Reviews of Chicken Pie Kitchen (formerly Don's Pie & Cake)
Food is delicious and served very promptly.
Service staff polite and friendly, especially one who recommended their in house chilli sauce - a petite lady who has a small tattoo on her left wrist.
Dog friendly and dogs are allowed to dine in comfort in aircon with the family.
Parking space at the front but might get packed during peak hours for parking but there are other parking lots within walking distance.
Would definitely come back.
Tried this place before and loved it, so I came back! This time, I had their chicken pot pie combo—it was delicious! The pie was perfectly flaky, with a rich, savory filling that hit the spot. The crab dishes are also fresh and full of flavor. Remember to try their banana pie for dessert, it was really good!
They’ve added a new pet-friendly area, perfect for bringing along furry friends, and a spacious, beautifully decorated private room that's great for gatherings. Consistently great food, friendly service, and now even better spaces to enjoy it in. Highly recommend
Visited Don Pies because it was pet-friendly. Pies were delicious. Crab was huge. Ice lemon tea was served in whisky glasses. Total bill was about $145 for 4pax.
Came by for dinner on a Monday evening and managed to get a pet-friendly booth. For weekends, probably best to secure a reservation. We ordered an appetiser and a large bowl of lala + prawn beehoon soup for sharing. For drinks, had a soda water (refillable) and iced lemon tea (a bit too sweet). Service was great – staff was prompt when called and friendly, even came by our table to confirm details with us after my mom had placed a hold on their large chicken pie for takeaway. This is my second visit so I knew that the food was good. Glad that my parents enjoyed the food too and this time, I brought my dog – the indoor dining experience was comfortable for him. We will definitely return to try the crab dish!
Had always liked "Don Pie" and didnt realize he had reopened as "Chicken Pie Kitchen".
Unfortunately, was quite disappointed:
- both dishes a bit too salty for our liking
- Chicken Pie was average; was initially served cold-room-temperature, had to request to reheat the pie
@Chef Don, we miss your signature beef pie which we have been consuming since 2007
Though the ambience was pretty nice.
Unfortunately service was...... room for improvement.
We have been here a few times with our pup. The food all are very delicious. I think the pets friendly table have more now compare to our last visit. We definitely will be back again soon.
Returned for a 2nd time to treat my cousin. We had,
- Prawn & Scallop Laksa BeeHoon 👍;
- Black Pepper Prawn & BeeHoon;
- Chicken Pie (Personal) 👍;
& drinks.
The food we was tasty with good quality ingredients albeit my Black Pepper Prawn & Scallop was salty. Staff were friendly and responsive. Unfortunately, an unintentional boo-boo by the person handling the til marred a lovely lunch. Was incorrectly charged twice. Resolution was not ideal. Doesn’t appear to know how to reverse charge to my debit card.
Chicken pie, shepherd's pie (filled with black pepper chicken), curry chicken pie ($6.80 each), egg tart ($4.80). total $25.20 inc gst. Liked their chicken pie filling the best but preferred the shepherd's pie's potato crust. Curry was spicy with a decent portion of chicken chunks. Didn't like the egg tart much, custard wasn't as fragrant.
The food is Nice. But waited 45 min for the food on Sun abt 12pm seems like too slow.. Easy to park. The table bit small for 4...and bit cramp for pet and owner in a cubicle.
Spacious enough for dogs unlike some pet friendly restaurants that’s all cramped up and dogs starts barking at each other. Surprisingly good food as well. The lala & prawn beehoon soup is a must order. :)
Love the lala prawn beehoon and the beehoon soup (thick beehoon). Super flavourful. Clams are also big and juicy. Most of all there are some seatings where pets are allowed. But do make sure to book in advance especially if bring the fur babies. Plus the staff are super friendly.
Had tried their lala and prawn beehoon on takeaway. Came to try the crab beehoon and definitely did not disappoint. Ordered the cold drunken prawns, meat was succulent. Use the alcohol in the drunken prawns to add in the crab beehoon soup, up the taste of the soup 😆
Really like the pies, especially the crust on the original pie, flaky and buttery, but it's not fully heated. It was served lukewarm at best which I think kinda diminished some of that warmth you want from a pie.
The place is super small… but it’s nicely decorated. I tink it will be better if u do a take away. If u prefer to dine here come during off peak period. The service is good the food is supper delicious. It’s rather inconvenient to come here wout a car. By the way.. my noodle cost me $15. But I tink its super value for money! The broth ….. yummy. Food portion is super generous too!
I bought chicken pie and kueh lapis to enjoy at home. Family very happy with chicken pie - full of chicken, boiled eggs, buttery crust. Chefs didn’t stint on butter in kueh lapis. Restrooms very clean; parking available at sports centre across road.
Bought 4 chicken 4 Blk pepper n 2 curry pies . Black pepper use to be more peppery.chicken pie a bit drier this time round . Curry it still my best choice. Got it from Ang mio koi hub . Service 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Will go buy again 😃
Interesting that it is a chicken pie specialty store but If you’re a seafood lover, give this place a try! Rich, decadent stock with generous serving of fresh seafood. You can pre-order food items when making reservations and I’m glad I did because the chicken pie were already sold out when I arrived.
