Reviews of NO.5 Bukit Timah Live Bull Frog Claypot Porridge
The service is no good. The staff asked my friend and i go level 2 but another staffat level told me all full asked us wait at level one again. Luckily after that found a table at level one for us if not we will definitely go for other restaurant.
The porridge is just so so, One frog porridge is $8,price still reasonable. Nothing can impress me there.
This is the only restaurant selling Frog Claypot porridge in the western part of Singapore. Hence when we've cravings, we'll be here. At about $30 per pax, this restaurant is considered moderately expensive but the food tastes good. Service is fast and food is served promptly. By default, they do charge 80 cents for a disposable wet towel per person. So if you didn't use it, return it to the cashier during check-out and they'll remove the charge from your bill. There is available seating downstairs but upstairs can sit larger groups. There is only one toilet and it seems to be always wet from the washing; not dirty but feels yucky. For this latest visit, the flush is not even operational!
My wife and son's favourite supper place. Their frog porridge may not be the best, but it's definitely the best we can find near our place.
The porridge is smooth and thick. The spicy (宫保) claypot frogs are flavourful and tender, definitely better than the non-spicy (姜葱) version. If u don't like it too spicy, u can ask them to make it less spicy.
Only thing is that the service here is a bit "coarse".
Quite literally a “hole in the wall” kind of joint with delicious food, brisk service and boisterous patrons. Quite the atmosphere to indulge in frog porridge cooked in various styles with lots of side dishes to choose from. Also a range of drinks and choice of outdoor-indoor seating. Expect to be served quick and to eat just as quick.
My favourite place for frog leg porridge! They used to have the combo of (4+3+free pot of porridge) but now they no longer give the free pot of porridge. I always have a combination of spicy and non spicy frog legs. They are all equally delicious! Their sambal kang kong is really good as well! The sambal squid was unimpressive though.
Very yummy we ordered 2 pots of porridge. 2 sets of the 3+2 frog legs. Ginger and Gong Bao flavour. Also a plate of stir-fry french bean with dried shrimp. All was delicious!!
Expect to spend about $90 for a family of 5.
Love the frog porridge from this place! 10/10 would come back here to satisfy cravings. The Kung Pao version is relatively spicy, so I personally prefer the ginger option.
Kudos to G7 for taking up my comments on the service part. Has really improve much since the last comment that I wrote. Food is great. Being a fan of their frog porridge for more than 5 years.
Fantastic. Rich sauce that goes down well with the porridge. Love the oyster omelette. 1st floor has limited sitting and is non aircon. Go second floor with more seats and cooler aircon environment. Will come again for other stuffs on the menu.
The ginger onion frog legs x 3 in claypot dish was excellent. Love the sauce which went well with the claypot porridge. Speaking of which, since it was just me and the kiddo, I ordered 2 porridge which turned out to be too much. We didn't know its portion was so big and the server didn't bother to check back with us. It's a simple eatery with no aircon on the ground floor. I think it was worth the try and would come back again.
Great place at the west to have frog porridge ! Probably not the best but definitely not the worst ! Worth a try if you are near bukit timah area ! 😀
Throughly enjoyed our dinner there! Was craving for padtai and it was so good 🥵 but portion is a little small… the frog leg claypot is good 👍🏻
Will come back again!
The homemade tofu is really good. Loads of dishes for people who don't take frog. Service is fast. Very cramp seating. Better upstairs
Went to the branch at Bukit Timah after recommendation from friends.
Dry Chili version was good, especially the small red chili they used, quite spicy and if you can ask them to add more chili to it. We quite like it.
Ginger Spring onion version was below expectation, it was so so only, nothing special. Does not have the same taste as their shop in Geylang.
Sweet potatoes leaves was normal, nothing special or to brag about.
Porridge could be better. It was too starchy, if it was watery more, it would be perfect.
Fantastic bull frog! Meats are tender with lovely shallot and ginger sauce. Deep fried prawn balls are delicious too.
Very good frog dish
A little bit overpriced (1 big frog cost 8 sgd) suggest to come with more people as the price might be better for more people) but the seat is quite limited though
Very good location (near to MRT station)
Opens till late at night which is good for late night snack ☺️
If you're looking for one of the better claypot frog porridge in Singapore you definitely cannot miss this. Although it's not the main branch, the quality of food served is not compromised and is still very much enjoyable! Would highly recommend this place to any lovers of claypot frog porridge! Pretty affordable too!
Interesting food. Frog legs are commonly cooked at home and in restaurants, but this is the first time I see a restaurant named after it and offering it as the main dish. It's quite tasty. The pig stomach soup was also delicious. The total bill turned out to be reasonable.
