Reviews of Habibi-san
Best grilled octopus I ever had and hubby said it was the best brussel sprouts he ate. All the food we ordered was very good. The made to order cocktails base your preference is bonus
. Definitely should try this place if you visit Singapore!!
I will forever want to gate-keep this place but I hope you guys never ever close because I love the skewers and dips here. The hummus, babagannoush and Brussel sprouts are my favourite. Drinks are great too! Friendly and helpful service staff
When you eat at habibi-san, you can tell that thought went into each dish. Japanese-Middle Eastern is a style of fusion that only makes perfect sense in the hindsight of having eaten there. Most of their dishes are skillfully informed by fire and smoke, so their grill is competently employed.
The service, too, is personable and helpful, setting a fun, casual tone that is congruent with the ambience and food.
I recommend the lamb ribs, pork collar, and grilled seabass. The hummus is a must, and I have a personal fondness for the kibbeh.
I've been several times, and the consistency is good. Great place for dates or hangouts with friends.
Came back here again to celebrate my wife & I anniversary. The food quality was great lots of love went into the building of the menu everything we ordered was a hit for us.. Strongly urge everyone to try their matbucha and prawns 👍 and try our their bar drinks cause they will try their best to match a drink according to your taste buds..
Kudos to the team
Had an absolutely wonderful dinner over here. The dishes were all so interesting and innovative. Also first off, I really have to commend the staff for being extremely warm and friendly!!
Onto the food - had some really show-stopping dishes here. The Baba Ghanoush with crispy chicken skin was immensely flavourful and smoky. The Grilled Seabass doused with miso butter sauce and chives was so good we wiped the plate clean. But my favourite dish of the night was the Brussel Sprouts tossed in sesame sauce and topped with bonito flakes. Fiercely delicious.
Would skip the beef tartare and mentaiko taramasalata. The mocktail was alright.
Fantastic place with good food and drinks from bar stories. Food portion can be small if you are very hungry. Their hummus and Brussels sprouts are must try! Love it.
There is no menu for Cocktails and it’s made based on your taste profile preference. Love that I get to try new drinks rather than Negroni all the time.
Place is cosy but can get noisy when it gets crowded.
Walking around haji lane and saw this place. I just went in without reservation, glad that they can accomodate me(I'm alone). The prices are reasonable, I was only going for some cocktails.
They don't have a menu for cocktails, just tell the bartender what you like and they will prepare something for you. I was there only for an hour.
The servers are friendly, nothing more to say when you go to their outdoor toilet. It was awkward but kinda fun.
This place is worth the tedious parking options and climbing of stairs. Chef Jonathan and Nadine have created a menu that I never get tired of dining from. Most times, even after ordering too much food, I still have at least 5 other dishes I wish I could order or reorder.
Bar Stories owner Dave and his team provide excellent service, menu recommendations, and customised drinks that make each visit unique.
Some our favourites:
Feeed Me! Omakase menu
Octopus with macadamia tahini
Miso clams
Roo meat (which was on the Omakase menu along with MANY other yummy dishes)
Everything was well executed & the dishes were creative and very flavorful. Can’t get enough of the Babaganoush with a Japanese influence to it. Service was great too and we deeply enjoyed ourselves. Drinks served by Bar stories also went very well with the food. Definitely coming back whenever I’d like to have a chill time with friends coupled with upscale food & drinks!
This joint was super on point. Amazingly friendly staff. Ofc the drinks were good (Bar Stories), but the food was creative and delicious. Can’t say everything was flawless, but nothing disappointed. The mezze was awesome. The sea bass main was amaze. Super interesting twist on kibbeh (only the second raw kibbeh I’ve ever found).
If I had any small criticism it would be that the octopus was slightly overdone, but it was still beautifully charred, and the pork dishes could have been slightly more tender, but the flavors were still super interesting and the plates were cleaned.
We’ll be keeping an eye on the menu to plan our next visit. Thanks!
Great service and perfect ambience for a date 😉 The food are delish and special as they are Japanese and Middle-Eastern fusion. Tried the Babaghanoush for the first time with Pita bread which was quite unique to me, it's an acquired taste/texture. The skewers to me were just normal (can save your stomach for other food). The Iberico pork with tomato relish is shooo goood! Ended my meal with a sweet and lovely Yuzu desert 👍
Excellent culinary experience. Chef uses a really interesting mix of flavours and spices. I don't usually like to have fusion food, but this restaurant changed my mind.
The favour that caught our attention most really is the chargrilled flavour in the dishes, comes in subtle and blends well with the ingredients.
We ordered 4 appetisers, and 1 main to share. And every dish blew our minds.
The whiskey cocktail is amazing too. Nice use of Yuzu in the drink.
Well done! Highly recommended restaurant 👍👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Situated along Haji Lane, the entrance to the restaurant is actually up the stairs beside the door which we initially thought was the entrance. Very cool restaurant / bar setup!
