Reviews of Mr Chow's Aviary
They served very interesting and innovative cocktails with good dining atmosphere. Highly recommended the Chrysanthemum Secret.
The snacks are good (Mala Chicken Popcorn, Fries with Crab Dip) complements to the cocktails too.
However due to understaffed, there is a long wait trying to get the staff attention for ordering, and another long wait for the food to arrive.
Went there on a Friday night…. Food is good in my opinion… menu is not extensive. But it is good enough for someone like me… drinks are interesting - good mix of cocktails and beers…. Like their asian twist of things…. Overall, it is a nice place to chill but a tad pricy… could be better if i got indoor (booked late so no fault of anyone but myself), outdoor (only 2 tables) is not the best
Staff service is good likely due to us being seated right in front of the bartender at the counter. Staff kept asking us how the drinks are etc etc. Bao is tasty when it is piping hot, but otherwise it is quite normal. The bartender seem quite detailed in preparing the cocktails, but the drinks were on the ex side. Place was blasting Chinese music which was good.
Interesting oriental-themed bar located at Duxton Hill. The place was pretty empty on a Thursday night.
Love the crispy zai er and their signature cocktail - Chrysanthemum’s Secret (my personal favourite out of all the cocktails we tried). The drink was light, refreshing and came with a pretty Chrysanthemum jelly.
We were all fascinated by the interesting drinkware which they used to serve their zodiac cocktail series especially the cups for tiger and monkey cocktail. For the zodiac series, I would recommend the horse cocktail which was milky and smoky, one of their most popular drink too.
Came here for dinner recently with some colleagues. It’s a small place with an interesting decor. They have a creative range of cocktails and food. I’d say it’s definitely on the pricier side but the taste and presentation are nice. The bao are quite large.
Beautiful interior design but let down by the quality of food and drinks.
Fancy names in the menu creating high expectations, unfortunately taste fell short.
The skewers and soft shell crab was served less than warm even though there were only 2 tables dining at the point in time.
Cocktail seems fancy yet felt lightweight, didn't pack a punch like a proper cocktail would.
Sauce for the bao and Eastern fries was the only saving grace.
Likely won't revisit as the value didn't justify itself.
Chinese cuisine combines bar ambience.
To be honest, Chrysanthemum cocktails are costly.
(Chrysanthemum alcohol with flower shape agar-agar only, a bit sweet)
Great vibe and nice hang out place with friends. Nice scallop "Bao".
This place has really nice food/snacks!! Great bar and exotic drinks made by the bartender. If you guys are deciding what to order, can check out my photos below for reference!
1.Harchiong gai(prawn paste chicken)
2Ngiog hiah with IBERICO stuffed Taupok
3. Their famous signature cocktail with agar flower inside, very unique way of presentation!!! It’s chrysanthemum with gin and some infused berries!!
4. Smoked Duck with Foie Gras terrain!
5. Maotai Marinated chicken with minced black fungus and goji berries. Its drunken chicken but better.
6.Rabbit Cocktail-unique creamy taste !
7. MY FAVOURITE. Bbqed OCTOPUS .
Came here last night for drinks and bites and it was a wonderful experience. Really enjoyed the Chrysanthemum cocktail and Lychee Boy. Both were refreshing!
Only got a chance to try their chicken bao and that was nice too. Loved their lamb and mushroom skewers!
And thank you Dee for taking care of us and ensuring we had a good time!
Instagrammable decor (just the bar counter). Alcohol wise, there's alot of effort in bringing in more unique alcohol such as chrysanthemum or osmanthus infused gin but when mixed with other ingredients, the flavours disappear.
Famed for their Chrysanthenum's Secret, the alcohol taste was alright but the whole drink doesn't seem very well integrated. The chrysanthemum jelly itself has an agar agar texture but the taste was so mild... It's almost bland.
We much prefer the other drink which contains Lychee and Rose. It was more balanced and with a sweeter profile.
Skewers wise, the mantou is really pretty and well cooked. Mushroom is okay. The meats are ok... But its not something I will order again.
The bao looks pretty. Personally, the sauce was overpowering
Scallops are fresh but the seasoning is a tad too salty.
Loved the ambience, and it was fun to have the 90s Chinese songs to sing along to. We were pretty pumped up given the good reviews + I love Chinese fusion so we were really looking forward to the drinks.
We ordered 7 drinks in total - none stood out in terms of taste but some were more fancy-looking than the others.
Some mentions:
Oriental fries - on the menu they said they used oriental cheese...I don't know what that means but it didn't taste 'oriental'. What's an oriental taste anyway...? In any case after eating this I would say I prefer the 'non-oriental cheese'. The fries were okay though a tad salty if you'd like some food with the drinks - $12 is pretty reasonable.
Taiwanese cocktail sausage - they tried to make it a little bit different by adding some spices but I would say it's nicer right out the packet. You can dust the powder/spice off before eating it. $9 for three skewers.
