Reviews of Megumi Japanese Restaurant
Teppayaki Beef, sushi and garlic rice are yummy. Sadly no salmon belly when we were there. We ordered a spicy noodle level one thinking it will be mild spicy but it turns out to be very spicy even at level 1; the noodle is soaked with the spiciness.
Ambience is great and price is good.
Tried Soba noodles and tempura for the first time and found it quite bland even after adding some soy sauce and a bit of the other condiments.
Nonetheless, the tempura was quite crisp and I liked the Avocado Maki as it’s not often to find vegetarian sushi anywhere! :P
I had the kaisen don lunch set, and the ingredients were fresh, with nicely seasoned rice. The set also included miso soup, salad, tofu, chawanmushi, and tea.
Bit hidden place so I wonder here just by poor luck, but very nice service, polite and menu created so you at first time will have hard time to choose.
I took Shoyu Charsiew Ramen and it was delicious. Ramen menu set as advertised infront of restaurant is available only at weekend and in lunch time, but on the end I was more than satisfy.
just take in mind that prices are without tax and service charges.
It’s been a long time since I last ate at Megumi and it was when they were at Upper Wast Coast Road before they moved to this location. I am really delighted by the quality of the food. Every dish here is great. We were looking forward to Aji (Horse Mackerel) Sashimi but they have run out and it comes on Friday. Will definitely come back here for that.
Cozy Japanese restaurant serving enticing range of dishes with great service. It has recently relocated from Upper East Coast to Joo Chiat. We are back for our favorite sashimi. They come in thick slices and really fresh. Must tries are the butterfish, mekajiki and salmon belly. Next is the Chawamushi, silky smooth with sweet savory broth topped with the salmon roe, it's just bursting with flavors. We also like the Unagi tofu and tender Hokubee beef teppan.
Ordered the Kanpachi Salmon Don and it was amazing! Fish was fresh, rice were perfectly seasoned. PLUS, staff here was so friendly.
Definitely recommend getting your Japanese fix here.
Finally paid a visit to this restaurant after hearing an extremely positive review from a friend. Food is extremely fresh and delicious although slightly pricier, but you pay for what you get and I would gladly pay for this quality of food! Service is also fast and staff are extremely friendly, plus they offer free parking right outside the restaurant. Would definitely visit again :)
Pleased with the food and variety. Can't really complain much about service too. Boss was there so that helps with quality control. Odd thing I found was kids meal comes with Yakult, but was not served. When asked it was told to me it was a dessert?
Our go-to place for frequent Japanese food craving. They offer a wide variety of food at reasonable price and high quality. The ambiance is nice, cozy and comfortable setting. The service is fantastic, nothing to complain about. I feel like their strength is in the sushi, sashimi, fried and rice bowls. The soupy bowls like ramen, udon are not impressive but acceptable. Overall a very safe dining option - you can order anything on the menu and can't hardly go wrong. They have butter fish sushi which is interesting, low price and totally satisfying - recommended.
Great set lunch as they have promo so it come out to 15 bucks all in. Value for money. Good variety to choose from as well.
Super fresh sashimi here at Megumi. The staff here were helpful and welcoming. We had a good time here.
Great Japanese food with a wide selection of seafood picks! Generous portions and they do put effort to make their dishes a cut above the rest.
A bit pricey. Foods are good but nothing impressive.
Nice slices of sashimi. Fresh.
Tempura was just ok.
The best katsu curry rice I’ve never tasted before🥹..
Another hidden jem in jii chiat area. Good quality food at reasonable prices. Neat n tidy seating n frdly services too.
Decent Japanese food. Not super fantastic. Nice ambience for gathering.
First time trying this restaurant and I must command it for its freshest sashimi that melts in the mouth. The A5 Waygu beef was grilled to perfection. Both the boss and boss’s son provided tip-top service…a restaurant that is worth patronizing again! Reasonable price too!
Slightly above average Japanese restaurant serving wide variety of dishes. Definitely okay for a quick dinner with the family. Thought I felt that the dons were lacking in flavour and sauce….. I.e unagi and pork don.. had to ask the servers to give us more sauce. Service staff were friendly… so that’s good.
Great food! Ordered the salmon mentai don, which was delicious. Very friendly and professional wait staff.
Really good and fresh Japanese food that is worth it for the price! The owner and the staff are all really friendly and attentive. Their sashimi is a must to get! Will definitely come back here again
nice ambience!! much more comfy compared to their previous location at siglap! overall a satisfying yet slightly expensive dinner
This review is long overdue. I’ve been a faithful patron of Megumi from when they had a branch in sunset.
Now that they’ve consolidated to JooChiat, the experience is even better.
The food as always is top notch. I was just there again on 4th Aug for dinner and it didn’t disappoint at all.
Quality of food is that of a premium Japanese restaurant and the portions are right sized.
My Japanese friends also dine here so that definitely stands for something.
The service is of course excellent. There’s a reason why there are so many regulars and the staff recognise them in an instant and remember names and preferences.
The sashimi is to die for as the produce is airflown from Japan. It’s definitely premium. I understand the new lead chef has introduced more types of sashimi which great. The presentation is always so pleasant hence the experience before diving in is already positive. This experience is further enhanced when you bite into the delish, fresh and mouth watering slices of heaven.
The cooked food also covers a wide spectrum of sorts. A few I definitely will go for is the soft shell crab, beef gyudon, yaki udon/soba, salmon belly (so damn good) and if you’re a big fan of fish head, the salmon fish head comes in 2 types of seasoning - both are just as delicious. Just typing this out makes my stomach rumble a plea to visit.
