Reviews of Food Opera
So many options!!! My mouth is watering. A lot of seats! First thing I want to highlight is that; The elderly uncle who cleans tables is a sweetheart, very nice and smiles, gives such a comforting feeling. I appreciate him so much.
Started with the Hainan chicken rice, the popular fishballs, shanghai xiaolongbao, there’s so many options! Theyre not rushing you when you ask questions about whats included in the dish. Very accommodating and nice. Price is so good too. $12 for a whole meal. $17 for a meal that 3 people can eat!! Depends on the kiosk you go to though.
It’s always clean there! And you do have to discard your trays after eating to designated places. Perfect for a quick bite, and then continue shopping!
Food opera has some really cheap and good food, pepper lunch, takoyaki and dimsum was amazing. So many other stalls that caught my eye, if I am ever back to this place, nasi padang would be the first to go for.
There is a area in food opera where it's somewhat "cordoned off" for patrons of the dimsum stall, just make a purchase of $10, and you would be more or less guaranteed a seat as the crowd is unbelievably overwhelming (to illustrate my point, had to hold my phone in hand for about half a minute before I could get a clear shot).
Come during weekdays it will not be too crowded during peak hours. Plenty of food to choose from in this food court. Worth to try the Kam's Roast Express but it is a bit on the more expensive than usual food court price.
Located on ION.
You can find the way by digital directory.
Or just see the way findings.
The area is pretry huge with lot of selections of food.
The food cost you 5$ to 15$.
The traffic is pretty busy here.
Food taste was ok.
Certainly a little pricier than most food courts but some interesting and yummy options. The Tekong fish soup was quite tasty, with fresh fish as well as fried fish. Their fried fish was not the inferior Dory like nearly all the fish soup stalls but snakehead or toman , more expensive and a much better eating fish.
I was disappointed with the kaya pastry. I think it would have been much yummier if it was fresher , but quite a hard crunch and the filling was just sweet, not kaya custardy. Not cheap either.
However, for a food court in the most prime of locations, one should not complain.
Of course seating is a big issue but one does have to wait for value for money in air con comfort in the heart of Orchard Road.
I wanted to try the Michelin star roast duck rice but the queue was so long so I went to another food stall and bought the mixed vegetable rice instead since there is no queue there. To my horror, it cost $9.60 and there was hardly any meat but fats in the cha siew. Now I understand why there is no queue here. ☹️
One of the best food courts in orchard. Always crowded so best to come earlier (before meal time peak periods) to grab a seat. Love the rojak and popiah combo ( best of both worlds!), Lixin fish ball noodles and nasi padang.
Always find this place interesting because of quality foods with great price
Food Opera, by Food Republic, used to be the Rolls Royce of Food Courts but has aged and no longer as exciting. But taking down the 2 level escalator from B2 remains an experience.
Deco was inspired by the timeless British colonial decor style in Singapore, the is a sprawling 19,000SQF food court. What we like:
1) Padang Padang Indonesian Cuisine
2) Ah Chew Yong Tau Hoo
3) Jia Jia Le rice stall
4) The beverage stall that does Fanta Icees
5) Shou Yi fried fritters
Prices are a little expensive but it’s at ION and Orchard Road rents are expensive
The lor mee and clay pot spinach are two of my favourite things to get here - you can’t go wrong either way! The carrot cake and char kway teow are variable depending on who cooks it
A thumb up for the stalls found within the food court. Impressived food to have includes Fish Maw pig stomach chicken soup, Fish ball noddle soup and fried nian gao fritters.
Thai food stall is one of the favourite, authentic cook of thai food. Thye Hong carrot cake also nice to try. White and black
Location: Orchard Ion
Price : More expensive than normal foodcourt.
Taste: ok
Atmosphere: Aircon high class Foodcourt.
Service: You find your seat, go queue at the stall you want, you order, you pay, they cook, you collect and go back to your seat, eat then go.
