Reviews of Seng Wong Beo Temple
Chance upon this Taoist temple in the heart of the central business district. This temple can be traced back all the way back to 1905. This temple is walking distance away from Tanjong Pagar Mrt station.
They are one of the few Chinese temples in Singapore that still practicing Chinese spirit marriage. Do take note that photography is not allowed within the temple. Pretty small temple, you probably can cover the place with 5-10mins.
A local important temple that many generations of Singapore went to connect to the netherworld. Be in for a surprise to see Deities and Gods who look different.
城隍, or the Urban Gods in the Chinese Taoism mythology, is the god responsible for the city, especially the underworld of the city. so according to mythology classics after people's death they will report to the Urban gods and being led to the underworld for judgement. if they are judged as 'good' then they will be put to good reincarnation path ( like being born into a wealthy/powerful family in the next life) , if they are judged as 'bad' then they will suffer in hell before being put into bad reincarnation path (like being born as a pig/dog, or into an abusive or destitute family)
nowadays taoism itself is not as popular as others, which is a complex subject for study. and taoism gods are mostly forgotten. but just in pure terms of tourist attraction, this small but delicate temple is a good place to visit, if you want to delve deeper into the history and unique culture of Singapore.
its interesting that it is a small temple surrounded all by high-rise modern skyscrapers, a sheer contrast but a very representative notion in singapore
The temple will remain closed till further notice in conjunction with Singapore Government preventive measures again Covid-19.
Just a temple in cbd where you may seek for peace
Nice mentor at temple
Calm atmosphere, rich history
Very old Chinese temple.
Wonderfully preserved and renovated
Nice
Pray 🙏🙏🙏
I spent SGD 6 on incense and gold paper when I arrived. It basically cost no money, but an uncle told me the order of worshiping the gods. It was a pretty good experience.
