Reviews of Outram Community Hospital (OCH)
This is a relatively new Community Hospital for recuperation and recovery. The hospital is spacious and has ample parking space located at basement 3&4. The entrance to the carpark is a bit obscure and is located immediately to the left of the entrance to the hospital.
The lobby of the hospital was very windy and cool at night
My dad was hospitalised at OCH Ward 11C from 11 to 17 Feb 2023 due to breathlessness and giddiness. It was 2nd day of Lunar New Year but thankful the A&E doctor attended to my dad swiftly and he was allocated a bed within 2 hours or so. OCH was built in 2019 so the building and facilities are relatively new. There is a link bridge connecting from SGH to OCH. Ward 11 is located on 2nd highest floor so the bed that my dad had has a view facing Pinnacle@Duxton. The ward is air-conditioned (with individual fan) though it is only class C. The ward is cleaned and spacious, with 5 patients. The meals and fruits provided seem appetising.
There is a food court on level 2 with starbucks and subway on ground floor. There are also a small NTUC, Medical equipment shop, ATM machines and sandwich machine on the ground floor. Did not notice any vending machine available but in the ward there is a hot and cold water dispenser.
OCH is nearby National Heart Centre so it is accessible either to take SGH Blue shuttlebus from Outram MRT or about 7mins walk from the bus stop. Getting a taxi at the taxi stand is not easy unless try walking to the main road, else will need to call.
The nurses in the ward are mostly friendly and patient. With special thanks to a male nurse, Mr Jing Han Lin. He has eyes for details and has reminded his fellow nurses to apply the skin lotions and cream that my dad needs to apply daily without us requesting as I thought I could do it for my dad whenever I visit him. He would frequently check on the patients and assist them with good humour. His fellow nurses on duty often helped out each other and could feel the great team spirit they all share. Nurse Jing would update me my dad's progress whenever I visit and will pass my messages to the doctor promptly as I did not get to meet the doctors most of the time when I was there.
The doctors seem only make their rounds in the morning around 9-10am. In the afternoons when I was there, I have only met Dr Cheong briefly once. The investigations done by the doctors were thorough but progress rather slow. At times, the morning doctor would call to update me what tests they are going to do for my dad. Twice my dad was told that he could be discharged but the doctors decided against it last minute as they realised more checks needed. After a week's stay, the hospital has finally agreed to discharge my dad and to follow up as outpatient thereafter.
On the day of discharge, I have received a phone call from SGH pharmacy. The staff was surprised that the doctor did not call me first (I did not get to speak to any doctor in fact that day). She counselled me about dad's medication and arranged for the medicines to be sent to the ward in less than an hour, saving me the hazzle to walk all the way to pharmacy which is quite a distance to OCH.
All in all, with heart felt thanks to all the staff, nurses and doctors who have done their best for my dad and other patients. It was my dad's first hospitalisation stay in his 76 years, hopefully he will not be required to return again.
P/s: What a sweet surprise! Since 2 weeks plus after my dad's discharge, today I received a call from the OCH Ward 11C asking how my dad has been coping since discharged. Really heart warming as this is the first time I have received such follow up call from hospital ward ❤️
I would like thank the nurses and Dr June of Ward 11B for their care and concern towards my sister in Bed 17. She was warded due to a fall on 10th June 2024 and has since been discharged. It has not been easy for the staff during her stay and I would like to thank them for their patience in attending to her.
My hubby was warded in ward 7B bed 13 from 1 Nov to 18 Nov 2022. Would like to thanks the staffs, from doctors, therapists, nurses, service staffs and cleaners for the care given to my hubby. They really did a good job. Thank you so much. Well done.
My 5th day after my knee replacement surgery and 3rd day of stay at OCH. Whilst the nurses were very helpful and professional, I find the menu limited as there were only chicken, fish or vegetarian. Same for the western menu. No pork and no beef. The Muslim selections had Mutton on some days. Limitation of 2 visitors per time during visiting hours was not clearly informed. Pillow was too hard to sleep comfortably hence recuperation was not fully possible, as with most hospital environments. Not worth the price I’m paying as a private patient in a single room ward. Just stay in the subsidised wards and quickly get well and go home.
