Reviews of Lor 9 Beef Kway Teow
Taste better than 10yrs ago. Cook shift from outside the road to inside kitchen. Price a bit expensive @$9 1 person portion.
I went yesterday night with my friends and it was such a lovely place. The food was excellent. The beef tasted amazing. The staff were also very polite and nice towards us. I would recommend this place :)
the beef hor fun was honestly average at best. it’s saving grace were the tender beef slices, but there was no wok hey/ distinct flavour. rather disappointing and mildly annoying that they only accept cash which we weren’t aware of and had to cross over to 7/11 to cash out - do take note of this. the bill came up to $45 for 3 dishes, unfortunately don’t recommend coming here :(
Good hor fun but way too overpriced. Just a decent hor fun
Not much wokhey, not worth the 10bucks. 9$ just for the beef horfun, add 1$ for egg white? Vegetables 2pc as seen in the picture. Portion very small for 9$.
Am a regular customer for 20 years. I will alway order the Beef Hor Fun add egg (Wat Tan). Super tender beef slices in generous portions and delicious silky egg black bean sauce. The $28 portion feeds about 5. Prawn paste chicken and fried Sotong You Tiao are good sides for sharing. Very good pricing. Carpark lots are not easily available.
Tried the famous Geylang beef kway teow. Not bad! The gravy was nice, beef was tender (I suspect they use tenderiser) though the noodles had no wok hey. Overall still decent
One of the best local style fried beef hor funs in Singapore. The meats are crispy tender n the hor funs are fried with good wok hei. Other dishes are not bad too. I like their fried dow miao n fish slices fried with bitter gourds in black bean sauce. Only shortfall they dont provide balacan chilli. Prices are reasonable.
There's only one fried beef hor fun at this road corner. Don't know why the Google map shows 2 shops. Probably duplication bcos of different translation of their name. It shd br Lor 9 Famous Beef Horfun in full.
This was my first meal in Singapore, We had just finished getting checked into our hotel and needed something to eat. I opened my Google app and found that Lor 9 Beef Kway Teow was just a short walk away.
The restaurant is situated on a corner, there is indoor and outdoor seating, we decided to eat outside, we took a seat and menus were brought to us. We ordered drinks first and then looked over the menus, despite the name of the restaurant there is more that just beef offered here.
I decided on the Black Pepper Beef, my friend decided on the Deep Fried Baby Squid, we also ordered some Yangzhou Rice to share.
One thing that was a little different here and something that I will soon find out if it is the norm here in Singapore is that when the drinks were brought out we had to pay for them right then, it was the same when the food arrived, the plates were placed on the table and you pay right then and there.
Well anyway I took a couple scoops of rice and started in on the Black Pepper Beef. I have of course had this dish before but here the sauce was thick, rich, and slightly spicy, the rice was good but my main dish was outstanding. The beef was tender, the vegetables were fresh, and the sauce was perfection.
My friend enjoyed her meal but not as much as I enjoyed mine, she thought the squid was too dry. She is from Thailand and I'm sure that she is used to her food being cooked a certain way. I have no way of judging what she ate so I'll chalk it up her indifference to different cultural influences, cooking styles, and local ingredients.
To be honest their food is quite good. I am just turned off by their services lately. The auntie servers are usually just angry all the time. No patience and not fit to be in the service industry at all. I don’t think you would want to face these people after a long day of work and when you are hungry otherwise it will be a war. Moreover, they have removed their paynow/paylah option and this is just irritating. In this day and age, they have to offer at least one digital option when everyone is already almost phasing out paper bills.
Ordered their signature Beef Hor Fun ($7) and a plate of Yangchow Fried rice ($6).
Both dishes taste great. Although I have to say, it's a little bit pricey.
Pretty happy with the staff and the ambience (I was there at 9pm Sunday). The short haired woman who took our order wasn't pushy. And she didn't give attitude when we chose not to order drinks.
Try this beef noodle and it did not disappoint, it is aromatic with "wok hei", beef is of good quality and I like my hor fun chewy. This shop is a coffee shop, no aircon. There are many other dishes other than the hor fun. Prices are good, quality for money.
I always have a soft spot for beef hor fun and naturally when I'm nearby today I wint miss the opportunity to visit this stall...
Pricey was my first thought. A small cup of lime juice at $2, small portion of beef hor fun at $7. Yah, it's small in my opinion compared to other beef hor fun that I had.