Pros: Inside aircon mall. Recommend the Beef Noodles.
Cons: Can be quite hard to find seats sometimes. More expensive.
Food Opera was like a heaven for food. You can find delicious looking food everywhere. The only problem was space. You literally have to be arm to arm with other diners. It was a food court but it doesn’t need to be a warzone just to find a table.
Lots of choices and plenty of eating area. No short of selection of local and Asian food. Servings are fast and quick. Faster than Mcdonald fast food.
Come during off peak hours so that queue is not that long. Love the broth that is rich with prawn flavour. I order the king prawn version which is $8.50. Very reasonable price for food court nowadays for prawn noodles with big prawns.
So crowd but they have alot of good option..
Coffee was typical Nanyang style but the cup was small and a little too expensive. The chendol was tasty. Too much ice. Very crowded and noisy as it was 3 plus tea time.
$8 Nice Pad Thai with prawn (4 nos)..
It's tasty.. chillie sauce too.
Nice and clean environment. Lots of choices. But most of the food are average tasting only.
Food Opera operates out of basement 4 of Ion Orchard. This is in the prime area of Singapore and heart of the shopping belt.
The ambient and setting of the food court is indeed beautiful. The decor is good.
Food courts are specially operated, usually air-conditioned and found within shopping malls and there aren't repeats of any food choices. Food prices are generally much higher than compared to food centres.
Plenty choices of food. Convinient when shopping. Nice decor
the rojak (small size $6.50) is abit ex, but quite nice. got mango, apple, pineapple, you tiao etc.
Tried the prawn laksa and prawn noodles today. Both are unbearably saltish. What happened to the less salt, less sugar drive ?
Large variety of food available at affordable prices. Food quality is pretty good too. I had the Mala hotpot and was satisfied. I would also recommend the fish soup 🥣
Food wise is okay only other than its air-conditioned environment in humid Singapore.
A great food hall even if it is designed more for tourists. It’s so cheap compared to other options. Really enjoyed this pepper beef.
Awesome food. Have a field day dining here. There is almost everything local here and then some.
Good local foods. You can find almost all the Sinaporean hawker foods here. Good price as well !
Nice food court with lots of nice foods to choose from. One of my fav fc in singapore
Love it. So much food and it’s not so crowded around 8.30pm here on a weekday. Clean and tables are wiped. Lots of customers too.
Ion Food Opera
Perennially packed foodcourt in the basement of Ion Orchard Mall. Worth a try for their several different varieties of stores though the longest queue goes to the Fishball Noodle stall.
The Damage (no drinks): S$15-25 for two
Quick Notes:
Indo BBQ is rich and good, worth a try. Long queues in the Fishball Noodle stall but quality has dipped a bit. Thye Hong is okay. Pass on Kams
A huge food court with lots of options to choose from. Gets quite crowded at lunch time but there's plenty of seating. I ordered the chicken rice, which was very tasty.
Giving five stars for the only store I visit in food opera - Li Xin Fishball Noodle.
For tourists, please note that food opera is a typical food court in Singapore with many stores selling different foods
Love the kopi siew dai ( coffee less sweet ) and the nasi padang. The ambience look and feel cozy and pleasant.
While we love to eat here, finding a table is the worst of the experience. It is almost always crowded throughout its opening hours. A bit pricey but the food is excellent. if time is on your hand, try their Indonesian, 饭菜, Putien dishes.
Many food to chose from even pu tien is having a stall here too
Nice laksa and desserts stall.
Great place, and spacious!
There is one stall that I like here, which is the mixed rice (nasi campur) hahha and also the dessert is very delicious. The price is not too expensive for the size of a food court.
Probably one of the best food courts in Orchard Road with a wide range of hawker delicacies available. Must try the fishball noodle here.
Look for Teochew Fishball noodles. Free flow vinegar. One of the best tasting noodles in the area at a reasonable price. These fishballs are bigger than my dreams.