Today, 5th April 2022, I went to OCH to visit my mom, whom I have not seen physically for almost 2 years. With the recent reopening of visitation, which started yesterday, 4th April, I was expecting a more well-organized & well-informed system. Compared to the more than 4 TRACE Together teams of people, in the front, the checking-in team for visitors & caregivers, was only 02 makeshift tables.
The systems weren't promptly updated on the lists of nominated visitors as well. There wasn't any landline or work hp for the counter staff to call directly to the wards & get updates from the Nursing station on nominated names.
I had to call OCH myself to get the ward number & speak to the Nurses there to get approval. The lady attending at the counters were also frustrated & rather abrupt with their dealings with the people in line. They seem to lack any support, nor knowledge in how to figure out their next move. All in all, it took me over an hour to figure out how to resolve this, as the contacts I was given earlier weren't picking up. Which I took the initiative to call the ward on my own.
There were a lot of people losing their patience & tempers flaring. Elderly folks standing in line waiting to be attended to, so that they can visit their loved ones.
I would have expected that management would have had an earlier foresight for all this to happen.
My suggestion; open separate counters for caregivers & visitors. Caregivers are given free timing to visit, so they can use their own check-in area. Visitors have specific given timing, so open that for them. Promptly update the system so there'll be less confusion time taken.
Other then this "glitch" from management or those in-charge, thank you for keeping the patients safe.
My brother, Ong Chiew Seng, was transferred from SGH to OCH, ward 12A Bed 19 on the 27th May 2022. He passed away peacefully on 24 June 2022.
Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, therapist, social worker, and all staff of 12A. Throughout my brother's stay, he was well taken care of, with much patience, tolerance and attention.
Special mention to the team together with social worker, Sandy, who help set up a mini party for my brother's birthday! My family greatly appreciate the efforts put in by all of you.
Once again, a great big heartfelt thank you to all of you.
Outram Community Hospital is for people to go for medical review. It is a new and spacious Hospital.
I was at OCH WARD 7B from 8th Nov 2021. The nurses, the staff including janitors, the physiotherapist Sreeram, the Occupational Therapist Shu Hui and the Social Worker exhibited only excellence in their service, their attitude, and their grave responsibility. I was there after a bunion or Hallux Valgus surgery at sgh for rehabilitation purpose. The genuine care and respect they accorded me was way way beyond my expectations. Food choices were wide, and rooms and beds, toilets, chairs grab bars etc were sanitised frequently. Wow. Wow. Wow. Thank you all for making my recovery so speedy and so pleasant.
Our family would like to commend Nurse Chong Yow Hoong from Ward 10A for being caring and patient. Our dad was there after a short procedure and commented that Nurse Chong really helped him feel at ease in an unfamiliar and new environment.
Brand new hospital with 1 ward opening today (Ward 7B). Eateries and shops are not opened yet. Nearest shop is at National Heart Centre (opposite the community hospital). Foe those visiting relatives at this new hospital, bring your own food for the ab-initial days or risk trekking through the "mountainous terrains" of SGH in search for food!
I would like to compliment nurse Fatimah from ward 9A !
Thank u for the helpfulness and advice

I lim hock seng on December 16 (today), one week after I was admitted to Outram Park Community Hospital for the second time, living in Blk 10 A - Room 26. Since I couldn't go to bed and go to the toilet, I had to lie in bed after 6 hours. An enthusiastic nurse from India came to ask me if I wanted to go to the toilet. I've been in bed for three hours, so I didn't expect someone to show up and ask me about it. Because I was hospitalized many times, I was not used to using a urinal. She and another colleague later encouraged and assisted me, giving me time to slowly try it out, and I finished it. They are deeply grateful for their devotion to their job responsibilities and their patience in showing due professionalism. Hope the performance of Miss San Mei and Kariyawasam Shehani can be improved. I hope the hospital 🏥 can commend them on my behalf for their dedication to their work. I’m very grateful. Thanks!