Taste wise, it's good. Beef is soft and well marinated. Not too much tantaliser that numbs the tongue like some. Not a lot of wok hei today but acceptable.
Verdict: Good if you are here for supper /or not hungry / or on a diet. Go elsewhere for drink ;)
The beef kway teow is of course their signature dish, full of wok hei and tender beef. Their prawn paste chicken is also pretty good.
We went after the lunch crowd. The food was served within 6 mins. But the horfun and gravy were only lukewarm.
Good beef horfun. Got wok hei taste 👍They raised their prices to 8 14 ? ? 28.
But old lady and young china girl spoke so rudely. Bad service. I told them off for being rude to me. 👎
Didn't enjoy the 'fake' beef texture in their beef horfun. Expensive and crowded and fake beef not my type of food
Best beef kway teow I've ever had. 😋😋😋
Delicious seafood Kway Teow in Singapore
Loving the beef kuey tew still after so many years. The sechup hor fun is also worth exploring.
Portion priced at $8/14/18/22/28
Super tender chunks of beef!!! The silky smooth kway teow noodles doused in their signature peppery brown sauce was heavenly. They are very generous with their portion too.
We went at around 10pm as to avoid the dinner crowd. The place feels very traditional and homely. Plus the staff were really nice and bubbly.
There’s plenty of seats and also an open kitchen for you to peek in and watch your food getting cooked!!
This quality of the dishes here used to be way higher and the standard has dropped over the years. Nonetheless, we still found it fantastic and worth a try.

Fantastic food as always, aunty was very good at estimating the food sizing and perfect amount for everyone.
How to describe this marvellouslicious
Discovery of kway fried beef noodles for more than 45 years. I have yet to find any family that timed the frying or slickNes
Of the beef in de sauce. In short die3, must eat. It's so so so good. Beef cook
Wth chewy texture with a mouthwatery black Beany sauce. Not just carry on makan.. Just go makan.
Nostalgic. Food came out super fast. Was still good
Packed dinner after afternoon ride. Haven't been here for over a year.
Our base was the beef hor fun and topped with deep fried baby squid, calamari, heh chor prawn roll, baby kailan, pork ribs, Thai style tofu and cereal prawns. Would give the calamari a miss next time. Everything else was good! Yum.
Perfectly cooked crispy noodles with the right amount of crisp and chewiness. Delicious tender slices of beef, vegetables, and generous amount of flavourful soy sauce-based gravy. Not too salty, but rich and savoury taste. Other dishes such as coffee pork ribs and chicken wings avail too!
Warning! Beef Kway Teow is spicy!!! BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT.
Nice food…Always come here for my dinner
At $8 a pop, the food is not the cheapest hawker fare around. Luckily the portion of beef was generous enough.
The beef is very tender and the horfun was tangy with a wok hey you should expect from a properly prepared tze char.
One of the best beef hor fun in Singapore.
It's probably the best in Singapore.
Tandelized flavour with a generous helpings of beef slices. Easy chewy good beef that literally melts in your mouth. And super Wok Hey Kway Teow
Gives the perfect combination with their salted black bean sauce. Perfection with commitment in how it's done since the First tasted it for more than 40 years ago. It's a 5 🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢
PauChiat!! Must karry on makan if you are a bee Hor Fun fan.
Very good food - best beef hor fun in SG. Believe they use MSG though. Service is expected, OK. Place is not very clean but acceptable. No air con so my friends are all sweating. Parking is easy; there is a parking lot half block away.
Flavour could be stonger ; the smoky wok flavour could have been more evident
Would have been 5 stars. Delicious with chilli, full of wok hey and would come again. $8 is just nice for 2 people to share for a snack but not enough for a full dinner.
Missing 1 star for service. Lady wasn't interested in cleaning our table and there is a very distinct lady who would scream and shout the orders and at customers because she has no idea where to deliver the food to.
Focus on the food and you will leave the place happier.
Just here for their beef kway teow, which is definitely worth 5 stars albeit pricey... Starting at $7. The beef slices are tender and the gravy slightly peppery... And is rather filling.
Never bothered ordering anything else, so.... At your own risk.
After trying all other rivals for the best beef hor fun, this place still remains the firm favourite for the family. Luscious thick gravy slathered over tender beef meat and smooth hor fun. All the different elements make the magic that satisfy hungry tummies. Carpark is a real problem and pricier than most but oh boy the hor fun is to die for.