Definitely a must visit!!
Nice food and sashimi is fresh.
My missus and I finally ate here, and wow were we impressed! We enjoyed the truffle gyu don, dragon roll, and wasabi shrimp roll - so much so that we ate in silence for some time. Mmmm! Service was top, too. Thanks for a lovely dinner. 🍖🐉🍤
Have been visiting megumi many times before covid and ordered takeaway from them recently.
Their takeaway food quality really comes close to what you get in the restaurant! Really love their king prawn fried rice and their sashimi (really fresh!)
Their rice bowls were also very value for money and loaded with lots of meat.
Definitely worth a visit 👍🏼
Ordered beef teppanyaki, chose medium rare, but the beef was still raw and practically alive. Out of all the beef cubes, only half were edible and the other half were raw all the way. They ended up voiding the order, and I appreciate the service, however the food could have been done better.
On 7 Jun 22, my son-in-law ordered 2 sets of kaisendon, 2 sets of fukai don and a set of prawn tempura. The deliveryman came around 7.20pm and handed over only one box of the tempura!!
When we asked him what happened to the 4 sets of dons, he claimed he was only handed the box of tempura.
Our eagerness to enjoy a nice meal was destroyed !!
We had high expectations of Megumi as we had regularly dined at its Sunset Way outlet which was unfortunately closed.
Now we have had to endure hunger pangs and wait for another hour for the our dinner to come.
Megumi 😣👎👎👎

I had the kaisen don takeaway. Paid $20.12 and I found it so-so only for the price. The sashimi serving portions are ok but they are of the lower grade fish. It's not bad but it's not great. I may try different dishes if I do return (without my dog). It's a disappointment that pets are not allowed at the outdoor seating, not even when they are leashed on the floor.
THICK SASHIMI, generous portion, delicious rice, great service, affordable prices. What's not to like? They also have lunch sets that are pretty worth it around $20. Will be back!
Service very attentive, all the dishes had great flavour and quality ingredients. Clearly there was care put into the whole meal. First time here but definitely will be back, a great addition to Joo Chiat. Impressed.
Highly recommend the butter fish sashimi and the foie gras teriyaki. Both are outstanding and reasonably priced.
Sashimi slices are very thick, and fresh. The hand rolls are generous in portion as well.
Service is prompt and polite.
Parking available right outside the shophouse if you will be a patron. Remember to register your car plate number with the shop waiters if you do park to prevent getting clamped for parking on private property.
Food is great! High quality fish and karaage/tempura. Do ask for their special menu items, sometimes they are on discount and do not reflect the same price as when you order through the iPad interface. Check out the bento section. I think bento items have the greatest value here:)
Burpple beyond 1for1 applies for dons and ramen. Sign up for J passport for 20% off bill (instructions can be found in store at cashier).
Nice and cozy place with very good jap food. Staff were very friendly too. Every thing is good especially their sashimi and fresh fish from japan. The only setback is very limited car park lots. Else it’s really top form!
The service staff were very polite and helpful. The price point was a little on the expensive side but the food quality made it worthwhile.
Downside was due to the location (lack of parking spaces) and the service staff were a little less attentive closer to closing time.
All in all, a good experience.
Affordable lunch sets with generous portions! Quality is great!
Friendly bosses , food is good for the price they charge .
Fresh fish, good service, clean restaurant. Really good lunch specials available dining in only. They have grilled hamachi on occasion, super fresh and limited in supply.
Nice quiet place to dine. Hotate and sashimi is ok. Surprise no highball served here. Price abit steep when compare to other established Japanese restaurants.
Nice and polite boss with nice Japanese food!
Nice food. But a bit pricey. But I came at 9pm with 50% discount using Eatigo. Hence, def worth the price. Will def come if I can get 50% off again
Great food. The Salmon mentai aburi is a must! Friendly staff. Look out for the ever warm & welcoming Peter!
Great Japanese food in the east. Had the truffle gyu ishi nabe - beef rice with truffle in hot stone pot. Taste is good and not overpowering.
This place is as "hole-in-the-wall" Japanese as it gets. Cosy, quiet, with the freshest ingredients from Japan. Their 15th anniversary bento is really worth the money. Been going to Megumi for years.
i really like the food there. staff service is super. it deserves a five stars.
best service and nice food
Ichiba 👍👍👍
The miso ramen and curry rice was my sons favourite. 5 stars!
The food was very good and also the salmon was very fresh. The prices was also quite worth it. I recommend to come and try it.
Good service and Great food. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Ramens are awesome!
If I were to choose my last meal before a death sentence, this will be the restaurant. The food is phenomenal, definitely worth trying!
Peter's service is exceptional - thank you for your warmth. Nice spot to dine at :)
Great ambience and food. Boss and service staff very attentive and helpful!
Great fresh food! A little on the pricier side, but quality is great.
The sashimi quality is superb. Very fresh.
Food was subpar for the price we were charged. Service was okay. Nothing disastrous in general
Went for lunch set meal. Environment is cosy and the dishes taste fresh.
Quality Japanese food but comes at a price. Worth a try!
Very good service. The personnel very warm and friendly. Food quality is good.
good value and good quality, especially sashimi
had salmon sashimi, it was thick and fresh!

Good service and excellent service. Not cheap, but quality can't be faulted
