Reviews of Amara Singapore
Beautiful bathroom, nice room nice toilet. It's renovated and mostly great but you can spot some things that still show it's age. The pool is great and has sun about half the day. Location is easy for shopping and food. Across the street is a plaza with some shops and next door is a mall with a huge grocery store and more restaurants. Location is less touristy, I think this is the financial district with many Korean and Japanese restaurants. It's more in a neighborhood. You can easily walk to the heart of china town. Complaints - The AC and leakage of air into the room. The room always felt damp and when it rained I could smell rain. I reported it but nothing came out of it. The other was the lighting. Too many buttons and the bathroom light would automatically turn on blinding me at night. However, overall, great mid-range hotel in a quiet but convenient location.
Such a gem of a hotel: Located right in the heart of Tg Pagar, connected to the 100AM mall. The hotel has undergone extensive renovations. Rooms have been exquisitely redesigned and the new finishings do not disappoint. Really comfortable beds and superb air quality. Little touches like usb c charging ports built in to the sockets, soft lighting and more streamlined work space resonates well. Attention to detail by the staff is still evident, with Raymond still the face at the front of the house, ever welcoming, going above and beyond to ensure one's stay is comfortable.
Rooms are good. Recently renovated, the location is also good if u are into a business trip.
Thai restaurant over there was very nice
Was there for coffee. Excellent service by the Indian waiter who served us. My mum had a chill and was sneezing and he immediately came over with a cup of hot honey lemon. Cakes and coffee came in a set and the cakes were surprisingly good especially the chocolate mandarin orange cake.
Everything was great, enjoyed our stay there, the staffs were very friendly and helpful especially Mr.Raymond. This was our 2nd time staying at Amara and we will definitely go back there. The hotel is close by to most of the attractions and walking distance to Chinatown.
I think they have recently renovated the rooms, it was a completey different experience from the one I had last year. I stayed at level 6 which was the same floor as the gym and floor. The ceiling was much higher, and it made the room seems a bit more spacious. The bed was extremely comfortable and I couldn't bear to wake up at all. It had a walk in bathroom, so the clothes, luggages are more out of sight from the main sleeping area. Overall, a satisfying stay.
After a delay with our flight, Singapore Airlines housed us here for a few hours. Comfy bed, we slept well in and great food. Really helpful staff.
Outstanding hotel, fantastic staff, service and food were top quality. Was here with my family and the breakfast choice was great, something for everyone and high quality. Pastries were a stand out for me. Staff really make this hotel special
Around the corner from Tanjong Pagar MRT and lots of restaurants and eating places nesrby. The room is spacious and clean; asic amenities are provided in the room. Instead of using bottled water, drinking water tap is provided - thumbs up.
Breakfast was ok.
Very nice and comfortable hotel with all necessary arrangements. Just one minus is non availability of fridge in my room, hence in other it was there.
Visited last week. The lobby is one of the better ones I've seen. However, it does not match the rest of the hotel. You can tell it's old with the creaky elevator and smell of the hallways. We had booked a room for 3 adults and there was just a small bed for 2. I had to request for a separate one later. We asked for plates and they were dirty.
THE WORST PART - the bathroom doors! They are semi transparent and you can see everything the person is doing inside. Very very weird and uncomfortable for a family. Please get that changed asap!!!
But on the plus side - the location is great. Very accessible to everything. Chinatown is very close. The reception was kinder than the other hotels we visited. Breakfast was average. We saw better options in other hotels.
Overall, it wasn't an unpleasant experience, but it wasn't worth the money we paid. The hotel is undergoing renovation so i think it'll improve greatly soon.
Great hotel very good breakfast new and clean rooms very good
A four star hotel. Probably an aged property but well kept. Staff are super nice and accommodating. Breakfast is okay, and could've been better. Location is great as it is within the area of shops and restaurants. The quality of rooms needs to be better especially the washrooms. Around $190 per night.