$8 for a beef horfun or beef sang meen (crispy noodles). The taste is pretty constant for the last 2 decades and more, and warrants a visit every so often when in the Geylang area.
Beef Hor Fun is tasty. We ordered Fried Prawns and Sotong You tiao. Frankly, we had better ones before. Not really worth ordering. The worst dish we ordered is the Broccoli with mushrooms. Mushrooms are fine but the broccoli is way too overcooked, something that Gordon R. would say..digusting.
Would have given 4 stars, but for a business to have the confidence to put its signature dish in its name, the dish has to be exceptional. Which unfortunately has fallen short of my expectations in terms of wok hei.
It's really still good! Fast service, good value, lots of tender beef! Their fermented black beans is their signature taste in the Hot Fun. So nostalgic :)
Local delicious beef kway teoh. The beefs are tender. The portion ordered is sufficient for 2 persons. Taste is suitable for locals. The coffee pork ribs are a bit tough but it was tasty.
Hor fun not hot enough. dou miao and prawn paste chicken average.
Am disappointed, this time round the famous Beef Kway Tiow has lost the wok-hei in the food esp the beef quality was over tenderised with starchy, soggy kway. What happened to the good old standard of our SG food??? Yap, all thanks to those foreigners taking charge of the kitchen..🙄 Please bring back the good old standard from 25yrs ago.
Still as good, I had a plate of beef kway teow, a glass of black coffee. $7/= beef kway teow, $1.10 for coffee. The coffeeshop was clean n the service staffs were polite n efficient. Can patronise anytime if ur nearby, thanks.
The serve food fast yet still managed to keep its quality. Affordable price with thick slice beef and tasty hor fun with 'wok hey' . Best of all, it open til late .
Beef noodles come in $6,12,18,24 portions. Not very big. Order some extra dishes. Spent nearly $40 for three persons.
Noodles are tasty and a little bit spicy.
There's a car park at the end of Lorong 9.
Beef hor fun is still as good but pls improve the staff service.
These guys get 5 stars right off the bat for turning out a fabulous beef hor fun consistently and efficiently. The quality has never wavered and that wonderful wok hei is present in every single dish that comes out of the kitchen. They are used to "to go" orders, so you can drive up, place your order, circle the block slowly and it'll be done by the time you make it back past the laissez faire jaywalkers, the haphazardly parked vehicles and zigzaggy cyclists. Winners here are the: Beef hor fun, Pork Rib King and sweet sour pork. The seafood hor fun gets an honorable mention as well. If dining on site, make it a point to try the oyster omelette place across the street run by a crew of apparent gangsters....pure magic!!
My personal favourite beef kway teow(rice noodle) . Beef is so tender you can't find it anywhere else.. They also serve many other choices of food for those do not eat beef.
Good, if you are after a quick decent bite. Service is efficient, friendly. The beef hor fun is fair.. meat tender, hor fun needs to be more scorched ... aka lacking "wok hey"
The food is delicious and for the price is worthed
Delicious, a $20 portion is only about 6 small bowls, not enough for our group of 3, we ordered 2 of the $20 portions..
Only ever had the beef hor fun, which is their signature dish. Absolutely love the gravy and the tender beef slices.
Must try the spicy hor fun, the normal hot fun is no good. Spicy one is super delicious!!
Eaten lots of beef kway teow, this shop still ranks tops on my list with juicy beef n smooth gravy.
The food was okay. Could easily find it in any other hawker centre or market.
The fried beef river, Xingzhou fried rice noodles, and dried sugarcane lemon juice are highly recommended. They are delicious and not surprising.
Geylang Lane 9 is famous for its snacks! There are many restaurants around! You can get here by walking for ten minutes from Kallang MRT station, but the routes are different (it is still recommended to take the bus and get off nearby).
The beef rice noodles are average (similar to Hong Kong's wet fried beef rice noodles with black drum oil, the beef is tender and delicious!
The portions are small but big enough for three of us to eat.. the service is good and fast. They know I'm Muslim. They chose the halal menu.. the taste is pretty good considering the standard SG prices, which in my opinion, nothing here is cheap 😊
There is a lot of beef and Mong Kok Green Grass is really delicious. You must try it! There are longan cincau and aiyubing
The amount of beef is a bit small. The beef should have been soaked in tender essence for a long time, but the taste is great.
The beef river is delicious, and the portion size depends on the person. The minimum portion size is SGD8.
Very good food and quiet environment. The only flaw is that you are on the roadside and it is difficult to find space for the car
