Reviews of Q Fried Kway Teow
Pretty decent fried oysters. I bought the $10 portion, and they gave 10 oysters of decent size. The flavour is also good, and the fried starch is a bit wet and a bit crisp. Could be better, but it's pretty decent for the price.
Chanced upon Q Fried Kway Teow and decided to try out with my close friends during lunch hour. I was rather intrigued by the "Q" on their signboard, am I going to expect a "Queue" or would my Fried Kway Teow be "Q", chewy and bouncy?
We alighted at Toa Payoh MRT (NS19), turned right after tapping out of the gantry and walked towards Exit C. You are going towards the correct direction if you see a Unity pharmacy, in striking purple, followed by an escalator in front. Walk up the escalator, cross the short pedestrian crossing, enter Toa Payoh Mall, and walk straight. You should be able to see the 183 Coffeeshop located a short distance away from Toa Payoh Public Library.
We saw that there was no queue and wondered how it was possible since it was lunch hour. We happily proceeded to order with the attentive cashier and owners and were informed that the average waiting time was 30 minutes. At the end of the day there was a "Q" just that whoever ordered was given a buzzer and to only collect their food when it buzzed.
The process at Q Fried Kway Teow was as follows:
1. Chope a table
2. Place your order
3. Payment by Cash, Paynow or scan QR code to pay through digital wallets. Card payment is unavailable as of writing
4. Collect your buzzer and take a seat
5. Collect your food when the buzzer buzz
6. Enjoy while it is hot!
We ordered the least portion available for both Fried Kway Teow and Fried Oyster. The portion and ingredients given for both dishes were generous, filled with wok hey aroma and not overly oily.
The owner told us that the chilli added in their Spicy Fried Kway Teow is handmade daily and it does kick a punch, damn shiok. The cockles, fishcakes, eggs, beansprouts and green vegetables added were fresh, provided layers of texture and tasted refreshing.
The star of their Fried Kway Teow has to be their freshly fried pork lard, which is crispy, crunchy and fried to perfection, elevating the texture and aroma of the already delicious Fried Kway Teow significantly.
The Fried Kway Teow at Q Fried Kway Teow was generally on the sweeter side, please do not hesitate to request less sweet sauce and by doing so, it might allow the taste of wok hey to be more prominent, elevating the overall taste profile and meal experience.
The Fried Oyster surprised me as it was crispy, minimal amount of starch and, a generous amount of egg, served with fresh, huge and juicy oysters. The chilli that was paired with the Fried Oyster was tangy and sweet to perfection, one of the best chilli I have tasted for Fried Oyster.
The stars of their Fried Oyster were Oyster and Chilli, their version of Fried Oyster might not be the most suitable if you are someone like me who craves the chewy starch. However, if you are an Oyster Connoisseur, you should try the Fried Oyster at Q Fried Kway at least once in your lifetime.
Q Fried Kway Teow is worth visiting if you are around the area. Generous portion, fresh quality, the price point is steep for certain dishes but value for money. Do expect some waiting time as they have been around for almost 20 years, having non-stop loyal customers patronizing especially during peak meal hours.
Q Fried Kway Teow had recently moved from Blk 184, Super 28 Coffeeshop to Blk 183 Coffeeshop. Both still within Toa Payoh Central just a block away from each other.
P.S. The owner told me that the "Q" on their signboard is named for fun, it is up to their customers' preference to interpret. I would hence interpret it as:
"Do expect a "Q" to eat a heartwarming plate of "Q" fried kway teow freshly fried by a "Q" couple"

So happy to find them at this coffee shop!
They seem to have suddenly moved, from the other coffee shop, so am happy to see the lady boss who knows my order and the taste is always reliable.
Regular here. Customized spice level to my taste. Friendly boss-lady. Knows what I like!
Been a fan of their fried kway teow for the longest time ever.
This dish had a nice wok hey to it and wasn't a mushy mess like most others would usually be. Noodles and kway teow had a nice texture.
The only downside is the location of this stall. It is inaccessible due to the step. Good thing they noticed me having the intention to place an order. If it is too crowded, usually kind souls will approach to help too.
This got to be one of the plumpest oysters in an orh jian dish I’ve come across. Good value. Eggs could be better done but still good just for the oysters.
This place sells one of my favourite oyster omelette in Singapore. Taste is above average. They are generous with the ingredients- from the plump oysters to the spring onions and coriander. Most of the time, the ingredients are fresh. Lady boss is friendly and polite.
The hokkien noodle is 'ponding' with the rich and flavourful sauce and the char kway teow also savory. The oyster omelette and carrot cake is above average.
Note that store does not open everyday and Q are sometimes long, however the wait is worth it.
I ordered the white fried carrot cake. Look is better than the taste. Taste is decent but nothing special.
