Attended @roomtoimaginesg floral resin letter workshop on 14 July! I was really looking forward to this class, and I've been eyeing it for a few months before deciding to go ahead with it. And it did not disappoint!
I ordered 2 pieces for my letters - C for my name, and B for Barry my furson. With Cindy's advice and suggestion, I created a reversible theme for my letter C, and decided to combine 2 colour themes for the letter B. Cindy was really patient in sharing her expertise and knowledge, and in guiding us to arrange our flowers and to pour the resin. And it was so fun to chat with each other, and to learn Cindy's journey into this current business.
Our resin pieces would need about 12 days to harden and solidify. So I'm definitely looking forward to see the final products!
Thank you Cindy for the workshop! And I look forward to my final pieces!
P. S. This is not a sponsored post, but a genuine review of a positive experience.
Booked a session on 7th Sep. Could not get a spot but owner Cindy was very helpful via email. Thank you for that!
During the session itself, I did have a lot of fun. There was a nice range of colour pigments to choose from. Might have gone a bit crazy choosing colours. I went on my own since they didn’t allow anyone to accompany me. My table came out pretty good (if I do say so myself). Received it well packaged and protected also. Looking forward to setting it up.
However, I do have a few points to highlight that kinda put a damper on my experience:
1. I came in with the intention to purchase things to add on my table. This was something advertised on the website. I was looking to add in dried flowers. However, upon mentioning to the staff that day, it was not available / could not find / in the warehouse / had to keep for next class. These were all the reasons given. Okay fine, a bit sad, but moving on. A lot of excuses though.
2. It was really quite uncomfortable squeezing 4 people at 1 table. The other 3 had smaller items like coasters while I had a bigger item to do. But there was only 4 participants. So unsure why we all had to squeeze. I felt it was really unnecessary.
3. Resin was marketed as food safe. But before the class suddenly told its not. A lady doing the platter specifically wanted this because it was food safe only to be told it's not. Also not right. This should have been highlighted prior to attending the class. I understand changing brands to prevent yellowing, but it should be told to participants before even reaching the studio.
4. I truly felt the amount of resin for the coffee table was not enough. It was roughly 400ml, and we were told to keep some extra aside. So once it was fully poured on the surface, it was a super super thin coat. Barely making it to cover the sides. I had to keep heating it up and tilting in order to reach the ends. Even then it barely made it. I thought it would be a much thicker layer.
5. Lack of alcohol wipes. Come end of the session, I did not realise my gloves had touched the resin and left marks all over the edges of my table. I was not told to be careful about it (first time using resin here), hence not paying too close attention. We were told to clean off the resin using baby wipes. Baby wipes do nothing. I literally had to use brute force to clean everything off. To the point of my fingernails breaking. I spent more time cleaning than doing art. Basic cleaning supplies should be available no? Especially for something that cures quickly.
6. Attitude of staff - saying things like “table we working on isn’t level”; “I don’t know this, I don’t know that, no idea”; “I haven’t done this before so no comment”. Does not give me a lot of confidence in their aptitude.
And constantly commenting that “no one does the direct pouring only dirty pour for the table”, “won’t know how it’ll turn out”, and other such negative comments while I am doing my piece. Of course that’s gonna make me nervous that I’ll spoil it. Again, never touched resin before which she knew as she asked before class.
It did not sit right with me that she said all these things. It just made her seem inexperienced and really just left a bad taste in my mouth. I can understand feedback. But I cannot understand not giving newbies a chance to just try out things without constant negativity.
So yes, although I did have a fairly nice time, it was kinda spoilt by the staff. Her execution of the session could have been better.
Did a resin art workshop at this place. Cindy is friendly and hospitable and her place is clean and beautiful. While I enjoyed her workshop, some elements left me disappointed. I signed up alone and arrived slightly earlier, yet the workshop started 40 minutes late as the other participants who came as a group were very late. I wish she had started on time and not make me wait so long just because the others were late. In the end, our workshop overran by over 1 hour and ate into the next workshop's time. During the class, it became obvious that Cindy really likes extroverts (I'm not) so it was a bit uncomfortable for me. She does do her best so if you are prepared to wait a possibly long time for latecomers and are extroverted, you would definitely enjoy her classes.
I did resin and alcohol ink workshop with this studio, and would like to recommend it to all, Cindy is very helpful and explains the process very well, they have good variety in resin, pouring and alcohol ink workshops. One must experience the joy of creating your own products!
My mum and I attended the Resin Coffee Table Workshop and greatly enjoyed the class! Cindy was patient and guided us through the whole process. Getting hands on to do resin art was very fun and interesting too:)
Super enjoyed the workshop (we did the botanical luxe resin dish)! It was therapeutic! Cindy is detailed, patient, attentive and encouraging! I am going back for the cheeseboard workshop and more!
Great experience making lovely dishes with the kids. Staff were super friendly, helpful, and patient.
Amazing place for artistic ventures! You should go! Resin based art is dope!