Service staff is excellent. Everyone is super familiar with the food menu and willingly made recommendations. They don’t have a drinks menu and only offer bespoke cocktail concoctions based on your personal preference. The staff will check in on us at intervals to ensure everything is going well, not overly intrusive. They were able to explain every single dish placed on the table instead of most other restaurants where they just place the dish down and walk away. Maybe it’s also due to the uniqueness of their menu, but it’s appreciated.
We ordered 3 Omakase set to sample their dishes, and also added on pigs tail karaage. We were first served a platter of warmly grilled pita (only 6 pieces I think, which means it’s 1.5 pita) along with 2 dips and 1 beet root dish. My fav is the taramasalata. We ordered 1 more pita to finish the dips (cut into 4). Then came the Brussels sprouts and iberico pork jowl skewer. Both were divine. Must order.
After this was the grilled octopus (super strong chargrilled taste, goes well with macadamia sauce) and the pork tail karaage. I don’t know what I was expecting with the pork tail karaage but it was pretty hard to eat - just pick it up and gnaw on it. I imagine it will pair well with beer.
Last main is the iberico pork shogakaki. My gosh it’s like pork version of wagyu. Must order.
Bespoke cocktails were made according to our preferences. Absolutely no complaints. We ordered 4 different kinds. All hit the mark.
Located on 2nd floor, within Bar Stories. Loved the vibe. You can get any cocktail you want - they don't have a menu but you can tell the bartender the flavors you like and they'll make something unique. No beer or wine though.
Food was delicious, especially the spreads + pita. The chicken wings stood out. A bit disappointed with the mains - the salmon was nothing special.
Came here for a Christmas dinner celebration and everything left me in awe as it was just. So. Good.
However the highlight of the day was the grilled fish - it was grilled to perfection and the charred taste with mentaiko and ikura was simply to die for. If I’m back it would definitely be on my table again 😂😍
Cozy space so it can get a little noisy. Unique flavours and fusion dishes. There isn't a drink menu so you either order like a pro or share what sort of flavours you like and it's a surprise what you get. I ended with a refreshing yuzu and gin concoction, liked it. Burrata paired with smokey cherry tomatoes topped with onion bits and we were off to a great start! Twice cooked Iberico pork jowl was generously coated in spice, best part was the charred bits on the edges. Kibbeh Nayyeh is a fav, so good but I shall leave it for you to try and be surprised. Fermentle octopus was decent. For half a chocolate tart with peanuts and side of kinako cream, $14 is a tad steep but still enjoyable nonetheless. Sakura Malabi was soso. It's a pity the menu isn't regularly refreshed as it would get boring pretty quickly having the same few items on the menu.
Note that their website, FB and Google maps indicate 5.30pm as opening but Chope bookings are available for 5pm. A tad confusing here but they open at 5pm according to reservation time.
We finally managed to get a reservation and were sadly too full for the Omakase sets.
We had knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive servers who really made us feel at home. On their recommendation, we ordered the signatures: pitas and mentaiko dip, brussel sprouts and the chocolate tart to end the meal.
Don’t get me wrong, everything was wonderful, especially the service (and the cool toilet), but only the brussel sprouts was particularly standout. Similarly, the negroni was well done but also not terribly special.
While there is nothing wrong with classic food done perfectly well, the bit that disappointed me was the drink. Bar Stories has always been known for their bespoke cocktails, and we had asked for “a twist on the classic” but got a run-of-the-mill (boozy!) Negroni that I could have probably gotten at any good cocktail bar of Bar Stories’ caliber. Maybe the only thing that got a twist was the orange peel in the drink.
Anyway I’ll definitely be back for the omakase, but will most likely give their drinks a miss.
Food was interesting, a good mix of Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine. We much enjoyed the mezzes and pitas, especially the babaganoush and pickled beetroots. The kibbeh Nayeh (like a beef tartare) was full of flavour.
Cocktails are inventive and refreshing. We enjoyed the lovely atmosphere at the bar.
Great food and drinks! Im not a cocktail person but the drinks from bar stories are always really creative and tasty. The food however was awesome - I especially loved the beef which had herbs in it which gave it a really unique taste
Amazing dining experience oozing with exciting flavours! Had the Feed Me! Omakase set and added a few more dishes I personally wanted to try. The dinner wildly exceeded my expectations!
A middle eastern kind of izakaya with bespoke drinks and delicious food. Though the food menu has limited items, it does bring to taste a different experience of flavors that can be mind blowing, full of umami and intriguing. Do tell your preferred drinks flavor or taste, so that they can contrived the drinks just for you.
Best brussel sprouts. Definitely wanna return for more of the brussel sprouts. Other than this, we also ordered the mentaiko taramsalata (good but quite rich so ended up eating a lot of pita with it), seaweed chicken tsukune (very juicy inside) and the DIY Lamb Kebab which was very yummy but by this point, i was too full to DIY with the pita and just enjoyed the lamb with salad. Service was good too.
