Reviews of DANIU TEOCHEW SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
Enjoyed a satisfying meal at Daniu Teochew Seafood. The Cold Roe Crab was a delightful start, with fresh crab meat and creamy roe. The Steamed Pomfret was well-prepared, and the Braised Duck offered a hearty flavor. The Lychee Cheese Shrimp Balls were an interesting twist on a classic. A decent dining experience overall.
When people talk about Teochew food, they typically refer to braised dishes, steam promfort, and orh nee.
What sets Daniu apart from the Singapore Teochew OGs is the introduction of Teochew dishes that were probably lost when our forefathers set sail from Chaoshan to Nanyang.
The dishes here have a homely taste—you can think of it as your grandmother’s cooking. Like the owner himself, you also expect very bold flavours and off-menu items.
While my visit to Daniu Teochew Seafood Restaurant was enjoyable, I was disappointed to learn that raw crab and prawns were not available without a 2-day advance notice. However, I did have the opportunity to try the cockles, which were served conveniently without shells. Although I appreciate the convenience of having the cockles conveniently shelled, my personal preference leans towards other Teochew restaurants that serve them half-shelled. This method not only ensures freshness but also avoids the perception of being frozen.
On a brighter note, the braised goose and pork platter was delightful, especially when paired with the vinegar garlic sauce. The preserved radish kway teow was tasty, although it seemed to lack a bit of the characteristic wok hei flavor.
To satisfy my seafood craving, I opted for the salted baked tiger clam, which hit the spot perfectly. Overall, my dining experience at Daniu Teochew Seafood Restaurant was pleasant.
Went to Daniu to celebrate my dad's birthday. The raw crabs (2 for Sgd180) were the highlight of the dinner, though it was expensive, it was worth the money. However, the other dishes were mediocre to bad. The fish and the prawns were frozen seafood; not fresh, and the fish was not cooked throughly. Thankfully, the staff allowed us to cancel the orders instead - hence, 3 stars for the service!
Heard so much about this restaurant. Decided to give it a try. Service is really excellent. But pls know what you want to order. We was told every dish is signature and very good. You will end up over ordering. The braised goose is not the traditional Teochew slice goose meat with tofu. Meat ball soup, Cold Crab, steam fish are ok. Oyster omelet is not I have expected. Enjoy if you want to go there for experience.
The food is very traditional and good for people who likes really Chinese food. We were not so comfortable with the raw prawns though. The porridge is great as it contains shells and vegetables (not a lot but enough to add flavour) crab was okay maybe because I am used to chilli crab. The beef ball soup was normal too. We were not aware that chicken needs to be ordered in advance so no chance to review how it tastes like. However we ordered goose and pigeon. We were apprehensive while eating as we have not tried it before. The goose tasted like chicken but the pigeon’s meat was harder and lesser( which is rightfully so) But we were not used to seeing the head of the bird and unconsciously, we start to think where did all these pigeons come from. We all know pigeons is a type of bird which can be easily spotted in Singapore. The Orh Ni was sweet like what it should be. The siting dish with salted vegetables was good…maybe because I like sotong.😊 Another dish was the clam with lots of garlic. Boat a favourite of ours.
It's a small restaurant. The atmosphere is pleasant. Food is delicious... Love the cold crab. Pig trotter is tender and juicy. Fried oyster is crispy on the outside and soft inside...yummy! The prawn roll is crispy and tasty. Stir-fried kailan is 80% cooked to perfection. Overall, good experience. Brought some friends and they like the food too.
A Teochew seafood restaurant with a wide variety of fresh delicious seafood. Favourite is the roasted pigeon which was surprisingly tasty and unique! Their salt baked crab and braised dishes are delicious too~
Made reservations with pre-order requests of some dishes. It’s our first visit and we were seated next door to the restaurant which in the day is a cafe. We liked that it wasn’t crowded and we weren’t hurried to finish with 2 seatings - we could enjoy our BYO bottles with the food order.
Chef Daniel is very friendly, while we didn’t know him, he came over to check on our table and our dinner was cooked by other chefs as Chef Daniel just returned to SG.
While the 2 of the pre-ordered dishes were not available, we can understand as those were seafood items.
