Reviews of Doongji Korean Restaurant
A Flavorful Duo: Gimbap and Seafood Pancake
Gimbap: A Bite-Sized Delight
Gimbap, the Korean sushi roll, is a delightful fusion of flavors and textures. Each bite is a perfect balance of savory rice, fresh vegetables, and a variety of fillings like fish cakes, egg, and pickled radish. Wrapped in a sheet of seaweed, gimbap is not only delicious but also visually appealing. The combination of crunchy vegetables, soft rice, and the umami-rich fillings creates a truly satisfying eating experience.
Seafood Pancake: Crispy and Flavorful
The seafood pancake, or haemool pajeon, is a crispy and savory treat. Packed with plump shrimp, tender squid, and scallions, this savory pancake is a must-try for seafood lovers. The crispy exterior gives way to a soft and flavorful interior, complemented by a tangy dipping sauce. Whether enjoyed as an appetizer or a main course, the seafood pancake is sure to impress.
Together, gimbap and seafood pancake make a fantastic pairing. The refreshing flavors of the gimbap complement the savory and crispy texture of the pancake. Whether you're craving a light snack or a hearty meal, this duo is sure to satisfy.
Love the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant. Hahaha, it's the first time I am saying this. The utensils given like super nice and enchance your dining experience. Very thoughtful . Side dishes are great and fresh. Food quality and taste are great. Highly recommended for Korean food cravings. Definitely hits the spot
Craving for Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup, google & found this shop. Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup is super yummy, u can smell it before u eat. Seafood pancake is a must order too, smell super nice & it’s so crispy at the edge tot i am eating prawn crackers.
30 SGD per pax for five people.
Food quite normal and price falls on the expensive side.
The pork trotter is good to try. But 39 SGD.
Honey butter chicken below average: not crispy nor juicy.
BBQ pork belly really mediocre. Okay quality, not well seasoned.
Kimchi pancake a bit overcooked and not flavourful.
For Pickles and kimchi, radish good but others normal.
Bibimbap below average: ingredients not fresh and sauce not authentic.
The food is really good.
Had seconds for the side dishes (i like the sweet dish which i guess is pear?). Had the fried chicken and chewy rose noodle. Fantastic taste wise.
Service is absolutely amazing. The lady boss is also always up and ensuring everything is up to standards.
Cosy restaurant. Delicious, Authentic Korean food. Tender meat in soup that melts in your mouth.
Service went over and beyond. Always patient, always smiling. And when I took away food after dining there, knowing how much I liked one of the side dishes, they also packed it in! 😃 a pleasant surprise… food is nice… so are the side dishes 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
One of the more authentic Korean restaurant along east coast road. I love the gimbap the best, followed by the beef bulgogi that goes well with the steamed rice or with the lettuce. The rose cheese ramyeon is really very cheesy that sticks together. After a few mouthfuls can get a bit greasy. Teokbokkii and the side dishes were quite average I feel.
The taste is okay…not many Korean restaurants along East Coast though
The steam egg and toufu soup is still ok. Not in favor of the Zha Jiang Mian taste.. The pork collar bbq meat is tough. However, their seafood pancake is tasty. Overall, good experience.
Amazing delicious food good portion but the spicy pork we ordered was not spicy at all but sweet
High in satisfaction and value, especially when you do not want to spend too much on lunch. Set lunch is the must order here, and with the refillable banchan should more than satisfied the growling stomach.
Have only tried their jajangmyeon, fried chicken and steamed egg via food delivery. We give 4 stars for the jajangmyeon!! Super chewy noodles and sauce is generous with many chunks of vegetables and meat.
The steamed egg is huuuuge with many ingredients as well! Fried chicken still crispy after delivery!
Would have given 3.5 stars if there's option for half star 😋 not bad Korean food but pork belly was BBQ slightly tough and oxtail soup slightly bland.
Pancake tastes like omelette.
The lunch sets are affordable but sadly the dishes were below expectations. The beef soup, the beef bulgogi and the side dishes were very sweet. Not very authentic.
The place isn’t hard to find as there’s some buses nearby, but if you come by car, you might have some trouble finding ways to park
I recommend the egg as well as the steamboat, but for the range of pork I don’t think it’s worth it for that amount of serving (as shown in the photo), especially if it cost $25.00. But then for the rest of the food, it’s not that bad.
If you want to come during dinner, I advise you to make a booking, especially if you are coming in group. The place isn’t very big so it might take a while before you get a seat if it’s full house.