Great cocktail experience. Bespoke cocktails depending of your mood. Staff is very friendly and take time with each customer. We took the special menu with 8 dishes, good option if you come for the first time to have a taste of all. Too bad there was no music due to the COVID restrictions.
Enjoyed the izakaya dinner and love the fusion food. Must haves are the rib eye and Brussels sprouts salad. The fish was great too. Dessert selection a bit limited.
We weren't very hungry so we ordered their pita bread with dips (Which is quite filling too). It was good, nothing to rave about. However, their cocktails and service are really good. Only regret was not ordering more cocktails!
@ Habibi-san
Stepping out of the comfort zone to explore Middle Eastern food and I am not disappointed 🙃 Blew my mind. In fact I wanna hide this place from everyone🥲 Shooooooo.

• Pita ($3/pc)
• Chickpea Hummus ($13)
• Roasted Brussel Sprouts ($16)
• Iberico Pork Jowl ($12)
• Shish Tawook ($8)
A hidden gem in the midst of haji lane, the middle-eastern and japanese fusion dishes here were really unique. The must-tries are the brussell sprouts, babaganoush and the octopus. Portions are on the small side so you might have to order a little more dishes to be filled up.
Cocktails were lovely. There is no fixed menu for drinks. You get to describe what you feel like having and they whip something up. Cocktails volume is small though (came with a big block of ice in it).
Food was okay. The pork jowl was lovely. So was the pita bread. But we didn't particularly enjoy their signature brussel sprouts or the babaganoush. The fusion concept wasn't sufficiently harmonious for my group of diners and I.
Awesome cocktails and mocktails ever tasted on earth! Super yummy bites and worth every single dollar spent!! Highly recommended!!
Food was generally very good, but I think a bit overhyped (who doesn’t do a great brussel sprout dish these days?). The omakase is not worth the $$ - you can get a wider selection and just as much food if you order al la carte. The biggest downfall, however, is the service. While our waiter was great, the attitude of the other servers was as if we were lucky to be getting any attention from them. The drinks situation is even more awful. There is no menu and only cocktails, which take 20+ min to arrive and in no way coordinated with the food. Atmosphere is also meh. It is more hipster cocktail lounge than proper restaurant, which was not clear going in.
This place is more than amazing. Everything we ate was magic. My favorite was the seabass. It’s CRAZY good.I am Lebanese and it’s lovely to see the twist on my country’s national dishes so well executed. An absolute pleasure. Drinks were also very good!
Lovely feel. Lovely ambience. Japanese ambience with Mediterranean food. Surprisingly they customize everything. The bar tender will come to your table and customize the entire drink for you. Awesome 🤩. Look for Khalil. I think the best bartender in town.
Hidden away in the heart of Haji Lane, you are greeted with a nondescript entrance to Habibi-san. It then reveals to you the uniqueness and hippy atmosphere.
We ordered the omakase styled set, and was unexpectedly filled to the brim by the wonderful fusion of Mediterranean-Japanese food. Accompanying it, we ordered specially curated cocktails that were designed according to our likes and preferences.
Highly recommended for both food and service!
Had the Omakase set with a friend here this week. I’d say that the flavours are uniquely delicious; the mezzes are impressive, though the one that stood out the most to me was the Mentaiko Taramasalata. The first mouthful and I was swept off my feet! At first, my friend didn’t enjoy the dish as much as I did, but it grew on her as she developed an acquired taste for the fusion mentaiko with strained yoghurt over the course of the meal! She ended up loving it.
Most of the meat in the mains were grilled and charred to perfection; my favourite was the Fremantle octopus! The accompanying sauces and dips were all very creative and interesting.
Service was excellent too. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is that the place seemed a little too cramped for sustained comfort; at the beginning the waiter had to slow our meal down because our table had 4 small plates and could not accommodate any more.
Nonetheless I would not mind being back for more!
Omakase dishes were REALLY good with ample serving sizes.
However service has room for improvement. (waitress didn’t really know the menu well and it took ages and multiple requests for the bill to arrive)
Food was quite salty for me yet I assume it’s okay for most people. But the food quality was very good. The service was very good. Menu is very limited. The indoor seating area was very noisy maybe because of the closed settings... portion was slightly small as it’s more tapas style. For me, I wouldn’t go back though it was nice to try it.
$$$but well worth it. Highly recommended. You won't be disappointed. Haji Lane itself is a gem in Singapore anyway.
Overall food and cocktails were better during my first visit in Sept 2022..
Great vibes from H-s, drinks and food were great seperately but not very complementary! Perhaps have them before and after the food.
Not really convinced by the dishes. They're quite innovative but they lack the "wow" effect that makes you want to come back.
Great cocktails!