The Qin emperor drink tasted horrible - it would be better if you'd buy the $3 bitter drink from a herbal shop nearby. And to add insult to injury, when the bill came we saw that it was $36(!!!) for that drink (yeh yeh we should've checked). Ridiculously pricy! So that left ANOTHER bitter taste in our mouths. Order this only if you want a prop to pretend to be a Chinese emperor.
Will we be back? Maybe if we feel like singing out loud and have some extra monies to throw away!
Went to Ju Hua Tai for some drinks. Service was swift. It was not a completely full room but it was close.
Drinks do take a bit of time here to get to you so expect a small wait like 10minutes.
All the food serviced was on point with the theme and flavourful. The mushrooms in particular were very food.
The drinks are IG worthy but flavour wise, they are a bit up and down. Some are good and some a bit unbalanced.
All in all, a reasonable place for a drinking sessions and a night out.
Great do or and interesting Chinese inspired cocktails. The food was ok. Great line up of beers on tap, but pricey (around $20/pint unless happy hours)
bartender was so enthusiastic and helpful with explaining the interesting cocktails and mocktails. Very vibey place with yummy food, worth a visit! 👍
Fun place for drinks, though they tend to be in the sweeter side. Very Instagram friendly place. Food was ok. I liked the crispy tofu skin thingys, the fried pork, but the baos were a little oily.
Mr Chow Aviary is a top-notch spot for food and drinks. The food is fantastic, with creative dishes that leave a lasting impression. The atmosphere is inviting, perfect for a casual hangout or a special celebration. Plus, the drinks are expertly crafted, offering a wide variety to choose from. Overall it was a great experience with delicious food, welcoming vibe, and great drinks.
Highly recommend!
The Chrysanthemum's Secret was nice. Other drinks I tried including the Nimbus and Lychee boy tasted nice but I felt was very stingy with alcohol.
Interesting flavours for cocktails, but too expensive for a few really weak drinks costing more than $120 (except the Chrysanthemum).
Service wise, I didn't like that even though we had reservations, we were made to wait for "turnover". Making things worse, at least a couple of walk-in customers were served before us.. presumably because they crowded near the door (we stood further back, because covid). Had to join stand right next to the door to "remind" the staff that they had to seat us. Staff were courteous and quite attentivenafter being seated.
Love the cocktails and the presentation!
Food and drinks were served FRESH.
Drinks were decent, although on the pricier side. We got the Chrysanthemum’s Secret (photo), Punch Bowl and Love & Hate. We personally enjoyed the first two the most.
The ambience was great - albeit the music was slightly too loud for my liking.
Service was normal, nothing out of the ordinary.
Such a nice bar for cocktails and chill with friends! Ambience and Mandopop playlist are pretty good. I came here to try this signature Chrysanthemum's Secret cocktails with Gin base. I like the taste! quite strong of Chrysanthemum. It would be better if the Chrysanthemum jelly presentation can be placed just nice in the centre. (OCD)
My friends didn't like the beers, but I love this signature chrysanthemum cocktail. Sweet, floral and chewy, with a slight kick. The place plays Jay on repeat.
This is a pretty new cocktail bar on Duxton Hill with cocktails inspired by East Asian ingredients like chrysanthemum, osmanthus, hawthorn and the like. We tried their signature Chrysanthemum's Secret which was quite sweet and floral, and a rather large chrysanthemum ?jello flower which took up quite a bit of volume in an already small-ish cocktail glass/Chinese tea cup. I preferred the Osmanthus cocktail, which I thought was more balanced in terms of sweetness and acidity. Foodwise we had the soft shell crab bao, which was pretty average. The experience was somewhat marred by us getting chased out of our table after 90 min, apparently a Chope reservation restriction which was not reflected in the reservation booking, and not the most attentive staff. Overall I liked the concept, but execution and service has room for improvement.
Great Sunday night chill out. The bar manager Dee was ready to give recommendations on drinks and food to suit your chillout mood. The music was totally to our taste as well. Thanks Dee for the great night.
Great vibes, greater selection of craft beers (canned or on tap) and two extremely entertaining and suave young men behind the bar (BK and Dee). Be it on a date or a night out with the boys/with the gals, this new kid on the Duxton block is definitely worth the trip. No, I was not paid for this review! Only regret is not having tried the food yet but I'll be back for more.
😋🍸 Great Food + Drinks!🍸 😋
Get the Bao Platter of 6 to indulge between you and your other 4 💉vaccinated friends! For those who seek the thrill of spice 🌶️ 💃 dancing on your tongue, dried chili flakes can be found most of the appetizer dishes that we ordered.
Also, look out for their recommendations 👍 listed in the menu, you wont regret it. ;) ✨
Went at a very busy time and it was a 1man show so i understand service was slow. Drinks were okay but food was splendid! Would come back again but the prices rly hurt the wallet 😪
Went there for post-dinner drinks. Average drinks, good service. We got the Crysanthemum Secret and Osmanthus Concubine. Both were tasty, but pricey for their quantity.