Hotel is under renovation with day time noises. Interior is rather less maintained with wooden floor that’s worn out.Overall the location is good and Jigger & Pony right at the lobby. Probably not the hotel i would come back until they finished renovation.
Location is good! Mall is beside it walk within minutes! But the hotel need a upgrade especially the TV was so bad and small. Connection is really bad refer to the photo attached. Lucky the staff at reception is good enough to offer free ballon to my children and give me a connecting room ! Hotel keeping need to be better because the tissue paper and hand soap are not provided so have to call them to get it.
The room was spacious and clean. I enjoyed my stay.
The receptionist Mary was really nice and helpful! Will be back if I have a chance to go to Singapore again
The lobby of the hotel is very beautiful. I indicated booking for someone else on Agoda but the staff did not recognize my spouse's name and only found it being booked under my name. Housecleaning was still ongoing when given the keycard to the room. Room 1009 door is difficult to close - a lot of friction between the door and door frame, so need to slam it a little. The toilet is grand as it is large and almost fully marbled - floor and walls, but it is old and unpolished. The room phone is not working so need to use one own's phone to call the hotel to get to the operator who was a bit curt. The bed is very firm and hard, I wish it were softer. Appreciate the air-conditioning, refrigerator and swan-shaped folded towels on the bed on arrival. Room was spacious but slightly dim from the number of lights. Hotel buffet breakfast was nice with good variety and above average quality. Overall feeling is old and probably needs a renovation soon.
Location is very strategic. Around 200m only from the MRT station. However when entering the room, it smells old hotel.
I was ordering a laundry before 8 am in the morning which supposed to be returned in same day, but they haven’t washed it in the evening. Hope they can improve the housekeeping.
All good. Room is cozy too. However, cleaning of the room is not very thorough. Near to Mall a lot of food choice Facilities is tally 4 star quality. The hotel is a bit old, you could see some stains here and there, but not major, the room doesn't feel dusty as well. Service is great. Location superb (Across tanjong pagar hawker center and in the area where a lot of fancy cafe in, dept stores also pretty near). Great place to stay.
It was a stay for my birthday :) The staff told me she upgraded the room to a higher floor and would send a slice of cake, but we had to wait for a while as the staff were having their dinner. We waited for 30minutes and had to go out so we went to Reception and told them to just leave the cake in our room and also requested for extra toiletries. A different staff told us they would have to put the cake in the fridge or ants would come. We thought that was strange as why would ants come so soon unless there was already an ant nest existing in the hotel. Anyway we went out. When we returned almost close to midnight, there were the extra toiletries that we requested but no sight of the cake in the fridge or anywhere else. I guess this shows how sincere they were in giving me the cake for my birthday. So no nice supper snack to look forward to and we went to the nearby supermarket to get some snacks.Next day we went to check out the pool and I returned to the room first, but my card did not work. I went back to the swimming pool (level 3 i think) to get my roommate’s card and then back to the room, but his card did not work as well. So I went to the reception, and the staff did something to the card and handed back to me, and again I went up to Level 14 but it did not work! So I had to return to Level 1 reception again and there was a queue! I went to seek help at the Express checkout counter but the Uncle there pointed me back to the queue. Why couldn’t he help? By this time I was getting frustrated because I had a meeting and the laptop was in the room. Don’t understand what’s wrong with the hotel cards? Also, my booking included breakfast but the hotel staff did not mention anything about it to me upon check in. Luckily I brought it up and she told me that sometimes it does not match so we have to take note. So please take note.Other than the disappoin**ent about the cake and the card inconvenience, I enjoyed the bathtub, the good service of the breakfast staff who cooked my eggs, and the late checkout at 1pm.
Been here many times already. The rooms are quite big. I used to stay when there was a training conducted by my previous employer.
Booked again here this year - 03062024.
Booked here last year the same month.
They're actually doing some renovations at the lobby.