Chicken pie was alright but not fantastic, maybe because it was already quite late, will try it again at an earlier timing next time! Give the cold brew tea a miss though, was quite disappointed that it was a tea bag that wasn’t even steeped properly before it was served :(
Overall, a rather pleasant reservation and dining experience with good food & attentive staff. Will be back to try other food items 👍🏼
Came for the pies, loved the laksa! That’s NOT to say the pies weren’t good!
All the ingredients look and taste fresh!
Their laksa gravy is a really good one and the regular portion is already loaded with fresh prawns, a scallop and more.
The chicken pie might be nicer with a little more filling (or maybe more tightly packed to give it a dense feel) but otherwise very tasty with a fluffy crust.
Their apple pie is loaded with raisins and walnuts and isn’t too sweet, which is great. Personally, I’d prefer more caramelised apple though.
Kueh lapis is yummy too! Maybe Indonesians would say it’s not the best of the best but they’d be ridiculous if they said it wasn’t good.
Last but not least, service was friendly, prompt and efficient!
Tried to have dinner the day before but it was full. Tried again for lunch. Really enjoy the pie, beehoon and tea. Service is excellent.
Worth the additional trip.
Black pepper chicken pie was good and enjoyed my prawn and Lala bee Hoon. Portion was good with generous amount of seafood for the price. The place is dog friendly so you can bring your fur baby to enjoy the food with you ! Be sure to make a reservations before going down due to the limited seatings during peak hours !
Fresh, delicious crab bee hoon and chicken pie. The ambient is cozy and relaxing. Chef Don is friendly and chatting with the patrons when he is not busy ... the lady Audrey is also friendly, helpful and cheerful. Do visit if nearby.
Food is super good. 1 bowl of their main “noodle” meal is adequate for 2 adults at least (based on my 2-3 visits there). Their normal “one” chicken/black pepper chicken pie may look (slightly) expensive, ~$6.80, but it’s enough as a snack for 2 person. Only downside is the dine-in area quite small so strongly recommend to reserve seats, & if you’re down for the pie, please check availability before dropping by. But other than these, no complains about the food. Oh yah, did I say it’s value for money? Yes it is.
Got the Crab Laksa Bee Hoon
Was expecting more of a better blend of flavours with crab and laksa involved
But alas it was a typical Laksa, pretty much the same as anywhere
And it felt like the crab was just put on top of the laksa
Excellent food but abit squeezy (pet friendly tables) if you have 3 dogs. Drinks were slow. But food was definitely the star. Chicken pie and white beehoon were all great
The lala prawn soup bee hoon is magnificent. Hearty rich stock with a spicy kick. Perfect for a rainy day or just comfy food. The strong cold brew was nice too. Had a sweet aftertaste. Also had the Lychee Sparkling drink which was delightfully refreshing.
Food was good but service can be improved.
Cashier got afew of our orders wrong.
Our table was not very clean. I didnt like the male server in spectacles because he pretends to clean the table when i asked him to (half fk effort and the table was still filthy) and later pretends not to see us when we call for a server.
However, kudos to server Eileen for the attentiveness and good customer service:) Thank you for making our visit abit more enjoyable.
Small restaurant with only a few tables. Ordered the prawn bee hoon soup to share. The broth was very flavourful! One of the tastiest broth I've had. Definitely would come back again soon.
Good to have a reservation before coming. A nice cosy place to meet up with friends.
Love the chicken pies and beehoon!!!!! ❤️
But will be good if can we have some pies for the furbbs too!!!...😃
Also maybe some furbb gate at the main door (dog section), else once run out, is the main road already...
Thank you, Pie makers! 🥰🫰
Crab beehoon is must-try at this restaurant. It taste absolutely great, with thick broth flavoured with herbs. The restaurant decor is simple and modern. Service crew is a wonderful and friendly bunch.
Although the pepper seasoning was mostly absent upon repeated requests after online payment ( takeaway ), it was bewildering when we came across a slice of the original Chicken Pie that was spicy with the obvious black specks. This was after reassurance from the crew taking orders. A photo of the slice is not taken as the pie was shared and i did not wish to ruin the dining atmosphere ( birthday )
Comparing this to the pie we had at their previous location which was mostly spicy after taste that burns the palate, some of the chicken chunks were slightly over done and few eggs were halved instead. Trying to comprehend their composition.
Perhaps we were given an incorrect flavour at their previous location?
To our memories, pies were not seasoned with pepper that much till it overwhelmed the tastebuds. Not all are into spice too. Spice lovers, however, would like their pies.
It's an all right pie with the crispy buttery crust and numerous ingredients like potatoes, vegetables, meat chunks and eggs.
The hunt for a good chicken pie continues. Thank you.
4stars given becos those chicken pie fillings portion is fantasy, but 3 stars for chicken/pepper pie fillings abit salty, crust not crispy...$6.8 each is worth for the pie fillings...apply to personal pie
Easy to locate by walking from Lavender MRT station. Area is clean & nice with friendly staffs serving us. The lala & prawn white bee hoon is quite big portion even though we ordered the regular size. Ingredients is fresh & the soup taste superb. Will definitely recommend to others.
