Reviews of Fa Ji Minced Meat Fishball Noodle(發記肉胜鱼圆面)
Yummy heartwarming bowl of bak chor mee in Kovan Market. The spiciness was just right for me and the vinegar brought up the savouriness of the overall dish. The noodle portion was really generous. Coupled with the fish ball and freshly cooked minced meat, you can expect a very satisfying meal.
Despite mixed Google reviews, it is to me a decent and enjoyable bowl of Bak Chor Mee, or minced meat noodle. It is very flavourful and rich. I like the braised mushroom and chilli here. There is minced meat in the accompanying soup. Compared to the stall beside selling the same dish, the style here is entire different, but each has their own merits. If you like that rich savoury feeling in your bowl of Bak Chor Mee, then this is the one.
Short Q during lunch time. Ordered Mee Pok Dry. Soup a bit blend. Noodles texture just nice, sauce is normal. Just confused if this is the authentic Bak Chor Mee? $4 for the bowl is average.
Pro;
Convenient location
$4 big serving with stronger flavours, a slices of fish cake, minced meat, mushrooms and pork lard.
The noodles texture was great! QQ
The vinegar and chilli blended just nice.
The soup base strong Favour and not salty.
Con; long Q but processing quite fast.
I have tried all three stalls and this is the best!
For those who like Stronger flavours can try this stall.
A good bowl of curry chicken noodle, the $5 is very satisfying with nice taupok. The chicken is not as tender as I would have liked. The gravy is the same as their laksa gravy, which was quite watered down. Perhaps because it was alrdy night time and they added water to it? Not worth the usual long queue but a fair meal if the queue is short, which was the case today.
My favourite noodle stall and have been eating their mee Lok for the last 10 years every week. Standard is always consistent and the queue is always consistently long too. The portion is just nice and flavourful, noddle texture is great and of coz mixed with the chilli and vinegar, the combination taste is just awesome
If you’re in the heartland and craving something comforting, don’t miss out on this delightful kuey tiao soup.
Very good bak chor mee indeed!
I was particularly impressed by the springy texture of the cooked noodles that literally bounced off my teeth in every bite.
Seasoning was perfect too. You could taste the unmistakable flavours of crispy pork lard, aromatic fried chilli paste, black vinegar, delish meat juices from the bak chor, and the umaminess from the stewed shitake mushrooms, all orchestrated into a really flavoursome sauce for the bowl of perfectly cooked noodles. The fish ball, pork ball and sliced fish cake just added more bouncy notes to every mouthful of the good grub.
But the soup was nonedescript -- normal at best.
This is certainly a quintessential bowl of bak chor mee, and I can see why people make a beeline for it and long queues form up quickly during the peak hours. I'm just lucky to have avoided the crowds when I swung by during the off-peak hours! ✌😄
There are 3 fishball bak chor mee stalls in this market and Fa Ji is my favourite for its sauce mix with chilli and crispy pork lard. Been patronising this stall for close to 20 years now and seen the handing over from father to son.
This store is very popular amount the people at Kovan food centre. There is always a queue at the store. The popular food there is minced meat fish ball noodle.
One of my favourite stall in the bustling gawker centre. The Laksa gravy is rich and aromatic, and the saltiness is just nice. Price is reasonable and portion is just right for hungry stomach. Will visit again.
Still one of the better Bak Chor Mee in the Kovan Food Center. The fresh pork lard is Da bomb! Generous with ingredients. Very chatty 2nd Gen hawker, don't see the dad around so much recently. Somehow the dad does it a bit better than the son.
Most value for money and my favourite mee pok tar (dry) in SG. Not stingy with ingredients (or tasty soup you can ask for refill).
I have been eating this since secondary school about 13 years ago. The same uncle is there, sometimes I see his family (dad and son i believe). Uncle recognizes me sometimes and give a friendly welcome or nod.
The key difference between this store and all the other stores in "consistency". The taste and amount of ingredients, service are almost similar through the years. They do serve laska and curry chicken mee as well!
It usually takes its last order before 7.30pm on weekends so please come earlier to avoid the disappointment =)
For $5, the taste is quite normal, nothing to wow about. Hygiene also a bit not good.
Read positive reviews on the noodles of their chilli and pork and pork lard. Bought 5 packets requesting more chilli and pork lard. There's no pork lard in any of them!!! A really great disappointment, nevertheless the chilli makes up for it. Not bad actually, only thing is no PORK LARD!!
A popular stall where there is always a queue. I found it to be of a average taste, soup was rather bland.
Ordered their standard laksa. Super yummy gravy blend with spice and aromatics. Not too spicy nor too sweet for me. You can tell their rumpah base had some good hours of heat and mixing to get this level of uniformity. Taupok lovers rejoice! Taupok is firm and soaks up all the gravy goodness like a sponge. I chose the option with cockles which was clean and cooked right. No sandy crunches in their cockles. Fishcake is nice too. Overall excellent experience. Definitely worth another trip to Kovan/Hougang!
Went for curry chicken noodles as the stall was recommended by a friend, and ordered a standard bowl with yellow noodles and fine mee hoon. Presentation was Ok, with pieces of chicken and tau pok showing at the top. However the chicken tasted bland, and this did not go well with me.
One of those authentic BCM with savoury soup. The key ingredient is pork lard. Better than Bedok 85 overrated one imo.
Love it the laksa to bits ! Haven been back to Kovan in decades and gave this a shot during dinner time . Despite having a short queue - it moved fast. I packed it home, had it the next day instead & it was delishness at its max. The noodles weren’t soggy at all despite soaked thicc with the extra extra sambal I asked for.
I had it $5, with thin beehoon and told the auntie to separate the soup.
Uncle was uber generous (and friendly !) with all his ingredients and I had to use a medium size-large sized pot to contain all the soup (1 full soup bowl of it) and noodles (1 full soup bowl size too!) together. Plenty taupok, cockles, bean sprouts, fish cake, and the best thing is the gravy which was Super flavourful and thick in every spoon. I slurped it all up ; not a single drop left - and almost skipped dinner :)
Note : The default for laksa takeaway is thick beehoon and with the soup and noodles packed together - as shared by the order-taking auntie whom I’m guessing is 老板娘!
#01-47. Honestly the most satisfying bowls of local desserts found at this stall. Super fav is this red tea jelly longan. It is so good, and everything just blends together. The jellies and longans are simply topped with gula melaka and evaporated milk, but it does not taste overwhemingly sweet like most other hawker dessert stalls. Honestly don't think you can go wrong with this bowl from them. Looks real satisfying too; served up as a giant cloud of shaved ice with the toppings gloriously stacked in the center.

This stall has been around for quite sometime. Ordered mee pok dry. The noodle is soaked with lard and the chilli is normal. The small bowl of soup is ok but definitely not the best I tried so far. The noodle portion is generous but not the rest I.e fishball. Fishball is smaller in size compared with usual fishball noodle. Probably will try the soup based noodle next time.
Still as good since the last time I came. Always wished the queue is shorter.
Really good BCM and Curry Noodles! Too much good food around this food centre! But for sure one of my go-to for BCM!
Nice laksa, long queue
Not bad .. decent bowl of noodles . And uncle and auntie very accomodating to requests . Thank you very much .
👍🏻
Nice mee poh. Tasty and mee is good
Fa Ji BCM is life
From snack to adult, no matter how long the queue is, I will still choose this restaurant.
The laksa brings out the aroma of coconut milk, which almost beats the surrounding noodle stalls.
Not stingy at all, one bowl is generous. Eat well!
