Reviews of Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre
Complete traditional market (for me), can find a lot variant of chilies, green tomato, which is not there in wet market near my house. So happy! And lot of halal food also in level 2.
Very nice building. Architecturally very beautiful. It stands in contrast to its surroundings.
It has many eating places, cheap and must be good. Assists to be very popular with local Malay people.
Other side of the building has many small shops selling dresses. They are also very inexpensive.
After going to it every Ramadhan period every year, it feels that they always have something new to offer - some weird some wonderful but generally the newer ones always have a higher-end target market (sometimes a rip-off).
The beloved Ramly burger never us probably the only constant among all the changes there - always tastes nice, cheap, and always have super long queues but it's worth it!
Geylang Serai Market opened after a major refurbishment. Spikes to keep away birds, new floor tiles, roof, pipes, lots of flora. It looks a lot better now. Well down NEA and other agencies.
Nice market to get stuff for home cooking. A great variety of vegetables, and other cooking ingredients.very crowded during the weekend. Spices (for different type of curry) stall here is good. Many nice yummy malay food stalls too. Good to come in the morning if trying out these stalls. Many close in the afternoon.
Whatever it is you need, it's going to be here. Literally everything under the Sun can be found.
Very busy this week with the Gaylang Ramadan Festival, but that adds to the buzz and more. Lots of new vendors and street hawkers out for the festival and unlike some places, the prices don't jump to twice the cost.
There are various kinds of cheap food suitable for breakfast. This place is also located with a shopping center for shopping for clothes etc. To get to this place, you only need to walk from the hotel area
A traditional market. I went here because there are more than 3 types of briyani sold here. End up only tasting one because the Uncle at the shop gave me free refill of my briyani.
Busy market, lots of variety. I like seafood stores here with many types of seafood, price is much cheaper than supermarket, fresher.
A really great place to explore your malay food options but do check when is the cleaning time.
Update: 28th July 2024, entire geylang serai market will be closed for upgrading for 3 months..
**** Update : 1st Nov 2024
This market is officially reopen..
Just to remind buyer. Careful to this shop selling dress no 02-98 very near to staircase, shop have no name. He have 4 unit there.
The guy will see your face then give you very high price. No price tag, not honest, taking advantage. Try not to stop over the shop, and ignore the shop.
Another advice ask price first to all the shop there if no price tag.
Be a smart shopper.
I visited in the afternoon but many stalls were already closed for the day. I will be back to try their famed nasi Padang and briyani! So instead, I enjoyed some putu piring, tahu telor and Ice Halia at Mr Teh Tarik on level 1.
They called it geylang bazar I love this place bcoz of the variety of the foods! So much tasty n unique food u got Here. Like prawn vadai, lobster roll beef kuib and mostly halal.
The best place for both wet and dry produce. Almost everyday is crowded. Food can be better, mainly Malay cuisine
Excellent place to see the real Singapore. If you want to by some groceries and fresh fish is the place to be !
Great selections of halal food. There's food court, clothing ahopsa, and fresh market.
We tried the ayam penyet store ... not that great
Best to go b4 1550 hrs, about 90% stalls already closed for the day.
My 1st time going there around 1600 hrs, there's only about 10 to 15 stalls opened, can't have a good taste of the Muslim Food and end up eating "Indian Mee Goreng" from this stall🤫🤭🤗
Very nice to visit during fasting month. A lot of interesting things to purchase in the spirit of Malay culture.
Very nice place to feel the local vibe !!!
Wet market for fresh meat and seafood at cheap price .
And the 2 level hawker centre ... yum !
Tried the laksa and the iced teh tarik at the 1st level .... yum !!
Laksa stall ppl were very friendly
On the top floor of the Malay Market, this floor of F&B bustles with a large array of local foodstuff (more Malay type food). It was my first time ever visiting this place since it was revamped some years ago. A plethora of food items and you will need to be with people who frequent this place. Their insights to what’s good helps you in making some decisions. There are many shops selling similar items, but shops that are one of a kind should be uniquely ‘good’.
What I thought were the unique ones:
Chng Teng
Appam Balik Pinang
Otak-Otak
Apologies for the spelling errors for the items above.
The place was windy and did not feel stuffy whilst I sat to eat some satay (beef and chicken).
Giving it a three star because it was not a full joy for me - a personal choice of different food types. Might come back for the Appam Balik Pinang one day.
It doesn’t matter what time of the day (or night) you visit, this place is always full of life and friendly people. Everyone knows the food is some of the best on the east coast, but it’s the beverages and desserts I come back for. Cheng tng or cendol, it’s all A grade! I hope this place never changes.
Nice place to eat. Lots of food variety and clean area. I tried Nasi Ayam Bakar PakDin & cendol. Can give 4.5 star rating. Recommended to local or foreigners.
The food court offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere with a diverse range of economical dining options. The friendly staff and inviting ambiance create a pleasant dining experience. A great place for budget-friendly meals without compromising on quality
Putu piring a once ubiquitous dessert but these days found in only a few places is the star of the place, followed closely by teh halia.
