Reviews of Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa
Taste was a little 1-dimensional at first until the chilli was mixed in which gives a nice dried shrimp undertone.
Small serving goes for $7 but came up to be a big portion. Since I am a laksa purist, I would have omitted the shrimp and chicken and would rather have the cockles instead.
Nonetheless, a very decent bowl of laksa.
Chanced upon this place in Hong Lim market and saw they have Bib gourmand award for a couple of years straight plastered in front of their stall. No wonder long queue. Ok the queue still not as long as the crayfish horfun at the other corner. That one is insane. I’m not sure about the history of this famous Sungei Rd trishaw laksa. Growing up in the east, I’m naturally team Katong laksa. I went big and ordered the crayfish laksa for a whopping 12 bux. The serving aunty was friendly and wanted to help me arrange the shrimps nicely before i took a photo though I told her not necc lol. The laksa broth is abit soupier than usual. Not as thick and as fragrant as the Katong janggut laksa. Taste somewhat abit lacking but still acceptable for me. Even though i chose the thick beehoon the texture still feels thinner than usual. At least the shrimps and the crayfish are fresh. My crayfish had roe in it somemore siol. Overall i think it’s decent. The broth i def prefer the Katong ones.
Did not disappoint! Michelin rated for multiple years for a reason AND the fresh seafood in their large Asia Delight Laksa was amazing! Definite recommend. $7 small. $12 large. Opens 10:30am-6:00pm (or 11:30-4:00pm depending on the sign you read 😉). Friendly and thoughtful service. 👍👍 FYI Hong Lim Center has no AC but has fans, tables & maintained toilets (bring your TP & wet wipes!).
I know that this place is known for their laksa, but their mee siam is also very delicious. Their regular size portion is actually pretty big. Flavorful hearty but not greasy. The stall owner is also very friendly and helpful. Strongly recommend.
I just tried the laksa and mee siam at Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa. The laksa had a perfectly balanced soup, not too heavy on the coconut milk, which I loved. The mee siam was unique and really special. Highly recommend both!
Delicious laksa with cray fish. Hawker auntie was so kind although we shared only a few words, my bowl was prepared and served warmly. Definitely it’s hard to compare its environment with other air-conditioned restaurant however it would be good place to try Singaporean local foods there. In my opinion, the gravy is less salty than Katong or general laksa ones.
$7 sgd for the 'small' bowl full of ingredients (chicken, cockles, prawns, fish biscuit) More spicy, less coconut (no taste). I prefer more coconut in the soup n less spicy. No long queues. Not sure why, maybe it is more ex than normal hawker prices
They serve two dishes here - crayfish Laksa and crayfish Mee Siam - and they do so PERFECTLY. Aromatic flavoursome food, with friendly and quick service. Top rating!
Ordered both the laksa as well as the mee Siam. The laksa is not so 'creamy' filled with coconut milk and do not expect the mee Siam you usually tasted at the local Muslim stall. I thot the mee Siam tasted more like the assam laksa. But both are good. Laksa (S) left, is S$7 and mee Siam (S) at S$6.

Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa
馳名結霜橋三輪車叻沙
Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa serves up various types of Laksa. The Asia Delight Laksa is the crowd favourite here and often sells out early. The broth takes hours to prepare and the dish includes crayfish, dried oysters, dried scallops, fish cake, cockles and prawns.
The Hawker has been experimenting with ways to improve the humble local dishes. The Asia Delight Laksa here was one of the successful dishes with quality ingredients. A fragrant dish, although yummy, the broth was found to be a little too thin.
General Verdict: A Hawker with a strive to provide excellent rendition of local delights. Unfortunately, the broth was found to be a little thin and did not have the coconut flavour to it
Opening Hours: Daily 10:15am-3pm (Closed on Thursdays and Sundays)
Queue Situation: About 5 to 10 mins
Payment Mode: Cash, Local Internet Banking by QR code or AMEX (Singapore) Pay
Is this worth a try? Yes.
Is it worth making a trip just to try it? Maybe not.
Is this worthy of the Michelin Bib Gourmand Singapore Award? Unlikely.
Dish Ordered:
1)
Item: Asia Delight Laksa
Description: White round noodles served in curry broth with crayfish, succulent chicken, prawns, cockles and tow kwa. Wonderful ingredients let down by a thin broth
Verdict: Acceptable, Order only if you want to try
Price: SG$9
Happened to walk by on a weekend and was drawn to this stall because there were so many photos and accolades plastered on the stall front! Very friendly aunty who took the opportunity to introduce her stall and the opening hours while taking my order. Laksa with crayfish for $9 was very generous with ingredients.
Blood cockles were reasonably fresh. It was the first time having crayfish and chicken in my laksa - chicken was incredibly tender and the roe in the crayfish was oh so creamy. Flavourful soup and not too oily, but I would have preferred a thicker, more lemak version of it. Substantial portion of noodles. Worth a try.
It might taste good, but not so good enough to get the recommendation from Mechlin, in my personal opinion. If you visit there and try, I would suggest the original version without seafood topping.
The laksa took so good. I wish I could from back to ear it again. The auntie/staff is so nice. She asked all my questions.
Ordered the $9 bowls of the crayfish laksa and the fruit juice mee siam. I prefer the mee siam and you can definitely taste the fruit juice. Weird but workable combo. I would like it a bit more sour though. The chicken is tender and the prawns were cooked just right. The crayfish is alright but not my fav.
As for the laksa it's not the usual type of strong, thick coconut milk spice filled hae bee broth but rather its hints of the premium seafood that's used. Its decent but I prefer the traditional laksa type of broth more.
The soup was well balanced, not too much coconut milk so you feel safe to drink all the soup. Cockles were fresh! Friendly stall owners made the whole experience a positive one. Sold out by 1.15pm on a weekday so better be there early!