Location is great. Staff service was good but room was pretty dusty especially the wall at the head of the bed. Room not very sound proof. Good stay in general for a quick getaway.
Big rooms. The hotel is a bit old, but they have made efforts to modernize it.
The design of the bathroom could be improved. I like the motion sensor lights. There are a lot of good things about it, (gym, buffet, modernisation efforts, great location) but there are some little niggling things (very slow check-in, elevators not working, small low frequency sounds in the room) that keep the experience from being great.
Amara is at great location, close to public transport, shops, hawker centers and restaurants.
Hotel staff are very friendly, and accommodating. Rooms are neat and clean. Fantastic gym, not busy early mornings when I wanted to workout.
Beds had proper firm mattress. And actually gave us great comfortable sleep.
We will certainly stay there again and recommend it to others.
I had seen mixed reviews prior to my stay, however, I did not experience any of the negative experiences others have faced. I had a very modern room on the 6th floor, which was very aesthetic and had great features. Check in/out was seamless and hotel is well situated. I would certainly stay here again.
Many bad experiences on this hotel booking. 1) At Reception, there was only ONE receptionist attending to guests so checking-in took long, 2) The Receptionist forgot to tag in our booking that we have paid for 2-buffet breakfast. When we showed up for breakfast, we were turned away. We went to the Reception to show our booking confirmation, the Supervisor (appearing to be) blamed Trip.com for the mis-communication. 3) we requested for extra blanket, it took me 3 calls and 45 minutes before getting it. 4) There is no bidet in the toilet, no rubber sheet on the slippery floor, the bathroom fixtures are so low-standard (Room 1210). 5) When you include Buffet breakfast in your booking, they will not allow you to get food from the restaurant and eat in you own room (most hotels allow) and do not expect a lot of menu to choose from, they have very limited options.
Great location, but there were construction noise of the renovation on the same floor which was very annoying. And the construction noise start very early some time 8am. Or sometime you hear the drilling noise on the wall around 10am or 4pm
Hotel should be more considerate to arrange these activities in the better timing
At a recent company dinner event, I signed up for the Amara membership and booked a birthday staycation upon the recommendation of Freddy, the Head of F&B for the hotel.
I was looking forward to my stay and having a leisurely weekend with my husband in your esteemed hotel.
However, the check in experience was way below expectations. The reception team was severely stretched and the queue was badly managed. One of the staff Bernard promptly came forward to offer me a seat and bottled water while waiting for my turn. Unfortunately, due to the lack of attention, guests who came in after us were attended to thereafter.
Being the only person I knew personally in the hotel, I contacted Freddy for assistance and he met me in the lobby where he made sure that the check in was done properly, ensuring that the room charges and room allocation were accurate. He kindly explained that the 2 staff attending to me were new and the front office team was also facing a last minute manning challenge due to medical issues.
We were then escorted personally by him to our room, which to our surprise had been upgraded as for my birthday, thanks to the front office and reservations managers. I even had a fruit basket and pastries ready for me. Good pre-emptive save by these 3 departments.
The room was on a high floor and in need of a fresh coat of paint and carpeting. To be fair though, the amenities were sufficient.
Freddy mentioned that the hotel will be undergoing a huge renovation soon and I trust that everything will be elevated when we next return. For the coffee and tea selection, I am happy to learn that he is also working on getting individual coffee machines and maybe even TWG teas in for the more premium rooms after the renovation is completed. The shampoo and bath wash could also use an upgrade.
Overall, it has been a pleasant stay with generally friendly staff that was slightly marred by the check in experience. The 2 young staff at reception were trying their very best and could certainly do with better support from full time qualified professionals and more training. The management cannot expect new or inexperienced service staff in any department to handle the stress levels that could happen in a peak setting.
To Amara’s credit, Freddy has been going above and beyond to make us feel welcome both during our company dinner and this weekend. We have been very well hosted and I look forward to coming back again during the Christmas season with my children and grandchildren for a well deserved staycation.
