Reviews of MongKok Dim Sum
beef hor fun is good, wokhei taste is strong. The spinach/prawn dumpling is not so good, it’s alright. The beehoon is missing a bit of flavour.
Beef fried rice and beef hor fun, any dish with beef is must try. Their beef is so tender, soft and delicious.
The "Geylang Black Bean Beef Hor Fun" used to be very good. Sadly, the taste has changed, the price increased and portion shrunk. The gravy was thin and watery and chilli was added to it by default. The Xin Zhou Bee Hoon was ok, quite bland. The siew mai was good.
It's a shame that their standards have dropped.
the beef hordan standard still there after so long. First few bites can taste the wokhey, the slightly spicy and black bean sauce compliments the beef well. the beef slices were super tender, almost like venison. what gets the forth star is the siu mai. personally i liked that the meat of siu mai is not those heavily minced kind. this one still got some texture, prawn is also fresh. Best is wait until not so hot then pop the whole thing in the mouth and bite.
Recommended to order their Beef Hor Fun which was really good. Extremely generous with the ingredients, the hor fun was covered with sweet and savoury black bean sauce, and with lots of tendery beef within.
Another dish you must order is their Pork Belly Rice, which was one of their top seller here too. The moment you unwrap the lotus leaves, you can smell the aroma of the glutinous rice immediately. The pork belly fats were absorbed by the rice, making the glutinous rice was juicer. Extremely tasty.
Tried their chicken skin, fried to crispy golden brown, they were crunchy and very addictive. It's a perfect dish to go with the beef hor fun.
Mong Kok Dim Sum (Cheong Chin Nam Rd) (Hrs: daily, about 1130 am to mid-night; sometimes closed on Thursday?) Always happy to have weekend tea here, after our hike at Bkt Timah NR. Dishes are generally not oily, not salty, service staff are polite, fast n swift in fulfilling your order. Reliable n consistent in food quality n services. Cozy place makes u feel at home.
Simple no frills dim sum zhi char restaurant. Sunday lunch time was about 50% occupancy. staff were short handed. Tables left uncleaned and wait for food was very long. Have to wait for table standing outside as they haven't cleared. Go only if you have time to wait and not in a hurry.
Food nothing to shout about. Typical zhi char normal hawker stall type of dim sum.
Im a fan of their dim sum and visit their Geylang outlet previously (their hargao is dope.prawn filled!). Tried their tze char at this Cheong Chin Nam outlet. The prawn paste chicken skin is dope AF. The stir fried beef horfun is delicious too. Generous portions of beef. Horfun was silky smooth. The fried rice was alright.
Delicious hk style dishes for family to enjoy. A must come if you are a dim sum fan - they serve this even during dinnertime.
Another nice saver when one craves for dim sum in the middle of the night! Opens till late, this eatery serves a good variety of decent dim sum and at good value. The ingredients tasted fresh even though it doesn't seems to be fresh made on the spot, plus each dumpling size a literally double that of other famous dim sum places and portions is larger as you get 4 instead of 3 dumpling. What I really like is that they still serve shark fins dumpling soup on the menu. Pretty good deal at $5 a pop. This can be quite controversial given the prevailing vocal anti sharks fin advocacy out there, but I'd say it's more of a personal choice. Don't like it, just ignore it...
Mongkok is more than just a simple dim sum joint. Frankly it won't be able to survive if it serves just that. Mongkok is actually a branch of the famous Geylang Lor 9 fried beef kway tiao place, so it is also a zhi char that cooks up a variety of local zhi char dishes. Try the porridges on offer, they are good.
Dim sum and selected zichar style dishes available at this place...with prices listed as per on menu, no additional service charge or govt taxes
Nothing to shout about for the prawn and mango in beancurd fritters, chilli crab sauce and mantou or the custard bun aka liusha bao..
Braised chixken feet was a tad bitter...not sure from being soaked too long in the black bean sauce
Spinach dumplings and prawn dumplings does nor seem to have freshly prepared prawn fillings
Claypot served porridge of lean meat with century egg was quite a good comfort dish. Frogleg option was not as good when compared to the geylang places which serve fresh froglegs
For the good stuff...
Fried carrot cake had a nice savoury taste with hint of mishroom and dried prawn taste...a dish to re-order.
The geylang style beef hor fun is not bad, and does have its returning customers...as seen from 3 cars collecting their beef hor fun takeaways while doing a drive up in the 30mins I was there. This dish...I will return to try
Out of the four dishes we have ordered, Spicy Beef Hor Fun and Pork Ribs stands out most! Recommended to try these two dishes.
Spicy Beef Hor Fun, the signature dish was indeed a delicious plate of Hor Fun. Smokey Wok Hey and savory black bean meaty fragrance in the sauce. The thickness of the beef slices are generously portioned.
Pork Ribs, unlike the typical Zi Char marmite mixed pork ribs, they have coated with their own mix of herbs and spices. The additional flavour from the mix was delicious and unique.