Overall it’s okay. There are honestly other better Korean restaurants out there, but this isn’t bad either.
Anyway, just a bonus info: the servers here are Koreans, but they know how to speak English!
Walked past this cosy little Korean restaurant at Katong and decided to give it a go. Was packed on a Tuesday night but we were lucky enough to not need to queue.
Ordered the Rose Chewy Noodles (Spicy) and Cheesy Jajangmyeon. Both tasted surprisingly good tbh. The cheese paired nicely with the Jajangmyeon. The rose noodles reminded me of the samyang carbonara noodles, except this uses what feels like glass noodles that are extremely chewy. We were also very amazed at the huge portions. Both of us could only finish half of our bowls haha. The only downside is that both dishes got jelat really quickly.
Staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Side dishes were decent. Would return.
I was not very hungry, but I’ve always wanted to try this kimchi cheese kimbap. The price is reasonable ($9.90++), but it was a little too plain for my liking.
I would like to try the rosé dishes next time!
They have a lunch time menu set too, which is very reasonable too.
We had lunch at this Korean eatery. It used to be one of our favourite dining gem in the east. However, the spicy beef soup this time did not taste as good. Beef was not fresh beef slices that will be used to cook beef bulgogi. Disappointment in the texture of the beef offered this time. Tofu seafood soup ingredients had lesser clams this time. Clams were tiny. Prawns were fresh. Overall service slow. We waited 30 minutes for our food to arrive. It is better to come on a weekday for their lunch deal.
food is nice and yummy and the side dishes is a bonus. serving of food is fast but usually need to do reservation
Nice authentic Korean foods, reasonable price. My family will go to this restaurant again to try new food.
Authentic and one of the best Korean food I have eaten! The staffs are friendly and helpful, The lady boss is pretty too!
Like the kimchi soup with Tuna. Service not bad also. It’s a friendly family shop. Will back again if nearby :)
Great place. Came here for lunch a second time this week. Value for money, tasty authentic food.
Good service, welcoming staff. This place is a gem
Recommended place.. Best for value.. (Compared to other korean restaurants available)
Bibimbab(Hot stone) one is one of suitable food for kids and quite nice. Korean army soup (so called) has quite enough ingredients in it. Probably suitable for drink with korean foods. You can bring your child but must be aware of hot stuffs.
Came at 8pm on a Saturday for dinner. The spicy garlic boneless fried chicken was sooo good with beer! Really loved the tofu pancakes (vegan!) and sweet and sour pork (the tang is different from the Chinese style one). The kimchi jigae had good pieces of octopus rather than lousy frozen seafood. The cheese corn was average and air conditioning was a too too cold else I’d have given it 5 stars
Update:
If restaurant is full, the staff does not have time to entertain. Seems like there is a lack of staff recently. Side dishes are now given with main and not before the main dishes are served. Overall the food is still great!
If reservation isn't made, have to wait for more than hr during peak period.
Food is great, I love the side dishes. Prices are still at affordable range. This restaurant is very small. Went back for more than three times, will go back there again.
The spicy beef soup is the best! But others are so so . Not so good as 5 years ago liao
Many nice foods here can come eat , service Okok only … my first time here
no fuss, menu is simple , food is no fail Korean food but Singapore style and price is reasonable but I think they are cutting down cost, they don’t even serve ice water and tissue paper/ napkin. 2 person but only served 1 serving of condiments, ( who wants to share a dip?!) Bbq meat was cooked in the kitchen but overly cooked, so hard and dried. Standard dropped compared to our last visits
love love love the seafood tofu soup here! somehow other places just don't compare. this little space is owned by a really nice Korean lady so food is guaranteed authentic.
ventilation can be improved though, so be warned you may smell of food after your meal.
Very good service in a clean and efficient environment. Soya fried chicken was very good. Unlimited appetisers was generous. The army stew did not resonate though as overpowered by too much garlic and leek, without some of the usual ingredients present like baked beans and cheese. Portion was sufficient with generous portions of spam, sausage, sprouts, fish cake, teokbokki and ramyun. Nice array of drinks and teas.
Ordered army stem and sweet potato pancake.
Army stew
Taste : 8/10
Service: 4/10
We arrive at 1815. Restaurant opened at 1800. Only 3 table occupied at that time we ordered. It took 45 min for the army stew to served out from the kitchen and still need to wait 10 min for it to cook on mini stove.
Sweet potato pancake
Taste : 9/10
Service : 7/10
Side dishes is free so nothing to complain.
No water tap served. For those who expecting this. All drinks chargeable.