All the best for the revamp!
I did not have a pleasant experience when I checked-in. Things that I have taken for granted when I booked a stay in the hotel room are not there. Like no shampoo but there is a conditioner. Phone line is not working, my free breakfast was not updated in the hotel system. I don't think I am asking too much as these should already be in the hotel room when any guests checked in.
Housekeeper Mdm Poa Lim Thye reversed my experience with her bright smile, friendly greeting as I stepped out of my hotel room grudgingly and her wonderful customer service. Fast work that she cleaned up my room, topped up the room with the needed amenities and made my room smell great!
She checked everything (even the curtains). I was impressed by her service. Well Done Madam Poa and thank you for making my day a better one!
Location is very good but hotel is old. Booked a suite but the extra room only comes with 2 additional sofa chairs. No additional sofa bed or couch, unlike some of the pictures.. food at the club is also so-so
My experience with Amara was very good. Check-in process was smooth and staff were also polite.
Room was spacious and view from the window was quite nice (my room was on 17th floor maybe that is the reason). They clean room every day and were really fast to resolve issues.
Breakfast was complementary and you get many options there for veg and non-veg both.
Location of the hotel is also very good, in front of the hotel there was bus stand and Tanjong Pagar MRT was only 50 or 100 meters away.
Only thing that I dislike about the hotel was that you don't get smart TV in rooms. They were old style TV and you had very less options to watch.
Ok hotel, not fancy. Room and bathroom was good. We had no breakfast so we didn't have anything to do with the restaurant staff. Check-in was quick. Prices for hotels in Singapore are pretty steep.
Only 2 remarks about the room: (1) if checked in with a child give an extra towel (not only this hotel), and (2) also dust the edges above the bed and frames of the mirror and TV.
The staffs at the restaurant where we had breakfast were really very unfriendly & not even attentive. There were not close to 10 people at the point where we came. There were no greetings by anyone there unlike other 5 stars hotel. Even just walk past us when they see we have used plates that needs to be cleared. Might want to look into your staffs who I believe a philipines lady & an indian guy who were on duty on 23rd may around 7 am. We had stayed at amara several times & even take the recommendation to stay at level 6 which was the premium room but after this experience we rather have special occasions at other hotels. Very disappointedWe do want to commend Raymond for his excellent service which had brought us back to Amara previously.Thank you.
It has excellent location advantages. The hotel is located near Market, bus stop, adjacent mall and MRTS Station of Tanjong Pagar which is considered to be a posh area. The hotel has moderately spacious rooms and restaurant. Staff are courteous. It has a standard restaurant at the ground floor.
There is everything good about it except that its rooms unmistakably have started showing too much ageing effects.
Manage to get a early check in at 12noon, free upgrade to the club suite at level 18. Was disappointed by the pool and didn’t see the jacuzzi. The gym was good. Breakfast was decent too.Overall was a good stay
Pros:
Lobby is pretty
Checkin very smooth
Staff are polite and helpful
Cons:
Room is old. Doors are thin so you could hear the next door…. And the sound goes out to the aisle too.
One thing to highlight, around 11:30pm when I walk out to look for snacks, there are a group of female escorts plus their “broker” sitting in the lobby (like 6 of them). I bet they are waiting for customers. It was quite a surprise to see them just sitting there and hotel staff being so used to them…
Was upgraded to the club room level and they use Roberto Cavalli bathing amenities! Good view looking at duxton. Food is everywhere around thus it was really convenient! Dabao the famous tian tian chicken rice back to the room to enjoy. Really good stay!
Was pretty nervous to stay here because of the reviews I read the night before I was supposed to check in. But honestly, it's really not bad. The rooms were clean, spacious and had a nice layout. I think it's pretty senseless to assume every hotel built in the 1980s will have a modern and aesthetic makeover to mimic things you see on Instagram or Pinterest. The room was well-kept and had no lingering dust as I'm really particular about that. The toiletries are fully furnished. Just that the shampoo and conditioner was lemongrass scented. So if that's not your thing, then you should bring your own.
