Reviews of Lawa Bintang
Honestly, it's a very good plate of nasi lemak. Rice was good. Sambal wasn't too spicy, and it was the sweeter kind, which I liked. Everything else was good. The chicken wasn't marinated, but with the crispy batter and a slather of sambal, it was delicious.
Nice Nasi Lemak and pricing is reasonable. Definitely will come back here for lunch.
The lobster Nasi Lemak is very popular here.
Visited with my buddies to try out the lobster nasi lemak. $22 may seem a little pricey but the plus side is that they will prep the dish only when you order. You get it fresh from the kitchen once it is ready. We all enjoyed the dish very much. The samba chilli was a good balance of sweetness and spicyness. Giving it a 4-star only because of 2 things:
1. The nasi was not lemak enough.
2. Perhaps a better cheese could be used on the lobster to enhance the taste. Some of use felt even if no cheese would be alright too.
We also tried the sotong and chicken wings. I felt these were good too but not extraordinary.
We ordered two plates, one lobster and the other grilled squid. They have other seafood options such as salmon, garoupa, prawns, etc. The lobster is the one that drew the crowd here. I personally find the lobster rather normal and small with no pincers, so essentially it’s like a giant prawn. The grilled squid on the other hand was much more delicious in my opinion. I personally find the price a little steep for the lobster nasi lemak ($22 per plate); it’s probably worth one try if you would like to. The rice that they use is the long grain kind. Come early if you want to eat the lobster. Oh and this place is rather inaccessible as it is nestled in an industrial estate behind Tampines SAFRA. It’s about an 8min walk from SAFRA to the coffeeshop under our singapore sweltering heat with no shade - so rmb to bring umbrella if you don’t want to become the next lobster!
I recommended this place to my M’sian friends. They love it. They tried the famous lobster nasi lemak & tapau the kerapu nasi lemak for me. Generous portion & price is reasonable.
Other than the seafood wow factor, it's an average nasi lemak. I ordered before the crowd came, a sotong goreng set $7.50 with quail eggs sambal $1.50.
The rice was basmati based and was nicely fluffy, and did not absorb the coconut cream, nice to eat by itself but completely overwhelmed by the squid.
The squid was battered, deep fried, and coated with thyme and salt. The squid was mass produced (not much taste left) and was a bit over-brined. The batter stayed crispy though.
The 5 quail eggs replaced the standard egg, so I guess each quail egg was 40 cents. The peanuts and ikan bills had partial stale oil taste, maybe mixed batches. The sambal was ok.
Would I eat it again? Only if I happen to be there, but I'd like to try the other stalls first. And I'd offer another side, maybe the chicken wing.
closed on Monday.
open only for lunch and best is the lobster cheese nasi lemak with chix wings. the deep fried sotong is another signature.
One of the best Nasi lemak ! Definitely a must to try in town
Innovative and modern twist to a classic all time favourite nasi lemak BUT the Q is mad. Only for those who are not in the rush .....
Lobster ran out but I still need to wait 45 mins for "normal" order
My wife hv nasi lemak lobster,it was nice, abit expensive $22..but it worth of eating.. I have Nasi lemak fried sotong,it less then $10..it was nice too..the flour they use to fried the sotong was nice..what I like most is the rice..they use long rice to cook the nasi lemak, the texture was perfectly cook, soft and tasty..Good Job..thumb up.
Best nasi lemak in Singapore. The lobster and the coconut-y rice are the best part.
Wow wow wow!!! Absolutely delicious nasi lemak, the spiny lobster was cooked perfectly, the rice was aromatic and flavourful, the ikan bilis crunchy and not overly salty, the sambal was a delicious blend of sweet/heat and such great service, will be back for sure! Worth the trip from Sentosa!
Love the nasi lemak. Fragrant rice and overall tasty. Generous with the amount of sambal compared to other Nasi Lemak stalls where we have to ask for more because of the small amount given.
The dory fish is very worth it as the fish is very big for a $6 price.
Standard Nasi Lemak (Coconut rice) with Chicken Leg or Wing is pretty tasty. $4 for a portion is almost twice over most other similar food joints, but the portions are generous, so the small premium is ok. Havent tried the Lobster Nasi Lemak that is their speciality. Lets see if i'm wiling to spend $22 on one meal next time i'm there..:)
Overall good experience, but the coffee shop setting can get stuff on warm days. No AC here. :)
Nasi lemak is well cooked and the smoked duck, grilled sotong(squid) and fried sotong is really well seasoned. Not forgetting the sambal which is spicy! The service is great as they are really friendly. Do know that there is quite a waiting time due to the high demand for this good food :)
Ordered for takeout on Sunday morning. Decided to try a bit of everything....lobster, grilled barramundi, grilled sotong and chicken drumstick. Queue was not long but had to wait for the lobster, barramundi and sotong to be freshly prepared.
Lobster, barramundi and sotong were grilled to perfection. The rice texture was just nice, not oily at all, and fragrant. The sambal chilli was fantastic, not to spicy and not coated with thick layer of oil on top like some other places.
Overall, good place to have quality nasi lemak. Would have given 5 stars if the takeout can be packed with banana leafs instead of styrofoam boxes.
My must go Nasi Lemak at least once a week. I like their basmati rice very much. It goes very well with all their main. Sad to say, the Grouper Fish is getting smaller. If not this is my favourite choice ever. So, nowadays i will either eat grouper or chicken thigh.
Decent food. Had the nasi lemak sotong at $9. Can improve on the sambal (to each his own) but overall was satisfying. Will return to eat when im around the east side.
Huge portions of prawns, fish, lobster and squid at a very low price. I can't believe they are even making money in this economy with those portions. Taste-wise I have to admit, it's not particularly exciting. Rice is actually basmati which is slightly uncommon but lacks the fragrance and taste of coconut milk. Sambal is underwhelming and too sweet for my liking. I like my sambal to be spicy, tangy, sweet and complex. Ikan bilis and peanuts could use a little more crunchiness to it.
Overall, extremely value for money. An average dish that's made even more awesome with unconventional pair-ups.
Consistent good food. Slightly pricy if you opt for the lobster. But the normal chicken is just as great. Good batter and many options (thigh, wing, drumstick)
Nasi lemak is nicer than the ones at Changi village. This is the stall with lobster nasi lemak and other variety lemak. Try their chicken wing lemak at $3. Their homemade chilli sauce is very nice!
Value for money Nasi Lemak! Ordered the drumstick Nasi Lemak set and the Sotong Goreng. Went around 11am so managed to escape the lunch crowd.
Nasi Lemak with a difference. Other than the normal chicken wing type, they also serve chicken drumstick, thigh, prawns, sotong, pomfret, garoupa and lobster variants.
Had the $4 Nasi Lemak with drumstick. The chilli sauce is just spicy for me and the drumstick is excellent and crispy coated.
Yummy!
Nice experience. Highlight is the Lobster Nasi Lemak $22. I choose sotong Nasi Lemak instead.
Long queue but the lobster nasi lemak is nice. The rice is fragrant and sambal has a kick to it. Worth a try
Sorry to say that the best part of this place is the rice. The rest is nothing special. Generous with the chili, but not spicy at all
Decent nasi lemak with nicely cooked meat and price wise is quite affordable.
Nasi lemak lobster superb... brader parking botak2 also very kind.. friendly and kaki pantun..
I have not try the lobster meal but chicken wing rice was nice.
Above average. Can try.
Great taste of Nasi Lemak rice... Price is reasonable...
Not bad the zip char store ... too out of the way for me ... won't make effort to go
I like the rice, they have more variety and the price is acceptable.