Great Jjajanhmyun/bob(over noodle or rice). Friendly staff and side dishes are great. Taste like authentic Korean food! So glad to find a good Korean restaurant in East Coast Park. Food came out somewhat slow during lunch time when I was there. It was pretty packed even during weekday lunch.
Consistently good Korean staples - their BBQ galbi set, various stews, bibimbap and usual fried rice dishes are always very good. Only downside is kitchen is usually a bit slow - so I prefer to order via Grabfood rather than dine in.
Portions are indeed quite big. Love the side dishes. Ordered ja jang noodles, korean fried rice and seafood steamboat. Liked ja jang noodles the best, flavourful and not too oily or salty... the seafood steamboat, the broth is unlike what I had at other places, while it's good, I found it a little too light. Seafood fried rice, nothing to complain and shout about .
Cozy environment. They don't serve complementary tea or ice water...
Nice Korean food, Rose chewy noodle is a little too chewy
There were 4 or so different kinds of pancakes to choose from. The oyster pancake was just like the or luat in hawker centres but less oily and minus the starch. Surprisingly tasty. 8 hash brown size pieces for 10 dollars plus. The kimch was 3 larger ones for slightly less.
A range of steamboats. 40 dollars. Army stew was my original choice but chose the spicy seafood instead. There were huge fresh prawns, crabs, wild yam pieces, cabbage and the soup was flavourful. Huge and could feed 3 to 4 pax. Service was prompt and staff were attentive.
With refillable barley tea ( like roasted rice tea) the total bill was no more than 61 dollars inclusive of all surcharges for the 2 of us.
Will come again.
It is situated a few doors from Holy Family church. So yummy i forgot to take pics
Came here a few times since 2019 and the food here is pretty good! The side dishes are nice and the korean food here is good.
Do note that this place can get REALLY busy, its best to call and book a reservation ahead.
Honestly the best korean food in the East Area. They gave a lot of seafood in the seafood steamboat and ingredients seem to be fresh and bigger compared to other korean restaurants in general. Definitely recommend. The interior is quite nice too, really love the vibe.
fantastic Korean food. Hard to get parking though. The food is fresh and tasty . Staff friendly. During lunch time might have to wait to get seating but well worth the wait. Well worth it and certainly will be coming again.
Love a small korean resto that brings authentic korean taste, price and food are all satisfying! But expect Qing during lunch hour as it is one of the faves in the neighborhood. My fave will be their spicy beef stew and their beef bulgogi! Yum yum
Awesome food n good service. Lunch set is very worth it.
Great lively restaurant with an assortment of Korean food . I love their crispy potato pancakes and tofu soup. Their side dishes are also quite good. They also have an excellent potato pork rib soup.
As a Korean, this place sells real good Korean food and it seems that they also invent their own homemade sauces as well! The amount of food is value for money :)
A good Korean inspired restaurant with decent food, but it's nowhere Authentic
Nice and good price Korean restautant in the East side.
Came here for the Gamja Tang. Though it's not bad, it's totally unlike the gamjatang I had in Seoul. The BBQ pork belly is great though.
Take away ramyeon with added chicken. Really like that they gave banchan for my small order!
Ordered mild spicy ramyeon + chicken.
One of the best korean restaurant in katong area over the years
Generally good soups, lunch sets are a steal.
Food getting heavily salty and flavoured.
Alway serve good food.
The food is nice n staff is good
It was so delicious last week that I wanted to take my friends to try it out this Friday. Last week it was really delicious, but the stir-fried sundae I ate this time was too sweet and mostly consisted of tteokbokki, the bulgogi was so-so, and the soybean paste seemed too sweet. At least the foreigners seemed to enjoy it, but maybe because it was nearing the end, they didn't finish the food, but they seemed to be trying to quickly clear their dishes, so I'm reluctant to go back.
4/5🌟
In terms of food, I would say 3.5🌟, I have no mistakes but there are no super amazing dishes🥹 It’s not easy to come all the way to Joo Chiat. Maybe there are better choices in CBD for me. The service is very good ➕0.5🌟
I ordered Budae Jjigae and it tasted different from what I had in Korea.
Is cheese trendy these days? It is better not to add cheese to Budae Jjigae.
The amount was too much for two people to eat. Approximately S$50 with 2 beers.
If you go with 3 people, the portion may not be enough, so if you add something, it will cost around S$20 per person.
A place with delicious Korean food and friendly service
It's so delicious. I like sundaeguk the best
Just an ordinary neighborhood Korean restaurant