The marinated raw crabs and raw prawns tasted really fresh and it may be easier to work them through if the shells were cracked more or they are cut smaller. The marination seems to be the same for both the crab and prawn, regrettably I heard so much about their cockles but didn’t get to try the raw cockles as it was not available. I will make a mental note to remind the restaurant to serve the hot food a little later as it came before we were half way through the crab and prawns which were best eaten cold. Maybe good if they can supply special tools to crack and dig the roe and meat of the crustaceans out.
Pigeon was very tasty but one must know it doesn’t has much meat - it should be eaten crisp as soon as it’s served and I had to stop crab , grab one pcs of the bird and return to the crab later.
My favourite is the beef tendon balls soup, it was so light yet flavourful. They do have these packed for take-away which I will come back to get them again for “ready-to-add” quick meals at home. It wasn’t available for me to take home that day though.
The chye Poh hor fun was full of wok hei, and I would have just preferred it to have couple more tbsp of chye poh and perhaps chye Poh charred a bit longer.
The braised goose was served bone-in, not sure why .. perhaps just a one-off, perhaps can check with server when ordering.
Orh-nee is my kryptonite, I am experimental and happy to try their variâtion with spring onions, a lot of lard and water chestnut. My verdict : I still prefer the common version with pumpkin, gingko and sometimes coconut milk. This version here seems to lean towards a little on the savoury side.
It’s a family style, casual restaurant - the elderly lady who served us at the kaffe was very helpful and polite with our requests, esp when we had asked for 2 rounds of ice buckets refreshed, sauces and whatever.
The price imo is very reasonable at only $75 per person with all that food. We did add on a plate of fried oysters which I didn’t try and hands were still busy finishing crabs. A great place for casual get-togethers and if you enjoy BYOB with Teochew food.
This newly opened Teochew seafood restaurant serves excellent fresh seafood. The chef hails from Swatow and turned his passion for cooking to this home business.
We tried a few very nice dishes. The steamed garlic prawns were not only fresh but nicely cooked. The flavor was not overwhelming and tasted great.
The claypot soon hock was simply to die for. Fish is easy to overcook but this one was so nicely done the flesh just melts in your mouth. The sauce it's cooked in is a home-made sauce comprising a mix of salted vegetables and fermented bean paste. Yet the taste is just nice and not overpowering.
We also had the claypot crabs, clams, teochew braised duck and pork and freshly steamed squids - all of which were similarly good.
The beauty of this meal is that it doesn't leave you with a thirsty biting tongue which many Chinese meals tend to do.
The homely ambience adds to the positive feel about this place. Service is friendly and helpful.
The food was OK. Some hits and misses.
The goose or duck was not really good. Can miss that.
The cold crab and prawns - I thought it was nothing special. Cai poh hor fun - think the hor fun not cooked evenly.
The orhh nee is a different style. for orhh nee lovers - u might be taken aback.
Worth a try for fun. The good dishes were pigeon and beef ball soup.
A decent taste Teo chew restaurant. Menu is mostly seafood + Lu shui
I finally tried this to satisfy my Teo Chew porridge craving (the authentic kind that everything comes in one big pot) but a bit disappointing as the soup/ porridge base is not as good as expected.
But other dishes are very decent and authentic, the oyster pancake is super crispy and the braised items (卤水) are served with vinegar. Yes!
The shop is small and cozy. It can be a bit too noisy when it’s full.
Price is ok, a bit pricy compare to local zichar place.
Along the main Kampong Bahru road with convenient parking. Contact Daniel if you have questions. A wide array of seafood dishes cooked Teochew style and great attentive service for your dining experience. I enjoyed the well cooked prawn and fish dishes! Teochew dessert of Yam Or Ni is also available. CNY Lo Hei is also available, see photo. Enjoy !
Delicious! A little far from town Center but worth making the trip there. Raw marinated crab was a highlight.
Very nice chinese restaurant with hardworking and polite staff. Dishes were served fast and delicious. We dine at their private room and it was a good experience.
Will come back again! They deserve the 5 stars!
Fantastic Teochew cuisine. My friend did the ordering (see pics) and everything was ultra delicious. I highly recommend this amazing restaurant.
The raw seafood is extremely fresh and tasty.. it is simply heavenly, especially the raw crab. Beside the food, the boss is super good looking and friendly, and the service staff are really prompt and helpful.