Fantastic fresh food. Amazing that such a place exists so close to the MRT.
Food variety and selection is good. But the maid near entrance is so nasty and angry like a mad dog all the time. The incident at 7 PM, 2 Oct 2023. Thank you for hiring better and suitable cleaning personel.
Love the nyonya laksa and fry hokien noodle here.
This place never been so quiet before. Usually it's very difficult to get a seat.
for the lixin fish ball noodle and hokkien prawn noodle. love the yong tao foo and chicken rice too.
The hum chim pang cinnamon donut sold here at the front is the best in the whole universe. It’s not oily as other shops. It taste fluffy and the outer part has a slight delightful crisp bite.
Have you ever seen one of those food courts in a mall? Imagine that but 6 floors high.
That's how many food places there are in here 😜
If you can't find something to eat or you have a picky eater, I think this place can help them out!
The kueh chap at this food court is nice
Lots of food. Lots of seating. Good for when you are in town. Clean and bustling food centre
Layout of place is confusing. Easy to lose direction. Narrow and hard to find space during peak hours. Tables were generally pretty clean. Cleaners eager to clean tables. Food taste and quality overall is average. Prices were well above average and not worth. Might be better to consider other eating places unless you eating alone or with one other person. Bigger group might be more worth to eat in a simple restaurant because might end up same costs to fill stomach. A bak chor mee set with tiny portions cost $8.50. I might as well pay just a bit more to get better food, service and seats. Well. Up to individual to assess of course.
Great location great food vendors and wide varieties of food selection! However, due to some black sheeps of the service staffs i.e. those cleaners that clear the tables, the supervisors of the cleaners and some stalls cashiers, they do not seem to have the most basic courtesy and were rude, much less of any service. In addition, some payment methods like their own food republic app and via other 3rd party like fave pay etc are not always working well or the connection to make payments will be slow or with unstable network, so best to have some cash on hand just in case.
Selling @ $58 per roast duck with bones removed. Char siew @ $23 for serving of 3 person.
Great variety of local and regional Chinese, Indonesia, Malaysian, Thai foods. Prices are relatively higher but the convenience of a centralised location for our taste buds makes our money well-spent.
Used to enjoy dining here but no longer so. Compared to other food courts, most stalls here are of decent quality even if they are highly overpriced which is understandable given its location. But as years passes some of the better stalls were gone with its replacement mostly lackluster, even some of the existing ones somehow doesn't taste the same anymore, probably no longer managed or cooked by the original stall owners/chefs.
The place still appeal to many with its enclavement of multiple popular chain stalls but it no longer appeal to my taste bub.
The food here is pricey but still pretty good
Had one of worst experiences at this food court today. The food stall vendor was rude. On top of that, the Cleaners were rude. Before I could even consume finish my food, the cleaner just grabbed my bowl and tried to clear it away. When I told the cleaner, she was so unhappy and immediately displayed her unhappiness and glared at me. Food prices are generally high as compared to other Food courts.
It has some of the best food. Unfortunately, i have only been lucky enough to be able to eat there a very few times. In my few times, i have only been fortunate to eat the 'pad thai noodles' . They were amazing! The ambience is amazing! Even to just sit there and work, it would be such a nice place. It in a way, makes you feel home, during COVID-19 that is. Before it, the hustle and bustle of the place makes you go crazy. Nevertheless , it never fails to surprise me everytime i go there.
Complete variety of foods,we tried Li Xin fishball noodle and East coast lagoon for their Nyonya Laksa jumbo prawn. All menu are so flavourful
One of the few food courts with a plethora of scrumptious delights. Price is steeper than other food courts as expected. There is the Ipoh Nam Heong outlet here to satisfy your cravings for Ipoh hor fun 🐶
Indonesian loves came to this Mall and dine in here but sadly theres too many unhalal food so for Muslim dont have so many option here..