My favourite go to place for lala bee Hoon and crab bee Hoon soup ever since the toa payoh days.
Happy that they added the pet friendly corner so I can bring my dogs along for meals too.
This must be the mother-of-all-laksa in Singapore … small but cosy cafe serving laksa freshly prepared with rich ingredients like scallops, prawns etc ….priced higher than usual laksas but worth every slurp
Love their last with prawn and scallop. Portion is slightly larger than norm. Of course their pies are fantastic
Dined in on a weekday and the place was so clean and nicely lit. We had Lala & Prawns and tried the chicken pie. They were delicious. Their crab was also a draw! I loved the drink too!
We split a medium order of signature crab between the two of us, and it was good. We haven't had chili crab before so can't compare it to other versions, but it seemed a bit on the sweet side. This restaurant is attractive and cozy, but the service staff seemed to have a lack of interest in the customers.
Cozy! We’ve been here quite a few times. I am picky but I come back all the time to buy pies for parents, and when timing permits to dine in for the yummy prawn noodles.
Excellent service too
Great chicken pie! I think the best ever since I had eaten it for awhile!
Finally I got back the original taste of Don's Pie! I am so happy! This have been missed for so many years. Thank you Mr Don Lim for coming back again with this old school time delicious Pie !
Love the black pepper pie, though it could’ve been warmer. The prawn & scallop laksa was spectacular—good for sharing. Limited seating but we had no trouble getting a table since it was a late lunch.
Great service, excellent food! Had their delectable chilli crab & black pepper prawn + scallop bee hoon!
The chicken pie was good, but the crab beehoon was super disappointing. Crab was not fresh, somemore I got the bigger crab since they said the smaller one was out of stock.
Delicious chicken pie and white bee hoon. Laksa was nice too.
Generous portion for the price.
Not as good as expected in terms of yumminess. The crab flavors were overpowered by the herbs. Chicken pie was so so . Laksa gravy was too lemak rich. But the touch of carrot cake was nice . Service was excellent. Professional show kitchen
An absolutely amazing place for great food! they do not only sell pies! Their menu is small but the dishes are super yummy with very fresh seafood, especially the crabs and prawns. One of the 'must try' dish will be the drunken prawns (cold/hot) as the prawns are big and juicy and the broth is to die for. Then there's the crab bee hoon with cheese, sounds weird but extremely delicious, especially if you order the 'mantou' to soak up the sauce. Regardless, this is a 'go to' place for us to bring friends who enjoys seafood and you should definitely get your hands dirty to savor every bite. Super highly recommended! A+++
The young serve staff were very friendly and helpful. The food is very delicious. The Kueh lapis is yummy.
We decided to try this place @chickenpiekitchen after several of my friends highly recommended it, and boy, were they right.
Some of you may remember Don's chicken pie; they were quite popular in the early 2000s. That explains why this place is called Chicken Pie Kitchen, despite the fact that we've come to try their seafood noodle dishes.
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food we tried. They must have cooked their broth for a long time to achieve the umami magic state. Solid. Given the amount of good ingredients in each bowl, we believe their pricing is completely justified. Do give them a try but their food is slightly on the saltier side so we hope their chef can do something about it.
🧡 IG profile: @spicenpans 🧡
Generous sized chicken pie.
Almost 5 stars. Can’t help but feel that they have toned down the salt to cater to the tastebuds of the health conscious.
A bit of a shame really. If they made it a tad more savory, confirm sure hit with the folks that prefer a more rounded taste profile.
Perhaps a once a week chicken pie special with more salt? Can call it the “salt +”
Anyway tip of the hat to the baking team.
First time dine in. Chicken pie and the one with cheese are ok. Preferred the big one for sharing as much more ingredients. The apple pie not too special, the crust was a little under baked.
Had chicken pie and prawn Bee Hoon soup. Flavourful soup and fresh prawns. Pie was tasty top layer of crust buttery and flaky. Filling was creamy and nice blend. Bottom layer could be lighter.
A cosy place with few tables. The laksa was excellent. The chicken pie was fine.
One of the best, or in fact the best foods i ever ate, excellent pie and flavourful meals!🥰
Would also like to commend my waiter Xavier Tan for being such an awesome host and waiter, it will not be long I will come back here again even though I live punggol!☺️
Delicious pie as usual.
We were given a tour by the management of their new venue. Look forward to dine there soon!
big portions! 1 bowl enough for 2 pax. very tasty yum
Amazing, great service, delectable food👍 Especially our server, Laura 😎 Would come back 10/10
Great food, wonderful service and lovely ambience. :) A delighted experience
Very delicious!
chilli crab and crab bee hoon is very nice!!!!!
Food smells good & it’s dog friendly!
Nice crab bee hoon and chill dining environment.
Good service & food! Love the chili crab!!
Shiok ah!
superb nice atmosphere
I think the laksa and pie here are the most delicious in the world!
If you go to Singapore, you should definitely go here! It's really delicious! !