Bartender / service is so kind and nice ! Wonderful cocktail
Celebrate partner's birthday with a group of friends at this place. Ambience and Vibes on point. Their Zodiac Cocktails are interesting twist to usual cocktails. Must try Pig, Monkey and Horse. And also their signature crysanthemum lager is damn refreshing. Will come back!
Their crispy pork and puffed pork skin are surprisingly good. Goes very well with their craft beer. Definitely will visit again.
Really unique place with fantastic food and drinks. Signature cocktail was really extraordinary. Have a wide array of craft beers. Interesting place, great ambience. Fried pork belly goes really well with drinks. Do check it out for yourself! Two thumbs up!
Pleasantly surprised by the quality of food, cocktails and craft beers. A rare gem to have a balance of all. The store front is also elegantly designed with an attractive neon light that is hard to miss. Have to come down and try it on your own!
Interesting drinks with an Asian twist, though on the pricey side. Small place but has friendly staff and nice ambience.
Had a pleasant experience :) Staff was very accommodating and friendly, even took the time out to explain the food and drinks to us! I highly recommend trying their cocktail that had the chrysanthemum jelly...so yummy
Cool interior design and concept. Staff were polite and attentive. I loved the Chrysanthemum cocktail that was served in such a pretty tea cup and was so easy to drink. The meat and non-meat skewers , and the crispy chicken bao tasted amazing. I would definitely return for another meal at Ju Hua Tai.
Very good atmosphere. Food is definitely unique and not what I've seen in most bars. Their cocktails are also different from other places I have been to. Do check them out.
The selection of craft beers is simply mind blowing. You got to try them all and can sample if you look for the boss BaiLin (Only him) 🤣. Can't wait for their next batch of beers coming in.
Do check out there yummy green chillies paste with the fried pork - Chinese version of guacamole. This is a must try for me.
Nice ambience & food. Certain items can be quite pricey
The ambience of the place coupled with friendly staff is great! The food and drinks are unique and fantastic. My favourite is the soft shell crab bao and their craft beers 🙂
Really spoilt for choice and amazing ambience! Got the white peach oolong IPA and chrysanthemum cocktail for the cute jelly flower. The pork xiao su rou and mantou skewers are super unique and tasty 😋 will definitely be back for more!
Great beer selections, awesome cocktails, especially the signature Chrysanthemum secret!! Friendly staff and super yummy food too. Ambiance is fantastic!
Interesting place with nice cocktails 🍹 love the presentation of all the drinks (and they taste as good as they look). Went there for a private birthday party, service + food were all good. 💯
Great experience. Didn't thought much of craft bear but wow they have a wide varieties of beer to suit your taste. Good food as well. Try the "kong ba pau". Will go again definitely.
Bentos and pork belly bao is super good. Cocktails are great, they have a unique beer choices. Love the crispy zai er!
Food was ok. Service was weird… they’ll serve food and drinks without saying what it is. For a cocktail bar, you’d expect that they’ll explain what the drink is instead of placing it in the middle of the table with no indication of whose drink it is.
Absolutely amazing Moutai cocktail by mixologist Dee. Keep up the good work
Nice drinks and Great food…
Food is alright but the beer is better.
Friendly staff, nice ambience. Personally recommend the crispy chicken bao, very juicy and the sauce is super good. Would recommend the xiao su rou as well, beer with fried food wouldn’t go wrong.
Great place to chill and relax! Awesome atmosphere and vibe. Service staff was friendly and courteous. Love their interesting cocktails!! SHIOK!
Intresting 12 zodiac cocktail menu but they are pretty overpriced. They are not top bar/hotel quality.
Delicious cocktails! Must try chrysanthemum and emperor qingshi cocktails for ancient china vibes. Best paired with their baos!
Nice feel bar with nice lighting. The baos are nice especially soft shell crab bao. Chrysanthemum's Secret is a must try!
delicious deep fried pork belly mantou which everyone needs to check it out!
Nice cocktail bar with unique cocktails and bun speciality. Service was great too.
Hospitable staff! Great ambience with nice choice of songs ~ thank you unique and spicy shot!
Had a wonderful experience here! Staff was extremely friendly and drinks were concoction exceptionally well!
They seem to be short staffed, but I always love the drinks here as they stick to a theme 👍
Cosy ambience and accessible location. great place to chill and relax. food and drinks are reasonably priced as well!
Several items that we wanted to try were not available. It was the same item that was not available when we came here 2 weeks ago.
Chinese fusion food / snacks. Cocktail pretty mediocre. Not too good value for money.
Great food and drinks! Bartender was really nice too
10/10 environment and presentation. Good vibes and interesting concept!
Power crispy pork is a must-have!
Great place, would recommend.
Wa surprisingly good
Great cocktail place with an oriental mix. Gonna come back next time to try their food.