It’s kinda disappointed as we were full of expectations to try this Teochew Restaurant. The first dish was cold crab, it’s fresh and sweet, good taste and special dish which I will say it’s the only highlight of night it’s the fresh crab. And then authentic Teochew 卤水豆腐拼鹅, the goose meat is quite fat, Teochew 卤水 is not supposed to be oily but light and tasty, Clam was fresh and good. The last Teochew fish porridge came to our table very late, very little rice in the soup made me score 3 stars, and this porridge is SGD90?! We didn’t order from menu but listened to the lady boss recommended. Hope the Teochew porridge and Lushui can be improved, I believe you can do better.
Soooooooo gooooooooood!!
Cold crab and beef balls soup are just awesome!! My must go restaurant in Singapore ❤️
The fried rice was not flavoured enough with salt, but the seafood kway teow was slightly too salty! But overall, lots of wok hei in both dishes.
I was expecting traditional Teochew cuisine but was disappointed. Other than the raw crab and prawns, the oyster eggs were okay, others were below par.
Authentic Teochew cuisine. Great oyster omelette and fish.
Food was very authentic Teachew with great service.
Went for lunch with friends a few weeks ago, and I had to say, i miss some of the dishes there. Overall, legit teochew dishes with mostly hits and no misses. Its a pity i did not order the marinated raw crabs and prawns as it wasnt my friends' kind of thing. I will certainly come back to try them one day. Staff showed me around the restaurant, featuring all the private rooms you can get to enjoy with some minimum spending. I was also given a tour on the 'seafood of the day' display freezer, which the staff claimed were selected and bought fresh daily by the boss himself. The floor of the restaurant was a tad greasy so if you have old folks and children, please be careful. Be also informed that Singhealth staff get a 10% discount :)
This was a nice find! The raw crab was really good too!
As a local foodie, I am glad and impressed with the food standard and the quality here. The Teochew cuisines is authentic and sumptuous. Really enjoyed our family dinner here. Will definitely come back with my friends and families. We had cold crab, MARINATED CRAB, claypot prawns, homemade braised goose(marvelous), BAMBOO CLAMS!!NOT FORGETTING SEAFOOD PORRIDGE 😋 👌
Food is great and the seafood is very fresh! The place provides a very old school vibes with the elderly having their meals there.
I enjoyed my lunch there.. will go back again..
Excellent and fresh seafood! My husband and I ordered scallops, prawns and fish. The portion is generous and food was delicious. The claypot fish was excellently done - not overcooked and melt-in-your-mouth. Highly recommend!
Nostalgic Teochew Cuisine By A Humorous Chinese Owner... 👍
This is one of my repeated visits. Tried marinate crab and shrimp, looks like it is an excellent choice. Seafood porridge is another one you must try after the raw carb and shrimp. Somehow, the steamed fish is super fresh, but appear to be most expensive dish in this visit, so maybe shall ask for price always before ordering.
BYO wine is FOC, and best pairing is sauv blanc or champagne. Parking at Spooner is always avail and steps away from the restaurant. Will try other dishes in next visit. 🙏
I felt this is quite an interesting and authentic teochew place to eat, alot of interesting dishes too, i saw a whole family just eat their pidegon. We had both kinds of cold crab there, the raw and cooked version, should def try the raw version. It is similar to the korean style but goes down much better
Authentic Cheow San Teochew crusine. Good spread of selection from braised fowl, vegetables, seafood to dessert.
Rather cramped for 10 person per table. Service was good, allowed reservation and preorder. No cockage charge for wine.
Lunch there and nice environment and great service. Will go back for fish and foods there

I normally don't eat raw food but the marinated crab didn't taste raw
Great food and service. For those driving, can park at the nearby Spooner Rd cp.
Food & service is excellent at this rather cosy restaurant, do give this place a try. Rest assured you'll not be disappointed
Wow. Food is really good. Must try dry fried keow teow. And the orhni if available.

Come to Daniu Chaoshan Seafood to dine
We also asked the ordering staff to introduce the dishes because it was our first time here.
He introduced us patiently
We ordered pork trotters jelly and it tasted very authentic and tasted like my hometown.
The Chaoshan raw pickled shrimps are also very fresh. Their pickled shrimps are really delicious.
The crab porridge is also very fresh and sweet
There is a male waiter who is also very polite and hard-working/the order clerk is also very polite
That day I just saw two of them working, and suddenly a lot of people came.