First time come in to this food court, and as expected, price is expensive although portion is generous(yong tau hu). I always wonder why it’s call food opera and now I finality realised. The table is shaking. So I change to another, yet again it’s slanting, the table top is loose from the leg piece. I change another time but table is still shaking, I give up.
The food court here is good, with a lot of delicious food to choose from. Plus there are many restaurants outside. The price is not too expensive. Also close to the underground station. Convenient to travel too.
Shopping tired from walking,
Simply eat something at Ion Food Court.
-Shanghai sentiment pan-fried buns
I was very attracted to the pan-fried buns and got a box.
A little expensive.
The flavor is fragrant, be careful as it may burst.
-Tai Fung Fried Prawn Noodles and Fried Kway Teow
Kway Teow is unexpectedly delicious
The shrimp noodles are not so good.
-Ganpai Shaowei
The roast duck here is better than Bishan's and Changi's.
The barbecued pork was a little thin.
This food court is known for its delicious food.
Here I ate laksa, fried rice, and watermelon juice.
First, place a tissue on an empty seat to secure your seat. It was very crowded and I had a hard time finding a seat.
You can enjoy a variety of cuisines including Chinese, Indian, Malaysian, Korean, Japanese, and Italian.
I wanted to try laksa, so I bought it at EAST COAST LAGOON. For drinks, I bought watermelon juice at another store.
Watermelon juice is popular here, and I often see red juice. The taste is exactly like watermelon lol
Laksa is spicy and delicious.
The white soup has curry and coconut flavors.
The bitterness comes later. But it's so delicious that I can't stop eating it with chopsticks. And the noodles are surprisingly short! Are they easy or difficult to eat? lol
Food courts usually don't have paper napkins, so tissues and wet wipes are a must.
★Postscript★
Actually, I forgot my favorite sunglasses on my chair after lunch.
It was just before 6pm when I realized I had lost it. 5 hours have already passed. I was in a resigned mode, thinking that someone must have taken it. I took a glimmer of hope and checked with the person in charge of cleaning up the food opera to see if I had forgotten anything. Then, he took me to the office at the back of the floor, and when I told the woman who seemed to be the manager about the situation, she asked me if this was it and gave it to me!
When I rode the MRT, I thought that Singaporeans were very civilized, but I thought it was really wonderful that no one took them and kept them. Losing something is something that would never happen overseas.
I also think it's great that even with my broken English, they took care of things I forgot.
I'm really happy that you liked it, and I'm grateful from the bottom of my heart.
[July 2024] I ate Hokkien Mee from Taiho. If you pay in cash, the cash register will not be used, so you will not receive a receipt.
[Visited in August 2018] I ate Asia's bak kut teh and Taiho's Hokkien mee. The Hokkien Mee was especially delicious.
A food court in a shopping center that covers Singaporean gourmet food. It feels beautiful and gorgeous.
It can be difficult to find a seat during dinner.
I ate char kway teow (stir-fried rice noodles) from a restaurant called Tai Fung and suckling pig roast rice from a Hong Kong-style roast meat restaurant.
The char kway teow is my favorite flavor and it's amazing.
Not too oily and full of flavor.
The roasted suckling pig also had crispy skin and was delicious, but I was concerned that the sauce on it was a bit strange (it had a faint Chinese herbal or herbal flavor that I didn't like).
There were several drink stalls and they were well stocked.
ION's Food Opera is recommended for those who want to eat local food in a cool and clean environment.
great space for food and nice ambience. price is a little higher than most food court but worth it.
The beef noodles sold there is far too expensive. Exact brand, exact order, but $5 cheaper at Marina Square Food Court. Even the Jumbo Prawn Noodles is cheaper than their beef noodles. Day light robberies. I wont patronise again. This is the problem with Food Republic Food Court. The same issue with the beef noodles at Suntec City Food Republic. Eventually closed down!
