Anyone can and should learn how to grow their own edibles. The pandemic taught me the importance of being in touch with nature and creating a green sanctuary which provides a nurturing space for mental, spiritual, emotional and physical healing. Previously known by my friends as the Black Thumb of Death, I needed a mentor to teach me this important life skill. Under Jack’s expert guidance and uber knowledgeable mentorship, he showed me how easy it is to start an edible garden and within a year, I now have an urban edible garden along the common corridor that I can share with my animals and neighbours. We have shared the joy of gardening with my neighbours, by helping to rehab and repot my elderly neighbour’s plants which brought her immense joy and taught other neighbours how to grow their own edibles. Creating a green community infused with the kampong spirit. Our community library at Blk 2 Holland Avenue is now blessed with a small community garden that brings our neighbours together every day. Thank you Jack Yam The Midnight Gardener for always being so generous in teaching anyone interested in learning how to grow your own edibles - no matter your circumstances! We need more community green leaders and educators like him to create an eco-green conscious society!

Jack’s passion for plants is infectious! He has a knack for explaining things in a simple and memory friendly way. I’ve learnt more about gardening in the past 2 years (since getting to know Jack) than I have in my entire life!