The most awesome mee siam that's made from fruit juice that allows you to want to eat it every day without feeling super full. Super awesome. And yes, they're on the Michelin list.
A bit more expensive than your everyday laksa but you can tell in the ingredient that it’s worth it. Owner says usually sells out at 3 pm so get there early, the shop located at the 2nd floor. Only down side is the heat, be prepared.
Definitely deserves the Michelin recommendation. I added the crayfish to the laksa for a small extra fee. Really smooth laksa with the coconut. I personally like extra spice but would’ve been just as enjoyable without. The queue in front of it is worth it.
Uncle's Mee Siam is made with fruit juice and it tastes so unique. It's not too sweet, not too sour, every ingredient is so balanced, it works together so well.
Tasty bowl of goodness
Umami broth
went there yesterday during lunch time and there was a short queue. The owners at the store are very welcoming and friendly. Laksa was great and delicious. Ordered the $5 but felt there could be more noodles for the price. I wasn't that full after eating. Nevertheless, it is a tasty bowl of laksa, and I would totally recommend giving it a shot if you are in the area!
Went there for lunch and luckily managed to catch the last order. Uncle was very friendly and kept checking on me to see if I was enjoying the meal. Laksa was very flavourful and had very fresh ingredients, especially the broth, which had an umami and light taste. Keep up the good work!
Pretty good laksa. Will try mee rebus next time
I like this style of non spicy laksa but I think I would prefer it better if it has hae bee/more hae bee in the broth. Ingredient was fresh, and yes, as many have commented, prawns were over cooked. The cockles were small but fresh, and I realised there seemed to be a cut back on the amount of ingredients comparing photos from months prior. Will I return just for the laksa... Well, no. There are many similar or better ones around, but if I happened to be near the food centre, yes maybe.
Personally I think it's so so only. Average bowl of Laksa. For 5 sgd dollar a bowl i feel that it's too pricey. Could have got a more tastier bowl of Laksa with more ingredient elsewhere. However this stall does have a Michelin recommendation. There's also a upscale version of the Laksa that comes with crayfish ($9 sgd per bowl) and interestingly fruit juice mee siam which many reviewers have been recommending.
With so many other tasty food option within the hawker, I doubt i will craves for this stall.
But the stall owners are super friendly and nice couple!!! Maybe I'll give the fruit juice mee siam a try next time? 🤔
Visited this stall on a Monday morning 11.15am. About 5 people in front of me and waited about 12-15 mins before i got my Laksa with mantis prawn ($9). Owner was extremely friendly and shared his michelin award story as well as their daily routine (sold out very fast) with me. Owner was at first working alone and at about 11.30am or so a lady helper came. Food wise, actually i think the laksa taste is so so only, the mantis prawn is also not really big. I don't think it's worth $9 overall. But I will go back to try the mee siam some day. Give 4 star due to owner friendliness, he even spoke Japanese to the Japanese lined in front of me!
Nice Sungei Road style laksa. Please take note that the small size is without crayfish.
I think it’s a standard Singapore style laksa. I order non crayfish one is 5SGD. I remember this bowel is no clams. I prefer no cockles. For me it’s a little bit plain compared to other stall laksa. However it still a good bowel but a little bit expensive compared to other stall.
I tried most of the famous laksa. In my opinion, this stall serve the best laksa in Singapore. Do come early, my last few visit they always sold out before 1pm.
Awarded bib gourmand by Michelin guide. Awesome food! Three different options, we tried all three, and would especially recommend the second dish, the fruit juice laksa. Spicy sour, with awesome seafood and thin noodles! Only qued for about 20 minutes at lunchtime. On the second floor of the building.
Wholesome bowl of goodness. Fresh ingredients of crayfish, prawns, chicken, egg, beansprouts and taupok (tofu puffs). The gravy is SO ON POINT with the right balance of sweet and tangy flavours. No wonder they won a Michellin award! RECOMMEND!
It's the laksa where you can introduce to a tourist. On the lighter side and clean flavors. Bonus was that there were no queues on a weekday lunch, as people flocked to the ckt, bcm, wanton noodle and curry noodles stalls.
Good laksa with a fair amount of seafood for the price. Would have appreciated a little more toppings (seafood or veggies) with the noodles and broth, but otherwise was pretty good.
The food is really good and the lady is very kind
Store owner was generous and gave me a large bowl of laksa filled with ingredients. 😄
tasted like any laksa you can get from hawker center in sg, no difference.
Nice authentic Singapore laksa different from Katong Laksa which is more milky.
Best laksa I've had!
The best laksa i ever eat, will visit this place again.
Very unique taste, friendly owner too...something very different from the rest!
Did not actually get to try this, but noting that they are on the 2nd floor in the food court. On vacation til 10/25/2016
Very impressed
Let us know when they reopen for business after the Chinese New Year
Very fresh seafood, delicious soup, highly recommended
Good taste. Have to try when you are in Chinatown
very unique laksa
Love it
Delicious but small portion
Good and tasty laksa
Yummy
portion very small
Ok w crocker
The boss is very nice~ He gave me a half lobster!! It’s worth 9SGD~ If you don’t want lobster, it’s only 5SGD. It’s delicious. I didn’t expect there to be such a delicious shop in a Food Court.
It tastes like coconut milk noodles, sweet and has a shrimp smell. Personally, I don't like it.
Since 2016 to 2021, it has maintained the Michelin record, which is really commendable.
2nd floor. Taste is good. But it's too hot. It's quite hot here, even among hawkers, so it's a bit...
Laksa is a food that everyone likes and dislikes about, but I really recommend this place.
The boss is very polite and the service is good. The laksa is delicious! Recommended original flavor