The only comment I have is that the service is quite slow and unreliable. Check-in was quick and easy, we got to stay the top floor with just an Executive Room. However, I was promised via email, that a birthday cake (slice) was to be sent up to my room to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. When I called reception from the room, they said that it would be sent up either at night or the next morning. The cake was never sent. So by 1030pm, I grab delivered a makeshift birthday cake and candles to celebrate the birthday anyways. In the morning, we didn't get anything as well.
Also, for dinner, our restaurant we ordered food from did not provide us cutleries and so we phoned room service to no avail. We tried reception and got in but by the time we got our plastic utensils, we had already finished eating our food... With the teaspoons for coffee... :( (and trust me, we were eating at a leisurely pace)
Overall, it's nothing too bad that I wouldn't come back again. I think I might have also been lucky with the room since I booked a high floor as well.
An
Amazing place to stay in the heart of the city. Its nestled amidst all popular placed and highly reachable from all attractions like marina bay, chinatown, maxwell etc. The MRT (metro) is super near to the
Property which makes it a big plus. The staff is amazing and we were welcomed with a big warm smile and all in house services were great. The buffet options are versatile and well planned.
Shall visit again, a big thumbs up AMARA!
Just stayed there for a night as We had a flight next morning..Warm Welcome by Ms Kasthurie & Mr. Raymond( he also gave soft Toys to our kids).. Such an amazing people to welcome you and guide you in every possible way... The only issue was NO Indian restaurant near by...Rest all good...Thank you once again.. will surely visit again...
My room was missing the TV remote, called 3 times and they said they will look into it, went down to the reception 2 times and they said they will check on it. I checked out without watching the TV at all. Room cleanliness was generally okay.
I’m a local.
Cons: Rooms looks q run down. Our curtains had stains and the furniture is a little old. The bathroom is a 2-door type swinging type, and one of the handles were lost. Iron has burnt calc coming out of the steam function despite the machine labelled ‘anti-drip/calc’, and it also dripped but just a little bit. Safe could do with a padding/mat on the base. Pillows are a little too soft. Shower stall area for placing toiletries is small. No bidet for toilet.
Pros: Aircon works well, beds are comfortable, toilet lighting is excellent for makeup, rain shower is okay (didn’t try the bathtub and shower head), location is great. Work desk area very spacious and plus is conveniently placed at the table without having to unplug anything to use it. There are 2 phones in the room, one by the bedside and one on the work desk which is convenient. Super single beds are spacious. Room is also spacious for 2. Towels are absorbent (they have thin and thick ones. Thick ones are heavy but still both good).
Reception is 5 stars, had to wait a bit when checking in but it was fine. Another group were waiting for a while alrd, and when one of the counters were open for check in, the lady serving us immediately told the other counter staff to serve them immediately saying they’ve waited for DAMN long alrd (which I thought was great customer awareness) and then went back to serving us hahahaha. It also reflects very well on their customer service that they reply to customer reviews on google, good or bad.
Most importantly, I brought my laptop and work mobile phone with me during my 3D2N stay, and while my friend decided to keep hers in the safe, I just left mine on the work desk. It was fine.
Long list of cons, but the pros outweigh them, they deserve their 5 stars. I don’t prefer to spend locally on accoms in my home country but will highly recommend Amara to my friends who do. 👍🏻
Didn’t test the wifi speed cos I didn’t need it.
Looks new from outside. It's old when you go inside your room. This hotel is in need of refurbishment. Minor defect here and there cannot be ignored. Location is good for this are of the city country. Easy to find food in the surrounding areas.