Food's good! Place has a 茶餐廳 Hong Kong street restaurant atmosphere. Just don't expect too much service. All extra plates, spoons, chopsticks are on the table. So help yourself! I didn't like the beef in the hor fun. Too much tenderizer.
Was attracted by the good review but was alao3 concerned abt service and cleanliness after reading 2 really poor eviews. Turned out the waiting staffs were ok. Typical Chinese staff i would say. But they were joking with us when we joke with them. They readily allowed us to change seats after we ordered too. A very pleasant meal. Har gao was indeed fresh and big and the hor fun is decent too.
Has been a while last tried hor fun with good "wok hei"! Beef & seafood hor fun were great! Not many varieties on dim sum but taste good with reasonable price. Worth for revisiting.
The beef hor fun is good. The wok hei adds to the overall flavour of the dish. The spicy version tastes better than the non-spicy one. They serve tim sum as well. I believe they have another outlet at geylang.
Always visit here for Lunch either Supper cuz they open till 12am!! Food is good Chinese style dimsum and wokhey items available.. Beef horfun is a must every visit 😍
Tasty, affordable dim sum. Fast service. No GST or service charge.
Unassuming dim sum place. Walked past here countless times and decided to try it.
Honestly one of the best mid range dim sum place in Sg. Better than Swee choon in my opinion.
Some notable mentions are:
Chilli crab with mantou. When it came, it didn’t look appetising and we were kinda disappointed but it was surprisingly tasty with real crab meat!
The beef horfun was full of wok hei flavour and a solid 5/5.
The crystal chives dumpling was in my opinion one of the best i’ve eaten (it’s like an upgraded hargao).
The Glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf is also a must try. Flavourful and tastes freshly made.
Carrot cake was also good.
Very surprised by this find. Came ytd and back here again today. i foresee myself coming back here again and again!! hahahahaha
Dim sum is very good in general with exception of the Fan Choy. Beef hor fun is highly recommended also.
Pricing wise I think it’s a bit pricey especially with the drinks. Will come again.
Surprisingly decent dimsum with nothing to complain for. Dishes were served up quickly as well.
Nice supper spot for satisfy late night dim sum cravings!
Decently priced dimsum. Their cooked dishes are also pretty good
Tried the dim sum dishes and taste was so-so, poor service attitude too
Food is good and price is good too. The chef clearly knows what he's doing! The service is prompt and effective. I've had the congee, crispy chicken skin, xiao long bao, salted egg pork ribs, which I recommend are worth ordering!
My first time to this place. The San Lao Hor Fun was delicious.. Not too starchy and the sliced fish pieces were fresh :) The hot milk tea was ok to me. The service was prompt and great :)
Nice place for a late night supper.
Visited here with a couple of friends.
Prices are reasonable and the dim sum tastes great!
Will come back in the future.
Love the beef hor fun which came from the main restaurant at Geylang Lor 9. The other dishes are pretty good too. My favourite dim sum is the shrimp rice roll.
Definately one of the less pricey restaurants selling Dim Sum and some Zhi Char. Will always order their fried rice, in my humble view that it is probably the best that I have tasted in Singapore
Nice beef hor fun!
Average dim sum..too salty for my taste
I have been regularly going there for the geylang beef hor fun, Tim sum carrot cake, pork ribs and fried mango fritters. Yummy and reasonably priced.
Great place for midnight dimsum craving, love their hotplate toufu!!
Food are good. Must try the sweet and sour pork. Very authentic. Kids loved it!! Will return when I can.
Not bad. Definitely try sin chew bee hoon and the dessert soya bean grass jelly with lots of stuff in it.
Courteous service, and food is priced adequately. The fried Carrot cake and liu sha bao is very nice. Will come again.
This is one of the restaurant that you find is still open when you need to grab a late night dinner and you cannot find any food center or restaurant in mall opened at night. The food is average and is not too costly.
Fav place for horfun and other dim sum dishes. Sincere service and friendly aunties. Feels homely and nice.
Food is acceptable. Quick eat place. Service is attentive tho.
The beef hor fun is pretty great for the price. Dimsum also not bad. Can go back again.
Food is mediocre, service is generally bit rude. Could be slow during peak hours, as they get a lot of delivery orders.
As it was CNY period and a sunday, the place was very crowded. Crowd control could have been better. Food was good as usual.
Dim sum food generally tasty, but zichar dishes has got room for improvement
No aircond place. Dim sum chicken leg quite salty. Others are delicious.
All round Delicious food in particular the egg pork ribs and pepper venision but expect dinning price
The beef hor fun was very good. Get the one with a bit of sauce and black beans.
This my third time here, their Dim Sum is really good.
Not too bad, spent an average of $10 per pax for 5 person
Excellent place for meals if not for the heat at outside seatings
Service good, waiting time fair & prices reasonable... & dimsum were great!
