My child saw Jiayong for 2 years thereabout. While they managed to build a rapport, I was hugely disappointed when Jiayong missed significant key markers during a major depressive episode that indicated there perhaps was a deeper underlying cause that was beyond psychology. I insisted on seeing a psychiatrist and with some meds, there was a 180 degree change overnight. Gone was the aggression and tension within the family - the very thing that Jiayong was attempting to ‘help’ with. My suggestion to anyone looking for a psychologist or therapist - be open to meds (sometimes it’s a chemical imbalance) and most importantly, find a psychologist who has an open attitude towards medication; there are many in the field who have a biased view towards psychiatric medication to the detriment of the client’s mental wellbeing.

Last year, I had a few months of appointments with Max, at Newton-Winstedt, before going to university abroad. I would like to thank him for helping me through a very scary time, teaching me more about myself and techniques to think healthier. Up till today, I still use the same techniques when I am feeling dysregulated. He has been pivotal to my mental wellbeing. Thanks Max! Hope you have been well too 😊