Loved the place, great location with a variety of restaurants nearby to choose from, the only thing that might need to take note is that there aren't many amenities in the room, so might need to prepare some of your own
Good hotel. Staff was very polite and good service. Room for improvement, their SHN meal like porridge could have come with soy sauce. Other than that the hotel has a variety of amenities around it like 100AM mall and opposite there is a food court and within walking distance to Tanjong pagar mrt station. Great location and easy to get around.
Very good location and comfortable stay in this Hotel. Will rebook it when visiting Singapore next time.
In addition, it was my birthday when checking in to Amara Singapore, my friend sent me a cake which was kept by the hotel. The Hotel gave me canddles when I requested when collecting the cake. All in all, a very good hotel with dedicated staff and services.
Great deal and hotel is in a prime location with aplenty of food and shopping. However, the room looks old with mouldy bathroom and dirty carpet. Overall still a good experience
First time having Afternoon Tea here. Surprising good. Very suitable for the (SE)Asian palate. And its very very affordable. Love the durian cream puffs. This is coming from a person who doesn't even eat durian!
Following a delayed flight making the transfer impossible, the airline accommodated us at the Amara Singapore. We arrived in the middle of the night very tired and slightly stressed due to the situation. Oonah welcomed us with great kindness, a smile, and completely reassured us about the situation, strongly encouraging us to take advantage of this unforeseen stopover in Singapore.|Regarding the room, we greatly appreciated the quality of the towels, perfect mattress and pillows! Excellent quality of sanitary facilities as well, and absolute cleanliness. Well soundproofed rooms. The only negative point for us is the absence of a hairdryer.|As for meals, a very professional and extremely warm welcome from Yoges in particular, whom we would also like to thank.|Overall, we found the staff very professional and attentive.|We really enjoyed our short stay at the Amara hotel.|A big thank you to Oonah, Yoges without forgetting Adil for his great kindness. They transformed what was a hassle for us into a very pleasant day.
Due to airline delays, I came to Singapore for a day trip by accident. We arrived at the hotel at three o'clock in the morning. The service staff Mary introduced us to us very carefully and patiently, and was also very active in helping us change rooms. We felt very happy and hoped to have the opportunity to visit this hotel again! I am really honored to have this experience. My family and I had a very comfortable day!
December 2024
Excellent experience, new/renovated location, spacious rooms, central location, varied and abundant breakfast
Sabrina and Stefano
We spent 2 nights at the Amara Hotel on the edge of the Chinatown district. The staff were very friendly and the service was very good. Despite our early arrival, we were able to get into our room straight away and had the option of a late checkout at no additional cost due to a late flight back. The room was clean and very large. The great service from the reception (Oonah, Leslie and Ethan) helped us with any questions we had. With the bus stop right in front of the door and an MRT stop that can be reached within a few minutes, you can quickly get to all other parts of the city. |We particularly liked the breakfast because it was intercontinental, but there were also some freshly prepared Asian specialties. |All in all a very nice stay.
The rooms are not very new, decorated in oriental style, located in the heart of the city. Convenient to travel, close to the BTS and bus stops. The breakfast buffet is very complete. It is considered to be a hotel in the heart of the city for people who are not comfortable sleeping in a small room, but the price is not too expensive.
Very good hotel, very good renovated rooms with a very good bed. What's a bit irritating is that the sink is in the hallway. Opposite the shower room and the toilet room. The wardrobe is no longer necessary.
The pool is very nice but there are only loud construction sites around it.
The breakfast is very good.
There are many shopping opportunities opposite and it is not far to walk to Chinatown.
It seemed like a standard hotel without any particular inconvenience. The lobby and entrance are spacious with high ceilings, and there is a seating area for cars, so the entrance feels exciting. ^_^ Maybe it was just a coincidence, but the room had a humid smell. The cleaning was done properly and it was beautiful, so I had no problems ♪ There seems to be a pool and gym, but I didn't have time to go there (⌒-⌒; )
It took about 30 minutes by taxi from the airport and cost about 3000 yen! Recommended for those who have something to do near the office area!
