Reviews of Central Square Canteen
Mala stall tasty and affordable. Handmade noodles and mala xiang guo very nice.
Mixed veg rice also tasty. Ribs (pai gu Wang) very good
It is a smaller canteen, compared to Frontier, Deck, or Technoedge. It has several stalls — Thai, Mala, Mixed Vegetable Rice, Ban Mian/Fish Soup, and Indian (Vegetarian).
For the Thai food:
1. The green curry chicken is good, but quite spicy. The chicken slices are quite plenty.
2. The pandan chicken is also good -- it is well-marinated and juicy.
For the Ban Mian/Fish soup stall:
1. The double fish soup is good. You can opt for milk to be put in as well. 2. The dumplings are also good. It is filled with a mixture of chives and pork and is juicy.
3. The tomato egg noodle is good too. It is like ban mian, except that the soup base is sweet and slightly tangy.
For the La Mian/Hotplate stall, they have beef noodle. The beef slices are tender, but maybe, the spicy option would be better, as the non-spicy option made the soup tasted salty.
For the Waffles stall, they have the waffle with ice cream. The waffle itself is crispy. The ice cream flavors are also quite good -- I particularly liked the cookies and cream and the mango.
My favourite stalls: ban mian, soups from chicken rice stall, mala stall, coffee and tea from drinks stall really good too. Not forgetting takoyaki, waffles and ice cream stall!
Not much of a choice like the other canteen in NUS. Also doesnot stay open on weekends like the canteens at Utown. So okay for a change and for the students in nearby dorms.
Things to try: ban mian, Cai fan and Thai clear Tom yum. But don't put yr expectation too high. It's canteen food lol
Pretty decent price for uni students, but don't expect much from the food standard
Great food, affordable price, long queues
Kinda of run down and needs better maintainence..
