Reviews of 6th Avenue Wanton Mee
Though 1st time here, I skipped the usual wanton mee and instead ordered the Pork Rib noodle as recommended by one of the reviewers here and what a good recommendation that was. Pork Ribs were well seasoned and so tender that the soft bones were easily chewable. The meepok however was too heavy on the soy sauce and too light on the chilli though it was well cooked.
The store is abit out of the way and only makes sense if ure in the area.
The noodles was ok but nothing special.
The wanton is nice though
Overall above average but not worth travel
I was walking home from Guthrie House and saw that they were still open when I walked by the coffee shop. There were only 2 people in the line, which is a rare occurrence, so I decided to pack some home for lunch. The last time I bought the Wanton Mee there, I waited for 40 mins, so I always avoided buying if there's a line. Today, with 2 people in front of me, I waited for 15 mins, which is not bad for this stall. I'm not sure if it's worth a 40 min wait, but the Wanton Mee is pretty good. The noodles are cooked really well with just the right springyness. Quite a generous portion for $4.30 a portion with sizable wantons, which includes the takeaway charge. Recommended to try if you're in the area.
Pros: Springy noodles,
Daaaaamn good wanton maybe due to high fats 🤪
decent portion,
affordable/reasonably priced,
queue is shorter at lunch time 11+am than breakfast time,
cheap roadside parking if you are patient to look for a lot
Cons: dry char siew, chilli not spicy enough
A traditional noodle stall that's very reasonably priced. A rare find in this neighbourhood. I enjoy the nostalgic experience. Expect to queue a bit to order. I don't think they open for dinner.
Ordered this wanton noodles with chicken feet add on. Overall chewy noodles and old school style noodles sauce and the wanton is reasonably infill with meat. The only improvement will be the char siew as it is “a bit dry” and the chicken feet will be better if it have been cooked longer for a more softer texture.
The queue speaks for itself. We enjoy having a variety of food to share and Good Good Eating House (which the stall sits in) offers a good variety of “side dishes” such as popiah, chwee kueh, pastries and Cai fan next door . On 26 aug 2022, we sat next to the popiah stall, the silver hair stall helper of the wanton mee stall saw us sharing a plate of their stall’s - twirling up little mounds of noodles and coating them in the black sauce before the quick transfer from plate to mouth, an attempt to prevent any falls / spills onto the table. she rushed over with a pair of scissors and went snipping away to shorten and open up the bundle of noods. That was an unexpected, attentive and sweet gesture which made our morning exceptionally very special 🍲
Luckily that I joined in the queue earlier at around 11pm cos the crowd started to come after that. The price $4 is cheap for this serving of mee with a bowl of 4pcs wan tan. So far, this is one that could taste the most similar to the one I had in Malaysia. Not sure if because I opted not spicy. Just make sure to give your order to the person inside cooking and not to touch a single thing at the grandma section. She will prepare all the things for you and let you know it is ready to pick up your tray.
Old school and long-standing stall with a fervent following.
Pros:
Sauce is between the light to dark range and noodles are the nice eggy ones that soak up the sauce well. Handmade wantons and dumplings are good.
Cons: Char Siew is average and not in house. Long queue and ends when runs out. Prices above average.
Was in the vicinity for work and decided to try the noodles. It was not a let down! Reminded me of the nostalgic taste of wantan mee of yester years. It’s just ashamed that this location can be a little off and it will not be a deliberate attempt to just travel down for it. Value for money, considering that it’s located in an expensive neighborhood. When you are in the area, do drop by. Do take note that parking can be an issue especially during the usual meal times
Needs no intro as long queues & hard parking. But too distinct & wonderful old school taste not to review. From unique thinner mee (May need flossing after meal) Al dente, vinegar chilli, plain looking but oh so fresh slice, can taste faint stint of star-anise meat marinate (Enjoy slowly) 83 yr old ah ma with 40yr experience still stands in front! Where else to find value at $4.50 & all so fine labour of love
food is really solid, mushrooms are a little salty but the noodle is super QQ and well seasoned! however bear in mind if you’re planning to drop by, the wait is really long.