Great night market during the month of Ramadan. Super crowded. Super hippy place. Food is slightly pricey and the night market is quite stuffy and hot
If you're looking for Malay food, this is the place. However, you would need to get used to the smell of raw meat coming from the wet market below.
Here i love to shop for fresh prawns , mackeral or batang fish as they are fresh and cheaper than most market.
Everything ok. Nice food. Hopefully after renovation got more improvement.
Rendang, sambal petai ikan bilis, dendeng, telur dadar and more. A big breakfast for 6 at $96. A tad pricey but good value for what we're eating. Sedap lah.
Can find many things under 1 roof particularly malay and Moslem related food stuffs and accessories.
I love Sinar Pagi stall at level 2. Always long Q. Other than that I love the mutton soup located in the last row of the food centre near staircases closer to Wisma geylang serai.
A good place to visit wet market to buy daily, weekly groceries. Reasonable price and can bargain. Can also visit the 2nd level to have eat local malay food.
I love to go here as i can get all food that i want to eat. Some of the items are slightly high and the stall owners are very friendly.
The best place for Malay food in Singapore. Widest variety available. Best to come either in the mornings or lunchtime.
Lots of instagrammable food from the Bazaar which is during Ramadhan period (may-June)
Geylang Serai Market exceeded my expectations! The vibrant atmosphere, rich cultural heritage, and tantalizing array of food stalls made it a truly memorable experience. From mouthwatering Malay cuisine to traditional handicrafts, there was something for everyone. The friendly vendors and bustling crowds added to the charm, creating a lively ambiance that immersed me in the local culture. Whether you're a food lover or seeking a taste of Singapore's heritage, Geylang Serai Market is a must-visit destination. It's an authentic and delightful melting pot of flavors and traditions. Highly recommended!
Best place to taste Malay cuisine menu at reasonable price.
Come to the Market level 2 to Sang Nila Drink stall to buy your Raya cookies especially Suji Cookies .. mamamia !!! Its the Best ..!!!!
Try the nasi lemak there, it's really good. My friend had the hand made noodles and loved it .
Many food stall to choose and fresh raw meat and vegetables to buy.
Food mostly nice. Some not nice ones, avoid them so that they can go somewhere else. No standard, don't sell at gaylang
Service generally ok, except for some stalls, the owners talk like want to smack their face
Atmosphere: noisy and hard to get seat on wkends. Dirty also, with birds droppings and bird trying to eat yr food!
My goto pasar for chicken wings. WA my vendor, he readies it for my collection.
And place to eat all the rempah & spices too!
Wonderful pasar Malay Market Enclave where you can find cheap produce and halal meat. It's a giant wet market with a hawker center in the 2nd floor lined with wonderful Halal Authentic Malay dishes and foods.
Best time to visit the food centre is morning after 8am. Most stalls will be closed by 3pm.
Peak periods are during weekend morning.
Not local but as a tourist here. Been here back in 2013/2014, not much changes at the market area but still affordable, delicious and cheap food.
The food court area at the upper level are kind of full between 8.30am to 9.30am. Need to make few round until you found table to dine.
Locals are okay with sharing tables.
Toilet is clean during my visit.
Best Kambing Soup & Mee Kuah ever!! Highly recommended!!
Crowded but there are many good food to eat here.
One of my favourite wet markets in Singapore 🇸🇬. Great selection of fish and meat, including mutton and beef, which is hard to find in many neighbourhood markets. Mainly serving the local Malay community, this market also has a wide array of spices.
Wet market at lvl 1, where you can get poultry, fish, meat, veggies, fruits and even frozen or dry food items. There's swee heng, Al Barakah too.
At lvl 2 is where you can find the hawker ctr consisting wide array of malay and indian cuisines (from mee rebus to nasi padang, chapati to briyani and soup kambing, snacks like apam to chee kong). On the other end, you can find plenty of muslimah clothings as well.
Weekend mornings are the busiest but best time to grab gorceries. The market is also linked to wisma geylang serai via lvl 2.
Friendly vendor at Berani Express..nasi takda takut takut😁 just kidding. Serving with a smile and warm welcome. Thank Sir/Mdm👍👍👍👍👍
Yummy 😋
Always lookforward to go geylang market at least once a month to eat the good rendang limpa from nenek obek's stall. Many good food there also like the mee siam from the indian rojak stall that is always sold out early. Many stalls there selling good food.
I want to try something different with the locals. And, I got it. It's very Asian.
Lots of choices on all types of foods. Prices are better than the large retail supermarkets. Plus the appeal of local shopping and chatting
Geylang Serai is a 1 stop solution to all your cooking needs and it is affordable.
Delicious local malay foods......
If you like nasi biryani, nasi padang or Indian rojak you should visit Geylang Serai Market and Food Center. Besides good Malay and Indian food, the ground floor has a market with a good variety of stalls selling spices and dried food stuff if you're shopping for your home cooking.
the famous Geylang Serai Market is a must-visit! food is great. there’s a few different shops which sells different types of kuih you can pick and choose from. Customers can also ask for items from other shops
The food centre is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, with its wide range of mouth-watering dishes such as nasi padang, satay, mee goreng, roti prata, and laksa. The food is prepared fresh and cooked to order, making it a great spot for those looking for authentic and affordable Malay cuisine
The Briyani shop is amazing!