Enjoyed the "gong-bao" frog porridge and the thai-style fried frog legs. Nice treat to have once a while. No air-con on 1F.
Open till late. Porridge and gong bao (spicy frog) is nice.
Prawn paste chicken is acceptable. Do not recommend to order all other dishes
The good taste frog porridge
But server can’t speak English but they try to help and keep nice
Frogs..if it's live, it can't go wrong..nice👍 Buy 3, free 2=$27
Tasty frog porridge. There's many other choice of dishes available for those that don't eat frogs. It's crowded late in the night, they close for business at 3am.
Great place for supper or late dinner with a few friends or family members. Only had their frog porridge and fried kailan there before but both tasted great.
My go to place for frog legs porridge. Friends from oversea like this too. Its just simple and comfort food.
Went with friends for dinner, was rather crowded. Service crew was hospitable, orders were served in reasonable timing considering the crowd. The bullfrog meat was superb, served in both spicy and non-spicy version. Had ordered the buy 4 get 3 free set mea, along with other side dishes and porridge. Overall it was worth the price, will visit again.
We ordered the plain white porridge, ginger onion frogs legs, chives qing long veggie, deep fried frogs legs, sambal la la. Food was delectable. Drinks (sour plum) were nice. Ambient was good, not too noisy. Service was quick and the staff were polite. Will re-visit.
Great for a cold night, comfort food and reasonable price. Good for sharing w friends or family using their set.
The service fast and the frog porridge also nice with the veggie
1. Loved the place. Surprisingly, my wife enjoyed it as much as I did. Planning to bring my future visiting/ tourist friends and guests to this place rather than for chili crabs. Food is quick and tasty.
2. Owner is very friendly. Sitting was a bit of hassle as there weren’t many tables for 4 or above.
Had dropped by couple of times already,
It is a great place for supper.
Frog legs are succulent and delicious.
The prices of frog legs are cheaper if you are ordering more, thus it will be better if you are going in groups.
Always feeling weird eating frogs, but still it's worth 4 stars
Everything was great (chilli frog, porridge, cai pu egg, and chives+mushroom) except for the waitress that served us where we were seated in the second floor. She was giving us the hard sell and trying to pressure us into buying more food than we wanted. Had a lot of going back and forth before she finally relented and allowed us to order the amount we wanted.
Nice. Good porridge. Good amount of frogs.
Ordered few pots of frog legs.
Sauce was still not bad but not all of the frog legs were tender this time - some seemed tough.
Not sure of the reason/s but was disappointed.
Love the frog leg (spicy) and porridge. Prefer to dine in. Always order and came here many times. Service is so so.
Food tastes great especially in cold weather. Visited a few times, the food standard didn't drop. Will revisit again.
Comforting frog porridge. Price is reasonable. Good selection of other dishes incase there are non-frog eaters within your group!
Sik stuff lor. Didn't expect the price to be quite ok also. Got stunned when I saw the menu. A good kinda stun cos of the more affordable price. Can defo go try if you're in the area
Very good! Worth it! Just buy frog n porridge. 3ppl share 4+3 frogs, more than enuf. Then 1 porridge. Settle
Best frog porridge over. Price affordable, they have sharing menu too. Staffs able to speak both chinesse and english.
Porridge taste good ! Frog served fresh ! Can order their side dish too . Not bad !
Tried it for the first time. Different from other stalls..
Was great! Just nice the taste. Will come back 100%.
Frog was good. But star of the show is the oyster omelette. Strongly recommend
The frog leg porridge here is super good. Be sure to get the spicy flavoured one!
We always order 3 plus 2 but from the bones, the quantity seems lesser, maybe the frogs are smaller now.
Very nice frog porridge.. But those China service staff have big attitude problem
Nice food. Taste good. Room for improvement in terms of service.
Love the porridge consistency and the spicy frog leg hits the sweet spot
Rude female staff, gave us attitude cos we didnt order a lot 🙄 but other staffs attitude were okay hence the 3 stars
Kung Pao 🐸 with porridge. Nice!!!
A good place for frog leg porridge
Best food and drinks !! Value for money too!!
Yummy claypot porridge , enjoyed it!
nice food
Nice frog leg porridge
Yummy frog porridge!
After visiting Bukit Timah Summit, I specially went to eat frog porridge.
Needless to say, the frog is tender, the porridge is thick and filling, and the shredded ginger in it is refreshing and refreshing, which is good.
The service needs to be improved, soy sauce was not given and had to be asked before it was given.
Every street is full of food
Good place for late night snack
I like to eat here.