Very very average wanton mee, only popular because that's the only one in this area. Grumpy service and the canteen always lacks sitting due to its configuration of tables.
Overall a very good plate of noodles. Flavour and texture are correct and the soup has a distinct taste of ikan billis.
Would definitely go again.
Excellent quality of prawn dumplings. Noodle very fresh and spongy. Use to buy take away and noodles/dumpling still fresh after 6 hours! Daughter of founder serving. Service very good and at 5.30 am good food for breakfast.
Old school wanton mee.
Ran out of dumpling so ordered more wanton instead. Al dente noodles coated with a savory sauce.
Those who like strong flavors will like it.
Nice noodles, but do expect to wait up to 5 mins per person who’s queuing in front of you. Wait times are up to 40mins during lunch rush.
Stall owner takes one order and cooks one dish at a time so it’s best to come early morning or around 10am (after breakfast rush and before lunch rush)
Good stuff. Noodles are the thicker kind. Slight alkaline taste in the mee, but sauce and wontons are great. Char siew is average
Pretty good noodles Usually go for the dumpling noodles cos the char siew is the traditional coloured meat. Only bad thing is the preparation is pretty slow resulting in long Q.
Noodle is good but the char siew is a bit weird and dry. Queue expected at the stall but not too long. Only 3.5$
Pretty good wanton noodle! Traditional, just the way I prefer.
Very different from Eng's and Pontian.
The teh bing and kopi bing are also very good!
Ask to add chilli but don’t know whether is it added because no spicy at all.
Long queueing time as elderly ladies are slow, though they're pleasant and speak Cantonese. Wan tan noodles quite nice, but not particularly special. They also sell fried yong tow foo noodles which look good.
Good wanton noodle..the taste bring back good memories of my early work at Gutheries House in the late 80s early 90s. The noodle cooked just right and not too springy. The sauce on the dried noodle was mixed well with a little spiciness of the chilli sauce.
The soup and the wanton is something I miss most and still stay true after so many years. The soup can taste the sweetness from the pork bone used. The filling in the wanton is well not mixed with good proportion of fat n lean meat and taste good.
Must go wanton noodle if u at the 6th Ave or Bukit Timah area.
I’ll come back for the dumpling noodles - their braised mushroom is out of this world!
Very good wonton noodles. I had pork ribs noodles and my wife had the wonton noodles with extra wonton. I have to say they are both very good. That is why there is always a queue there. One of our favorite place when we needed a local fix.
Wanton noodles and yong tau fu are really good. Noodles are slightly chewy and the wontons delicious!! My favourite noodle shop... prepared by the same aunties for a few decades! Prices are also very reasonable...
I always get the wanton mee char siew noodles since it's so good I'm afraid to try anything else. Good value at $3.50, and situated in an open air kopitiam surrounded by birds singing in the trees. Great spot for lunch if you're in the area!
So good! Noodles is not.too soft and that big heap of char siew is lean and tasty ; importantly the wan tons are tasty and delicious. Will be back for more ....
I occasionally had my breakfast at 0600 am here on the way to work , clean environment n happy stalls staffs willing to serve you
Came here with high expectations but realized it doesn't have the sweet taste like my kind of old school wanton mee which I loved. Don't really enjoy it.
best wanton mee in terms of value and taste in at least Bukit timah, maybe even Singapore
Good wanton mee and friendly stall owners.
Salute to the old lady helping at the stall. Will visit again
Very long Q and usually only wonton noodles left by 11AM
Unique awesome taste. Try the pork ribs noodles
Ben eating here for more than 20 years. Still as good as ever
Nice char siew to go with the wanton. Usually has long Qs
Same old same old standard. Good old familiar taste though the world has moved .
Great wan tan mee for breakfast!
One of the best oldies WanTon mee....
Springy noodles Hong Kong style
New signboard! But food’s the same! Shook!!!
My favourite especially the sauce
Worth waiting!
Whats the hype about?
Good food!
One of the best