Prices for both mutton and chicken biryani are the same $7.00. Quantity is slightly less compared to others. But the taste is 100 percent satisfying.
Must try it while visiting to Geylang area
A good place for you to purchase all your spices, herbs, fresh and dried food. There's a taxi stand nearby the market where you do not need to walk too far away. Nearby the market there's a shopping mall too for you to chill~
Great place for individual traveller
Done my weekly marketing here. You can all that you need here. Fresh and reasonable price. Main attraction is the variety.
Temporarily closed~Rumor has it that they are going to be putting in a roller-coaster!
Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre is a food lover's paradise! This bustling market offers a wide variety of delicious Malay and Singaporean cuisine, with something for every taste and budget.
The hawker stalls at Geylang Serai Market serve up some of the most authentic and flavorful dishes in Singapore. From traditional favorites like Nasi Lemak and Mee Goreng to lesser-known gems like Putu Piring and Apam Balik, there's always something new to discover.
The atmosphere at Geylang Serai Market is lively and vibrant, with friendly vendors and patrons all around. The market is also clean and well-organized, making it easy to navigate and find your way around.
Overall, Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the rich and diverse flavors of Malay and Singaporean cuisine. It's a true foodie destination and a great spot to explore and enjoy delicious food in a lively and authentic setting. Highly recommended!
Cheap eatery with many meal options.
Today's visit was not the 1st. Today I had a brunch of Chicken Briyani($7) with hot ginger tea. Bought kuih apam pulau pinang , peanut and corn flavour, 3 for $7. Kuih talam and putri salat $5 for 5.
From level 1 , bought raw beef for curry , 1 kg for $12 and half kg of ribs at $6 . Half kg of ikan bilis at $12.
Frozen items - prawn and squid amd etc. Chicken masala powder , made on the spot , 1 packet at $2. 1 pkt of ready fried shallots..🙂
The Malay Market is definitely a good place to endulge yourself in yummy good foods. But considering that the place is overcrowded, i would give this place a 3 star. As the Malay Market is only opened once in a year, it's expected that there are many visitors. However, if you enjoy shopping and eating, this is the place for you, though you might need to tolerate the big crowd.
Authentic Malay cuisine - nasi Padang, mee Soto etc. love the mee rebus at stall #139 - $3.50 and also mee Soto ($3) at warung solo. Awesome place to content yourself with food
lot of malay traditional food....the price a reasonable
Always love to visit this place. Many items not available on neighborhood markets can easily be found here. Especially the seafood section.
Depends on the timing of visit, expect some difficulty in finding parking slot (even though now surrounding properties offering private parking).
So many food choices on 2nd floor food court, from snacks and tidbits to proper meals. And all food I'd tried are yummy 😋.
2pm. After lunch hour. More seat but less shop open. Not to crowd. Carpark nearby and alot. So no problem with that. Careful don show off or you will be ask for begger. Wet market below 1st floor. F&B on 2nd floor and garmet shop. For wheelchair user, lift at center. Birds everywhere. Don worry it just do cleaning for you. Come and see for yourself.
Too many to choose from and spoilt for choices. Can be very crowded and hard to find seats. Most are reasonably priced.
Heaven for halal food is here, you can choose what you want to eat, the prices are not heavy on your pocket. Even though it's in the market, the place is clean. Order food and pick it up yourself. Return plates and glasses to the collection point so they are neat again
Currently under renovation and not open. The hawker center diagonally opposite is also very good
If you want to taste dishes from the one awarded with a Michelin star you have to be patient and wait in line because there are always people who want to taste their dishes.
Local places like this are relaxing.
The market was closed, but it was clean and odorless.
Revisited on September 5th.
There was a line so I tried it.
This 3-piece set costs $15
The first time I couldn't eat it all.
The taste...not so much.
It's not bad.
When you come to Geylang Serai Market and nearby commodity stores, you can experience the living atmosphere, food and daily necessities, and cultural activities in the Malay ethnic area; from here, go south along Joo Chiat rd to Katong rd. I like the walking route, you can see the beautiful colors of the Southeast Asian architectural style left by the British colonial rule, reflecting the current appearance of different groups of people such as traditional industries, restaurants, bars, hotels and grocery stores!
One of the morning markets selling various spices, vegetables, fruit, fresh fish near Paya Besar. The price is quite cheap, there are also rare items such as starfruit. Most charge 1 dollar for seasoning. There is a hawker center too, mostly Indonesian and Malay people.
This is a place where you can buy raw ingredients at a low price at a traditional market.
However, the area near the butcher shop is said to be a lot cleaner than in the past, but it may smell or be a little dirty, but I think it is a convenient and well-financed place to shop because each ingredient booth is lined with similar ingredients.
There are cheap and delicious restaurants on the second floor.
