nice. The old shopfront ambience works well (I commented that this would not be the same if this was in vivocity). If you want good chinese tea this is definitely the place to go for.
Tea is not bad. Try the pancake with a nice combination of tea and red bean flavors. However, it smells oily in there, making it more like a restaurant than a tea house. Maybe it needs improvement on ventilation.
A teahouse with a good selection of uncommon teas. It's family run. The owners are usually there and are very helpful.
They offer international shipping.
Love this teahouse. Had a great time brewing tea and enjoying the many little cups of tea. Great option for a relaxing and chill day~
We enjoyed traditional tea service here. They were helpful and knowledgeable about all the options.
Good quality tea 😍. Really appreciate how gladys take the additional effort to send the tea on urgent basis for our special occasion 😁 will definitely buy again if i need anymore tea 🌷⚘
Very wonderful tea experience! With great homemade dimsum to go with the tea! Is a very good place to relax with frens
Good wifi, tea, and service. The dumplings are also tasty and cheap. Lots of variety + a great location!
They have a wide selection of tea and the service is good, but the place smells a bit oily as they also serve dim sum.
One of my favourite tea houses. Affordable quality tea and a nice environment with chit chat with friends over.
Lovely tea appreciation workshop experience, with a very friendly staff and some amazing food on the side.
enjoyable kungfu tea workshop and nice dimsum to accompany the tea. found a new appreciation for tea!
Really friendly service. Great tea and red bean pancake! Definitely visiting again!
Lovely place.
Very friendly people.
And above all lovely tea 🥰
Always come here to enjoy their teas in this quiet and friendly family -run teahouse.
gooq quality tea and delicious food! like the dumpling and the lotus rice as well as the homemade sauce :)
Fully stocked with tea varieties. Friendly helpful staff
Excellent atmosphere and great tea!
Still my favourite teahouse! 🥺🥺🥺👌👌🙌
Awesome tea place. I recommend
Good knowledge of tea from owner
Love the selection of tea.
Came for a tea appreciation workshop and didnt disappoint! Ian shared many interesting knowledge on the different teas origin, and how to differentiate tea leaves. We also get to try brewing ourselves after the demo because if it is easily forgotten if we dont practice it. The lady boss was also very friendly. We purchased a tea set back. Highly recommend!
You can experience authentic Chinese tea. The owner's kind explanation is impressive. This Tea House is a great place to enjoy a quick meal of dim sum with good Chinese tea.
Located near the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Yi Xin Xuan's introduction says it was established in 1989, which is earlier than the Tea Chapter I went to before. This space is casual and relaxing, focusing on lifestyle tea. If you like Chinese Kung Fu tea culture, you can’t miss it.
The service staff are very kind and are always ready to refill the water and pair it with two kinds of tea. You can brew and drink it by yourself. A pot of tea allows you to temporarily escape the hustle and bustle of the city, which is worth the money. As for tea, it’s pretty average, with average consumption per person of $18.
It seems that the boss likes tea sets very much. There are a lot of purple clay teapots in the store. He said that he used to go to Yixing, China every year to collect the teapots. I don’t know about teapots, but they look very beautiful.
A tea cafe where you can enjoy an overwhelming amount of Chinese tea. If you are not familiar with the details, the staff will explain the details carefully and select the tea that best suits your current mood. The optimal temperature seems to vary depending on the tea leaves, so I'm grateful that the tea is served at the optimal temperature. The jasmine tea was served a little lukewarm, and the Tieguanyin was served hot. I would like to enjoy a different kind of tea again ☆
Stopped by by chance and then came back again the next day. Great tea and incredibly friendly people!
A place where you can buy tea, drink a cup of brewed tea, or brew it yourself. The usage time is 90 minutes and the car price is expensive.
Attended the Tea workshop. Very interesting, the instructor is passionate and we play dinner! The flavors and taste have nothing to do with tea according to European standards. Excellent snack
Very nice service who also explains clearly what the teas are about. Very good selection of teas and dishes.
great traditional tea shop with shopping options
